I see him as half of the badness of Gordon Ramsay. Anthony Bourdain has good a taste though he may be tough-minded at times. But not as bad as Ramsay.

I agree. Whenever I watched him, I can see Gordon Ramsay in him a little bit. I do find his show interesting or maybe I'm just fascinated whenever I watched a cooking show. I love to watch any kinds of cooking show but I don't know how to cook. Hahaha

Well, i love some of his travel tips, especially eating authentic cuisine, because food is a big indicator of a location’s values and culture. and , if you really want to travel like Bourdain, you’ve got to head to where the real food is. Think hole-in-the-wall
restaurants, food carts, street-side shacks and even the little operations running out of people’s homes.
Much of the food Bourdain raves about is from humble establishments, like street vendors in Vietnam.

That's also the biggest thing that I've learned from him, too. For the best food when traveling, find whatever the locals are eating. And that often the local favorite is some awesome preparation of the cheapest cuts of meat.

I used to watch No Reservations, but I've never seen any of his other shows. I found his personality to be annoying sometimes, but he's also a pretty interesting guy.

I probably agree that his travel tips are the best. I've watched his show a couple times and it's awesome, like he definitely knows where to go and where the good foods are located. And also, I think street foods from different countries or cultures are the best you can ever tasted.

I wonder just how much of his "attitude" is a tough guy act that he puts on or how much of it is really him? Or, has he been acting this way in his public and celebrity persona for so long that he actually BELIEVES now that this persona is who he is? Also, I wonder if, once he had established his attitude, if the producers encourage or encourages him to continue because we, the audience, identify Bourdain with his bad boy image? Only he knows, lol.

I enjoy watching Anthony Bourdain. The particular thing I like about Anthony Bourdain and his show is: how food is connected with human psychology. Through this program, we not only know about different kinds of foods popular in the different regions but also how food plays important role in defining culture and tradition. I may not side with Anthony Bourdain's always, however, I admire his perspectives.

He seems like a well informed guy. At times he can be a bit sarcastic but who isn't? I like PARTS UNKNOWN as a show though. Really gives you a view into the world and all of its different tastes, cuisines and foods. Lots of stuff I hope I can try one day.

Judas2018,
I also have enjoyed Parts Unknown, A Cook's Tour, and a recent favorite show of his, for me, is The Layover. On this show, if you haven't seen it, he will pick a city where he is supposedly stuck for a while, on a layover, obviously, and then quickly explore its restaurant hot spots, street foods, and bars. In the quick narration on the show, he also gives honorable mention to interesting and delicious locations even though he does not have time to visit all of them.

I love his tv show because it is about travel and food. Anthony Bourdain travels to differents countries and cities around the world where the hosts show him the culture and local cuisine where he ate exotic dishes. He is also the author of the book Kitchen Confidential. It is a very good and interesting book. Nowadays, he works at a French style Restaurant called Brasserie Les Halles.

My husband rather loves Anthony Bourdain, so we do watch a lot of his shows. We both like seeing the different places he travels to and learning about other cultures that we may not have otherwise. I think food is a huge part of different cultures and as such gives the opportunity to get to know others. Where we differ in our opinion though is on Bourdain's personality. I think the guy is a bit pompous and full of himself, kind of a jerk sometimes. This is one of the reasons my husband likes him so much. At the end of the day, despite how differently we fell for Bourdain himself, we do both enjoy watching his different shows.

I have always looked up to Anthony Bourdain as an open-minded traveler. I love how he highlights one travel destination and tries all the foods. I am a certified foodie so I love how he tries all of them without hesitation and gives unfiltered opinions. Though he may have a downside he still is not as frank as Gordon Ramsay which is also one of my favorite Chef.

I love Anthony Bourdain. He is actually the one who inspired me to travel to some parts of Asia. His shows are not only about food but culture, politics and society as well. I agree that he may be sarcastic at times but it only shows how brainy he is. No wonder he got the job in CNN.

For me Anthony Bourdain is a food critic who travel the world to discover and experience cultures of the places he visited. I think his personality comes along as he is in fact a critic, a food critic. He should be strict in everything especially food that everybody loves.

He loves to explore different country and food as well. He is very keen to details and very appreciative to people too. He looks very humble and he is not afraid to explore more types of food.

