Online Job for Rural Residents

I am seeking a work at home, online job that pays more than a few pennies per day. I am excellent with customer service and, technical support and, there are virtual call center jobs out there but, I do not qualify for any of them because of my internet service provider and, telephone provider.

Like many people who live in rural areas, my only option for internet, home phone and television is satellite. That means I have a VIOP phone that relies on my satellite internet connection. That internet is fast, up to 25Mbps download and 5Mbps upload for usage of 50 GB per month. The problem is the latency of 700ms or greater. That latency is unavoidable with satellite internet providers and, because of it, I do not qualify for any of the online jobs that I have found that actually pay a living wage.

Does anyone have any ideas that may work for me?

I recommend https://gotranscript.com/transcription-jobs. This is actually a transcription job. All you need to do is to transcribe audio/video file to text format. You don't need to have a fast internet connection. All you need to have is a computer, a headphone, and an internet connection. For taking a test, there's 2 exam which is multiple choice and audio transcription test. I suggest you read the guidelines first before you take the exam. Don't worry, this is a very legit job. This is my current online job. Hope that helps. Online Job for Rural Residents

Thanks for this suggestion. I will look into this as a possibility for extra income. I've just applied for a caption writing job, which seems pretty interesting, but this sounds pretty cool as well, and I can type extremely fast, so this should be pretty easy, right? This does help me as well.

Oh, that's really nice. Can I ask where you've applied for the caption writing job? I've been looking for those for a while now but haven't been able to find anybody that would specifically recruit solely for that. Rev does it but doesn't need more members, they only want transcriptionists. I'd appreciate the share, thank you Online Job for Rural Residents

That's so funny, Tronia.
I just applied at REV, yesterday, and I have not heard back just yet.m However, from what you are saying, I guess that has dried up. Oh well.

Cool, but i don't this is the best option because the OP stated clearly that he needs a job that can pay a living wage not pennies per day, i have worked for this transcript sites, and it's not actually worth it, for the average person, except you have great typing speed, and the pay is not actually sustainable, you will hardly make 3dollars in 4hours or 5.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

DarthHazard
That is the issue though. It is extremely difficult to get a proper online job and a job with a living wage if you are looking to work online. Because of the issue with latency, there are very little "online" jobs that are available for him to do and those will not really have that great wages. The best option for him is to create his own business or to work a physical and offline job.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Authord
Yeah, you are kinda right, but i don't think it's too difficult, if you have the right skill. Getting a sustainable income online is possible,
If you have the right skill, a digital skill. But if the person in question can't learn a digital skill that can sell in the online market, then he can create his own physical business like you said.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

gamergurl
I would disagree. A lot of writing can be done completely offline if need really be, so this sort of latency would only be an issue if they needed to make calls online - which is something they could just use a phone for, although it would be somewhat more expensive option.

It's true that some worthless tasks are not worth it, but there's a lot of actual jobs which do pay well which merely require one to be able to use email and deliver the worked documents back and forth over that connection.

I have tried applying for a transcription job but I found it quite difficult. Don't you need a training for that? What application do you use by the way? I heard this job actually pays well, that's the reason it made me really interested.

You can utilize Google Docs> Voice typing for auto transcribing (as long as the audio is clear). I also use Grammarly (add-on) for grammar/spelling checker. I also use Ears: Bass Boost (add-on) for the audio enhancer. Those add-ons are for google chrome. Hope that helps. Online Job for Rural Residents

Thank you for sharing those! It's just that the idea of transcribing is a rather new idea to me, plus I don't know anyone who actually do it. I'd try applying the things you mentioned next time I try learning it again. Did you go for any training or workshops before doing this kind of job?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ColdFlameChris
Nope. I never got or did any training for this. I just heard about transcribing which is very new to me as well. What I do is I gather all the scenario/experiences/questions that all the transcribers ask on Facebook and then take note of it. That's where I learn some information on what to do. You can check this Facebook Group :

https://www.facebook.com/groups/333584743670520/?ref=br_rs
https://www.facebook.com/groups/GTEmloyee/

Even though it's a Filipino Group, mostly, they still ask/answer in English. You can even check if this is really legit base on the screenshots, experiences that they encounter. You'll learn a lot from them.

