What do you like to eat on a Rainy Day?

Summer is done and it's now he start of the rainy season. When rain starts falling and cool winds starts blowing people in my country generally looks for hot congee and hot bowls of soupy noodles with an assortment of toppings.
Rice based congee is called, "Lugaw", Arroz Caldo", "Goto" while noodles in soup is called "Mami", "Ramen", "Lomi", "Batchoy".  Both dishes has a variety of toppings that ranges from vegetables, eggs, meats and innards, and can have different flavors from sweet, sour, spicy, salty or a merry mix of it.  But what people like about it is that it is hot and is good to eat when the climate is wet and cold.

It's summer where I live. Well they say it is but it's not really until until this month around the 21st. It does rain during the summer. I love ice cream on hot days. I dunno if it's raining. I guess we eat chicken soup on cold days.

Wouldn't it be funny if we kept eating cold food during rainy days? I still have ice cream whether it's hot or cold. The only question is if you can afford to buy it frequently. That's the hot and cold season for my wallet.

Hahahaha You alone there mate. Personally I do not think that I can ever eat anything that cold when it is cold outside. Even when I need to drink water at such times I always boil it or atleast pass some warmth.

Batchoy is good for me in a rainy day. I like it very much. It was during the 80's that its a hit in our place. Almost all the restaurant aree selling that. But now only a few was left.

I think its good. It has not become common. Its good that you miss that food from time to time. Over eating of that food is not good also. During the rainy season that is my favorite food.

Taking time to enjoy pap with some bean cakes is one thing that I enjoy during the summer. It is the type of meal that you can't resist especially when milk and enough tea is added to the pap as well. We take it every morning and it is great for many of us.

I like using coffee on my bread. It just adds a certain flavor to it. The taste is sweet and mildly bitter. I think we all have favorite foods to eat at certain times and occasions.

I agree with you. Having coffee on bread is good. Its good during rainy days.

I am from Philippines. Before when I still in the province, my mother always bring me to that specific food vendor with table whenever I accompanied her to market. She always take me there especially rainy days. What I have remember was she always order white puto (bikong puti ) in tagalog with hot chocolate or what we called tablia that's why when its rainy day, I always wanted to eat white puto with a sip of tablia during rainy days.

I love to eat rice cakes and other glutinous rice sweet snacks like "Suman" which is sweet glutinous rice wrapped in coconut leaves and boiled in coconut milk, partner this snack with some hot chocolate made from "Tablea" or Pure ground chocolate made into Tablets the size of a dollar coin and then mix with hot milk and some water and you've got a perfect early morning or late afternoon snack. My late grandmother used to prepare this when I was a little boy and it was so tasty.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Sometimes its good to live in a province because they prepare those kinds of delicious food that's different from the city. People living in the province are most probably use to prepare those kinds of food and that's what likely we missed when we live in the province before.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
That sounds tasty. I like eating pudding because it makes me happy. I've also noticed how pudding is made as a joke in popular media. I guess everyone likes to eat it as well.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I love to eat that too. White Puto is something to crave for for during rainy days. It tastes so satisfying with matching (sikwati) or hot chocolate.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

edencaga
Yes, I totally agree with you. It is something that we missed when we were in childhood as our grandparents used to prepare this kind of food especially rainy days.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
It looks delicious. I found it using Google. I wonder how sweet it is. Maybe it's mild since most people like rice food that way.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
It seems like everyone has a specific kind of hot chocolate. The names sounds really exotic. I wonder what they taste like.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

edencaga
I can't explain the taste but you have to put sugar on it to become tasty because its taste bitter like coffee. It will be more tasty and delicious if you put cream or milk. Its more likely taste as cocoa but its way more delicious for me.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
It's close to what I was thinking. I don't normally like bitter taste. But for pure cocoa, maybe I'll consider it. Especially, since it's great for chocolate drinks.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

edencaga
I guarantee its really delicious than cocoa. What country are you from? I don't know if its available in your country but its popular here in Philippines especially in provinces.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I remembering drinking hot chocolate. I like the taste but I kind of burn my tongue because it's too hot. So now I prefer cold beverages. It doesn't matter the weather. It's how I like it.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

edencaga
What I do first is taste it with spoon before I sip and drink it thorough. I already experienced burn my tongue but not thru drinking but eating some korean cakes that was still hot.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
That's funny. I know how unpleasant that can be. Good thing our tongue recovers quickly from minor burns. Also, I only recently discovered how delicious coffee tastes when you mix it with evaporated milk. It kind of tastes like Starbucks coffee.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

edencaga
My tongue doesn't recover quickly. It takes me 1 week before it heals completely. It was very uncomfortable especially when eating. Yes me too, there is one brand that I really like, like when you mix it with chocolate, cocoa or coffee it really taste good.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
That's sad. I guess yours was much hotter than mine. If mine had been boiling hot, I would have taken longer to heal. The sensation of a burned tongue is weird and unpleasant.

