Anyone doing reseller hosting business

I have once tried to do the reseller hosting for the clients. I used to move the web design clients to the reseller plans. And it was painful experience. People used to avoid paying. And they had their set of the issues for the rework on the website and the design. And on that note you can see that reseller hosting business can be hard. I think if we can do things then it would be not that hard for sure.

I think you're right in the sense that one has got to be careful with the way we enter nee business. I'm glad to have learned about this for I was also planning to enter into a hosting business as well.

Yes lot of clients turn out to be short ones. And that leads to more or less trouble. And on that note I'd say it's not always good to get into the hosting business. Though reseller hosting is cheap. But not worth the hassles.

I might get a few clients because I have some friends who have websites and blogs. If I offer competitive price, they might choose to host with me. However, the main question is whether I can give them the best experience of not. Another concern is gaining long-term clients. If the clients choose not to renew the hosting package, my business might fail.

I think another thing you can do is offer the local service. Like say offer design package with hosting. That seems to be something that many designers are doing. And it is working out for many. I am sure you can find out through experiments there.

That's a great idea. By combining hosting service with webdesigning and web building, I can attract clients who are new to the website business. People who never have had a website are very confused when it comes to launching a website. When I was new I had this problem. My host did not offer web designing service and when I bought hosting, I did not know how to get started. By offering web designing and web development service along with hosting I can solve this predicament.

Yes a lot of freelancers are surviving because they are bundling such services. You can bundle hosting with design. Also design with SEO and so on. Such upsell service is something many people are into. And they do it all the time for the business help.

If I ever start a hosting business, I will make sure to market my products with extras. For instance, U can sell hosting package along with website design, SEO service, social media campaign. web content development etc.
I think this is the wonderful marketing method if you are new in the business.

I think if you do this you should try to make sure there is going to be a demand for it. Do your market research, your due dilegance if you will. The worst thing, would be starting a business like this and finding out there is no market for it, or no one wants to use the service.

There should be a demand for the product/service you are trying to sell. However, having no demand does not mean there is no room to make sales. Did the market ask for iPhone when it was introduced for the first time? They made iphones and told the customers that this is a phone you should have. They created the market for iphone.

One should always have it in mind that the beginning of any business is always the most difficult time in the life span of the job. So therefore, a lot of patience should be taken and allow the business to settle in well before looking for getting a huge return from the business.

In order to do a business, you need to check a couple of things, such as:
Do you have funds for the business? You can start a business with a loan, however, if you fund your business through a loan, you will have to pay interest and you might end up paying more money as interest than earning money through your investment.
You must also check whether there is a room for your product in the market.
These things apply to all kinds of business including hosting business.

I think that people avoided payment because it was too high. TBH, I almost started to avoid it with my previous hosting. But I decided to be an honest man and just skipped them. I've found a new hosting not so long before that. Well, not me - one of my companions. We have an online shop. He had found a nice instant dedicated server with low prices. And we use it for something like 5 years since then. It's better than our previous hosting, BTW. Because it doesn't crash.

I read the comments above and don't understand why people talk so badly about a business that they didn't succeed. I tried myself in this field three years ago and I succeeded. It didn't develop further, as the business brought little money and I sold it. The main thing is to promote your company and always work on it. A good example is my friends from MangoMatter. They have been working for 4 years and receive very large incomes. You should never give up. Don't be afraid to invest in your project and develop it, and you will definitely succeed!

I also planned to enter into a hosting business not so long ago but I gave up half-way through. Now I know for sure it's not a business I would start because it doesn't look like something I would do for a living. When I was starting my business I really was into checking different forums and reading articles about hosting. The one that I found the most informative was the hostmonster review. It reviews everything from speed to support and more. I do agree with what is said in the comments, you should bundle hosting with design if you want this business to be more moneymaking. Overall it's worth trying, so don't give up if you believe you will succeed.

I think it's not a good idea. First I think it's best to support the owners of hosting services and second, you probably know that it's not legal. Actually, when I wanted to use cheaper hosting for my newest website, I decided to find a man that can resell hostings for different people. I found a man that wanted to help me, but when I transferred him money, he cheated me and changed his contacts. After that situation, I thought that it's better to find a legal hosting service that can support you 24/7 with good technical parameters since I planned to host a forum. I did a lot of searches and found a service hostingfoundry that can help with lists of pretty good hosts of work and require not too much money to pay. I've used hosting for the U.K and it still works though.

need consultation, web platform hosting. This business has a very large number of hosting and web platforms. It depends on who you want to start with and how you want to start in general, it all depends on you. There are many hosting services out there, and depending on where you start, this will be the main one for you. Hosting is different for each person. Someone chooses for convenience, someone for style, but again everything depends on you. Personally, one site will most likely help you in this regard, which even I sometimes use when there are difficulties with sites. A very good site for both beginners and those who have been hosting for a long time 28msec.com

Venturing into a new business has always been embraced with skepticism.Nobody is ever sure about any new business. The first secret of succeeding in a new business is to take a baby step.So I will advise you start with an amount you can lose without feeling hurt and then add more money when you have more customers. You will surely make a profit if you start out well.

