I've had a growing disdain for anything that has a clickbait title in it. If it's an article someone's sharing on Facebook, you can guarantee I'm not going to read it. If it's a video that someone's promoting, you can guarantee I'm not going to watch it. I think clickbait titles are a cheap ploy, and I'm making it my goal to not give in to their tactics.

In general, I get tired of a lot of videos shared on Facebook. If I see one of my friends constantly sharing content that I don't care to see on my newsfeed, I'll start to unfollow them. This way we still remain "friends" online, but I won't have to see anything they post or share.

Click bait headlines are definitely one of my biggest pet peeves. Nothing worse than visiting an article and finding out it's totally not what the headline portrayed it to be. Another one for me are links that speak of something, and you click out of curiosity. Then when you land on the page, it's just a Youtube video. With no article or print to be found. Finally, news sites that want you to subscribe or pay a fee before you get to read the whole article. Always a classic.

It's even more infuriating that those sites you may click on, which have very little to no content show, are littered with ridiculous ads. This tells me that their only intention is simply to get as many clicks as possible from the clickbait nonsense in order to garner as much ad revenue as possible. Kind of sucks knowing that my curiosity has gone to help someone getting paid online.

Judas2018
There's a way to garner ad revenue without being obnoxious. That's what ad slots are for. They blend with the site or blend with the page. The ones that just attack you with pop ups, slide downs, etc. It's like an assault on the senses. That's the wrong way to do it.

TheArticulate,
I too agree that clickbait tactics are annoying and ridiculous. I also think that they are a bit rude, deceptive, and tackly. I also had to unfollow a lot of my facebook friends--I didn't drop them, like you mentioned--during the election period and after because of the constant pro- and anti- Trump rhetoric and vitriol that would bombard me just because I wanted to check my status, inbox, or IM a friend. Clickbait tactics, though, really piss me off because they are a waste of my valuable time.

Clickbaiting is extremely annoying and I have noticed that actual social media pages for newspapers credible websites have started to click bait their articles as well. It's awful and it's a shame that these companies have to stoop so low so that we click their links. But it's not much of a surprise that it is happening. Physical newspapers have been doing it for a while and are still doing it to be fair, they will make a headline more interesting so that the person actually reads the content.

I agree with you here, clickbait titles are the worst! What makes it worst, is that when you click on that pseudo interesting topic, it has a second page together with pop-up ads! I usually browse with my cellphone nowadays. You can just imagine how hard it is to deal with those kinds of tactics, just thinking about it makes me really angry.

Sometimes I still become a victim to those kinds of post, I really hate this curiousity of mine. To deal with those, I had to discard my thirst of curiousity and just close the whole screen without second thought. -If I ever get baited, because lately I pay them no attention even if it is very tempting.

TheArticulate,

I agree wholeheartedly. I always thought that the purpose of a headline was to give the reader some idea of an article's content, but vague clickbait headlines seem to be the prevailing trend these days. I generally refuse to click on them. This is partly because they annoy me, but mainly it's because I've seen so many clickbait titles that led to underwhelming articles that I don't even feel curious anymore.

I don't really think it can count as a pet peeve but the thing that really grinds my gears is when there are people offering to work as paid posters but they do can't even write a basic sentence in English. I understand that there are people from all over the world on the internet and of course, there is no requirement to speak good English. Most people will have English as a second language which is probably why they are not too strong with it. But at least practise basic sentences before you try to do paid posting.

It baffles me that people don't think before they post on social media. I just wish people would try to have a basic understanding of the topics they post about before they post them. Furthermore, if it isn't really meaningful, just leave it out completely. I understand everyone has moments, but it's crazy that people can't be bothered to take a minute out of their day to consider the topics they claim to be passionate about.

Well, what annoys me online the most is Facebook. I have to use it for professional reasons and it makes me sick really. It's an invasive site and it prods your privacy and tries to force you into making "friends". Friend's suggestions are one of the most disgusting things in there. Like why can't I be happy with fewer people in my life? Quality over quantity always.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

PedroP,
I totally understand what you are saying here, but I disagree with you somewhat. I have made some good connections, especially for my business, because of friend requests. People who do use facebook for the right reasons can utilize it for a really awesome networking force. That being said, when the facebook robots make all of their suggestions to us, that can be very annoying and distracting, so I do totally understand what you are saying here.

