I'm more on science fiction, fantasy, mystery and psychology thriller type of genre. Got tired of watching those really predictable romantic comedies scenes as I've been watching those kind of scenes during my childhood because of the time my Mom and other older people in the neighborhood tend to watch them in the prime time after the news and you don't get to choose which channel to view on television.

narutos3nn1n,
I am also less apt to indulge in RomComs as much as I am in science fiction and fantasy. I like thrillers too, and I like when all of these genres are mixed together to make a science-fiction thriller, like Blade Runner, for example, or a fantasy thriller, etc. I especially like seeing sci-fi movies on the big screen because they usually contain epic graphics, etc. I was mainly referring to the written word in terms of genre here, but film also obviously counts.

My favourite genre of fiction is horror. I love reading horror novels. The way they unbox the mystery is way more appealing to me. I also would like to read fantasy novels, it is more like a game changer for me. Historical fiction is also very intresting, I read them when I was in a mood. But, my all time favourite one is always Horror fiction.

jasminemax,
I recently heard a critic say that the reason we love horror so much in our culture is because it gives us an incredible sense of danger, but we do not get the ultimate circumstances or consequences of the violent outcomes this genre tends to portray. In other words, horror gives us catharsis.

Me too, I'm a huge fan of all horror movies or any horror related things and this genre makes me more active and gets me more excited. Like as what you have said, Horror Fiction is an interesting genre which I definitely approved. I love how people would be scared of a Horror movie or scary pranks because that's the purpose of having this kind of genre, I would be really sad if something about Horror movie was shown up and people at the cinema wouldn't scream like it's the most sad thing.

For me I always love reading romantic fiction books because I do believed in happily ever after. It's kinda childish to others but that's the real me and some people said that I am a Hopeless Romantic Person. It was in my High school days when I consciously started reading romance books, until now that I am married I still do reading romantic books. Everytime I went to book store I will never forget to buy romance books because that is my forever hobby to read.

nashi05,
I remember growing up that my grandmother constantly read romance novels, and she had boxes and boxes of them, with their yellow and pink page edges, in boxes in her bedroom. It's ok to be a hopeless romantic as long as you don't get run over by those heartless folks out there, right? I think that as long as we keep reading, no matter the genre, we are enhancing our minds, imagination, and vocabulary.

I also love romantic stories but I am more on romcom w/ mystery style stories. Plain romantic story is kind of a cliche for me so I want stories with some kind of twist.

I agree with you here to a degree about the ROMANTIC genre. I think that it can get a bit formulaic, which I think is something that a lot of people like about it because they can relate to it and enjoy it for those reasons. However, I tend to get bored with that genre pretty quickly because the characters tend to be, for me, so predictable. There is some inventiveness in this genre, but the infidelities, the unrequited love, the scripted sex scenes, etc. just ten to grate on my nerves after reading a few of these. That being said, though, that's just me, and I totally understand why other people like these novels so much. Different strokes for different folks, of course.

I'm more into sci-fi and/or rom-com fiction. I prefer these genres because i do feel attached and connected to it. One of the favorite sci-fi books I love is the I Am Number Four series. I only watched the movie first, from then on I subscribed to every upcoming books and buy all of them. It may be fiction but sometimes there are things that we learn from here that comes handy in our daily lives. I think it comes with your beliefs on how you choose your favorite genre. May it be romance, non-fiction, history, etc.

I like horror genre. I also write short horror stories. I have an account on Mirakee, wattpad. And I often post horror stories over there. The reason I like it is because it requires us to think a lot to post horror genre stories. You can see that horror stories require lot of innovation too. Otherwise they just come out as boring nonetheless. So that's one reason i try to write more of horror genre stories.

I will check out your stories! I love a good scare, especially when there is some sort of weird creature or monster involved. I mostly read science-fiction and I really like when the book also has some horror or thriller elements.

There definitely must be a lot of creativity involved when writing in the horror genre. I would imagine that a good understanding of anatomy and physiology would be helpful, too (when writing about blood and gore and death and such).

I am on MirakeeApp and Wattpad under username : spiraltales. Most of my stories are thriller with borderline horror. And some of the time I also make use of the psychological element in stories. I am trying to have better practice of these genres so far.