While this may work out for some people, I wouldn't get too excited at the prospect of transcription work from sites like gotranscript. I actually worked there for a while when I was looking for online work, and it turned out to be a pretty poor experience. Not only is the pay very low, but a lot of the work is excruciatingly hard to get through. Often times the audio quality is incredibly poor and hard to work with, and the reviewers can be very strict and downright mean. I'd give it a try, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ColdFlameChris
Yes, you can say that the pay is very low but this is for sure income and we're sure that it's legit. There's no easy job. You have to be patient on this kind of job. At first, you'll think that it's not worth your time but eventually, in time, once you'll get used to it, it'll be easy for you to earn at least $10 per day which is not bad. I've tried so many online jobs but the question is, is it really paying? We're all here because we're searching and still can't find a stable online job that's really worth our time.

Thanks about this. I will try this soon. However, is there any country preference in here? I hope there isn't since skills is the one to judge in here. I have a lot of time, though. I know some sites that are good but some of them has preference over other countries and sometimes needs a registration fee in which it contradicts everything. Why do we have to pay when in fact we're finding a job to get paid? LOL. Moreover, I hope that I could handle this job and the clients' demands.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ColdFlameChris
Nope, there isn't. I'm from the Philippines and they're paying equally wherever you are or even you're in US, Canada or wherever. English is my second language and honestly, I'm not that good in English. Maybe you're wondering why it doesn't show on my comments, that's because I'm using a Grammarly (add-on) where you have an auto grammar/spelling checker. You can easily search for them in google. https://www.grammarly.com/Online Job for Rural Residents

I have never done transcription job, however, I hear that is is very lucrative and one of the highest paying jobs available online. There are many companies in my town that hire people for transcriptions. Perhaps similar companies are also in your town. You can also apply for online transcription job. However, in order to be eligible, your English much be perfect, you need to understand English dialect properly and be able to speak English almost like natives. If your English is not good, you will never be accepted. I will have to check the site you have mentioned.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ColdFlameChris
Agreed. You should at least know or understand to speak English to fully get the correct grammar on every transcription that you're doing. There are some ways that you can use to help you make your transcription less hassle like uploading your file on Youtube to get the subtitles because, for me, Youtube is the best when it comes to transcribing a video file rather than Dragon Transcription Software. You can also add an extension of Grammarly that can help you correct the grammar. This is also a good way to improve your vocabulary, by transcribing files at the same time, earn some.

I can write and speak English, however, my English is not as good as natives. I hear you need to have English skills like the natives in order to get transcription job. I use Grammarly and I find it very useful. I am also trying some programs to improve my vocabulary and speech. Thank you very much for your suggestion.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ColdFlameChris
If you have a doubt about your vocabulary or having a hard time spelling the words that you've heard on an audio file since that's the first time that you've heard and no matter what you do, you still can't find the right words that would fit the audio, you can use Youtube to transcribe the audio files for you and then just do some adjustments to perfectly match your transcription job. All you need is to upload the audio file on Youtube so you'll get the transcription once you tick the Add subtitles/closed captions to generate subtitles and then transfer it to your work file. It's not 100% accurate but it will definitely help you to identify all the right words that you're looking for.

Well, there are a few sites where you can work online but I have to say that like most jobs you will do a lot and earn little. Unfortunately, it's reality. You could try micro workers, crowd flower or Mturk. Also if you have a creative mind you could try creating and running your very own website to promote a particular product. That way you can earn money through affiliate marketing.

Best of luck!

Being patient and focused are two of the basic virtues that one needs to have once we are talking about starting out an online business in the sense that there are going to be challenging times at the beginning, but the ability to get it above that level is the best thing that will happen to such people.

I always find difficult thing, in dealing such connection problems. The only thing that, makes it so hard was, when ever we pay in good terms, they don't do the same thing, which is also irritating. We have 50mbps connection, but in reality, it's just a number with fraud marketing to us. I always go to a computer shop so that, when I work of something else, I prefer to go outside and work out there.

I understand such problem, and we have the same problem to face. I hope we find a satisfying, and a good job. I hope everybody will have a solution, for this type of problem. Now, I only rely on internet opportunity, as of now.

It doesn't really matter where you live to apply or do online jobs. The only requirement is a somewhat good and stable internet and a computer, obviously. What options have you tried so far? What are your skills? What do you enjoy doing?

