How can you tell when beef has gone bad?

Sometimes beef will go bad, if it's past the expiration date or not properly stored in the freezer. So one thing I look for when preparing beef is that bright red color (this is true for fresh or frozen beef).

And, another thing to check is the smell of the beef. It might smell slightly rancid when cooking if it's gone bad.

Beef can go bad if you leave it out too long to defrost. And, for that reason, you should only defrost in the refrigerator or microwave. And, then cook the meat promptly.

This is actually a perfect way to prevent a meat from going bad. As long as the meat is still frozen up, it's definitely not going to spoil. But the moment the ice starts to defrost, the meat is vulnerable to going bad, rot and ferment.

If the beef is a brown color, but is still raw, then you will want to throw it out as it has started to degrade. This would not be very healthy to consume.

This is absolutely correct, if it goes brown in color, it's shows that it's already on the road to going sour and if you keep it much longer away from ice, the next phase is is rotting and smelling.

Also if it has a smell to it, then toss it immediately.

There is no need for still keeping the beef once it starts smelling. The only reason one may decide to keep the meat is if you have a dog pet that could eat it then it's not entirely a complete waste of meat and money.

I agree that a beef with a smell must be thrown out in the garbage immediately. It may cause you some problems if you still try to cook it. Safety first! How can you tell when beef has gone bad?

Even then, be very careful as beef can go bad if you leave in the fridge too long.

Are you serious @Beverly? Because I have the belief that as long as the beef is well frozen, nothing is going to happen to it or am I actually wrong?

The smell is often a good indicator.

This is absolutely true, with just the repugnant smell of the beef, you would be well aware that it's not good anymore for consumption if you really value your health.

And, that goes for the smell of the raw beef or while it's cooking. I was cooking some beef that smelled OK raw, but during the cooking process it took on a bad odor. So I tossed it out. You can get food poisoning from bad beef, not worth the risk.

This is absolutely true @Beverly, I have had one experience a while back and it wasn't a great feeling at all. It even prompted my despising beef or any form of meat lately. Now, I prefer eating fish over meat, unless it's chicken meat.

one thing I do before putting the beef in the freezer is to cut it into pieces "if it I'm the only one who gonna eat it", this way I don't need to refroze it, and if smell somthing, I'll toss it first, then think after.

I really don't think that cutting the beef meat is actually going to prevent it from spoiling without keeping it frozen at all times. What I believe that the cutting of the beef in small pieces would do for you is in cooking it with ease and defrosting easily.

This can easily be detected just from the foul smell of the beef, it's definitely going to be so disgusting that any part of the room it's taken to would be instantly polluted. Also from the color of the meat, you would discover a slight change like it's browning, that's a very good sign that the meat is going bad.

When beef gets bad the first red flag is the bad smell, it can't smell nice at all.It will be so awful and the red color somehow turn light pink or light brown with some. This is why I don't buy meats in bulk any longer because of the erratic light in my country. It always a waste when the meat goes bad.

First is the smell that you will notice, after that the color of the meat will change, it is indicated as any meat to be stored properly in the fridge.
