Hatchimals egg toy is it practical? Would you buy it?

Ok guys you know every year some crazy toy hits the market. Most of the time this causes parents to go into a frenzy looking for these items. Black Friday people are getting trampled to make sure their kids have everything they want. Hatchimals egg toy is basically a real life Tamagotchi?. Its basically a toy that comes inside of an egg and once you get it out of the packaging it will break it self out of the egg like a real animal. I think its cool but i don't think its worth it for the price. These things cost over $100 dollars and all it does it light up and break out of an egg? i don't know but this seems like a huge sham and they seem to be sucking my kids in lol. Below i have a video of some kids unboxing and watching these things go.

Check it out!

My kids will not be getting one of these at all for any occasion. I just don think us worth it and chances are after a few weeks they will forget about it. I would hate to see a car note worth of toys get pushed to the side and not used at all. What do you think? If you have kids or if you would have kids is this something you would buy for them?

Gonna have to say no on this one! Wow! Makes me glad my daughter was always into Littlest Pet Shop and Steam games and these little flash games you play on the computer. She is just as happy playing Minecraft as anything else. So yeah, $100 is a bit much! Just a little over that and i could buy her another laptop. For me, it's not worth buying some thing she is going to play with for five whole minutes and toss in the closet forever after. Anyway, not doing it. She's got kittens, those are real not toys! Kids need to be able to interact with things, not just sit and watch them.

p.s. I watched the video and totally agree, sham or not worth $100. Maybe if a person has an extra hundred lying around they want to throw away, that's fine or possibly for them being able to spend $100 is a status symbol and so then it's not so much about the child having the toy as being rich enough to afford the toy! So in that case, you're not really doing that for the child, so much as giving them an over priced gift as a way to say 'oh! look how rich i am!' That's just me! A parent should choose how they think is best, but it's just really overpriced!

Yes! These companies are crazy if they think this is an affordable toy. I have no clue how much it costs to manufacturer, but i know its not a ton of money. The other thing that comes to mind is what do we teach our children when we buy expensive things they don't need? Do we create a mind state of materialism? I don't want my kids to think that every new thing that comes out is something they need to get. I hate parents who buy $100 dollar pair of sneakers for a 2 year old! Don't they know that the kids will grow out of them in a short period of time? and if you don't have any other kids then you cant pass them down. I think a laptop and steam is probably the best investment for kids. They can do so many different things with steam. My kids love ABC Mouse which is perfect for the age.

omg! For real! My daughter always saw those ABCMouse commercials online and pointed it out to me. I was going to do that but it was just for the little kids, not her age group and so I was concerned it would not be challenging. But we used Starfall.com, possibly I had mentioned that before. I'm such a huge fan of these educational sites online. With my help, she easily learned to read using Starfall and these other free sites, on her own computer. The computer was the best investment that we ever made for her as she was able to learn a sustainable skill - that is computer use - which I truly believe is going to be an absolute necessity for any job of young people entering the work force in the next ten to fifteen years. So start them on a computer now! I know some will say they get the tablet for the child to use, which is fine for app use, but I don't think it's the same as they can just point and tap rather than click and type. And, typing is a good skill to have as you can practice your vocabulary. Mine manages her own Youtube channel now and is checking comments daily and typing response comments and learning hot to edit her own videos and I'm trying to get her into creating her own music mixes to use on the videos so she won't get flagged for copyright use by Youtube. I should really post about that on a different thread, how to find royalty free music to use on Youtube videos because it's such a huge deal! And, very hard for us to do. Anyway, yes to everything you said, it's a complete waste spending so much money not just on a flimsy stuffed toy or a pair of child shoes that will be useless in under half a year!

yea....defintely not and if my mother in law gets these for them, she is INSANE! i had no idea they were so expensive until i looked it up when the girls started asking me about them. i mean seriously, $100 or more for these things, come on! that is so crazy, i would never spend money on something like that. and i hate how these commercials for them and the toy reviews make these things so irresistible to kids and they go crazy for them! so annoying!

