Chicken Macaroni Salad with chicken strips, ham bits, cheese, raisins, pineapples, picked relish, grated carrots lying on a bed of fresh lettuce is also one of my favorite Christmas Staples. I don't know with other countries but in the Philippines most families would make Macaroni Salad and or Fruit Salad for Christmas Eve and New Years Eve Celebrations.

I’d never heard of that here! Maybe it’s a unique Christmas dish specifically served in the Philippines. It’s cool learning about what foods are popular at Christmas time around the globe!

Well, it's macaroni pasta or we have here a smaller variant of macaroni pasta which we call salad macaroni pasta. You mix it with mayonnaise, salt, pepper, chopped onions, grated carrots, pickle relish, seedless raisins, and your choice of chopped meats like chicken, tuna, salami or ham. Then add to the mixture some pineapple tidbits or pineapple chunks and grated or cubed cheese. It's really delicious more so if eaten chilled.

I also love macaroni salad. I have not tried making chicken macaroni salad before, only the macaroni salad with kaong. It somehow gives special taste to the salad especially when its cold. We usually do this when christmas, new year and birthdays.

Hat is Macaroni Fruit Salad? How is it made? It sounds yummy and delicious. Maybe it is nutritious too

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Kakashi2020
There's a variant of Macaroni Salad which is called Macaroni fruit salad. It starts off with macaroni cooked aldente, seasoned with salt, pepper. Mix in chopped cooked chicken breasts, chopped ham, chopped carrots, celery and onions. Mix with a can of Fruit Cocktail, condensed milk and all purpose cream. It's sweeter than the regular macaroni salad which contains mayonnaise instead of condensed milk and cream.

I like fruit salads too. When I make it during the holidays, I would use a big fan of Fruit Cocktail and would add fresh chopped apples and bananas as well as tapioca balls we call "sago", sometimes it's called "pearls". There's also a variant of fruit salad which uses a lot of shredded young coconut meat, this variant is called "Buko Salad".

I'm one if those weird people who often does not have a favorite meal until I'm actually eating it in the moment. I guess it's because food doesn't always taste the exact same way even when made by the same cook, using the same recipe. Also, there's the fact that mood has a way of affecting one's appetite. I always look forward to the meat during Christmas though.

My favorite is chicken fried and soup of some type. I like soups mostly because winter can be harsh during that time. And fried chicken because it kind of gets my stomach full. So on that note I prefer to have the good non veg food if possible. I try to avoid veg food in such case. I avoid fish during the holidays or say some season such as that.

In my country people always celebrate Christmas with a chicken dish. it's either a Stuffed Chicken which we call Chicken Relleno, or a Grilled Whole Chicken called Lechon Manok, or a Deep fried Whole Chicken, or a Turbo Chicken, which is one cooked in a Turbo Broiler. But since kids like KFC so much families just often buy a KFC Christmas Chicken Bucket.

Yes some people celebrate with chicken, some with turkey and some with other meat. I think it depends on the people. Some are vegetarian. So they prefer that too. I prefer the chicken. Though considering KFC is closed on Christmas. I don't think I can have access to that.

My favorite Christmas food is my grandmother's leche (milk) flan. My grandmother is a great cook, she enjoys cooking for everyone and her recipes are always tweaked to perfection. The way she makes it is absolutely perfect! Not to sweet and not bland, it's just right. The texture is smooth and packed, unlike other flans I've tried which has lots of holes in them. As my grandmother said this is due to mixing, and the technique for a smooth flan is to mix it in a certain way. I tried making it years ago and sadly I failed! Maybe I should give it a try again, though I need to watch her make some this Christmas What is your favorite Christmas Food?)

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Kakashi2020
Leche Flan is a quintessential Filipino Christmas Dessert. It's decadent and full of flavor. It's quite easy to make but more and more people are just buying cooked ones already. But i still make mine from scratch. The ready made ones lack flavor and bite.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

knnon
The ready made ones are sad leche flans. That's the only way to describe them, sad. Some also have this certain after taste. Home-made food is always better in my opinion. Besides it's one of the things that make Christmas more intimate, it's cooking for people you love!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Kakashi2020
I do agee, quality wise the store bought Leche Flans are failures. The best tasting ones are the ones made at home. When making Leche Flan I always use native eggs or free range, it gives a more creamy texture than using regular farm eggs. Also, I add some grated lemon zest which store bought ones doesn't have.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I also love leche plan, that is a very delicious dessert for the Christmas season. Especially the jelly plan, the leche plan with jelly. I watched some Youtube videos on how to make a leche plan and I think the steps are easy but I am not good at a measurement that is why I prefer to buy. I like leche plan that has a lot of caramel.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

My mother tried to make a jelly plan before and it was a success! I still prefer the steamed leche flan, but a jelly flan wouldn't hurt if you're craving for a flan that's easy to make. Oh I see we're quite opposites when it comes to caramel, I don't like a lot of caramel on mine. You can have all the caramel on my leche flan, deal? What is your favorite Christmas Food?)

The Rice Cake cooked over coals on round shaped banana leaves, topped with salted red egg slices, cheese, margarine, grated coconut and sugar is locally called Bibingka. It's the goto food of church goers who attend midnight mass. You can see food stalls cooking it with patrons waiting for their order near churches. The purple colored yam dessert is called Puto Bumbong which is cooked on hollowed bamboo tubes over hot coals, it's topped with margarine, sugar and grated coconut and is always eaten at night or early morning, after midnight mass.

