Collecting coins, stamps and paintings

I am a collector of rare coins, stamps, and paintings, and when I am saying paintings, I do not collect valuable and old paintings created by Van Gogh or Caravaggio, Paul Gauguin. I collect paintings made from local painters. At the beginning, it was just a hobby, but now my hobby became a good business, now I am selling my coins, stamps or paintings.
It is not such a big business but my profit rolls around 500 euros a month.
Have you thought to change your hobby in a business?

That is such a rare and unique venture. The best thing about it is that it was a hobby turn business. Good luck all the way.

There's nothing around here to collect except for empty plastic containers????????????.

Turning a hobby into something profitable certainly is a great idea, but it's a shame that not all sorts of hobbies can be turned into something profitable because this would help many people around the world.

So, what do you do with empty plastic containers?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yes I agree with you because its not just those things that you think has value should be collected, sometimes those things that you used to throw in the garbage can also be a good source of income.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yes, but unfortunately, some people don't realize this simply because they have no information. The good side is that after getting some information on the subject, many people end up changing their mind and seeing things differently.

Maybe you will laugh, but here are people who collect these plastic bottles and sell them for money at some shop collectors, they pay very less but if people would throw them away they would get nothing for that plastic bottles.
Thank you for reading and appreciating my post!

I also sell plastic bottles. It would be better to turn them into money instead of just throwing them away. Even junk food wrappers can be sold now.

Well, if you have a little tallent on recycling , you can also sell them for better price. This is also a good way to save our mother earth. Collecting coins, stamps and paintings

It actually makes sense to collect your trash and make extra money from them. Universities and hospitals do this in my country. We at home also do it and despite not earning thousands from it, at least you can have extra bucks than nothing right?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

JoeMilford
Regardless of the profit possibly made from these plastic containers, it is a good idea to recycle them and keep them in use in the first place. These containers are not biodegradable, so if people would re-use them more, the market for them would go down, and fewer of them would be produced, thus helping the longterm environment of the quality of humans on this planet. We don't se;; ours, but we re-use them, and sometimes we donate them to Goodwill and get a tax cut at the end of the year for doing so.

Here in my country plastics can either be donated or sold. If you're going to sell it here, you can have around 0.016 euros per bottle Collecting coins, stamps and paintings Which is no good at all! Wallet is really fortunate to turn his hobby into a business. Keep it up! Collecting coins, stamps and paintings

I think there are some good prices for recycling of the plastic. But it depends on how some people do it. Not all the products can be recycled. Some of the products require you to have regular recycling class sorted.

That's good for you. I am also eyeing those paintings by people who are selling them on the streets and maybe someday have them hang in one of the collections. I would love to learn painting or drawing since this is really fun to acquire, as a skill. With regards to making it as a business, I would say that I don't prefer it to sell because it's a part of me maybe I would share it to everyone with love and without taking anything from them.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

We go to thriftstores a lot, and you would be amazed at the art you can find for very cheap at places like this. You can put together a pretty cool collection pretty fast and on a budget at places like this. Flea markets, and places like Goodwill, are also good for finding nice surprises in terms of art. I have found some great landscape paintings and some cool and quirky pieces too which must have been some art student's surrealism studies at some point.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

pandooh
That's great. Nowadays people tend to have arts in their mobile phone and not the authentic physical beauty. Though, I'm not really against it. It's just that you would even appreciate it more in non-virtual appearance.
I'm trying to be productive in my art finding. LOL. Maybe I'll try to hop in some places and look for it.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

JoeMilford
I love having art on my walls, and a lot of times, they are great conversation pieces, or they bring the room together, so to speak. A piece of art or a painting can add to the mood or accent any part of your home, depending upon how you place it or use it. I am not really a collector, and I do not own much, but I do like having a few cool pieces around me to help my eyes flow across the walls.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

pandooh
Definitely! I would love to have an art collection, paintings or just a frame with quotes in my dream home. It just speaks louder than the house. By the looks of it, you love going to museums and art galleries eh?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

JoeMilford
Yes, I do love frequenting museuwms--not so much galleries because I see things that I really want to buy, but I just don't have the wallet for it right now, so it gets frustrating a bit. However, I could spend hours and hours, days even, in a museum. Art is a passion of mine and has been since I was a kid. I love seeing how my fellow humans express the joys and tragedies of our lives and their lives through their artistic expression in a variety of mediums. Thanks for asking!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

pandooh
Yeah that's the dilemma when you just found a good art but do not have the money. The next time would be a 50/50 chance of seeing it again. I could also spend that amount of time, too, in analyzing an art. Imagine for just one art, you could spend minutes to appreciate it! By the way is your picture hand made or photoshopped?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

