Beats by Dre headphones Audio quality review.

So i wanted to do a review on the beats by Dre headphones. We have so many options when it comes to portable audio that its almost hard to choose. Beats headphones are really popular but are they quality headphones? AKG has been the leader in microphones and headphones for years. So many people are buying into the hype which is why i decided to do this topic. So which is better?


To test this i took 2 pairs of head phones and listen to the same song with each. The beats headphones and i chose the AKG K92 What did i find? I found that the AKG headphones where more clear, and overall better sound quality. The other thing i notices is that the AKG head phones are about half the price of Beats. How could they be better quality and half the price? I looked into the manufacturing of these products and on average beats cost about $12 to manufacture while AKG costs about 18.

Both companies sell many units on a weekly basis. AKG has been in the business for over 50 years. Beats by Dre has only been around for less than 10. I think that Beats headphone are over glorified and over priced. People will buy anything that is popular, but we have to be savy shoppers or else we will get poor quality for high prices.

Well I'm not going to get on you for not having a controlled environment experiment, with the scientific method steps but I totally agree with you. Beats headphones are lousy and the quality is NOT as good as those who wear them say they are. They are most likely brainwashed by the hype. If you haven't noticed a lot of people, especially young adults, or even teens have beats headphones, why? They have beats because beats is advertised everywhere, and it is said that they are the best headphones on the market, but that is absolutely not true. Even some earbuds have a better sound quality than beats, and that has to say something.

Yes, it's very amazing especially when consumers make poor choices, and don't fact check before they buy a product. The beats headphones are advertised everywhere it seems, and in music videos. Celebrities are paid to have beats featured in their music videos, and sometimes the singer will hold the beats, or the beats will be in the "pill" speaker form, ever saw this?

I wanted to dry out beats headphones, and I did. They seemed to fit well, but I didn't understand how the sound quality was better because it just seemed to me like it had the same quality as other headphones, and sometimes poor sound quality.

People will pay for a name brand, especially if it is 'luxury' or very popular. I do not give in to this, and could ultimately care less if I have a 'cheap' brand of something. I refuse to pay for luxury name brands, and won't do it. I will just go with quality that is tested, and if it is cheap oh well! LOL

Even if the quality is good for brand names I don't buy it, simply because you can always find a non-brand name product for exactly the same quality but at a fraction of the price!

Yes! Sometimes you can even get something that is of far superior quality, that is a fraction of the price. The only things I buy that are name brand is:

shoes, because they seem to last longer
body wash, well not sure about name brand but i buy expensive body wash due to me having sensitivities
toothpaste, i use expensive toothpaste because sometimes the cheaper ones have a strong minty taste to them and sometimes it can burn my mouth
clothes, i buy name brand clothes because they seem to last longer, and last even if you wash them too much

Sometimes I will get knock offs, or a clone of a product to test if it keeps up with the namebrand, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't so it seems like a hit or miss in that area. Overall, just buy what you think is quality, and don't give into hypes!!

Yes exactly. I have found certain places where I like to buy my things and I usually stick to them. I have all my brands that I am faithful to and none are name brands, except for perfume! That is my weak spot! I like Guess perfume and Red Door!

I agree with this one, but sometimes it's impossible. I remember buying a headset which has a similar design from Sony which has my favorite black matte color and also the sounds is good and almost identical to the original Sony. The sound and the colors are perfect but what I didn't look for is the overall quality of the product or the whole product, I've been using this for a month and in just a snap the headset's headband broke and I'm so disappointed at that time the I need to buy the original.

Yes i agree with you and i should have used 3 pairs of head phones for this to have a control. I was not thinking that deep into it because i have great listening ears and i could clearly hear the difference. The fact that they are manufactured so cheap says something about them. he marketing is geared towards the youth and they have no idea what quality sound is suppose to sound like. Most of these kids come from rich neighborhoods and they are using mommy and daddy's money to purchase them. I bet if they had to work long hours to buy these headphones they would do more research into them as well. Ear buds are really good from the reviews i have read on the internet. Skull candy is another high quality cheap brand that everyone seems to like. Thanks for sharing i appreciate your feedback.

