Big Data - A Revolution That Will Transform How We Live, Work and Think

Hi all. I just wanted to talk about a few books that I'm reading at the moment. I didn't buy these books online or at a bookstore, nor did I get them from my library, I have a friend who has many many books of all kinds and they're all pretty quite interesting. After looking through them the other day when I went round his for a while he gave me a few of them to borrow and read.

Here I'll show what they are and talk a little bit about them and why I want to read them!

Big Data - A Revolution That Will Transform How We Live, Work and Think

Big Data - A Revolution That Will Transform How We Live, Work and Think

Data data and lots more data! It seems our generation is infatuated with data. We can't get through a single day anymore without some kind of data either being accessed or stored on us. On everything we do and buy and eat. What we wear and when we sleep. And the government is using this data to try to better understand us and it could either prove to be our doing or our downfall!

Big Data - A Revolution That Will Transform How We Live, Work and Think, tries to explore the impact that data collection will have on our lives, both in business and in your personal social life. Through data collection, it's said, we'll be able to learn how to fight off deadly diseases, predict even fires and when the best time to fly is (statistically). And how we can use Social Media to identify and spot trends. Which is really cool and that is worth reading alone.

But it goes on to say more than this, it goes on to say how there could be a dark side and a downside to all this data harvesting, that by doing so now, we're unconsciously and unwittingly making all this data available for the machines, for AI that will use it, that could use it, against us. How they could use it to punish people for crimes they haven't yet even committed!

Big Data - A Revolution That Will Transform How We Live, Work and Think is a very fascinating and insightful read into our generations lust for big data.

If you haven't read it yet try to!

This is a great book it seems like its to bad i really don't like to sit and read books. Having data is probably the most important thing in anybody life this day and age. Google already has this AI that you talk about, it basically processes information and makes its own decisions. It surfs the web to find the solution to whatever problem its trying to figure out without any human involvement. Pretty scary rite? What if this AI decided to close banks down? Launch missiles from computer controlled army vehicles? Computers are getting smarter and if it continues they will take over the world!

It sounds very interesting. I have to admit that I have heard the term Big Data before but I have never understood what it really meant. I get it that on the internet you can collect lots of data but analyzing all of this must be very hard if not impossible so I'd like to know more about this topic.

This seems to be an interesting book. I work online on many sites and I know that so many information about me is actually stored online. By conducting surveys the government and other institutions do get to learn a lot from us. I am curious about what this book has to say about data. I try to see if I can find it on Amazon.

This one looks like a pretty interesting book, at least for me who's not a data genius, Nowadays, it's all about data, all the information is given, received, collected, and saved in data form. Yes, totally agree that this is an effective way to save time and paper, but looks kind of scary to me, to save it all in a virtual way, without any other kind of backup. And also adding the fact of AI taking control of it, well, for sure they will make our lives easy, but what if they have any malfunction with that open road to all of our data? Thanks for the tip on this book, for sure will try to get it and check it out, looks like a good way to start studying deeper on data.

Totally, never got a real interest of reading about it, until I saw this post and the book. So, as you said, this got my attention, and awakened a need to learn more about it, specially when you don't know big things about data and AI. Let's say I've have a basic notion about it, but obviously, if there is a way to improve my knowledge, for sure I'm in.