Well my online pet peeve is that most of the people nowadays are not responsible with their comments especially bashers. Its really annoyed me that they thought they were right as in they know the whole thing. Another one is the online networking. People will invite you to join in their online business to earn money or points and telling you that in order to benefits or earn big bucks is to invite people as your downline its annoying because they just want to milk out of you and when you pay for the registration they will ignore your queries and they will let you stand in your own online business like planpromatrix. There are still bandits even in the online worlds.

Facebook is also my online pet peeve. People post just about anything they think and everything that happens to their lives that we don't care about. Some people are too reliant on Facebook. They can't live without it. It's like they're online 24/7. They post about every little fight they with their boyfriend. They complain and whine online on just about anything. Some people post when they want to "simple brag". I do have an FB account but I seldom use it. When I do use it, it's only when I want to connect with some old friends that I haven't seen in years.

I totally feel you here. I used to have my FB account to keep in touch with my all friends. Suddenly, they all started some kind of competition, trying to get the bigger number of friends, then they began to use their accounts as their therapists. Now, is like you are reading a teenage diary, or a drama story every time I open my FB. It is so annoying! That is why I don't use my account anymore, still have it to remind me of certain friends's birthday.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Xyruz13,
I know your point about facebook but in my own understanding about that site, is to connect with friends old or new friends. I have a lot of facebook friends posting their status from time to time, posting foods they eat and bragging stories. But what irritates me most is that when somebody post short massages like; "I swear you gonna pay for this!" and you don't know what she mean by that. Is she angry to someone or what?. Then if somebody will ask her about is any problem that maybe they can help her but she never answered back and yet she still keep on posting like she's in a battle field but she will never let you know who is her enemy.

I am tired of the clickbait titles and social moral lecturing. For example, "10 things to do for your girlfriend" written by woman who never got married. And another "5 things you should do instead of having kids" written by girl who never wanted kids. That's something setting a bad tone for the society. I think we have to understand that clickbait titles and the news which are mostly fake are not much adding the value. So on the reality ground. I think it's better to avoid such titles and the media.

DEFINITELY FAKE NEWS, TROLLS, BASHERS! Everytime I see negative comments, people sharing obvious fake news It makes me want to report them repeatedly, I can't even count the number of times I have reported a post or an account for spreading negativity or fake news online, they didn't even think about what other people may think or feel about their actions. This is also the reason I deactivated my twitter and don't use facebook much anymore. I now only use it for the messenger to talk to my friends and get an update from them from time to time. I hope developers get to resolve this soon enough because they are corrupting the internet and its users, and I also think that people must learn to be vigilant with what they see, say and do online, because one's actions may be seen by everyone online and it can affect them negatively too.

God, yes. The fake news also grinds my gears because there seems to be much more lately. There are so many sites that post fake news simply to get traffic without even realizing that they're damaging their credibility and reputation.

Also, it is quite worrying how many people end up getting fooled and believing these fake news... then it starts spreading over the social media platforms and so on. It's like a cursed cycle.

We're seeing a very bizarre phenomenon online today in regards to fake news. It's weird because I'll see someone on Facebook sharing articles and videos that clearly aren't from reliable sources, and have questionable sources behind what they're reporting. These people will take these half-baked ideas and videos as facts, but will be just as quick to denounce legitimate news sources like CNN and The Washington Post as "fake news", which just blows my mind entirely.

It's an odd shift of believing false things and calling reputable sources "fake", which I just can't wrap my mind around.

I do agree with all of the comments here. The social media has become a tool that greatly influences the society and even with the individual's well being. It has become a major alternative in the reality. We have secluded ourselves in the confinements of the virtual world that hinders our chance of seeing the reality.

It actually grinds my gears when people try to demand that Facebook isn't the place for politics. Facebook was originally a tool for rating the attractiveness of college girls, it has since been hijacked by baby-boomers who think it's a virtual photo album for their grandkids and memes about wine. It's like they are trying to preserve something that they never really understood.

