Apple slices soaked in pineapple juice

Not sure if I've mentioned this before but a very useful technique for keeping your apple slices from turning brown is to soak them in pineapple juice (such as from canned pineapples).

I came up with this idea when my daughter was two years old and really loved eating apples but would eat so slow that most of the apple slices would brown by the time she was onto the second one. Then she would refuse the apples.

We always had canned pineapples in the house (though never lemon juice, which works the same).

The pineapple juice makes the apple slices SO sweet. So much better than using lemon on the apple slices. If you think apples are sweet, try them this way. The taste is really amazing. Apple slices soaked in pineapple juice

Pineapple juice is very healthy, so long as it doesn't contain high fructose corn syrup as a sweetener.

This would be a good idea, if you are making an apple pie and want your apples to stay fresh as you are placing the pie crust into the dish for baking. Otherwise, the sliced apples will turn brown in the process.

Most certainly this is a unique use for the pineapple juice in the can, as that part of the canned fruit is usually just discarded.

Could you use orange juice for the same purpose? After all, this is a citrus fruit, similar to pineapple juice. I wonder if it would taste as good as what you are describing here.

Orange juice might not be compatible with the apple flavor.

I'd stick with lemon, which is more tart. It's a longtime favorite way to prevent browning of apple slices.

Are you using canned or fresh pineapple juice? I wanted to know as I only have canned pineapple chunks in the house. Will that work too?

You can use any kind of pineapple juice that you want, whether from fresh cut pineapple (juiced) or canned pineapple juice or even the juice from a can of pineapple chunks. If you use a pineapple drink, then just be aware you are also adding any sugars or artificial flavors they have in that drink to your apples. That might affect how the apples taste.

Thank you for sharing, this actually caught my interest since I'm a fan of both fruits, and combining them is a perfect and amazing thing for me. And also, this quite refreshing and probably delicious for me as well, and a new thing for me to do or try. Great share!

This is creativity playing out.I love both fruits and I'm sure it will be a delight combining the two at a go.Apple is one healthy fruit that even the doctors recommend we should always take a daily bite, of course, it will certainly keep the doctor away which leaves us more healthy and pure. Will be trying this out.Is just like I just read about soaking lemon fruit in clear water and drinking it first thing in the morning.it helps boost the entire body system.