I like that we've both found brands we like. It's funny how Coffee Mate has so many flavors. I used to only see the regular flavor.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

edencaga
Yes, that's true. After that incident happened, I always mix my hot water with a little bit cold water as I don't want to happen it again. Yeah, same here. I always look for an original flavor or regular flavor. I don't know why but maybe its just that its way more delicious when you mix it with milk than of those instant flavored coffee, cocoa or something. It's more tastier.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
Yeah. Better to do it that way. So that we can avoid burning our mouths with hot drinks.

I think so too. My favorite flavor right now French Vanilla. It tastes and smells so good. Others seem to enjoy Coffee Mate's coconut flavor as well.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

edencaga
Yeah. I love vanilla flavor. Whenever we buy some shake or something hot to drink, It's either I choose chocolate or vanilla than any other flavor. I can't stand the taste of coconut. I knew that my mother when she was pregnant with me she always seek for coconut which is I think very opposite happened to me.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
That's funny. I wonder why others love coconut flavor. Maybe it's because of its sweet taste and scent.

Vanilla is like the first flavor to come to our minds when we think of desserts. Like vanilla ice cream. It's considered the basic flavor of sweet stuff.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

edencaga
Yeah! We're very much a like. It's always been a vanilla flavor since then. I think it's because it's kinda taste like milk but taste sweet and I love milk very much.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
I think so too. Well, vanilla is really the most basic flavor for sweets and desserts.

But just because it's the most common doesn't make it any less tasty.

There's even a saying that you can never beat the classics. Other flavors may come and go. But vanilla is here to stay.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
I wonder if it's bitter tasting. I heard that pure cocoa isn't as sweet as what we're used to. Though, I imagine it's a bit of an acquired taste.

This is one of my favorite traditional food in the Philippines, the rice cake or puto, I remember when there was a "pa dasal" or need to pray the dead, something like that. LOL, my grandmother used to cook this with sotanghon, and this is the good combination for me.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

edencaga
Yeah! It is somehow similar to our province but whenever we visit there in Holy week especially easter, elders prepare what they called puto and dragon (a taste like coffee with ginger something like that). I just missed the province of my grandmother.

My province is in bulacan, where there're a lot sweet foods and different kind of rice cake, or "kakanin" that's what they call the variety of sweet foods made of rice. Sad to say, I also don't have time to go back to the province because of work.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Where in Bulacan? I am currently living here in Marilao Bulacan because of my father and brother's job. Our province is in Cagayan de Oro but my grandmother's province is in Butuan. I have tasted a kakanin that is a green color here in Bulacan. I don't know what kind of rice cake it is but I like the taste of it and its very delicious.

It depends on the weather. When it is rainy and cool, I like soup..if it is a warm day, I don't really eat anything different than I eat any other day. For me, it really depends on the temperature outside what I will eat and enjoy.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
Soups such as our local Okro soup is really nice to take whenever it is rainy since it is going to help one feel warm as enough spice is used for the soup. So, I agree with you that soup is really nice when we talk of cold weather as well.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
I agree. Though, it's probably not for me. I feel uncomfortable drinking hot soup since it makes my throat dry. I prefer cold soup since it doesn't make me feel warm.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

RhealaineS
I have not tried cold soups yet. I wonder how does it taste. Here in the Philippines we love hot soups even if our country is a tropical country.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
I can see why. I've also noticed the abundance of instant meals there. Particularly, instant noodles. I guess lots of people enjoy eating them despite the relative heat. I wonder why.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
I don't really depend on the weather. I mostly eat anything whenever I like it. Same as you. Though, I like drinking cold beverages especially in cold weather.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ballyhara
Well, I live on a tropical country, so usually rainy days are not cool indeed. Based on that, the only issue with rainy days is to deal with staying indoors at your job, school, or home. But, you can see people like to eat sweet or salty snacks, specially if you have to share them with friends or colleagues. In case we have a cold day, you can see us having hot coffee, tea, or cocoa. And I would add some home made cookies or cake too.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

