How do you reduce background noise in an audio recording?

What is your best technique for reducing background noise (such as sounds generated from outside or other rooms), when creating audio or recording your videos?

There are many noise canceling microphones available for use in your recording. Also, a quiet room helps.

I agree, noise cancelling microphones could or possibly help but a soundproof room would be the best option for reducing a background noise on a audio recording.

Be sure to cut off the television, radio and other external noises that would be picked up by your microphone. And, ask others in the house to be quiet while you are recording. This will reduce ambient noise on your recording.