I think horror and psychological stories require a lot of thinking. I have tried to work on lot of those stories and released them. I have yet to write on genres like scifi and romance. I don't think I can write those.

I like the horror fiction a lot because it maskes me have really intense emotions and it makes me scared, which is something that I like, weirdly.
I enjoy watching really odd horror movies, where the plot is weird as well.

I prefer horror and thriller genre espicially in movies. I like watching Death Note, The walking dead, the annabelle doll movies, childs play, and many more. I love to feel some chills and the adrenaline rush when we are watching these genres.

I love mystery, fantasy, thriller, and even romance. I prefer reading this kind of genre because it makes my reading more interesting. I don't like cliches because it makes the story boring. When I read this kind of book it takes me to a roller coaster ride and gives me the adrenaline rush and the excitement to finish the book and the eagerness to know what the ending will be.

My favorite genre is science fictions. I prefer to watch it not to read it from articles and books. I mostly adore the movies when the topic and concept of its story is about outer space adventures like the movie gravity, moon and especially the martian. This movies made me think that those event can actually be possible in real life?
Well, we don't not know. But maybe it might.

My favorite genre is a mixture of mystery and horror. Since my favorite author is Stephen King then you must know what I mean. I just love writers and fiction that don't talk about how one single room looks like for ten pages but instead the books that are packed with action, horror, adrenaline, scariness. The books and fiction that make you feel things - it doesn't matter if bad or good. But I have always believed that whatever you read should have some sort of effect on you.

Oh and I occasionally also enjoy a good murder book. The ones with weird serial killers are my top pick. The likes of authors similar to James Patterson.

I like magical realisom and sream of consciousness. One of my best fictional book based on magical realism is One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. My favorite book written as the stream of consciousness is Ulysses by James Joice. These two books are my favorite books, I never get tired of reading these books again and again. I like Magical realism because it tries to associate improbable with probable, an illusion with reality, fantasy with the truth. I like the stream of consciousness sbecause it tells how the mind works.

I adore Magical Realism. I love Calvino, Borjes, Marquez...and I love movies like Pan's Labyrinth, etc. Joyce is amazing too--I am particularly fond of Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man. And Dubliners, of course. I have taught magical realism in my literature courses many times over the years, and it is one of my favorite sub-genres of fiction.

It would probably have to be action or thriller books. I also tend to read some fantasy books. I very rarely read any horror books but I have read a few kids horror books from Darren Shan when I was smaller. I don't really read books anymore because I just don't have time or interest to read books anymore. I think it's probably the same with quite a lot of people as well.

My favorite genre is science fiction although my favorite series (A song of ice and fire) is fantasy. I like science fiction because it is really interesting to read about the things that can happen in the future and think of different scenarios. Many futuristical visions written years ago have become real but some of them we consider funny now. It is all just guessing what the future will be like.

Well, my favorite genre is Science fiction, it keeps my minds alive, and on curious state of consciousness, I have been a life-long reader of science fiction. Over the years I have read numerous discussions by acknowledged practitioners of the genre
trying to define what it consists of. Set in the future? Depending on scientific innovation as a centerpiece of the story.
Science fictions help sharpens my mind and soul and keeps them aligned to the electromagnetic force of the earth. which makes me get inspiration from source energy.

My favourite remains the romantic fiction for I believe in the power of love and how love can help to bring happiness and harmony among people. I enjoy watching movies that play the romantic part a lot even when my friends think that I am acting weak and not going for the horror fiction, I do not care for I feel excited when movies I watch end in happiness and love.

Watching and reading romantic fictions has helped even my love life in a way that I do not lack words whenever I want to express my feelings to the one I love and she loved me too for that.

I like suspense, mystery, magical and love stories. I'm a wide reader and also a movie addict. I can appreciate anything as long as it can make me think on what will happen next and turns out i'm wrong. I don't like stories that i can predict the outcome. It annoys me and make me regret reading it. So most of the time i searched for something that is already recommended by many people. The best sellers. So there's a big possibility that i won't waste my time and money on that book or even movies.