Facebook is one means of connecting with others. It's a large platform for sharing opinions, and I think in these turbulent times, it is absolutely appropriate to bring politics to Facebook. The whole idea of "staying out of politics" is dangerous because it creates an ignorant population.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

TheArticulate
Political discussion is very important in my opinion, and given social media's ability to connect us with so many people, even those whose views differ from ours, it makes political discourse much easier and more prominent in our online lives.

However, there is a phenomenon that's growing online politically, and that's the ease with which we can find people who share the same views as us. It's easier to converse with those who we already agree with, and by finding groups online similar to ourselves, I think that just helps create divides between us even more because people are able to more easily find political "echo chambers" online, if you will.

The thing that I absolutely hate and drives me insane is when I Google a query, get some results, decide to click on a website and then immediately as it opens up I get like 2-3 popups asking for my email or to subscribe to them. Hello? I have just opened the website... at least give me a chance to look through it. I close sites like that because it isn't worth my time.

Another thing is when they force me to add them to the whitelisted websites on my adblocker. I find it very pushy - it's okay to ask me, "please consider adding us to your AdBlock whitelist to help us" but the whole, "IF YOU WISH TO READ THIS WHITELIST US" approach is bad.

Too much ranting and drama on Facebook is really annoying to me. Why some people have to post their family issues, marital problems, sibling rivalries, and insecurities on Social Media? Yeah, I understand that we are given the right to express our selves, but tagging and dragging your husband, your parents, your siblings, your friends and even your enemies to your self degrading posts is an act of a very uncivilized and uneducated person. Sensitive issues should be resolved privately to avoid destroying someone's name and reputation. We should be more mindful of what we posts on Social Media sites. In fact, I believe that Social Media should NOT become a tool of war, inequality, abuse and violence. If we have the discipline and decency in ourselves, having the appropriate Social Media etiquettes is just easy. We have to think if the news we are sharing is True, Helpful, inspiring, necessary and kind. Easier said than done, but we must try.

I hear you here, McLay18. I am sick of people airing their dirty laundry on facebook. Good God have some tact or self-respect. On top of that, when people attack others in that format, like their estranged lovers or family members, it is such a passive-aggressive and sad display. I look at this kind of thing as virtual second-hand smoke. I don't smoke, and I really don't want to smell your addiction and take in its harmful carcinogens. In the same way, I have enough of my own problems than to absorb your facebook drama just by logging in, so usually I tend to just unfollow these types of "friends".

Pretentious trolls with inflated egos but with low intelligence. I just can't stand this type of people. I mean, they just can't wait to jump at every opportunity they can get to shove their opinions down your throat, preaching their stupidity as if it was the gospel. They are too one-sided and you just can't engage them in an intelligent discourse. To them, you are either a friend or foe. That's it. Once they mark you as an enemy, your opinions and arguments won't matter. What matters to them are their egos and their feelings.

If you meet this kind of people online, my advise to you is this. Don't engage them. It would just be a waste of time.

I dislike the tracker software that allows websites to know that before I visited their site, I searched for watches on say Amazon. I go to another website and up pop hundreds of ads for, yes you guessed, it watches. I'm not afraid of big brother mind you, but I don't like the idea of my online patterns being monitored, sold, or monetized. I can see how if you are rich and wealthy you might love the idea of getting bombarded by ads. I just don't want to be added to a research group out there without my knowledge.

This is something that started getting on my nerves a while back as well. I search for camera and photography gear pretty often, and once I've completed my browsing, I've found that ads for cameras will follow me around everywhere I go for weeks on end. It's kind of unnerving knowing that my online behavior was being tracked, and probably sold, so that they could target me with these ads.

I work in marketing, and I attended a conference several months back that dealt specifically with social media. It was fascinating and kind of scary, because our presenter talked about how precise and focused our targeting methods could be when we target our audience via social media. He talked about targeting people with a 1 block radius, which is incredible.

The most frustrating thing is when I click on an article online and I cannot use adblocker on it. I say okay, I get it, you need to make money so I disable it and reload. After doing that there are so many adds I cannot read the article so I spend a minute either clicking "accept" or a X mark so I can see the article. I'll read the first paragraph and then click to show more after being intrigued and in order to read more I must like their Facebook page or subscribe to their Youtube channel. Once a website does that to me I will forever remember the link and avoid the website as much as possible for the rest of my life.

