So, it is the year of the dog according to the lunar calendar. While the Chinese New Year is celebrated by many here in America but, not by so many Americans. I would say probably in China town it is more of a big deal. I do however like many things about the Asian culture. They have great food, tea and modalities that I enjoy and utilize.

Yes we actually celebrate Chinese New Year in our country. Many Chinese live here in the Philippines. They are here mostly because of business investments and work. There are lots of Chinese establishments here as well and even China Town. Chinese are also involved in our history. It was back then when we were under Spanish colonization during the 16th to 19th century. They were known back then as Sangley. Chinese people have somewhat become bonded with us Filipinos. Even their culture is already entangled with the way we live. So, Chinese New Year is now a Holiday to us. Even I have no work today because it's non working holiday.

Proud Filipina here. Before, I had this general conclusion that Chinese new year shouldn't be a holiday since in the first place we're not even Chinese people, but then as time pass by and I would get a glimpse of our history, a glimpse of the Chinese people here in Manila especially in Binondo area, I came to realize that they have somehow contributed and influenced us. It's somehow intriguing that Chinese were the slaves in history and not the other way around.

Yes, it is actually a nationwide holiday where I'm from, and people really celebrate with various Chinese delicacies and fireworks displays. I'm personally not into it since one new year celebration is enough for me.

Chinese New year had been already apart of the yearly activities in my country which is the Philippines. Even though we are not also Chinese but then we give them some respect for their tradition since Chinese had been already a great partner of Filipinos in the business industry long before the Spaniards visited our country. Chines New year usually celebrated with some dragon dance with a colorful parade and decorations. I feel great to watch them because they are really entertaining and fantastic to have. Chinese people always made some prediction every year on what would be the type of animals that are lucky in a specific year. I find it very interesting their beliefs and practices and really do admire them because most of them are business minded people. Happy Chinese New year everyone!

We don't really celebrate Chinese New Year but since it's a holiday, it gives us a lot more time to enjoy the occasion. We do buy a yearly sticky cake which had always been associated with this occasion. The malls and sidewalk vendors sell lucky charms for the year of the dog and I saw some locals buying them. Many have the impression that Chinese people are wealthy because they faithfully keep traditions and practices that attract money so they try to imbibe those traditions in the little ways they can. it's nice to have one paid holiday but not so many people actually understand what the holiday is about.

The Chinese Culture is quite rich and one thing I like about it is their 12 Animal Signs or the Chinese Zodiac Signs. This sign is derived from your birth year according to the lunar calendar. I was born in the year of the rat. And right now the year of the Dog has just started.

Our country does celebrate Chinese New year .Each new year year is represented by a Zodiac animal sign. The red posters with poetic verses on it were initially a type of amulet, but now it simply means good fortune and joy. Various Chinese New Year symbols express different meanings. For example, an image of a fish symbolizes “having more than one needs every year”. A firecracker symbolizes “good luck in the coming year”. The festival lanterns symbolize “pursuing the bright and the beautiful”.

When is/was Chinese New Year. We don't celebrate Chinese New Years, however, our countrymen celebrate about 9 New Years in a year. There are about 92 communities living in the country and these communities have their own New Year. The official New Year is Vikram Samvat which is based in Hindu calendar. According to this calender, the New Year will arrive in somewhere in April.

Yup, Malaysia and Singapore are celebrating Chinese New Year in a luxurious way. Purchasing mandarin oranges, fireworks, new red clothes, shoes, home decorations, sweet candies, plums and cookies and the famous Bak Kwa ( BBQ pork ) which is not healthy yet people still buy them. Not forgetting the red packets ( and pow ) that children are looking forward to receiving them.

Overall, it is a public holiday where my teen could spend more time with us, family bonding and laughters

I do hope and wish for all friends who are celebrating Chinese New Year to have a great year and earn more money, waste not food and save as much as possible because everything is hiking up. How many days of holidays are there in your country? Here in Malaysia, it is a 2 days holidays but most business men would start work on the 5th day or 8th day. So, long holiday for all employees

We don't celebrate Chinese new year, we don't have Chinese blood, but we do respect their celebration, and actually in our country, it's regular holiday during the Chinese new year, our country respect their beliefs. In spite of many conflicts about our country and the China, we do respect them. Hopefully they will respect us to, specially in our rights.

No, we don't really celebrate the Chinese New Year. We don't have many Chinese people living in my country so that's probably why but I do know that it was happening because I saw it marked on my calendar!

So to everybody that does celebrate this holiday, have a happy New Year and a lot of health, love, and everything else!

I don't know any Chinese living here in my country personally, although I have seen some of them mostly in shopping malls and construction sites, I do know that they all celebrated their Chinese new year in whichever way they could here.