My favorite genre of fiction is Horror. Horror movies may not have the best storyline but I just love the thrill of watching it. This kind of movie is never boring. Sci- Fi horror definitely. The reason I like it so much it's because I think It can actually predict things that might happen in a near future and this adds to the feeling of fear. It's terrifying for me to see something so far away from my reality and yet so close. Just think of movies like Alien, Doom and so on

Horror is my favorite genre. The possibilities are endless to what stories, situations and characters can be spawned from a good horror story. There are no boundaries and you aren't confined or constricted to staying within any sort of parameters. You truly can let your imagination run away with you.

Harry Potter, Star Wars and Lord of the Rings are my top 3!. Obviously I love Science Fiction and Fantasy. Maybe I was influenced by my children since we watch each video over and over again. I have also collections of Harry Potter Books and I love reading it. I am pretty much amazed of the concept of the author and I can't believed how wild her imagination is. Every time I read the books, I feel that I am in the world of Harry Potter. How i wish there is a world like that. In fact I am also collecting memorabilia of Harry Potter! See? how fanatic I am in a genre of fantasy world!

It's science fiction for me. I really love the idea of time travels, intergalactic phenomena, and something that breaks the fundamental laws of Physics. Just informing, I am pursuing a career in the science world so I don't really believe them but something inside of me are hoping that science fiction can be true. I really appreciate when something happening in the the story is somehow have a scientific explanation or the theories that seems impossible are proved and happening. It's like, wow, for me, I hope I can really do that to. I dream I can bend the laws of Physics, prove something that will blow the minds of the world, and most of all, to experience a time travel, lol.

diels1001,
We are cut from the same cloth, I think, when it comes to our preferences. I too love science fiction, and with the way technology is exponentially advancing, I have seen things which were considered science fiction when I as a kid (robots, possible time travel, artificial intelligence, anti-gravity technology, etc.) actually happen in mt lifetime. It's crazy. I am only a layman when it comes to science, but I am fascinated by it and the implications of what we have discovered in physics and genetics over the last century. I too, like you, have dreams that only advanced science could fulfill. Hopefully, I will be around long enough to see some of my fantastic space travel dreams to come true. Time will only tell.

nothing beats Sci-fi! Sci-fi rules! Simply because it states facts that might be true due to its scientific explanation but it was never been proven. It is like proving something that is nothing. You get what I mean there and just try to understand. One good movie that I will suggest is watch the INTERSTELLAR movie. It is related to TIME and SPACE. The story's twist is very very fascinating movie. I guarantee you that you will watch the movie twice.

I love sci-fi the most. I started reading when I was 4. My mother was an avid reader and we spent a lot of time at the local library when I was growing up. The best books for me, the ones I read and re-read over and over were always science fiction. The first real novel I tackled was Dune by Frank Herbert. I was 8 at the time and I fell in love with the giant sand worms and dreamed of being blue eyed and full of spice. Over the years reading has made me appreciate how authors imagine a better world and sometimes and even more frightening future for us all.

I prefer mystery, romance and fantasy as my favorite genre of fiction since I'm fond of stories which can leave you guessing who is who, who is the killer and so on. I like also reading love stories about how two persons become bound to each other to the end that eventually end up getting married, how amazing that is. Lastly, fantasy because I love when the characters have and use their magic powers which I think is really cool. God bless and thank you.

I also love psychology books. I read book before its a bout a little girl who is very fascinated with fire. She seldom talk and when she interact with people she like to show off creating fire. It's not a fire starter thing like the movie its like a mental disorder she was able to get when she was three years old. i forget the title of the book though.

Science Fiction. Has anybody watched Jurrasic World? Like I never watched Sci-fi before that. Now I look for Sci-Fi movies all the time. They thrill me and keep me excited. Horror is a bit overrated for me and the fact that I never seem to get any good sleep after watching horror movies or reading horror novels makes me just not like them. Romance? It's okay but not for always. Sci-Fi is a good way to get that adrenaline rushing.

I prefer thriller. It usually, has clever ending that maybe you didn't see coming. If I don't figure out the ending of a movie before I'm halfway thru especially right up to the end that's great and often times. Thrillers will have such ending. As a viewer, you are always guessing what is going to happen next.