He Just seems like a normal person, This guy travels the world for a living revealing the cities best for local cuisines. He seems like an easy going guy and fun to talk with during his interviews. Not sure but I think he's never going to give up the booze, he just knows his limitations now. Well, learn as we get older I guess

I think Anthony Bourdain is a really great TV personality when it comes to the culinary world and travel. When I watch TV personalities like him and Gordon Ramsay, I feel like I gain more knowledge in the field that they are in. I could easily relate since I graduated Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management. My chef instructors usually would recommend us to watch their shows when I was in college.

betty01,
I actually consider this show to be one of his most successful ventures in TV programming, and I believe, if I am not mistaken, that it was sponsored by CNN, which, I think, gave him a little more clout as a type of "journalist" or travel writer than the shows he was involved with or starring in before. His mixture of politics, social commentary, and international cuisine gave him a unique platform to explore and present international cultures to an American audience which might start watching the show because of his personality, or because of an interest and food, but along the way this audience ended up learning more about the world overall.

I never missed a part watching the Anthony Bourdain. Honestly, I enjoy that simply because of the way he connects food and how the mind of humans works. By watching his programs, I do not only discover the types of food in many regions, but I got to realize how these food have an impact on the lives of people in those regions. The way he sets out his programs with his honest views on certain things is top notch.

I do not fail to catch the latest of his program every time that I got a chance to do so!

Barida,
I am the same as you--if he is on a show, I will definitely watch it. He has this show called THE MIND OF A COOK, I think, and all he does is narrate it, and I started watching it just because of that. I am not sure if you have ever read any of his books or not, but they are hilarious and quite informative, and I would recommend those as well. You make an excellent point about how he tries to tie in the overall cultures of the people he meets with their foods and cuisine and the economies they are dealing with. He also, I think, tries to put a global perspective on each place he visits. Thanks for your response here!

Anthony Bourdain has some of the craziest and most amazing shows in the cooking world. I love what he does, but I am unsure as to whether or not I would actually do or should i say eat it myself. I like how he takes foods to another level and makes you wonder... Did that REALLY taste good?

Anthony Bourdain is a versatile person. My favorite show of him is No Reservations. He is one of those straight talker guys. I don't think he should be compared to Gordon Ramsay though, he and Ramsay are both good but cut from different sides of a gem. They are both good to watch on the television. When he visits other countries he delivers the basics on that country and somehow understands the pace according to how a commoner view their country and wanted to tell the world. He is good at that. He is a great show host. While he is one of my favorite hosts, he is not my first. Mike Rowe is.

I also really like No Reservations. I wonder often how "real" his TV persona is compared to his actual personality. Either way, I agree that he is a great host, and if he actually is doing all of the writing for his programs, then he is a pretty talented writer as well. I do believe that he has a genuine interest and concern for other cultures and for learning about other cultures different from his own.

I honestly am not too sure how to answer this, because at times I find myself a bit confused as to how I feel about him.

I think I liked him more when I was younger than I do now. I used to be a bit of a rebel in my late teens and early twenties, and I looked up to anyone else that had a similar rebellious attitude. Smoking, drinking, doing drugs, using crude language and just being genuinely "raw" in one's lifestyle was very appealing to me, so naturally I admired Bourdain.

Then as I went into my mid-20's I began to grow out of that culture. Because of that I started admiring him less and began to feel like he was kind of a douche, for lack of a better word. By no means do I hate him, and I still like to watch his shows to the point where I still watch old No Reservations reruns. But let's just say I wouldn't get "WWABD" (meaning what would Anthony Bourdain do) tattooed on myself the way my friend did recently.

DenisP,
I went through the same cycle with him myself. He has been a real unsavory person at times over the years. I think he has matured a great deal, though, if you look at his Parts Unknown series and the Layover and shows of that nature. That being said, he really rode that supposed "bad boy" wave into quite a successful career, whether he really was a bad boy in real life or not.

It's really difficult to judge these TV personalities because you only ever really know what they show to the camera and through their works. From what I can tell, he seems open minded and level headed so that is good enough for me. He does seem like one of the celebrities that isn't very fake, if at all, at least.

Anthony Bourdain is someone that I can say have an incredible job so far from what I have seen him do. I'm impressed with all his TV shows because they are very important and informative on any subject that he chooses to deal on at any particular point in time. Be it on food, living, society, he seems to have more than what I expected him to offer, so he is definitely good at his job in my opinion.