I agree with you bro. There is a thing called the hype and it is so powerful strategy for sales. This hype for beats is so overrated that sony headphones have more sound quality than this expensive earphones. Maybe because of its advertisements and the fact that it is owned by Dr. Dre that is why its expensive.

I totally agree with you that some people are just totally into over rated, over priced products with brand names. I see so many people that will only buy brand names, it is more about "being seen" and for the prestige supposedly associated with it.

No thanks, not for me. I am a little more boring. I prefer good quality products that offer value for money and I just don't see how even an amazing quality product can validate the prices of brand products.... which quite frankly often just don't live up to their expectations.

I have used this product before. Personally, I find that the product is actually overrated. Too much money spent on marketing and creating the brand but quality-wise, there are plenty of other better headphones which provide value for money.

I have one of this and it is really amazing. Triple AAA sound quality and every one might agree but the price of this headphones are very expensive. Well that's what you get for getting a triple AAA sound quality headphones. I would recommend this to my friends that got cash for it.

However, there are some other brands to look out for and a lot cheaper than Beats. One of the alternatives I've already tried are Philips headphones. These monsters are close to indestructible really. I've bent the headphone completely on the other side but it just bounced back. Best used for outdoor activities. 5 years have passed and mine is still working. If you are a bit tight on budget and still targeting a good quality music. I introduce to you, the Audio Technica headphones. They sound great but they are more prone to damage. Bought one when I was in Highschool because I don't have the money that time and item gave up after a year of daily usage. Not bad for a cheap headphones.

Overall Sound quality of the three I mentioned earlier nothing beats the BEATS by Dr. Dre. Cheers to music lovers out there

There is a year when these headphones is very popular. But I think they should balance the sound of this equipment/gadget. For me it emphasizes the bass range more than anything.

I agree with you. I own a pair of Beats and it's not a big deal. Yeah they are good looking but I think that's pretty much it. I did some kind of a test too with another pair of headphones that I own, Panasonic is the brand, and the sound of these is very clear compared to Beats, even the volume is better. If somebody is looking for opinions on what headphones to buy, don't get Beats, they aren't worth it.

I understand that people would go for the over priced and in trend things since we sometimes think that maybe it's more worth it. That the quality is good that's why it is over priced. And then when bought and tested, reality dawns.
I am glad that you have posted this review for I have been eyeing some headphone products recently and one of them is beats. I'll try to go and check the AKG you have mentioned.

yes i agree with you my friends have a beats headphones and as a musician i think beats have lacking seats of audio components inside it the sounds produce by beats is like hanging on the ear. i compared it to philips headphones and i much more prefer philips than beats.

Because Beats have never been about quality to begin with. Ever since they first came out, most audiophiles agreed that Beats by Dre were all about the looks and not about quality.

The fact is that they're a good looking pair of headphones. They have a sleek, futuristic look to them which makes them easy to accessorize with your clothing. Couple this with the fact that Dr. Dre is an incredibly famous rap/hip-hop producer, you have a good looking set of headphones that people automatically assume also provide great sound quality.

I agree with you @DennisP, some people have actually totally misinterpreted the beats by dre headphones.Lets be honest there is only so much quality you can get from headphones. There is very little diffrence between the brands. Beats is supposed to be cool, hip and trendy. Other headphones look a mess with your outfits. Beats are a total accessory. Its like getting a new handbag or a new pair of shoes. Most people get them because they look good.Anyone talking about quality does not understand marketing at all.

I also like Sony headphones more, they are much cheaper and have better sound quality. It gives me great pleasure when I listen to music with them. As for these expensive headphones, I think they have a strong marketing company, but I have read a lot of bad reviews from customers about them. They say that the sound quality that these headphones provide is not worth this huge amount of money. And I completely agree with them. Actually, I don't like to spend a lot of money on devices, so I bought a copy of wireless AirPods for sports. They have excellent sound quality as far as possible for wireless headphones, a good price and a good battery charge, which is enough for 30 hours of music.