No pretentions, but I did love Facebook back in time when FarmVille and Tetris were on their peak and I was on my Facebook-amusement-because-it-is-a-new-thing years. It was fun and made people connect through games. Now, slightly aged, every time I scroll down my Newsfeed I become sad, sometimes a bit furious, because Facebook nowadays is infested with nonsense stuff.

There is this person who posts her selfies with captions that are not at any point related to the face. I’m like “Uh, what’s your point, exactly?” May be there is a matter with me from making these petty stimuli biggie but this makes me sad.

One friend once posted to another friend’s wall saying uncanny words about certain events that I thought they were the ones who only knew what they were about. Similarly, a friend also posted to another person’s timeline about minor stuffs like where they are going tonight or about expressing sentiments which the public does not have any idea why. And a friend posted to the wall of a store establishment for ‘elite’ and ranted there her bad experience about the services and she worried because she was an avid buyer of the ‘elite’ product. Understandably, posting whatever on Facebook is free but that freedom is tagged with responsibility or a more thoughtful form called etiquette. My raging mind would usually say “Uh, hey, Messenger is a thing and is free, would you bother?” If I have to be deep, I think people doing this are implying something just to show to the public that they have issues, to want them to pay heed to his/her mystery or to want them to pity him/her. Well, to be fair, there are exceptions to this matter such as birthdays, condolences or congratulatory messages.

Saving the best for last, we have the hypocrites. These are the friends I greatly am disappointed at. These are the people who love to gossip around, who love to say ‘f*ck’ or ‘b*tches’, who love material things, who love to bridge people for wars, and at the same time who love God. Her favourite subject on her timeline are Book of John and Book of Matthew while her favourite subject on her messenger are John and Matthew and there stinky smell. I mean, you can never fool God. Anyway, who am I to judge?

At some point, I was once guilty of doing one or couple of things abovementioned if we refer to my young, playful version. For almost a year, I had been ‘unfollowing’ friends to avoid my rage but now it finally came to an end since I stopped using Facebook at any purpose.

This comment is not in any way made to offend someone here. This is just my personal experiences.

Advertisements and prefetch or auto loading videos PERIOD. I have satellite internet and, the largest plan available to me is for 50 GB of data per month. I have to run multiple ad and media blockers to keep those things form loading and, using my data. If I want a product or service, I will find a website to purchase what I want on my own, I don't need videos and pictures telling me to buy something I don't want. If I want to watch a video, I know how to click a play button and wait for it to load, I don't need videos loaded before I request them.

I do not shop on E-bay or Amazon because of the advertisements on other websites, I block anyone that posts promotional videos on my social media accounts and, I simply close websites that won't let me see the content unless I turn off my ad blockers. If sites want my traffic, they can respect my desire to use my limited data allowance for what I want to see and, not for advertisements and videos that I have no desire to view.

Too much selfies on social media. Some people seem to capture every moment they have, on top of that they use filters too much, one thing i am really uncomfortable about. I also do selfies but you can really count how many times i upload my physical image without filters or editing. if you're going to alter a picture It can no longer be counted as an image of who you are, it is considered an artful rendering like what others always say. Well i am not saying it is wrong, i just think it would be better if we make images of ourselves naturally. I'd rather see pictures taken in a beautiful ray of sunlight than pictures taken in bathrooms with a sunlight filter slapped on it.

I do hate people using hashtags in every post that they do. I mean, not everything requires a hash tag! I think we should still be mindful in using hashtags. I just don't get why other people put everything on hash tags, is it to impress other people? Or gain more followers? Maybe if you know some other reasons, please tell me! I also hate it when people cackle about their personal issues on Facebook so much like couple fights, friend betrayals, etc. Why would you like the world know about this? What's the use of announcing your personal life to the world? Would it solve your problem? Aren't you afraid of sharing these problems you have? A lot of people seek for privacy so why do you offer yours so much?

Okay, I'm not mad or something here, I just got carried away. LOL Till then!

