How often do you take your pet to the veterinarian?

Can you please give me advice on how often a small or large dog would need to visit the veterinarian? I'm new to pet care and would like some basic pointers on health care for a dog.

A dog will need an initial check up when you get them, such as to ensure proper vaccinations and deworming. Also, you can take your pet to the vet at least once a year or as often as needed when ailing. You will want to ensure your animal does not have heartworm or anything like that as it can lead to a sad end.

For an initial checkup, anytime something is wrong, and then once a year for shots.

A dog should visit the vet when things go wrong with him or her and the usual routine checks.

I normally take my pet dog Billy to the vet twice in a year, that is every six months for proper check up. The reason I choose to go twice a year is because it's much better and less expensive preventing him from getting ill than actually treating him when he is sick.

I had one peculiar experience one time when I almost lost one his legs because of joint problem. Billy is a strong dog, he had joint problem but practically walked as if nothing was wrong with him until the day we went for an evening run. I noticed he wasn't pacey as before and he limps a bit, that was when I knew something was wrong.

I had to rush him to the vet immediately and after checking him out, I was told that had I not brought him in now for treatment that in 2 months time, he wouldn't be able to walk with the leg again. So ever since that day, I have made it a routine habit of going for check up every six months.

I take my dog or my cat to a vet only when I see they are sick or something is wrong with them (are not eating not playing or sit in a corner). If my pets are all right there is no need to take them to a vet since I take good care of them.
I am taking care of them and give them to eat the best food, vitamins, and they are always washed and I let them out in the yard to play.
