The United Nations' (UN) International Mother Language Day annually celebrates language diversity and variety worldwide on February 21. They also encourage people to maintain their knowledge of their mother language while learning and using more than one language. It also remembers events such as the killing of four students on February 21, 1952, because they campaigned to officially use their mother language, Bengali, in Bangladesh.
My Mother Language is Urdu and Urdu will also be cherished on International Mother Languages Day.

The students of theUniversity of Dhaka and other political activists defied the law and organised a protest on 21 February 1952. The movement reached its climax when police killed student demonstrators on that day. The deaths provoked widespread civil unrest. After years of conflict, the central government relented and granted official status to the Bengali language in 1956. In 1999, UNESCOdeclared 21 February as International Mother Language Day,[1] in tribute to the Language Movement and the ethno-linguistic rights of people around the world.

Wow, this seems very touching by 5 students giving their lives for their country and religion is a very brave thing to do. I doubt if anyone one would do that over here in Nigeria for their own language.

Although, it's going to be very hard in Nigeria because we have over 50 different ethnic groups with different languages and culture which is going to make impossible for us to have one unifying language apart from the borrowed English language of our colonial masters.

This is the first time I've heard of such a language! But I really admire people who are so attached to their native language! You're cool!

I think that the native language is a part of the national culture and a very important part of every native speaker of this culture. Fortunately, there are still people who cherish their native language as an integral part of their native culture. And I am glad to meet such a person in this community! I believe that if you don't speak your native language, it's easy to lose your roots, to lose your identity. In addition, you probably know that English is the language of international communication and it is one of the most popular languages in the world because about 600 million people in different countries speak it. Well, my English is not very good, and I want to improve it. So I found the English Worksheets on -- https://englishlinx.com that provide good English practice.
