I love him so much I talk to him so much but when He is alone he speaks when with me he likes to hang upside down and want to be move like a swing At what age african grey parrots start talking clearly? Greys are very intelligent birds I have many birds but this one something different He is attached to me so much in the morning he opens his cage and come to my room climb on my shoulder and kisses on my lips and make cute sounds to wake me up <3
Usually parrots are very different and not like to be played like cats and dogs cuddle and kisses . Even I have ringnecks too but they are not friendly at all . even I have for 17 years now and they are just finding a chance to bite me :@ they just layed 4 eggs 20 days back still waiting for the babies to come so I can train them to be friendly .
My grey can make 100 different whistles and sounds and can talk 6-10 words . sometime he mumble a long sentence like he is trying to say something but I cannot understand .

Such a mama's boy! I think it's true love. At what age african grey parrots start talking clearly?

I haven't ever owned an exotic bird, like this. So I think it would be such a neat thing.
I did some research to answer this question. I'm not sure how much of this information will be useful as I don't know African Grey behavior or how they react or what they require. And I hope this is useful for you. At what age african grey parrots start talking clearly?

Here is a really good article about bird training, that had a few unique tips I have not read before.

http://www.birdchannel.com/bird-ma...01-13-25350.aspx

And according to this Yahoo Answer, the African Grey should start really chattering around one year old.

Please check out the best answer on that one as they have a good suggestion about leaving a television with child's cartoon running in the room if you are away. I don't know how these birds are with television noise, so of course, only do that if he is OK with sounds. My cats freak out about TV noise sometimes, so of course, go with how your bird is.

This one suggests some very clear ideas for talking with your parrot, as if you were teaching a baby or toddler to speak. For instance, naming every item you feed him. African Greys are more likely to pick up words and phrases that are said with strong emotional significance. That could explain why some birds will repeat inappropriate phrases as they have over heard someone in the vicinity talking in that way.

And this article covers some common African Grey Parrot behavioral topics.

And they say the African grey is one of the most talkative birds.

http://betterwords.typepad.com/bir...grey-parrot.html

One of the things mentioned was how using a 'repetition and reward' method, one parrot under study was able to learn dozens of words.

He is now 23 years old and they believe might even be capable of learning to read.

They were saying how these birds could have the comprehension level of a three or four year old child. So, basically a child who is going to kindergarten level in school. I think that's so amazing!

Working with your African Grey long enough, you might find he is not just parroting back your words but coming up with phrases based on words he has learned to express his internal feelings/emotions/thoughts.

I am very fond of parrot and planning to build an Aviary after my marriage inshAllah At what age african grey parrots start talking clearly?

These african grey are amazing I have pet alot of birds even handfeed cockatiel when he was 8 days old . I had to feed him 8 times a day with 3-5 hour intervals with a feeding syringe . But that cockatiel was really like my baby because I handfeed him for 2 months . He was always on me all the time I didnt clip his wings after 4 months My mom left the door open the cockatiel fly very fast like a sparrow so He doesnt really know where he was going and eventually passed the door and in the sky I cried almost 10 days I still miss him and the best part was when I was hanfeeding that baby after 2 months the way he acts around me and all my love for him I learned little about mom stuff because I couldnt sleep at night because of his feeding times and the little cockatiel babies need so much attention otherwise they can die with little carelessness.

As African Grey`s My fiance gave this to me as an engagement gift At what age african grey parrots start talking clearly? because I love birds more than anything on earth At what age african grey parrots start talking clearly? and the african greys are very intelligent birds they can sense each and every expression on your face I know its unbelievable but trust me when I smile my grey charms in return and when he see me depressed He comes near me and come on my shoulder and keep rubbing his beak on my cheek . I cannot live without this bird this is amazing .

But for his caring Its an expensive bird to keep as He belongs to Africa region and here we have to give him proper medication and feeds to keep him in best shape .

  • I have to spray him with water three times a day .
  • He gets daily 1/4 teaspoon of organic red palm oil
  • Multi vitamins and supplements daily almost 30% of his diet
  • Spray him once a week with his anti mite
  • 3 different types of feed along with natural fruits and vegetables
  • His calcium supplements in mixed in water
  • Bath after every 2 days
  • Daily 1 hour workout for his wings and bones
  • Wash his cage everyday and spray for disinfectants

The most difficult part for me for keeping him is at morning time he only wants to be handfed by me and atleast 30 minutes of kisses and swings otherwise he wont comeout of his cage At what age african grey parrots start talking clearly? . He cannot live without me and even when I am typing on keyboard he just play with my fingers all the time

Generally, African Greys begin really talking between 12 and 18 months. Many may say their first words at much earlier ages, but the real talking and chattering generally starts later. However, this does not mean that you shouldn’t be teaching your Grey until then.

From the moment it comes home with you, start talking to it. Talk to your Grey about everything you’re doing, explain everything to it, as if talking to a young child. For example, when you take it from its cage to its perch, say "Want perch." Eventually it may be able to tell you when it wants the perch.

Teach by association. Use the same phrase with the same task. It would be very helpful to begin talking about things that may eventually help your Grey have a little control over its life. For example, by teaching it to request for a certain food, or to be brought to a certain location, it will eventually be able to request things and feel a little more in control. It should be noted, however, that in the beginning it may begin requesting something over and over and over for the attention and game of it. And, it is a good idea to bring your Grey to that place or give it that item as often as possible, every time it is requested in the beginning, no matter how obnoxious it seems, so that your Grey has the idea that its request really does have results .

Greys are social creatures who learn to talk more easily in interactive situations. They tend to tune out recordings that are played either too often or for longer than fifteen minutes. If you use recordings, reinforce the words you’re teaching by repeating them to your Grey. Further, recordings are much more effective if you’re in the room interacting with your Grey

Additionally, many Greys appear to like cartoons and children’s shows, but again, the more you’re with them during these activities, the more they will learn. The more your Grey is around you and in situations, such as the family room, where it is around lots of human interaction, it will learn to speak more cognitively.