kgord
Rainy days can be a bit depressing so it is usually good to have something to eat that might lift our spirits. I sometimes like to bake something if it is cool enough to do so. It can make the day go past faster.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ballyhara
True, that's why I always have snacks at home. Sometimes I just cook my own snacks, and that's even healthier. My sister and I, enjoy eating popcorn and watch a movie while the rain keep us at home, and if the electricity goes down we just play Jenga or Uno cards. We also eat crackers with a home made dip, like cream cheese/onion or sweet and sour pepper dip.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
Sounds like you have a nice system for whatever may happen. I also don't like it whenever the electricity goes out. It's hard to find something to pass the time by.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ballyhara
Agree. Honestly, once you're used to Internet, TV, video games, you can feel lost and bored when the power goes out. But, we grew in the 80's, when board games where the best option while raining, so we always have those that come in handy. A quick cheese/onion/mayo dip, some crackers, and board games, can fix boring for a while.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
Me too. It's a struggle with people living in the modern age. Actually, a more effective means of passing time would be games like Dungeons and Dragons.

Stuff with role playing usually helps pass the time. Kids somehow find it easier since their imagination is still very active.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
So true. I think some people experience seasonal depression because of it. Something like that. But I've heard that some people sleep better during this time. So I guess sleeping helps a lot.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
This can be a lot of things for different people. It could be playing games. Some find comfort in reading. Others just like watching TV. But baking is definitely a great way to spend your time while raining.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

EfficientNinja
We also stay indoors when it is rainy and prefer to have the snacks delivered if possible. If there aren't any available fast food delivery, we go to the nearest convenience stores to buy the typical snack. Some chips and soda are what we usually buy and we have a movie marathon while eating.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ballyhara
Lucky you, at least you have a very efficient delivery system. We really have few delivery services, and they don't reach most of the city, just like the central zone. Convenience stores tend to be my salvation LOL, usually I grab some snacks, or maybe food that I need to cook homemade snacks. Besides movie marathon, we can also do some laundry meanwhile, and we keep our clothes clean while the rain keep us in the house.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
I noticed that most of us tend to spend time watching something. It can be movies or TV shows. I guess watching something is the best way to pass time by until the weather's fine again.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

aeon
Rainy season is the time for us to think about the best food to eat and enjoy the weather even inside the house, but the funny thing is, no one wants to cook or even to move, all we want is to stay in bed and wait the food to come.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
Oh, that! It's so funny, right? People just like having stuff handed to them. I guess they don't know the joy in making your own food. Especially, in baking. I'm sure it's a rewarding means of passing the time by.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

aeon
Yeah, we love to cook, and honestly that's our family business in province, we have an small canteen there, but during the rainy days, with that cold weather, it's different story. LOL. A lot of suggestions about the food to eat, but nobody wants to move. What do you like to eat on a Rainy Day?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
That's hilarious. It seems that cold weather brings out the laziness in everyone. They probably have to once their hunger becomes unbearable. It's fun to cook the food you want to eat.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
Sounds like a plan. I mostly have whatever's left in the refrigerator. I know it's not as good as buying stuff outside. But it's often raining hard here. So we usually have a hard time going out.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
Oh, that's not nice. I'd probably have a hard time enjoying rainy weather if it's still hot. That's the thing warm climates. It takes a storm to maybe even drop the normal temperature.

It's the start of summer here.I have been waiting months for summer time and a long break from school.Usually when it's a rainy day,I like to order Pizza.Pizza makes me feel happy,so when its a bad day or its a rainy and depressed day I like to reward my self with my favorite food.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I like pizza too. My favorite flavor is cheese. The ones that have melted and creamy cheese. I just like the taste of cheddar and different types of cheese.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

You're right, eating pizza will somehow change your mood and forget everything. But I do love eating pizza with my friends or relatives, it's make me feel like I'm in the competition and who eats a lot of pizza will win. What do you like to eat on a Rainy Day?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

That doesn't sound like a good idea. You might end up eating too much. And we all know too much of anything isn't good. Even for pizza. Hahaha!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Well, I'm not used to eat pizza, maybe just once a month, or if I just want to treat my self for doing a good job, and the commercial of Shakey's about pizza burger is gonna be my next goal. What do you like to eat on a Rainy Day?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
Oh, well that's fine. I like eating a lot of stuff I rarely consume. Like ice cream and yogurt. I don't always eat them. But when I get the chance, I savor each moment. I just laughed.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

aeon
Sometimes, that's how we going to enjoy the food. Let us just avoid it and fight the temptation until we can, when your mouth start to watering, it's time to attack. LOL.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
I like how you phrased that. That was really funny! We do resort to attacking food whenever we're too hungry to resist. Better avoid getting hungry, then.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

That's why I really love to go to buffet restaurant with my friends specially during the payday, you can eat all you can, with very affordable price. after the long wait of salary, it's time to celebrate. LOL.

