If you love kids, from babies, toddler to teenagers. Then you can make money for Christmas by being an at home day carer. It's basically just baby sitting. But this time of year, a lot of parents will want to take a day off work, or even go on the weekend, shopping, without their kids, to buy presents for their kids.
You can take advantage of that and earn some quick cash for Christmas from it too. You would probably have to ask around, or advertise in local shop windows or even on Facebook and other social media sites that you're available to baby sit for the day.
Then all you would have to do is go and sit around their house and keep an eye on their kids for the day. Or even play host and have them come around yours for the day. You could arrange arts and crafts and do stuff like that with them, or just watch some movies or something.
And you can charge a pretty penny for it too. Since they are their kids and it's a time of year when everyone's time is very limited and precious to them. You can charge anywhere from $50 to $100 for one day of baby sitting. And the more kids they have, and the more a handful those kids are, and the longer you'll be babysitting. The more you can charge them for it.

when i was younger, about 12, my mom enrolled me into the local babysitting course through our hospital. the course basically showed you how to care for a child or infant and what to do in case of emergencies and also what you should be doing while babysitting and what you shouldn't be doing while babysitting. it was very helpful and actually increased my chances of getting babysitting work because i was knowledgeable in basic things that not all 12 year olds would know. i got a certificate and everything. Certified Babysitter! LOL although now, im sure people dont really look for those kind of things in their babysitters, the world has changed so much. people will just leave their kids with anyone.
i have thought about starting a daycare but i dont think im a good fit to be able to run a daycare. it is very hard and you have to make sure everything is done right and all codes and requirements are met. i have a friend whose mom runs a daycare center in her home and has for as long as i can remember, i always thought it was so cool and a great idea for making some money!
you dont necessarily have to have a daycare and be bothereds with all the legal and safety aspects in order to make some extra cash, like you said you can just babysit for fellow friends or co workers or random people. i have seen people post in those facebook groups that they are a well known babysitter and they're certified in CPR and other things and are just looking for some new work. when we first moved here, it was hard to find work and my mom referred me to a coworker of hers, who was looking for someone to look after her kids while she worked. i ended up helping her out for a little bit. it is hard being around and taking care of other peoples children because not all parents discipline the same or have the same kind of teachings as your own, that is where it can be difficult.