I think new business such as hosting can be a bit hard if you ask me. Because here the buying the hosting package is not the issues. It's making customers on that package and then passing the profit along seems to be the challenge. That's what I have noticed.

I am already paying $6 per month to host my websites. The resellar hosting cost $16 a month. By paying $10 more every month, I will have 25 hosting accounts. All I have to do is find customers for 15 accounts. If I can manage to get 10 clients, my business will sustain. My concern is how to get those clients and make then stay with my hosting.

I guess then selling the sub accounts at reasonable price can be a good option. But you have to compete with other shared hosting companies. That would be hard. But it'd be worth taking a try on that.

Apart from finding clients, I will also have to concentrate on retaining a client who has subscribed my service. If people subscribe for one year and do not renew the hosting, my business will fail. Therefore, I should also have to concentrate on providing best service. Since I am a reseller and I do not operate and manage the hosting servers. I will have to choose a hosting company wisely.

Never run in investing too much that you can afford or bear to lose is my advice to anyone looking at entering into a new business because something can go wrong at anytime as a result of the new bases and foundation of the business. It's good to have doubt because it's the only thing that would allow you thread with caution.

I think that's where diversification plays off in business. But the thing is that business have their own set of the issues like promotions and leads. So it may surely differ from one hosting business to another.

@Barida...I completely agree with your point. One has to be extremely careful when venturing into a new business, especially one as sensitive as hosting accounts.

I don't know much about hosting reseller accounts but it's good that you brought up the question, at least we can both learn from whatever positive and workable comments that comes through.

Well, you can do affiliate marketing for a hosting company and make money, there are many hosting companies that offer reseller hosting. The best part about affiliate marketing for hosting company is you don't have to pay money, yet you have a chance to make money.

You are absolutely right about pointing out the need to be careful how to jump into a new business, be it a hosting business or another one, there are risks that follows any business anyone can get into. Looking out for these risks before joining the business would give you upper hand in staying ahead of it.

I don't think so if there, we know nowadays that there are a lot of things works on in our each life. And one of that thing is called business. Lot of people want business because something will work of that thing in their daily life either me. I need business in my life to stand my daily life so I live.

I think you can make profitable business through reseller hosting business, it is also favorable as you get different clients who open your mind to business opportunities that you never thought of. In this kind of business you have to be careful, ensure they pay you money first before giving them, be optimistic in handling this kind of business as sometimes you will get jilted, don't rent out a domain rather sell it as you won't get to panic about who is not paying.

How you present the domain to customers matters alot as this is the way in which you attract them to want to buy, keep the designs of the domain on point always remember that.

I also see a market for hosting business as more and more people launch their websites and blogs every year. The hosting business is growing because people are interested in launching their own blog/website or perform eCommerce business. Even the businesses that are entire offline also want an online presence. If I can tap the market, I can do well with reseller hosting business.
The main problem associated with reseller business is to convince people to buy the service and make them stay with the business.

It's been profitable for some people I know, and a profit loss for others. It all depends on how much and how fast you can expand your customer base.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

That's true. I have seen many people making good money with reseller business. However, I have also seen people willing to sell off their business for a low price because they are making losses. The success of reseller business depends on your customers. If you have a lot of customers, your business is profitable, if you cannot find customers or your customers begin to abandon your hosting company, there will be a major loss.

That's exactly why you should use a lot of social medias, because nowadays that's the way to increase the interest towards your products in an innovative way, or at least a creative one.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Social media increases your reach. However, getting into the social media marketing does not guarantee that you will have sales. I have tried free marketing as well as paid marketing on facebook and I failed to generate enough sales to cover my advertising expenses. You will have to use various marketing methods in order to drive sales, from social media advertising to search engine advertising and emal marketing. You may even have to advertise offline.

