Trees around the house, to cut or not to cut that is the question.

Those of us that own our own properties have a common problem that we all have to deal with. What is this problem exactly? The problem is Trees! They can cause so much damage to your house if a storm hits or if lightning strikes. They also provide shade on those scorching days. Its so difficult to decide what to remove and what to keep. I know if a branch is hanging over the house or close to a window it should be cut rite? Should we remove all trees that are close to the house and let the sun hit it? Do we leave some of them? We just purchased this house and i have no clue what to do about it. if any of you have any tips or tricks about this kind of thing please let me know.

As always thank you for reading please don't forget to follow me.

I think it would probably be best to get a professional opinion about the trees in location to the house and everything.

I perosnally do not like alot of trees close to the house. I am a worry wort so I always think worst case scenario about situations like this one!

We will see i am currently working on getting a chainsaw and a snow blower lol! Everyone saying that it is going to be a tough winter here in Berlin NH. The mining operation will be 60 70 degrees at all times lol but it will be cold this winter. We have so many dead trees around that we are going to put into our fire pit! I have been chopping wood all day and tonight its going to be fun! I will also think about the professional opinion i just don't want to have to pay for something that i don't need rite away. My father in law has owned a few houses and he tells me to cut them all down and get them away form the house as much as possible. Its possible he is correct but who knows i like shade too.

Yes Jkeyz2 I would also get a professional opinion on this one. There are a few things to consider and if the branches are really big you don't want them falling the wrong way and damaging your house, or maybe a next door property or even worse someone getting hurt!

I do think that branches near the house should be cut and possibly way back otherwise you may just be cutting them again very soon if they grow back quickly.

We had some branches that had to be cut or they would interfere with the telephone poles and wires.

Very interesting. I think im going to do it myself. i am a typical guy i know but its going to save hundreds. The plan is to cut them down and have great fires in our pit.

LOL oh yes the fire pit...

Cutting down trees yourself just reminds me of my dad cutting down a tree at his farm. I was actually filming it with my mobile at the time. Anyway my dad was chopping away with a chainsaw and as an engineer he had plotted the way the tree would fall. I'm not sure what went wrong but it could have gone very badly. The house was in tact afterwards and so was my dad, thankfully... but it was close I tell you.

Anyway he always has loads of wood for fires. So enjoy!

I Just hope i do not ruin anything! This could be an i told you so situation! I have decided to just cut down what is dead for now and leave the rest for sprint time. I have thought of many ways to take these limbs down without hurting the house and my wife has volunteered to help me. Yes we have so much wood laying around that it makes no sense to buy wood for our fires, not yet anyway! Thanks for sharing Lynne and i am glad i could remind you of something positive.

Deforestation is bad for nature and even man in the society, I wouldn't be encouraging cutting down of trees for any reason without it being replaced through aforestation. Trees service as oxygen producers and carbondioxide consumers, therefore it's very competent in helping clear the human atmosphere of particles that are harmful to their probably from inhaling it.

Tree cutting endanger some animals that lives on them, it thereby makes those animal homeless for the rest of their lives. I can agree to prunning of the trees that are growing out of shape but not cut the whole tree down completely.

I think if you have some animal issues around then having the tree is good enough. Because often that adds some protection. Cutting them often leaves your house open for animals to see. And they are more likely to get near the house. In such case if the animal is carnivore then that can be problematic too. You have to consider that part if you are cutting the trees around.

Another thing is that cutting trees to protect the house may be one thing often as it may help keep you seen in the roadside. Often it can be protection from the strangers who may make use of the trees to hide and stalk around house. So scenarios can be different for safety.

I'd say cut them. I think keeping bushes or a nice row of small plants around your property looks a lot better than large trees. Trees also draw unwanted visitors like birds and insects. It's only a matter of time before they get into the house, in the case of the insects. So I think making sure your trees remain under control is important.