JoeMilford
Sorry for my misspelling in the last post--I hate when I do that. Anyway, it sounds like we both appreciate art, and it shows that you do not have to be rich to understand and appreciate such cultivated and beautiful things. When you are asking about my picture, do you mean my profile pic/avatar? A friend of mine took it, and I think she did put a filter on it. Or, are you referring to something else?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

pandooh
No worries. It's natural for us to make some mistakes. ANd yeah we are all capable of appreciating arts but only a few would take a look at it. Are you an artist by eyes or hands?I thought you sketched your avatar.LOL

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

JoeMilford
oh! I see. Well, I do draw and write a lot, and I have sold my drawings and worked for a while at a small anime company, but, no, I did not sketch my profile pic, and I am definitely not an artist with my hands, unless playing guitar helps. I just really appreciate art, and I love reading about the history of how writers and artists entertwined their lives.

I remember someone who does paintings on street, his video went viral while doing his painting. He is so talented because he only use his bare hand instead of brush to make paintings. What amazed me more is that he can finish his painting in just a couple of minutes. Then I thought, those kind of artist really deserves to be put on spotlight.

There are a lot of artists that are not yet discovered. There are those fortunate who were able to learn arts and became successful and there are people who are innately artistic but do not have enough sponsors to be able to produce and show their art. I would love to watch that man in the video. This may be an inspiration to the generation.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I wish I could share the video to you. But that was long time ago and I cant even remember the title. It is very true that many talented artist are not yet discovered, while some lacks the confidence to promote their talent. I just hope that these kind of people will get the attention of other famous artist and support their works.

Interesting hobby/business you have going on there. Glad it's working well for you. I really wish I could do the same. What better way to make a living than doing something you love and enjoy, right? Not only that, you also get to interact and share experiences with people who appreciate and enjoy the things you do. That is like one of the most pleasant feelings ever.

I might be able to do so someday as well but in the mean time, I still have a lot of improving to do. My hobby is drawing but I'm not quite there yet but I'll keep working on it. Who knows? I might Lso be able enjoy the pleasure of earning while doing the thing you enjoy.

I have never really bothered to turn any of my hobbies into a proper business. Well actually, I guess there was this one time. I'm not sure if it could really be considered as turning a hobby into a business. I love gaming. So I thought that I would buy membership codes for Xbox Live and PlayStation Network in bulk and then sell them off for profit. It did quite well but I gave up because it was a bit too much work back then.

I will recommend you to open your own business. I really like crafting and I used to make D.I.Y cards and decorative items for my friends and family. Then one day I decided to start a side business concentrating in the sales of D.I.Y items. At first it was difficult for me but gradually my business started to grow. I am now an online seller and I have been quite successful so far. I am currently developing some new products which I expect to sell soon.

That's nice. I have an addiction to food and eating rare or exotic types are my favorite. I already plan to make it as a business since it's nice and really popular in my place. People here wants to eat exotic foods since just eating the same everyday is really boring. I plan to have a small eatery where I will serve exotic foods as the main menu. When you turn your hobby as your business, you will really love it and it will success.

My great grand father was a collector of coins. When I was a child he always shows all his collected coins and tell a story about it. Since I was a kid back then I always believed all his stories about how he get the coins. He also do some magic tricks on some coins which is very amazing and we kind of enjoyed watching our great grand father doing those things. Even though those coins are old and cannot be used in current currency there are the most valuable coins my great grand father ever have. I wish I can also tell stories or do magic tricks to my grand child.

If you are really making that lot. Then I'll probably shift business. Good thing that you made quite a success on your hobby. I think it will be good for me too since I am also passionate about arts and craft. I love to see paintings made by children. They have vast imagination and could create simple yet beautiful things. It would be beautiful to collect their work of art as well as to make them feel appreciated because eventually it will help them shape their future.

The only thing that I sort of collect are various special mugs that I buy whenever I travel abroad. I love those cute, hand made ones that capture the culture of a country. Those are my favorites.

I have never collected stamps, paintings or coins. I still have some old coins back when we didn't have euro as our currency yet but I don't collect them. I don't think that collecting paintings is an easy business though, especially to start with. I imagine it takes some capital to buy at least some "rare" or special paintings? Either way, great job Collecting coins, stamps and paintings

Congratulations about this! It's very nice to make your hobby a small business. When you do something that you love and then you can make some money out of that, you can definitely call yourself lucky. Not many people have the chance to do this. My hobby was practicing English language and learn, one day I got the chance to make this into my job and now it is my main income. It's hard work, but I can say I'm glad that I got this opportunity.

I have a collection of dvd's and blu-rays, which has a quantity of 750 titles (movies , TV series and shows). I wish I had had a video rental a few years ago, but unfortunately, because of the advancement of technology, this dream had to remain being just a dream.

