Consumers: Ever been a victim of false advertising?

What is false advertising you may ask?

False Advertising

Deceptive advertising, also known as false advertising, refers to a manufacturer's use of confusing, misleading, or blatantly untrue statements when promoting a product. Advertising law will protect consumers from deceptive advertising through the enforcement of specific legislation.

I don't think I have ever fail victim to false advertising other than the "Expectation VS Reality" foods, but it's amazing what some companies would do to sell products.

Some examples of false advertising:

Hope someone reports those food products with fake vitamin claims. Pretty sure that's illegal for a company to do.

Once I heard that skincare companies can put a tiny squirt of Vitamin C into a huge vat of generic facial care product, stir it around and then claim the entire vat is Vitamin C enriched, even if the amount in every container sold is miniscule. For sure, it's deceptive advertising at best, downright fraudulent at worst.

As for the burgers, I have given up on those. A family member bought a bag of burgers the other day and I was supposed to have one. I looked at this poor wilted thing and could only think of the cow it came from and all that grease I'd be putting into my body. Consumers: Ever been a victim of false advertising?

Yes Beverly I've heard about that too. It is sad what people get away with now.

I can't understand why people cant just create a quality product and sell it based on what it really is.

There is so much deception and dishonesty going on these days. I look at the way things were made when I was a girl. The quality of everything was so much more superior, things were made to last.

The tumble dryer my mother bought when I was born (to deal with all those cloth nappies LOL) is still going, she gave it to me a while back. So that machine is 37 years old. I sincerely doubt that the tumble dryers you buy today will last even 10 years.

Things today are not made to last Consumers: Ever been a victim of false advertising?

Also if you look at products that are tested on animals... my sister is an animal rights activist and she said you find all these products that state they are "animal friendly" and this is a lie. It means they won't harm your animal, yet it gives the impression that the product was not tested on animals which is not true.

When it comes to animal testing you must look for products that are endorsed by Beauty Without Cruelty. There are loads of people saying that their products are not tested on animals and THEY don't but the ingredients that they purchase and use have been.

For a product to pass Beauty Without Cruelty all the ingredients must past the test too.

I have been victim of the false advertising. And had some of the bad days during the restaurant and other places. You can see that food and other stuff is often the case. Most likely the biggest issue is with mcdonalds, dominos and KFC. They offer very small quantity for the price charged. So I think those are definitely the case with most of the malls and the food chains. And things like that do happen.

I can tell you that false advertising has it's set of the requirement. Because they want to attract the customers. And for that they make use of whatever it takes to attract the people. That's the problem with the marketing and the advertising.

Unfortunately it happened to me. I was so tempted to buy a TV dinner after watching an ad about it on TV. I was feeling a bit tired on a particular day and decided to buy the TV dinner which was advertised. The packaging looked awesome and I thought that the food would be delicious too but to my dismay it tasted really bad. It was too salty and sour that I couldn't eat it. I learnt a great lesson that day.

It a known fact that most businesses use fake advertisement to lure buyers. They come up with all form o business gimmicks to hoodwink one to buy stuff that one has no business with all to make money for their selfish interest.Sometimes I just buy things believing it will be good with me not necessarily because of the write up on it.After anything can be written, so I don't even bother with the labels

I totally agree, I think having a false advertisements or fake ones are part of business process or gimmicks. I remember watching a burger ad on my T.V. where they did show a burger patty over another layer of patty and another layer again, which gives me the feels to buy that wonderful burger, but when I go there to their food store, I was completely frustrated and totally disappointed. The burger isn't even close enough to burger that they have shown on their T.V. ads.

Well, this happens to me all the time. I see commercials on television and not only and when I but that product I get disappointed because their commercial was not realistic.
They lie to sell their products and we buy because we trust that at least a half from what they say is true, but in some cases, there is nothing true about that item and we end up throwing it away!

False advertising are more likely the true advertising. The only difference is false advertising gives us more promising effects on their product if we buy at least one. But if you will apply it, it is not true. I once a victim of it. I hear these kind of product that can remove my pimples within 3 days. So for the reason that I want to remove my pimples quickly, I buy it. The third day comes and my pimples are gone but it don't take long. My pimples gone worse than before. So I stop using it. Maybe we should be more careful next time.

As a gamer, I'd say that I constantly fall victim to false advertising. So many video game publishers hype up their games using shifty marketing tactics, and then the game ends up being completely different to what was advertised in trailers and promised during interviews. No Man's Sky is a recent example that comes to mind. It was supposed to be one of the most ambitious space adventure games to date. It was supposed to have unlimited possibilities, intricate gameplay, lush, realistic and lively environments. It had none of that.

This video exemplifies that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vupCgB8H9Og

Yes many times. Here in internet a lot of scammers advertise their site a lot that you have been convince to sign up to their site and focus on what they have promise. At the end, if you did what they tell you, for example online job and you will refer your friends to sign up to and you already reach their minimum referrals invited. Nothing happens, I forgot the name of the site.

In the context of reduced consumption, the advertising market has reoriented, access social media platforms. The priorities of those media and communication channels that better build either product knowledge or sales have increased.
