Dealership Mail Flyer Contest...Scam or No?

So my husband and I received a contest flyer from a dealership about 30 minutes away from us. It was one of those that if you scratched off the numbers and they matched the contest number then you won one of those prizes!! The prizes were $25K cash, $5K cash, up to $50, and 70 inch flat-screen TV!

So we scratched off the the three scratch off spaces and the last combination of numbers matched the contest numbers.....we won! So Im searching everywhere i see fine print to make sure you dont have to buy anything in order to claim a prize! and then I find it..."No Purchase Necessary "! SWEET!
I called the number it said to call after being a winner, so they end up making me an appt to go claim my prize. LOL So now at this point, Im pumped thinking we are going to walk away with something! So we pack up the kids and take a ride down to this dealership, get there and i get introduced to some survey taker. LOL he sits me down and asks what kind of car i have, how many miles it has, is it big wnough for my family...basically trying to set me up with a salesman in the dealership to try and sell me a car! Once he realized I wasnt trying to buy a car because, I just purchased a new car 2 years ago, he got back to my contest flyer! LOL He circled my "pin number" which we would be matching to a board of pin number next to their prizes. $25K and $5K plus the 70 in ch flat screen, I was excited! We matched the pin numbers and I won! ....$5! 5 dollars! ROFL! I was a little disappointed, but hey I walked away with 5 bucks! Cool huh? =]

This is the biggest scam i have ever seen. If we didn't get at least $5 i would have went in the dealership and i would have raised hell! We had to drive 40 minutes to get to this place and they took up about 1 hour of our time. The only good thing that came of this was that we got to eat Taco Bell before going home. If we would have won 25K i would have not bought a car from them anyway so they would have just wasted the money. Maybe the money is better going to someone who needs a car. Not that we don't need the money or anything but id rather see someone get a car who does not have one. Would i do this again? Maybe if they send the flyer next year we will go down again because more chance to win something. Maybe we will win the 25K and we will be ready to buy our second car! Who knows only time will tell how the clock ticks.

Definitely a scam! LOL who knows though, he said he worked for a company that was hired by that dealership to survey the customers on the service that the dealership provides as well as how well they treat their customers. this guys was all the way from FL and the company he works for takes public record and DMV records to get addresses to send these contest flyers out. which apparently is ok because that's all public record. i for sure thought i was at least getting 50 bucks, its all good though because the best part of that trip was dinner at Taco Bell, which we dont have in our town. so it was a nice treat and the kids seemed to enjoy that too! thanks for responding jkeyz, and hopefully next time we win more than 5 bucks!! =]

Those are marketing flyers we have a lot of those in our malls but because of numerous complaints of people being forced to buy things. Well that's a thing of the past now because most malls have banned such unethical marketing practices.

$5 isn't really worth the time spent running around like that, so I would be furious! Then again this sort of spam I just throw away without even looking at it because they're all borderline scams, as all the actual prizes never even exist, and like you saw in the "best case scenario" you'll just get few bucks, essentially just wasting your own time. Stay away from these ads!

Haha, it sounds funny but I really don't think it's was a anything to be happy about. The time you invested in trying to claim a price, the petrol you used and the stress you put yourself through is absolutely worth more than $5.

I wouldn't call it a scam either because you actually got something from the deal even no matter how little the amount is worth. What I would just say that the $5 is not worth the stress.

This type of stuff looks serious scam. I wonder if there is any agency from govt that keeps an eye on such contest and the scams. I am guessing if there is then it can protect people. And people can be made aware of this sort of the stuff. So yeah that's something many of us need to learn too.

I try to look at the prizes to find out the reward and maybe the bonuses, if it looks too good to be true, I know it will be an outright scam. There is so many scam site online doing one contest or the other so one has to research more before participating in it.The government might not be able to do much.

Why did you ask if it was a scam? We have had those before, I think we won a little bit.

Yes, that was a scam for sure, at least I was scammed in a similar way. Unfortunately, people scam each other all the time, and this is annoying. I hate that everything around us is scamming, even all these programs we download and install on our ok also can be a scam, and they pretty often are scams. Recently I found an app that warnings me wherever I have a dangerous app extension on my PK and this is a really awesome program. By the way, the program I am talking about I downloaded on this site https://www.bustathief.com/what-is-adware-adware-scam/. Stay safe and have a wonderful day!

This I heard that just divorce for suckers. I only trust verified lotteries or promotions with prizes.I remember how my parents also decided to participate in this prank and I remember how my dad fought with everyone in that office because they cheated on us. My dad didn't trust any lotteries after that moment. I am now waiting for the important results of the lotto lottery after which my life should change dramatically.