I would not buy these for my younger cousins. This toy is quite pricey and brings little value. I am not sure how these appeal to children but I can definitely get good Steam games for them to play and some books for the same amount of money.

Its not practical, but i will buy it if i have extra money to spare because this hatchimal is like real life tamagotchi back in the 90s .
you have to pet it fir it to hatch, that is a nice concept of a toy.
you also dont know what will hatch there unless you take care of it, thre is an element of surprise to it.

I've always thought that spending a lot of money on a toy, is not smart at all. First, you have to teach kids where money comes from, and be responsible on how to spend it, and then we have to face the fact that they will enjoy it for a while, after that they won't even remember the toy. I understand parents want to please their kids, make them happy, but at same time you are showing them they can have everything, no matter the cost, which is not the real world.

Oh wow! Too much plastic shell for no purpose whatsoever later. My son would just probably throw it like a ball and then forget about the toy inside because he was just curious about the egg. Too much money wasted. I am not saying that we shouldn't buy toys and save every penny, it's just, if you can afford, then so be it. But if like in where i live, $100 would feed me and my family abundantly for a more than one week, I wouldn't spend it on such a one time toy.

Personally, I would say that if the finance is there, then there is nothing to worry about with regards to such toys being expensive. What I consider in making the decision to either buy such toy or not would be if it would make my kids happy, and once the toy passes the happy making test, with the cash readily accessible and available, definitely I'm buying the toy for them.

As a kid growing up, I was denied so much probably because of lack of fund on my parents side but now that I have the means to make my own kids happy, I wouldn't be thinking twice about anything that would make them a happy child.

The cost alone just put me off in the sense that I don't think anyone in Nigeria will pay a 100 dollars for a toy for the kids. I mean what is the essence of buying those toys when there are other things that the money must have gone into. Toys should not be that expensive, in my opinion.

Sure, though the cost is over-priced I will if I have 100 dolls to spare. My kids will be so thrilled with it.I really used to like that thrilling and exciting looks on their faces.I don't to worry about how many minutes or hours they'll admire it.Children will always be children, they've very short span of interest for anything.

I'll go for a no. I would not let my kids buy it. There are many toys around there that are more awesome than this one. I will encourage them to buy other toys that will help them a lot. It is also costly so I don't recommend to have one.

That's really a cool toy! I would love to buy this and make this a present this coming Christmas! I'm sure that little kids would love to have this in their collection. Thanks for sharing this cool toy! Hatchimals egg toy is it practical? Would you buy it?

I really think the idea of this toy is cool, but the overall premise reminds me of the Furby craze back in the 90s. Once the initial "wow factor" wears off, it just gets cast aside to take up space in a toy box or collect dust on a shelf. Maybe if it was cheaper I would get one for my kids (if it was something either of them showed any interest in). Overall, it just seems like a short lived fad that will leave parents kicking themselves for buying into for such a high price.

You know I was raised on a farm and we had a lot of chickens and the first thing that I've learned from my
grandfather was you never peel an egg shell when a chicken is trying to
get out of it. My point is I don't mind spending a 100 bucks on my
children's toys only if they are educational. I bought an electronic drum kit for my elder son's birthday because it was his dream to play drums and it was about 700$ but totally worth it. You can find something
better. For example, my daughter is into Among Us game and I'm going
to buy her a fluffy stuffed toy of the game character which comes with
huge discount on https://nasmas.com/products/among-us-plush.

Oh, I've been looking for smth like this. My son likes video games and comics, but action figures are usually really expensive.

I have a negative attitude towards such toys. I prefer to give my children only safe toys. We try to choose games that positively influence our children's development and behavior. Modern trends do not always meet safety standards. Recently I have started to study the impact of plastic on the human body. So now it is pretty challenging to find plastic children's toys in our house. Like any parent, I try to study the issues of children's development. In the blog bopto.com.au, I learned why wooden toys are helpful, how to introduce them into the play process, how to choose the suitable toys depending on your child's preferences. Try to protect your children from harmful trends.
