Ideas for decorating glass jars for homemade gifts?

I have in the past seem some beautifully decorated glass jars for homemade gifts but for the life of me I can't remember what any of them were done with.

Has anyone here decorated glass jars before?

I am going to make handmade gifts for everyone this Christmas and I am collecting glass jars to fill with nice things.

I will fill some with biscuits. others with handmade soaps or scrubs... and maybe even some pretty handmade candles... who knows where I am going to go with this!

Any ideas would be much appreciated. I'm going fully homemade this year!

This is something new to me but i like the idea. What kind of jars are you using? Are they like pickle jars or are you using mason jars? I think getting a jar of stuff as a gift would be a neat idea! This could be good for almost any occasion and the best part is that the jar can be reused by the person you are giving it to. They can use it as a cup, or to store things. All around this is an awesome idea. Mike shared some pretty cool idea via Pinterest and people are really going all out. I wonder if people make money doing this might be good to make up some jars with gift ideas already ready to go. Last minute shoppers will probably eat this up lol!

i bet you could use like tissue paper or a thin paper, even like magazine clippings or make like a mosaic pattern with modge podge...
or what about just some nice string or ribbon tied around the top! i have also seen people use like mason jars and take a piece of cloth or printed fabric and put it over the top of the jar...good luck. i would love to see some of your gifts!

Yesterday I wanted to reply to this discussion but unfortunately Mike had to add a pinterest link, and let's just say I was so very distracted. I think it's amazing what people can do with just a little glass jar and decorations. Not only are the jars great for holidays such as Christmas, but they can generally be used for any holiday.

Perhaps I too will try to decorate some jars for the Christmas holiday approaching, or even maybe thanksgiving. However, I'm not going to collect the jars, I will probably buy them in a case at the dollar store or something. I don't want to go through the trouble of removing the glue like Lynne. LOL.

And if I get a great hack for removing the glue? It will save the environment, you know everyone is going green and if I go green before you, then you truly will be last!

Definitively you should check out some ideas at Pinterest, they have amazing pictures of tons of models of decorated jars. We did some for my godson in his baptism, and they were really easy to do, we just got the idea from Pinterest, then we saw some YouTube videos, bought the supplies and took a day off to make them. Our models where pretty simple, just a mix of acrylic paint in different tones on a water base, then we put the jars in, let them color, and put them in a base to air dry. The top was cover with foamy dots, and then we filled them with cookies and mini brownies, they were really cute and everybody liked them.

I have really not had this done before but maybe now it has come to my notice I might give it a trail and see how it looks. Personally, I enjoy making my own gifts during festive seasons. It affords me the opportunity to bond well with whoever I am making such gifts for.

Glass jars decoration seems to be interesting and hopefully from people suggestions on how to go about it here, I would find it to an easy task to take on.

Maybe I would also have to look up the Pinterest and chose from there which one would be really good for me to get into its making. I am practically enjoying how informative this platform is going, it's been very helpful in several cases that I have come across.

Awesome! This art of decorating glass jars is a great way to express one person. You can put some artistic designs at the jar. You can put any foods like cookie, candies, chocolates and many more. Lastly, make the cap of the jar be presentable and attractive.

I love your ideas. I'm looking to do the same thing this Christmas, but I'm not as creative as you. I will simply be using my jars to make pickles for everyone. I will make different flavors, that's as creative as I get. A good thing we have plenty of cucumbers in my country especially now. To make the jar look professional, I will use a christmas themed paper and some glitter to decorate the outside of the jar. @Heatman6190 is right get ideas from Pinterest, they have loads of creative ideas.

Glass jars are a good idea to be a present this Christmas. If you put something colorful on the jar, it could be a good decoration in the house. My mother always make glass jars as a giveaway every Christmas. She puts sands with different colors inside the jar. It is so cool and good idea to decorate in my room. So I always pick the best combination of colors.

Yes my wife and I use to make tasty fruit jams packaged in glass jars to give as gifts and sometimes to sell to neighbors during the holidays.

To give the glass jars an artisan look we tie colorful ribbons covering the lid on its side, then we put it in a little brown paper bag with handles.