At first it was a little bit annoying to accept the idea, but... Life has to go on, doesn't it?

I agree with you. My father has a DVD rental business many years ago, I think in early 2000's, and it was really profitable and consistent, it is one of the main source of income of our family. But when the technology begin to evolve, that's the time our business lost the profit. For me, it's one of the rare disadvantage of advanced technology in business.

I collected stamps when I was a kid, but I have no idea what happened to them or where they went, and I do remember having a substantial collection! I collect music, LP's, DVD's, comics, and other things, but I would be hard pressed to part with them because I collected them for my own pleasure and through the idea of selling them later. It is cool that you can turn collecting into a lucrative profit. I just know that I would have a hard time parting with certain artifacts, art, and objects if I were a collector.

If you are passionate about something, it can make you money. When I was in teens, I used to write for my own enjoyment. I also used to write for my friends. My friends, who liked my writing, commissioned me to write love letters. They did not pay me money, however, they gave me a treat. One day, my cousin found me that I write love letters, he asked me to write for his friends, he paid me $2 for each letter. Over the years I developed my writing skills on other genres. I began writing application forms, CVs, reports, analysis etc. and made good money. When my first article appeared in the newspaper, I saw myself as a writer.
As a child, I collected coins and stamps. However, I lost them as we moved homes. I like to collect paintings, however, this is a costly hobby.

It wasn't really a hobby but when I was a kid I had a bunch of Jim Henson (Muppets creator) stuff, action figures, comics and dolls. Being that I held onto them and kept them in good condition... I have collected stamps and coins in 90s. And I managed to collect a lot of variation in that time. And so I have very old set of the stamps. These days its not easy to have those stamps. And people do collect them. But it seems like not a lot of value of some of the stamps. So I am working harder to retain the set for longer set of the time. You have to work on that and if possible it'd be reasonable to store some of the good stamps if they are older.

I have not much collected paintings though. i do painting myself. But not have collected anyone else's painting. So that's something one has to understand that part too as well.

Just today, I collected three rare and very antique coins. I believed that it is the first ever monetary system used here in my country. I'm trying to bring it to an expert tomorrow and find out if it really is the kind of thing that I think and probably ask how much can I get for this. I'm not expecting much, but since it is possible that my coin is a very rare one, I will need to do my best effort to get the right price of it. I think the idea of an auction will be better and my coin for the highest will be great.

That's nice business idea, turning something of less worth into marketable commodities, paintings are rare works of inspiration and it's very evident that no two artists can paint exactly the same thing, thereby making any painting a valuable item for those that value art works.

You did great changing your hobby into something that yields you a reasonable amount of money, I'm impressed by this. My hobby is watching football and playing as well. I mostly do it for fun until I decided to make something out from it.

I applied for a morning sports analyst in one local media (Radio) station and luckily for me I was given the job. So now I watch football for fun and as well use the Intel I acquired from it to do my new job which they pay me quite handsomely.

Actually, this is an inspirational story. Everyone who would want to venture for business should think that putting up a business with products or services you are not fond of would likely fail. The first step in setting up a business is to identify the things you want to do like in this story a 'hobby' or some products you want like chocolates, cakes and coffee. You start your idea with that and educate yourself more on that 'thing' afterwards. Everything will follow well if you have consistency in doing that business as long as you are doing what you like. Please continue on that.

Just here it form the news that our coins that are done in year 1997 up to 2000 are coins made with nickel. Someone tried to collect many of this coin since it's easy to find because it has a low value. Then, it says that tons of it where collected by him and he melted it to extract the nickel from the coins and it turns out to be a huge income. Well, I know for sure it's illegal since the coin still has a value although small and still a monetary system of our country. Having it loss in the money flow will greatly affect the economy. But still, I am trying to find some and verify if this is really true.

Never have been a collector, maybe a keeper of some stuff but not a proper one. Right now, I have a couple of coins from places I have visited, like Greece, Croatia, Turkey. Usually I keep the ones that have something that gets my attention, like one with a square in the middle, or one that has 2 colors, others like the quarters at Usa, that have the different states in the back. Also, paper bills like Disney dollars or Mexican bills, that have a very weird texture, like plastic paper. Or very small size bills of Asia. These are kind of my memories from those beautiful places.

And as for paintings of unknown artists you could play role in promoting them as they could fetch huge amounts after they are publicly known.

This is a great business and very unique. Only selected people are having fun and interest in collecting paintings and coins. My grandmother told me to collect old coins cause this may have a high value on the next years or generations of life because this will be treated as treasure when time came. Paintings too also are very good in business because more and more people nowadays are collecting a high valued and well painted artworks. It doesn't matter who created, whats important is the impact to the viewers and how it attracts, impress and captures their heart and attention and will convince them to buy .