If you're trying to make more than a few dollars per month then I'd suggest the freelancing route. Join and apply at different freelancing platforms such as Fiverr, UpWork, and others. Make your profile, list your experience, ... and then try to bid on the jobs. Don't get discouraged at the start because you will be competing with many other freelancers but that's just how the online jobs work. Establish a good reputation and it will get easier!

I couldn't agree more with this! You took all the words out of my mouth, Tronia! I guess it could also depend on what major you had and things that interest you as well. A lot of companies especially in the ESL industry requires a stable internet connection and a computer that has an updated processor. We should make sure we could complete these essentials because if we don't, your skills and talents wouldn't be put to use in your online dream jobs.

I live on a farm, which means I am living in a rural area. The only internet connection available to me is phone data connection. I tether my phone and use my phone's internet on my laptop. Theoretically, my phone connection provider says the data speed is 6 mbps, however, the highest speed I can get is 3 mbps. However, I am making most of this internet speed.
Basically, I am a writer. I write on my blogs, as well as offer writing services to my clients. I use the internet to do research, submit my writings and publish my works.
Currently, I am working on an ecommerce site.

There are many trustworthy sites where you can actually earn online. You can join sites like Freelancer or Upwork. Since you mentioned that you have good customer service skills you can join Humanatic. Basically you get paid for reviewing calls over there. It is quite easy to review calls and you can also earn a decent amount.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Pixie06,
I have never heard of Humanatic. What types of calls do you review? Is it a customer service phone call job; in other words, do you field calls all day? I'd be interested in this and I will check out there website based upon your suggestion here. This forum has definitely provided even more options and opportunities for all of us to earn some extra cash working online.

I've tried Humanatic, they have different kind of calls from auto dealerships to dentist offices. You have to listen to the calls between the callers and the agents of those places, then you have a list of possible options you have to choose. They pay from 1 cent to 20 cents per call, depending on how long the call is, and the category you are checking out. But believes me it takes a lot of your time daily. For more info you can email me and I will explain.

The best option for you is to go learn a skill, and apply for freelance sites, when i mean skill, i mean digital skills, so you won't get stuck with the pennies you earn daily. By learning a skill that is needed in the labour internet market, you can earn a sustainable living by freelancing on fiverr, upwork, etc.
Then when the orders stop coming, you can use your free time for those micro jobs, to adds some bucks, in case you need to catch some drink.

It's unfortunate because unless you can sort out that latency issue, which there doesn't seem to be many solutions for, then you will have trouble finding a decent job with similar pay to a physical and offline job. I think your best bet would be trying to do affiliate marketing or developing your own online business. That way you don't have to apply for any jobs and get rejected because of your connection

Well there is affiliate marketing, dropshipping and freelance writing. As to how, there are a lot of blogs and youtube videos that you can refer to. I cannot do video or audio, that uses to much data - I am limited to 50 GB per month at high speed, then 1Mbps or slower once I use 50 GB. My skills are technical support and customer service but, of course none of those virtual jobs accept high latency, even though VOIP works fine, a lot of VPNs do not and, they need that to work in order to track home workers. So, needs to be chat or posting or writing, something that doesn't use a lot of data and, doesn't mind high latency.

BevH,
Why don't you try to do business?. Well, as far as I can figure out your concerns, you can't make enough money if your internet connection is poor. Some of the online job needs strong internet connection even Upwork because sometimes you got interview via Skype or given instruction through video call and that's need a strong internet connection. Try to do a feasibility study in your area of what good business you can do and post it online. Other than that you have to improved yourself, develop your skill and learned more about graphic designs, about virtual assistant, and social media manager. Search it to google there is a lot of information that can help you.

Try this site and register you can earn in this site as of the moment while waiting for a high paid job Online. instagc and this another site will pay you 10 dollar just read it and follow the instructions:usertesting

To have a job at your place. Stable internet connection and a computer is all you need to find a job online. Try to be a free lance and seek websites that you can earn cash. Maybe the cash you may earn is not the same as the price in physical works. But it's not that bad to earn by just sitting and clicking on your computer.