That's why I always have biscuit in my locker, I feel bad if I'm hungry, it's really hard to work with that situation.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
I like buffets too. You can eat as much as you want without paying extra. But the problem is that we sometimes overeat. And it can be difficult to move after eating so much. Hahaha!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

aeon
Yeah, but I think once a month is not really bad. LOL. You have to make your money worth and eat all you can, that's what the people expected on buffet. And I think this much more cheaper if you want to celebrate your birthday, no more take home food for your friends. What do you like to eat on a Rainy Day?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
That's why it's done more with occasions. Not just any other day. It reminds me of eating with friends because everyone chips in so all can afford special group meals.

Oh favorite food day. That's a good one, I should use that tip too. Pizza it's a good one, and fresh cooked one is delicious. I used to have frozen ones, which are a good option when you can't order, but what to do when the power goes out too? We can't use microwave or kitchen, and with the rain pouring outside, I don't see any chance of bbq. Still a pizza lover anyway.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I've actually had frozen ones. I can't say that they're even close to the freshly made pizza. Far from it. I guess we have to make do with what we have at times.

Please I would like to know if the season of the year matters in one having to eat or not? How is this even something that needs much debate? We all eat during both summer and winter season in order to still remain alive and be healthy. What might be considered is the kind of food one eats in such different seasons of the year.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I think for me it's more the fact that I crave lighter foods in hot weather (salads, fruit) and more hearty, comforting foods when it's cold or rainy out.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
Well that's good choice of food selection that you have there but personally, what matter most to me is enjoying my meal and getting fed well. So therefore, any kind of meal that would do both tricks for me, is definitely going to be among my food favorites in any season whatsoever. Although, I wouldn't take any ice cream during raining season or winter season.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
Me too. But I'd take ice cream whatever the weather. It's like my favorite eat. It's too hard to resist. Although, I stay away from it if my throat feels uncomfortable.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I think the season is not really matter if you want to eat something, is just more on how you enjoy your food during specific season, is like drinking coffee during summer and while with heavy rain, I much more enjoy the coffee during the heavy rain.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
It's not really about that. I think it's more about our preferences for the kind of food we eat during rainy days. It's funny that most of us like different things. Though, there are similarities for some people

We already have our raining season pouring down heavily on us. It rained heavily last night and this morning everywhere is messed up. This is actually the reason why I don't like raining season, it makes me feel crawling back in bed and sleep off again.

"...it doesn't matter if it is hot or cold, sunny or rainy..."

You know this is one thing that I never quite understood. A lot of people feel like they are obligated to eat certain foods at certain times, depending on the season or weather in general. I remember wanting to eat ice cream in the wintertime, and my parents would say, "Ice cream? When it's below freezing outside?! Why would you want ice cream?" Um, why not? Just because it's cold doesn't mean you can't eat ice cream. It's like saying you can't drink hot coffee/tea during the summer.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

amelia88
I actually enjoy ice cream all the more in the winter months! It means it doesn't melt!! I can eat it and not have to rush like I do in the middle of summer!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
I love eating cold stuff during winter. Practically for the same reasons you've mentioned. No one likes rushing an ice cream. And even if you ate it fast, it would still be melting due to the hot weather. So it's really nice to eat ice cream during winter time.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
That's an easy way to describe. It's probably the case for a lot of us. We don't really choose that much based on weather conditions. We're more focused on enjoying what we eat.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Me too. I don't eat based on the weather or temperature. I just like what I find interesting. Whether it be warm cookies or cold ice cream. My friends tend to drink hot chocolate during rainy weather.

I think I eat less during the rainy season because it's colder and I get too lazy to go out (when I have nothing to do) so I just stay in bed, and because I'm using less energy, I also don't get hungry as much. Also, I love eating ice cream and I don't really feel like it during the rainy season.

“...I get too lazy to go out (when I have nothing to do) so I just stay in bed...”