I guess that maybe I do not like overly exhibitionist behavior online or otherwise. Now people even speak the word "hashtag" in conversations in order to emphasize a concept, and it kind of makes me laugh out loud a bit. We live in a reality TV, talkshow society, and I think that people have just become way too accustomed to airing their dirty laundry and dysfunctional personal lives in public like some sort of sociopathic confessional. Facebook is notorious for having people call out their ex-lovers, family members, friends, co-workers, and basic acquaintances for any number of perceived transgressions. I have always thought this was in poor taste, and in some cases, I think it can be potentially dangerous in terms of a person's reputation or personal life. I agree with you that there is a problem with people engaging in this kind of behavior, and I tend to try to avoid online drama whenever possible. Good post here.

I hate bad spelling! Of course everyone can make mistakes (and I make them too) but if I see people that confuse your with you're (which is something so basic that it is absolutely unforgivable) or words that mean completely different things like cologne and colon I get really, really angry. If someone is a native English speaker they should know better than that.

My pet peeve would be people who share news or stories without fully understanding the situation, without doing further research on their own, or not even having read the article in its entirety. If an article has a misleading headline and you choose to share it without knowing what it's really about, it's called being irresponsible. People often forget that whatever they do online will impact someone else even if they are not an influencer. Every share, every like, every comment is recorded, so people should take the whole social media business more seriously. It's no longer just about sharing things with your friends. People who make self-righteous comments on sensationalist headlines also bug me because it's obvious that the commenters haven't read the full article and based their opinion on a deliberately misleading headline. While this is also partly the publisher being irresponsible, readers also have a responsibility to inform themselves properly.

This question is amazing, and I hope everyone gets a chance to read this post. I absolutely can't stand facebook to save my life. But the main thing that I can't stand is the level of knowledge that the users have. I know that there are people out there that have no one that is trying to cause them harm, but sometimes you have no clue who poses this threat. Why would you post a live video of your current and actual location for the world to see. I am informing everyone that reads this....... SAFETY FIRST.... And if you have children, think of them as well, and FIRST...

The most annoying thing for me in the virtual world is not being able to make enough money. This is my only online pet peeves. As I am an online writer and internet marketer, I need to earn enough to pay bills, buy supplies, pay back loan and save money for the rainy days. However, getting jobs is becoming very difficult these days. Most of the jobs that I find online are poorly paid. I had to spend an hour just to make $2, this is making me frustrated.

I totally agree, earning least amount in the internet is my biggest online pet peeves. This is why my mother always told me to get up and be active and get a real job but the fact that it's so hard to get a real job unless you're a graduate and has a diploma you can show to any company you're gonna apply to, but I don't have one or anything to show them. And also, watching too many ads on one YouTube video is so annoying, like I know they want to earn money but that's a bit too much, like how can you watch properly with that ads keep popping every 2 mins on your YouTube video. :/

Click baits, annoying trolls and attention seekers on social media. These are on of the reason I don't go to Facebook anymore. I really get irritated when I see people who are like this, and it ruins my day, so I stopped. I only open it now when I really have to. I also can't take people who can't respect their differences with other people and just really have to push down other people's throat their own beliefs and opinions. But what really pushes me to the edge are the online bullies who seem to really get a high out of other people's misery and flaws, as if they themselves are really perfect. I have not experienced this before, but I can surely empathize to those who have suffered this.

Luckily, I have not had these types of bad issues with facebook because I do use facebook a lot to promote my blogs and other things. I am sorry you have to avoid it because of this, but if these things were happening to you, I don;t blame you. Every now and then I get some kind of "group spamming" in my instant messages, but usually facebook shuts it down because of other people complaining before I even have to do anything about it. There is no excuse for bullying under any circumstances or in any formats, so these trolls really are reprehensible. It's sad that we have this online forum to share ideas with, but people can be so immature and close-minded and abuse that.

While I agree with all of you that clickbaits are nasty and on my list too, I'd say the most annoying one for me is waking up to a facebook public group that you can't read anything because it's from some foreign country and you are in a group! What's worst is that group posts some either nudity or murderous videos that you never really want to see. The most annoying part of it all? You can't do anything about it. No security features on these groups. All you can do is leave it and block it afterwards.

After the this rant, he blocked me from replying or contacting him, till now I wonder why someone would do such annoying thing. I have tried looking him up with another Facebook account but my search wasn't fruitful.