It seems many of us like Science Fiction genre. Unfortunately, I see more and more “Sci-Fi” stories
being written like literacy fiction with small hints of science. I see these especially
in contests. And don’t get me wrong, these stories usually have well written
voices and descriptions, but also It has no interesting plot. Sometimes, I see
these contents winners barely being Sci-Fi – barely having the robots and
aliens and spaceships in the plot. This frustrates me the hell out of me. I’d
prefer Sci-Fi to be more plot/action driven than literary.

Anything related to space is my jam. Especially if it is about intergalactic space travel, and the possibility of other civilization existing on another planet. I don't know why this gives me pleasure, maybe because the possibility of it is extremely high for billions of galaxy, trillions of stars, and unimaginable number of planets were scientifically confirmed. That is why it is considered to be the final frontier of our species. And by that, this makes me feel excited every time I stumble upon on this genre of fiction.

I prefer romance. Romance novels for me are an escape route from the drudgery of every day life. I know in most cases true romance is dead. Reading novels is a way of keeping the dream or fantasy truly alive. My best authors are from the Mills and Boon Collection of Penny Jordan, Cathy Williams and Maya Blake. I'm so addicted to these books i get the full collection of 12 modern romance novels every month.

Mine happens to be horror, as much as most people don't fancy horror movies but I am not most people as my personality is rigged in horrifying stuffs. Anything horror gives me pleasure and I enjoy watching or experiencing it mostly at night.

To completely appreciate a horror movie, the dead of the night seems to be the perfect time to embark on such task as the timing would intensify all the freight elements used in producing the movie.

Among the horror movies that I have watched are; the evil dead, hell raiser, Z-nation, helix, Ghost ship, dracula, etc. The reason I enjoy watching these movies at night is it helps me to build my resistance to fear. As I am writing this post, I can boastfully say that I hardly get scared of anything, and it's due to the influence of watching horror movies.

I have also totally been into horror lately myself. I watched several horror films yesterday, I have Shudder, Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon Prime, so I have tons of movies, too many movies, to choose from, and I have to limit myself from watching too much and bingeing on the different categories of films available to me. I just saw a film yesterday called ANTIVIRUS. It's an experimental horror film with a lot of cool ideas, and I highly recommend it.

I love science-thriller types to see as a movie adaptation more than to read it in a book. What I love to read in a book are mystical-reality types. Those who are very creatively written that at the beginning was written as an ordinary story that suddenly morphs into something confusing. But generally, I love reading books of any kind and I am one of those who would love to compare the film adaptation to how I imagined the book while reading it.

I would have to say that for the most part I enjoy the fantasy genre most, and pretty much everything that is encompassed by that umbrella term. I particularly enjoy science fiction melded with fantasy, such as Star Wars. I feel that realistic science fiction such as Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, or Firefly are fun to watch as well, but I like it when things get really fantastic. Integrating elements of magic, adventure, and storytelling with science fiction, such as in Star Wars or Doctor Who, is the most fun.

I love Firefly! An ex of mine turned me onto that show, and I became addicted immediately. It is bittersweet, because it is no longer on or ended so fast, but I also think that the series was almost perfect just the way it is. I loved the movie too. The fantasy genre is what I grew up with, and I think that I learned how to really read and to develop my vocabulary reading authors such as C.S. Lewis, Tolkien, and others. It sounds like you are really into the science fiction genre as well, so you and I have similar tastes, to be sure.

For some reason I've never liked fantasy, I find it too unrealistic. The likes of Star wars and Harry Porter bore me to death.I may watch it but I can't stomach to read it at all! Fiction for a me is a form of relaxation I use it as form of escapism from real life, I would hate to imagine that I could be talking to someone who is not from this planet or who is half wolf. That's why I read romance, it's often very predictable. They end up together or break up!

I am also a really huge fan of science fiction, and this genre has been a part of my life since I was a kid. I started reading Star Wars comic books at a young age, after I saw the movies, and then I would frequent the science fiction and fantasy sections of the bookstore at the local mall. The next thing you know, I am reading Asimov, Heinlein, Le Guin--you name it. There is so much science fiction content out there that it is impossible to keep up! I also like seeing things that were once just imagined in science fiction become manifested through technology years later in real life. This is always fascinating to me.