Now that is a statement that I can relate to, all too well. I work from home, and I’m not a very social person, so I have basically no incentive to go outside unless it’s to buy food. Today it was raining, and while my appetite could’ve gone for some easy take-out today, my brain basically convinced myself “Eh, we’re not that hungry.” It’s been raining on and off every week for the past two months, so because I never know if I’ll want to go out for food, I’ve actually been eating healthier home cooking more often.

If it's cold and rainy outside I usually like soup - especially ramen! The noodles make it hearty and filling so it's the perfect cold weather dish. If it's warmer though and rainy outside, I tend to eat pretty normal stuff. We have a rainy season here in the first month of summer, and I tend to just eat normal summer-time foods - salads, fruit, yogurt, things like that!

This sounds like me. If the rainy day is a cold day, I like to warm my body with hot foods and drinks. Soup is my first choice in a cold and rainy day. I also like hot coffee. IF the rainy day has a normal temperature, I like to relax with a cold coffee, Pizza or anything that I can grab.

Soup's are my pick on rainy day's. Soup's are a very good in warming up during cold days. It is also delicious and nutritious at the same time so you will never go wrong with soups. I love soups that are meat based like chicken and beef. I usually beef and chicken stock on rainy days just to make sure i have the flavor every time i prepare soup.

Talking about this stuff makes me feel hungry and I am starving right now. (hahaha) I wan't to eat batchoy and soup # 5 during rainy seasons. And during my lunch at work I also wan't to eat bulalo in some mini restaurant nearby. Yes it is very good to eat this kinds of menu during rainy days because it helps our body to fight the cold temperature and to heat up our body also.

I personally prefer to eat something like say fried. Like fried fries, or chicken. Anything that gets me into spicy mood. So that's what I personally prefer. I do like to eat things that I make in this season. but not all the time I find the time. And rainy season has it's settings as well.

It's been raining quite a bit in my area, so I suppose this topic has been on my mind lately. I've found that on rainy days, I generally gravitate towards soups. Sometimes ramen soup, sometimes udon soup, sometimes egg drop or tomato soup. Just soups in general seem to be on my menu for those damp, rainy days.

Also, for some reason I feel more attracted to cakes and pies when it rains. Rainy weather feels cozy to me, so I find myself wanting to eat cozy, comfort food on those days.

I don't normally like to eat meat, I'm more of a fish eating guy but when it comes to one particular meat, then I would have an exception and that kind of meat is pork dumplings. I can eat it anywhere, anytime and any day without getting tired of it.

I am a huge fan of soup during rainy days. Ramen soup, Maggie Mee Chicken Soup or Hot Laksa with noodles would be perfect to warm up the tummy. Besides that, I would go for warm cup of tea and biscuits or homemade cookies.

Sounds fancy. I don't know what it is about cookies and biscuits. But when you have them with tea, some of us can't help but feel fancy. It's like this special combination for royalty. Hahaha!

Yes, cookies and biscuits are teatime breaks for us Chinese, just alike the American have scones or muffins with tea or lemonades.

I love ramen, I love to eat this during night shift even not raining as long as the weather is cold, ramen is the best food to eat. I always have this in my apartment and a lot of easy to cook noodles. Aside from it's really delicious, it's also help me to save a lot, because they are cheaper. LOL.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I like ramen too. Though, I don't like the instant version. The authentic cooked ramen tastes so different from the ones we get in the convenience store. The flavor and aroma smell so good.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yeah of course. I just have these instant noodles with different flavors just for emergency purposes. lol. Beside, Instant noodles is not really good in our health, I have a co worker who had UTI problem because of too much eating instant noodles. I just eat real ramen maybe just every after payday.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

That's nice. I was worried that you were eating instant noodles frequently. They do more harm than good.

And what's funny is that eating authentic cooked ramen is good for your health. The difference is so great when it comes to instant and real food.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yeah, that's the problem of this era right now, everything needs to do fast or instant. They make our life easier, well that's good, but the problem is, even our life right now is looks like in an instant or fast, we will die young by keep doing that.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I find that funny. It makes me want to laugh. We love instant food so our life also becomes that. How cruel yet accurate. This is why meals made with labor and love are worthwhile.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

LOL, yeah, that's the reality right now. We are not aware about the food right now, all we want is instant and delicious and we forgot the other benefits like the nutrients, and it's really funny that even if you want to have healthy and slim body, there're some diet pills and energy supplements in the market, all you have to do is to drink it. What do you like to eat on a Rainy Day?

I Just had dinner and it's Chicken Adobo with some Rice and Hot Instant Ramen Noodles, it was delicious, well I cooked it the way I was taught by my grandmother, the traditional way of cooking Adobo.

