What is raw foods?

I would like to consider alternative food lifestyles including vegan and have heard that eating 'raw foods' is a more healthy choice. Can you tell me more about the raw food lifestyle?

You might be talking about the raw food diet, which usually consists of raw foods (or those that are minimally processed or prepared). The concept of the raw food diet is derived from the theory that healthy properties in food is destroyed with heating. So for instance, someone on a raw food diet would eat more uncooked fruits and vegetables.

Some foods are good when they are natural and raw, such as vegetables or fruits and require no cooking. Other foods such as meats will always require cooking to avoid illness.

I don't go for gimmicks like this. If I need to eat, then I eat foods. I don't diet. I try to eat sensibly and walk when I can, but nothing too radical.

The raw food diet is about eating raw or barely cooked foods. Your food can be cold or barely warmed, but must not go above 118 degrees. The people who believe in the raw food diet, say this helps to preserve the nutrients in the food. Though it could expose you to bacteria and illness, especially if eating raw beef, chicken or pork which must be thoroughly cooked to kill the contaminants.

raw food or diet is basically food that hasn't been cooked. Most people on a raw diet believe that the heat from cooking destroys nutrients. So mostly they take fresh food and vegetables, in fact this goes in hand with veganism as they seldom eat food like meat which has to be cooked at high temperature to prevent ingestion of disease causing organisms.
Generally it is more healthy as it ensures proper intake of nutrients and selective feeding for healthy living and longevity

Raw food is, technically speaking, food that has not been heated above 48 degrees centigrade (117 degrees Fahrenheit). This usually means uncooked foods, or more specifically, foods in their natural state – nothing more, nothing less. By default this will mean foods that are safe to eat raw, which are the obvious foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds – but there are a whole array of raw foods both within these particular food groups and also many more outside of them that could very well be new to you. “Raw food” literally means “uncooked”. You may also have heard the term “living” or “live” food. This is often used interchangeably with “raw” in conversation or in writing, usually because it sounds much more appealing (and gives a better idea as to the feeling of eating this way) but technically the term should really only be applied to those foods that are still alive and growing, like sprouted beans and seeds, and the foods which are commonly referred to as “indoor greens” such as wheatgrass, sunflower greens (pictured) and pea greens.

Raw food is special specifically because it is raw. By the very fact that it hasn’t been heat-treated, it is replete with everything that enabled it to sprout and grow in the first place – life force, enzymes, water, oxygen, hormones, vitamins and minerals and so much more besides. Untouched, untainted, raw food is quite literally honest food – what you see is what you get. No hidden ingredients, nothing messed around with, just pure delicious fresh live food that we are designed to eat – living food for living bodies. And the good news for you is this: when you start dabbling with more raw food, you don’t just understand this conceptually, you actually start to “get it” experientially as your whole body cheers, shifts up a gear and starts to look and feel literally more alive. It’s at this point, when we actually have a first-hand personal experience of eating raw and living foods that the concept of what real food and nutrition is really all about starts to take on a whole new meaning.

I believe raw foods are uncooked foods that are consumed without being heated. Some person eats raw foods because they believe the heated ones are no longer healthy enough the good properties have been lost in the process of heating these foods.

For me, I will advocate this, if one has the opportunity to eat some food raw then, by all means, this should be encouraged.

Foods that can be eaten without being cooked are raw food. For instance, all fruits can be raw fruits because you don't have to cook fruits before you eat them. Some vegetables are also raw foods, for example, cucumber, cabbage, onion, lettuce, carrot, daikon, and radish can be eaten without being cooked. You should include raw food in your daily diet, however, eating raw food too much can upset your stomach.

Fruits are raw. I think the raw food style means eating things that can be cooked but you have chosen not to cook. It could be spinach, cabbage and parsley. Eating raw foods could be healthy but cooking has a guarantee that all germs have been killed and the food is well cooked for consumption.

Me too, for me the meaning of raw foods, is you can it without being cooked but being fresh. And I did also heard that by heating it, means that you are killing the nutrients on the food and also the natural enzymes they have.

But I doubt if you can kill nutrients unless you overheat the food. For example eating raw tomatoes is healthy and they have an enzyme that is produced in large quantities when you cook them. Meaning eating cooked tomatoes is better.