Back in the day (2003) I invest $1,200 into a web hosting business and I didn't make a dime. And there were way fewer web hosts then there are now. And I don;' think that your going to get any customers unless you're going to be doing some kind of rock bottom price hosting. So in other words, don't invest any more than your willing to lose.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Judas2018
Sounds like a bad experience. That's the thing with web hosting though, it really is hit or miss. Most of the time in order to be successful, you have to find the right client stream.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

vinaya
I understand, @soulwatcher
If you did not make money back in 2003 when there were a few web hosting companies, how could I make money in 2018 when there are a lot of web hosting businesses.
The reason why it will be impossible, or at least very hard, for me to make money is because of the competition. However, I also assume that you did not make money from your business because in 2003 having a website was reserved for big businesses.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Soulwatcher
Well, you could try it and see, but please don't put any more money into it than your willing to lose.Because odd's are you're going to be wasting money. Look at www.webhostingtalk.com and look at the hundreds of people hosting websites for $.0.99 a month. How can you compete against that and make money?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

vinaya
I am a member of a few web hosting forums and I have seen cheap offers as low as $1 a month hosting. If I launch my reseller hosting, I will have to compete with them. If I cannot outwith them, I will never make money. There are two ways to do business:
1. volume-based sales: you sell more to make money
2. niche market sale: you sell few for a higher price.
I am not putting my money yet, I am just exploring the options.

I am not really familiar with hosting and the reseller hosting package. As a software developer and website designer, I am helping my clients to build websites, and also help them to buy domain names and hosting. I just started to get a hosting where I can host multiple websites with their own domain names, by this way, I am actually making some good money, especially if I continue to help them to renew the domain and hosting every year which I usually do.

I think it can be a good business if you already have clients, and they might just continue to host their websites with you, and you can make profits from this every year. Moreover, since you said you are already paying $6 per month, if you can get two clients, it has already covered the cost for the reseller hosting package. I think it's worth to give it a try.

I will check out the reseller hosting works and see if it works good for me too. Thanks for giving me this idea!

There's good money in helping less tech savvy people with buying hosting or obtaining domain names and such. A very finance rich form of consulting.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Since I am already paying $6 and only need $10 to get a reseller hosting business, I think my business will survive only if I get 2 or 3 clients. However, survival is not my question. I want to make profits. If there are no profits for me, there is no point in doing hard work (finding clients is a hard work).
I also design and develop websites. I have built dozens of websites for clients and I also have around 6 websites.

It's a difficult market to get into because of the fact that there are just so many different hosting sites out there. Can you truly do something different or offer something different to these other hosting sites to differentiate yourself? If not then I would be careful before going into this market. If you want you can try it out I guess, you never know, you might be able to create a nice profitable business if you advertise and run it properly.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

vinaya
Well, if I cater to a niche market, I might succeed. Instead of trying to pull customers from around the globe, I am considering to cater to the people in my town. I live in a small town, where there is no web hosting company. If I market my business to the people willing to start a website, I might build an income.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Judas2018
That's a good start. You might also find some neighboring towns where people have similar issues with lack of hosting resources.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

It's pretty obvious that if you think that you can make it profitable in one year then you would be able to do so in less time. Selling hosting is usually done on forums, but you can also try some social medias if you have any popular profiles there, because you know that nowadays the best place to find potential clients is on certain medias such as Facebook, Instagram and so on.

Actually the best way would be to go offline with this. Seems a bit counterintuitive, but the competition online is so fierce that you'd do much better in contacting small businesses locally and offering them your hosting services, and preferably with basic website options (learn something like WordPress, it will be worth the effort).

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

vinaya
Offline advertising is also important. In fact people in the small towns having a small business do not understand the importance of promoting their businesses online. Therefore, in order to grab their attention, we need to market and promote our products offline. Let me explain this. Mr. Harlo has a shoe shop. His customers are local people. We tell him that if his business has a facebook page and if we can get a lot of likes for the page, we can tell the people about our new arrivals. Harlo might be interested in our offering. Then we can explain to him how having a website will help him wide market and can even sell his products to the people in neighbouring towns. This is how offline advertising works.

Can you lead me to sources to learn WordPress? I wanted to learn this for a long time and there are lots of opportunities wasted because I don't know how to create websites using it. I do know how to create websites using raw web technologies and coding from scratch but this will be a faster option. Thanks!

I'm not sure what hosting business is too. But I think it has the same idea of afiliate marketing. Afiliate marketing is an online retailer that pays a commission to an external website for traffic or sales generated from its referrals. I want to join this kind of business soon.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

henrywilson
I wouldn't advise you to start a business in this area. Competition in the market is very high and it'll be difficult to overtake it. In 2016, I tried to open my hosting server but failed, after which I opened my forum and the site on which I earn money to this day. To somehow save money, I used discount coupons for professional hosting services, which saved me 20% of the investment that I directed to the development of the site. If your hosting doesn't gain a customer base during the year, then you won't make a profit in the next year, because customers who buy your services bring you money. Also, you'll need to work hard on the quality of your service and invest a large amount of money for high-quality equipment. As for me, this business is very controversial and risky, it is better to earn money on your site.