Here's my recipe, it's called Adobong Tagalog.

1 Chicken cut into 8-10 pieces.
2 Heads of garlic, crushed.
2 Pcs Bay Leaf or local Laurel.
1 teaspoon ground black pepper.
2 teaspoons salt.
2 chillies chopped.
1/2 Cup White Vinegar or any vinegar would do.
1/3 Cup Soy Sauce
1 Cup Oil
1 Cup Water

I love to make this dish because you just mix everything in a saucepan in medium low heat and let it simmer until water evaporates. It has lots of oil because it's best eaten after a day or two. It is a common dish made in olden days when there were no refrigerators yet and dishes were made to last several days.

It's super delicious with plain or fried rice or bread.

The foods I always crave during the Rainy season are Chicken, Beef, and Pork soup (Tinola) and some Noodle Dishes like Ramen and that Noodle Dish from Chowking which I forgot the name but it's really yummy. I actually love anything sour and hot during the rainy season and any soup is good except for Fish soup because I'm not fond of eating Fish soup. However, soups are never complete without rice so I always accompany my soup cravings with rice.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

aeon
Yeah, you're right, Chicken tinola is one of the best food for me during rainy season. This chicken soup with papaya is one my grandmother's best recipe, and I always requested it during heavy rain.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

jaybee19
Exactly. Chicken tinola tastes different on the rainy season maybe because of the old weather. As much as i want to eat tinola, I really hate papaya and so I don't want any of it on my chicken tinola. Btw, the chicken I like the most for tinola is the native chicken. Although it's a little bit thinner than the chickens from the market, it tastes better because it's organic.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

aeon
I really like the papaya in tinola but just only half cooked when you bite it, it's a little crunchy. My grandmother in our province used to do that, she always use the native chicken, the taste is really different to the normal chicken, even the soup.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

jaybee19
I see. Papaya is truly crunchy when it's half cooked and most people like to eat it that way. And yes, native chicken tastes different and the soup it makes is very rich and tasty especially that elders in the province loves to add herbs and other natural ingredients to the soup in order to eliminate the smell, to make the soup richer, and to also make it somewhat like a protection for colds during the rainy season.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

aeon
Did you ever try the pinikpikan in baguio? They will brutally kill the native chicken, and there's no other ingredients aside from water, they will just boil the chicken and that's it, but the taste is like tinola, even without any spices.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

jaybee19
Really? I haven't heard about it ho because I live in Central Visayas and I'm yet to go to Baguio hopefully soon. Do they remove the entrails of the chicken before they put it on boiling water or is it the same with how we traditionally cook tinola?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

aeon
Yeah, of course, they will also cut it into small pieces or enough size, but the way they cooked it is really brutal, some of my friends call it, killing me softly. Using the stick, they will beat the live chicken all over the body until it's almost die or looks paralyzed.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
Oh, that sounds tasty. I like having soup meals as well. I agree about them tasting great with rice. It's perfect for any weather. Though, if it's hot outside, I'd prefer to eat it after it's cooled down a bit.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Me too. I also love to eat soups even on a hot day although just like you, I also make sure to cool it down first before I eat it. I actually love to eat it with hot rice but if the weather's hot, I love to eat soups with left over rice or cold rice.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I think the keyword for any sort of hot food is "warm." No one really likes it hot as it can easily burn our tongue. A pleasant feeling is present when having warm food. But there are soups that are eaten cold. Hahaha!

I really like something hot of course, like soup and hot pies. I dread the cold and also enjoy cooking and preparing food. It really makes me wanna lay down and sleep all day when the rain is pourin' outside. I'm thinking of a spicy chicken soup to make the evening hotter. Soups are the ones to soothe you when it's cold and raining outside and you're just feeling lazy the whole day because of the coldness. Stew is another option as well and is easy to prepare.

I live in a tropical country where the only season is either rainy or sunny. I love it when rainy season comes. I love how the raindrops look on cars' glass windows and I love the sound of the rain falling from the clouds. I am a pluviophile, I think. I tend to eat beef, lamb, chicken and fish. I keep away from the carbs because they are so tempting. When its cold you feel like having bread and butter. Just looking at it adds the pounds on! Though it is not cool enough to feel comfortable, we Filipinos love eating hot and a bit spicy with the touch of sourness and sweetness. A bit weird isn't it? We have different soups that give a flavorful taste from, sour, sweet, salty and even bitter. Some of them are Bulalo, Papaitan, Sinigang, Nilaga.