I only celebrated with my online friends and business partners who are Chinese and I had to pause all business transaction for them to finish their celebration before we kicked things off.

It's really great to know that this is the period of the Chinese new year. I mean new year celebration is a time to relax and get to keep one's mind off work and have fun. I wish all the Chinese celebrating a happy new year and hopefully a bigger new year ahead that is going to bring lots of goodies come their way. For us, we had our new year celebration the last couple of weeks ago which is December and it was a time I got to see some of my family members that we've not seen for a long period of timew now.

I think the Chinese new year is not celebrated here. And so far that seems to be norm. But yeah it seems like a good progress for the culture there. And that means other cultures accepting them. It must be a good feeling to see the Chinese new year there.I think someday I have to see how the new year looked like.

I live in a multicultural country and we celebrate the Chinese New Year and many other festivities each year over here. This day is a public holiday. The Chinese usually go to the pagoda on this day, they have lunch with their families and exchange gifts with each other, the children light the firecrackers and they distribute some special cakes to their relatives and friends.

Knowing that most of commenters here have experienced and saw how Chinese New Year is being celebrated made me realized how China has become one of the most influential countries in the world. With great economic status and one of the leading exporters of goods, there is no doubt that some of non-Chinese people embrace their culture and the way they live.

In my country we also celebrate Chinese New Year and during this time most of the people rad their horoscope. Some would also ask for feng shui to help bring good luck to their health, family, relationship, business and what so ever. There are also dragon dances that the kids really enjoy watching.

Sadly, in my country we don't celebrate Chinese New Year but I wish we did, because it is an interesting and unique holiday and I would love to learn more about the chinese culture, the dishes they traditionally cook for this celebration, the way they are seeing the concept of the New Year.

Chinese New Year is considered to be important festive of the Chinese community. Here in the Philippines, We celebrate this in hope of attracting prosperity, closer family ties and peace. At home, we usually wear red outfits and prepare food (tikoy) that are believed to drive off some bad luck.

Yes, we do celebrate Chinese New Year in our country. That is because our population is composed of 1.8% pure Chinese. That is only pure Chinese, we have more that are part Chinese. Even non-Chinese people here in our country join in celebrating the Chinese New Year.

In our country we have many Chinese citizens that have come for business reasons. Their new year is not declared a public holiday but they have many celebrations around the town. You are lucky if you work for one because you get a holiday as they celebrate. Chinese food which is normally expensive on this day is sold at a discount, so it's happy days for everyone as we join in the celebrations.

In my country, Chinese people are pretty closed with their festivities. They don't celebrate their festivities in public. I don't know if they celebrate them in private but think they do. I know this year is the Dog year because I saw it on the Internet.

We don't really have a big Chinese population in the country I currently live in--or not in my town at least--so no one is really celebrating Chinese New Year. It is really an unfortunate thing, as I love the festivities of Chinese New Year, even if I'm not Chinese. I grew up in New York City, and I actually lived right next to Chinatown. Between this and having loads of Chinese friends, I became really familiar with the New Year festivities and grew to love them. Maybe one day I'll get to celebrate with my Chinese friends again.

One thing that I love so much about Chinese people is their hustling and business mindset. Nigeria actually lack PayPal access to do business, so most of us get into business relationships with Chinese people and deal with PayPal. It's not easy getting to have one to trust with your money but once you get lucky with one, you are surely to enjoy the association. This is practically how I get to have lots of Chinese friends.

"One thing that I love so much about Chinese people is their hustling and business mindset."

Oh this is definitely a fact about Chinese people. In terms of business and industry, they are absolutely masters of their craft. This is especially true now with the economic boom that they're having over there in China. I've seen some documentaries about what goes on behind the scenes in China's business and finance sector, and those people are incredibly dedicated to doing the best job and maximizing profits. I suppose there is a reason why so much of the world's products are made in China.

Chinese New Year is one of our favorite special occasions. You can buy certain Chinese food that's only easily available during this. There's also the widespread of good fortune and sincere wishes for your family and friends.

Chinese new year really is well celebrated in our country. There are many Chinese people here because they see the country as a good hub for their businesses. My classmates who have Chinese blood are also often teased to give "Tikoy" to everybody. But instead, they see it as an opportunity to sell "Tikoy" and earn some profits. Happy Chinese New Year

Chinese culture is very appreciated in my country. Chinese people are everywhere and even the non Chinese are getting in on the fun. An example of this is wearing red clothing on special occasions like birthdays and special anniversaries, as well as on Christmas day and Chinese new year. It's a tradition everyone in my country follows.