Christmas in the Philippines is never complete without Ham. The traditional Christmas Ham here has 2 variants, the Spanish Jamon, which is a leg of ham, cured, salted and can be bought as a whole leg or by portions or by the kilo. This costs about $40-$80 per kilo (2.2 lbs) and the other kind of ham is called Chinese Ham which is a lot more salty but is leaner and smaller type of leg than the Spanish Jamon, costing about $17.5 -$30 per kilo. There are also modern hams which are boneless and shaped as balls JJamon de Bola), American Hams, which are usually square shaped, and Filipino Fiesta Hams which all costs between $10-$15 per kilo. These affordable and cheaper kinds of hams are widely sold and eaten here during Christmas season. My favorite is the Chinese Ham, it has a salty, sweet satisfying flavor that's very good for sandwiches. Unlike in other countries where Hams are eaten as a main course. Here Hams are made into sandwiches or eaten with rice and salad. It's also used to flavor stews and other dishes. Hams here always comes with a sweet sauce which compliments it's salty taste. Hams are called the Star of the Niche Buena Feast (Christmas Eve Dinner).

During the long Christmas Season here, you would always see different fried or sauteed noodles as well as the Filipinos favorite all-time pasta Spaghetti. Kids and adults here loves spaghetti and unlike in other countries in which they cook spaghetti with just a little sauce, here the more sauce the better. Also our spaghetti sauce is always tomato based and premixed or ready to eat. And it always taste sweet or tangy sweet.

We also like to put sliced hotdogs in our sauce along with ground pork or beef. But it's not spaghetti without hotdogs in it. I guess it's our substitute for meatballs.

Let me be different. For years my family was vegetarian. Making the nut roast was a highlight of my Christmas baking and Christmas dinner, even if nobody is vegetarian any more, still feels incomplete without it. I also find a sense of loss when no bread sauce, pigs in blankets, chestnut and other stuffing and roast potatoes are missing.

Maintaining vegetarianism is very difficult around the holiday season.

Foods - the much awaited of all! For me My favourite are actually variety I say. There is Ham, Macaroni Salad, Lecheplan, Estopado and yes the Embotido. For me only veteran parents only know the exact secret on how to cook these foods. Because it never change the taste. Its still the same taste every year thats why we always ask for it all the time them to cook and prepare it.

My answer would probably have to be a toss up between fish stew and fried calamari. I know that those aren’t two very common Christmas foods, but hear me out.

I don’t know if this is a tradition common to other cultures, but where I’m from, we only eat seafood on Christmas Eve. Fish, squid, shrimp—anything from the sea. Because of this, every Christmas Eve my family makes a delicious fish stew made from carp, as well as fried carp/hake and deep-fried calamari.

Deep fried calamari, drizzled with lemon and dipped in marinara sauce is one of my all-time favorite foods, and I only eat it a couple of times a year, Christmas Eve being one of those few times.

I also cook our traditional family dish Arroz Valenciana or in English, Rice of Valencia. It's a type of paella with a lot seafoods in it like clams, squid, crabs and shrimps. My Grandpa, who grew up in Valencia, Spain taught me how to cook it.

I also like to eat some pasta during Christmas because it is very convenient and delicious, it is one of the favorite of my kids that is why I am trying my best to always have them in the table during Christmas. It is easy to prepare and very popular since it is usually served whenever there are some important occasions.

My favorite pasta is Fettuccine Alfredo, sometimes it's called Fettuccine in white sauce. I make it with butter and parmesan cheese. Toppings include bacon and ham bits. It's fairly easy to make and it taste really great.

Spaghetti for the win! Of course, the one that my mom used to make. The sweet-style one with hotdogs and ground pork topped with plenty of cheese and served with bread on the side. Yum!

During the cold season of Christmas it's always good to have a soup dish on the table. And one of my favorite soups is Beef Bone Marrow Soup called Bulalo, it's so satisfying, specially when the temperature is really cold that sometimes i would eat it for lunch and dinner.

My mother's 'Embotido' is the bomb! And I'm not just saying it because she's my mom, but it's perfect. Like people outside of our family sometimes ask her to cook it for them because it's just that delicious.

My favorite Christmas food is "Bibingka." It is a rice cake. I think the rice cake of Goldilocks is the best.

During Christmas in My Country we don't have one specific food that we have during Christmas. We all just have our favorite foods because Christmas is considered a celebration of Jesus. My favorite food at Christmas is pork and rice. Sometimes at home we make it into Biriyani by adding spices like black paper, cinnamon, cardamon e.t.c. I also have a lot of soda which I do not have during the year because I try to eat healthy. I also have cake and Ice cream.

My Favorite Christmas's food is probably Lechon Baboy and some desserts like macaroni or fruit salad, Lechon Baboy is so tasty man, that food is amazing everyone should try and taste it and for sure you'll get addicted and without a doubt you'll get fat but I mean it's worth it man, it's so delicious, I guarantee you that, but also the desserts like fruit salad just really completes it.

I think that if I have the money I like to have a lechon or roasted pig in our table during Christmas day because I want that my family would be happy and enjoy the day since it is only once in a year. I think it is a good way of saying thank you to god for all the blessing that he had given to us and makes our life more comfortable compare when it was before.

I cannot choose What is your favorite Christmas Food? But I will pick two of my favorites - Lasagna and Broken glass. We cook world-class lasagna. Very tasty, delicious and creamy. I can say it's the best lasagna you can ever taste in your whole life. The recipe was given to us by our grandmother. It's a secret recipe actually. Broken glass is some kind of dessert. It's made up of coconut, jelly, nestle cream and condensed milk. It's mouth-watering I tell you. What is your favorite Christmas Food?
