Why Should Seriously Consider Starting an Online Business

I stumbled into an interesting article earlier this week. The writer, a freelancer from the Netherlands advices freelancers to learn their craft and perfect it, using one or a few of the many freelancer platforms to get better (at what they do) whilst earning some money along the way.

Once you are confident that you are very good at what you do, create a website, sell your services directly to clients.

Second move is to use that website for affiliate marketing because you can refer your web visitors to other sites and earn a commission each time they buy something (on the other site).

Many freelancers complain that they don't earn much but that is because they don't want to leave their comfort zone. Push yourself out, learn internet marketing and you'll most certainly see you fortune change.

I think you are mistaking online business for passive business. Online business can be both passive and active. Like say teaching other people is active online business where you can't make money sleeping. But if you open dropshipping store, it works with automation, it should give you money from the passive approach. So depending on that online business does not mean making money in sleep.

I agree an online business can be active or passive! Depending on the nature of your online business can be considered as a passive or active. When the business cannot function without your presence that would be an active income. Like in online teaching for example, if you always do your teaching on live streaming, the session will not start without your presence, that would be an active income. But when you prerecorded all your lessons and your students can login to their account and study the lessons by watching the videos perhaps that could be considered as a passive income. You'll earn through membership fees. You just have to create all your videos and upload it on your website then you could earn repeatedly even without you being online. I hope I somehow got it right.

I'm really trying to push my self out there to be able to get more jobs. There are jobs with very few freelancers in the niche like translating and transcribing which people really need people for. I think starting your own business can definitely be profitable and it allows you to take out the middle man in terms of payments.

However I do think there’s also a sizable risk potential of going it alone. I think as long as you’re pretty confident in what you’re producing then it’s often worth the risk though.

I agree and like this advise. In the freelancing world the real money is in having direct clients. Having your own website is more professionals and this is the way to attract especially business clients. I agree that you should also diversify your income and also put some affiliate links on your website. With freelancing you need to have as many income streams as possible, the more the merrier.
