Selling your grandmother's food recipes!

I will always remember my grandmother's cooking! Everything that she ever made was delicious but slightly different than any other similar food recipe you might have tasted.
Selling your grandmother
Now, she kept everything on paper in her old notebook of recipes, most recipes were passed through generations in her family but some were developed by her alone, everything is organized and written in very detail so that her kids and grandkids can make the same food and never fail in delivering the original taste.

Now I wonder, what if I can sell those recipes? Especially the cookies part, I think she really has something unique in that notebook that may worth a lot of money.

I don't think she would mind about selling as long as our family would keep cooking those meals. How could someone approach something like this? How can you put a price on this sort of things?

Can you even sell food recipes?

This is a very interesting idea and could be dangerous. I know my family would probably kill me for selling the recipes my grandmother passed down. Can you sell them? Ofcourse in fact people do it everyday on sites like Ebay. How do you put a price on it? Well you have to see what kind of dish it is how much it cost to make it. Is this dish a entree, side, appetizer, or snack, these are the things that will decide the price you should charge. I think a different approach and one i would take would be to start selling the food rather than the secrets. Open a little stand in front of your house or sell plates to friends to start off. If it works out then i recommend open a store. In the business world if you have something nobody else has you license it, and never sell it. Thanks for sharing!

Well, my mother is the only one that inherited that notebook, I pretty sure she would no mind. But yeah, for some families this would be a big problem!

But think about how many GOOD food recipes are out there, undiscovered and unavailable to the masses! I bet some of the big chefs out there are buying these kinds of recipes and call them their own, at some point I'm sure even they will run out of ideas and start looking for alternative ways of creating new recipes.

Yea you are absolutely rite some people will kill you for this kind of thing lol. If your family gives you the OK i say start with Ebay. Many people are selling recipes online and it takes nothing to start up. I think you can make BIG money if you can get a dish into a restaurant or sell recipes to Top Chefs like you mentioned. I agree with Hitmeasap Below negotiating is key when selling your families guarded secrets. So many dishes have yet to be discovered brother your correct. Thanks for sharing!

You can definitely sell recipes but I've never heard of anyone selling one recipe at the time. They usually put it all in a cookbook. You can sell those literally anywhere. On listingdock, ebay, wordclerks.. You name it!

When it comes to pricing, then I would say:
Take a look at other cookbooks and price it accordingly.

In case you don't have something super-special. Then I would suggest to find and approach a specific buyer with that specific recipe. But that would also mean that you'll have to know where to look for a client like that. - And when you've found him or her, I would suggest asking them how much they're willing to pay for it. - If you're about to sell it to a restaurant for instance, then I would personally price it like this:

How much they will charge for that dish x 100 or so. Or perhaps do it even better. Make them pay 10% for each meal they serve. But that would require some superb negotiation skills.

Oh if I could get hold of my granny's recipes I would have an amazing cookbook to sell... but in all honesty I would keep it for myself and try and make those perfect roast potatoes that she always made.

I have such fond memories of my granny and a lot of them involve the food she cooked at special occasions. She was always making something yummy from us and she was a very special cook at that.

That is an unique recipe book. My grandmother is illiterate, she can't even read or write any languages except for Chinese dialect which she can speak. So, she didn't hand down any recipes to my mom. However, my mom learned Nyonya and Baba cuisines from her aunts whom she stayed when her mom passed away . She didn't hand down any recipes either because she was too lazy to write them. Instead, I learned to cook from websites. I jotted down recipes by scribbling them in an old exercise book . Later on, I will buy a nice book, write them out neatly for my teenager to keep. If my grandmother had written down, I would have became a chef!

wow! That's great idea!
you have thinked in a very unique way, which most of us failed to do so. I appreciate you!

First of all, you have a find a strong platform to sell your grandma's unique recipes. The way you promotes your business means a lot, also take enough care in fixing the prices.

I am sure that this idea is going to be a massive hit. congratulations! keep going Selling your grandmother

My mother and sister are great cooks. They have many unique recipes. Some of their recipes are their unique creation (self-created) and some of the recipes are experimentations (recipe from alteration of other recipes). However, my sister and mother are not food writers. I am not a great cook, but I enjoy cooking and trying new dishes. When I want to sell recipes, I can use my mother and sister's recipes without paying them anything. I have often thought about writing a cook book with their recipes, however, I am yet to write the first sentence.
Selling recipes is a great idea and someday I may try this.

Wow that could be considered as a family treasure. Their are lots of secrets about cooking foods of our grandparents and whats most interesting on it is its very unique and delicious in taste. If i have that notebook i will never share that and selling with those secret ingredients in notebook would be a great idea and what if those are so magical that may could bring you to succeed in life? You should try those things and if i were you i will keep it as a secret to avoid others from copying recipes.

That's was good of grandma. She must have been preparing different delicacies for the family delight. My grandma though didn't have a recipe book but surely had hers in her brain or head because she used to give us very delicious meals.

For the recipe book, I don't know about people buying but I think you can start a recipe blog, posting the recipe on it and monetizing the blog.

I think you can definitely sell any recipes which your mother or grandmother have, but it really depends on them. Like for me, I wouldn't actually do that because it is a precious and treasured thing that my mother and my grandmother can bring in their graves. Selling your grandmother

I have actually thought of this. My grandmother is in her 90s and has had a very health scares in recent years. I have been thinking about grabbing her old recipe box and publishing it as the cook book. I think she would really get a kick out of it. But then, I think of all the catty and spiteful family members who will likely be negative about it. Frankly, I tend to not care what other people think and do what I want. But, I wouldn't want people to create stress for my grandmother because of their negativity.
