When I was in college for Advertising and Graphic Design, I spent two semesters focusing on logo design in one of my classes. While it is difficult to boil it down to just a couple of sentences, there are some basic strategies to keep in mind when designing logos. The most important one is keeping in mind what message you're trying to convey. The design is going to be determined by what the essence of the company boils down to. Another important tip is to never stop brainstorming. List what the company is about, create dozens of thumbnails and then slowly start combining and eliminating ideas until you've reached the perfect logo.

First of all you need skills with designing software such as photoshop, illustrator etc.
Secondly, you need to understand what the logo is about. The kind of logo you design should reflect the business/website/company that is going to use it.
You also need to think about color. The color you use on the logo should reflect the theme of business/website/company.

For me, when I create my own logo or someones logo the very first thing I do is to look for the design or the shapes that I'm going to use or some examples of image which the person or group prefers. Then I would need a editing software's like Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator or other more. I would prefer using Adobe Illustrator for because it has a more vector image rather than the pixelated image on Photoshop but it really depends on you, in which you're literally comfortable.

In creating a logo you can do in a digitized way.you can use programs such as Adobe illustrator or Inkscape, you can download to use.Both are free.Or better still you use photoshop, draw the basic form, layer up the logo and conclusion through photoshopping but if you aren't getting it right then use a graphic artist.