Today's time and technology innovations would be great in finding legitimate income online. Particularly when you are in a rural area where work is limited that means you are rarely able to find a substantial income. I've tried Cambly if you heard about it? It actually works both pc/laptop and smartphones. They hire English conversational tutor part time. You can choose your own time and the pay is good and on time. I'm not sure if they still operate 'til now I was not able to continue the job since I went abroad that time.

You can try transcription or data entry. Those jobs primarily need your typing skills and English comprehension. You can check on these jobs at upwork.com or freelance.com also offers these jobs.

Problem in this scenario is the internet speed. Most of the rural areas are suffering from that. And you can see that often that is kind of going to make more issues for anyone in the rural area. You may find that some of the time one has to get the connection lot better way. And for this to happen people have to focus on the rural development in many ways. Like electricity, water and other sources too. This way the online jobs are going to be there. Otherwise lack of internet and lack of electricity may not bring much jobs there.

Get a local job if you can and do those above-mentioned sites as a sideline source of income. But if you would really just rely on your computer and won't go anywhere, I suggest you do e-Book writing or article writing. Sell your writings on huge freelance marketplaces such as Fiverr and UpWork. If you can't write, then you should have another set of skills to offer those companies if you want to have a living wage by just using your computer. If not, then local job is your best option.

Local job is not an option. I have Wal Mart or Sonic to choose from, that's all and, those two are 35 miles away, so 100 USD in gas per week just to go to those jobs. Add insurance, wear and tear on the car, clothing required, etc... and, a full time, minimum wage, local job would cost be about 50.00 per week to go to, on to of spending my entire paycheck simply to get to work, I would end up paying 50.00 to go to work each week.

I have skills, technical support and customer service. That isn't the problem, the problem is finding a company that knows what satellite internet service is really like. It is stable, it is fast, it is reliable, VOIP works beautifully, live chat works perfectly, occasional video conferences of 30 minutes or less once a month are fine. The problem is companies making false assumptions simply due to high latency.

You can try applying for web testing sites like Usertesting. All you need is a microphone or a laptop with built-in microphone, a screen capturing software which is already provided by Usertesting, and some english speaking skills. It is an online job wherein you will be given a test and all you have to do is to express your thoughts about a certain website while your voice and screen is being recorded. If you take the test, it will just take 5 minutes or more depending on what time you finished the test. I already tried this but unfortunately, I didn't pass their test.

If you want to become a freelancer, sign up in Upwork. It is a site for freelancers and before you take jobs by other persons around the world, you also have your profile to be accepted. It just take couple of yours and If your profile is not qualified, they will give you another chance to make your profile good. Like the usertesting, I also didn't qualified in their. So I hope you try and pass these websites. Goodluck to you!

Online jobs are real and realistic for whoever is ready to do it. It's such a job that you simply do at the comfort of your home. The type of online job I suggest for rural residents is freelancing. Whether you are based in the city or a village, you can do anything (if you have skills) as long as you have high speed internet connection. In my country, there is no reliable internet connection in the rural area, therefore, there is a lot of restrictions on what you can do.

Well, that you are living in the rural area doesn't mean that you can not work as a freelancer in online site to earn money. All you just need is an internet connection and as long as you have a phone that can access the internet, you can be able to work on several sites that can pay you for working online.

There are so many of them, you only have to know the ones that are paying and those that are not paying so that you will not waste your time doing something and end up not getting paid.

Online jobs are great helped in case if you live in a city with internet connected to your pc will bring even more opportunities. You have options to choose. But in Rural place in India there are no such possibilities like in many places around the world. What will you do if places would be changed? Well, all the comments about finding a job online are extremely useful I have to admit. I'm also looking for a new job as I recently got fired due to Coronavirus cuts in my factory and I'm not that acquainted to the digital skills part that a lot of you are referring here. I even had a hard time to find the Employment's development department number to be honest the other day. I had to look everywhere until I found a number on https://digitaleguide.com/how-to-g...e-person-in-edd/ and managed to call someone.

Today, you can easily find many jobs where the only thing you need is a computer and an internet connection. I can't offer you a job till I don't see a CV that will help me better understand your skills and specializations. Because if you finished IT, you could find some really well-paid jobs in this field. Also, there are other vacancies. For example, you can work as a resume templates designer. It is not a hard job, and if you manage to do everything correctly, you can make a lot of money on that.
