What are things you do only in December?

It's a week before December and it's Christmas Season once again.  I was thinking earlier about the things that I do only in December.

Number 1 on my list is to watch a Filipino Movie.  I really don't watch Filipino films but every December we have a Manila Film Festival where the best filipino movies are shown and it's the only time I get to watch good Filipino movies.  This year it would run from December 25, Christmas Day up until January 7, 2019.

December happens to be a unique month. The weather spells a festive season.

It is only in December when we do heavy shopping. We overspend and end up in debt.

True true. You find that people are normally so broke that even basic payments and bills may become difficult to take care of. Always be wise in spending and remember there is a whole new year about to begin.

Not all people can afford to buy for Christmas celebration especially here in our country. Lots of goods and other products are have increased its price and the salary is still the same. It's not shocking as to why others can not spend too much for Christmas since everyone's priority is to buy necessary goods.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
That can be a good thing in the sense that people are discouraged from overspending. They're much more aware when it comes to their budget. Though, it's still unfortunate the prices have gone up for everyday necessities.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Wenkx03
Exactly. Although I think its just usual to spend in christmas. Still be wise at spending.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

luv2xacosta
Yes, correct. That's why you have to identify what are the necessary things that you need the most during Christmas. It is already a tradition to us to prepare something for Christmas to share it with our loves and to our family. Maybe this Christmas, I would be practical and prioritized food the most not just on that day for Christmas but for the succeeding days as well.

It is good to operate with a place. And a budget as well to know what one had to buy and prevent being too luxurious while setting oneself up for a hard start to the year.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
Yes, it's the sad truth. Most people feel like it's the last the time they get to be merry. I don't know when this started. But it's become a yearly thing for everyone to spend like there's no tomorrow.

Come new year, they're anxious with regards to money.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Youngshark
It's called living in the moment while at the same time forgetting that there will be numerous moments in the future which also have to be lived.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Bravosi
Wow haha! Will you get offended if I'll say that I slightly giggled at the broke part?
Jokes aside though, I can understand you. Sometimes as an adults we want to feel like kids. When we could spend money without knowing that tomorrow you'll need it for sometimes. Immersive feeling. Now I have to manage my budget and for obvious reasons.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Youngshark
Pooh yeeah as a kid all that you knew and valued was having what you needed at that time and instance without the thought of tomorrow and it's implications.

One of the things that I only do in December is to sing Christmas carole in the neighborhood to earn money and give them as giveaways to the less fortunate young people in our community.

Over here you know that December arrived, because you can listen everywhere a traditional music. There is a region in my country that is the cradle for Gaita, but is not like traditional Scottish bagpipe music, this one is created with traditional instruments, like Cuatro (which is like an Ukulele), Maracas, some kind of percussion instrument called Furruco, and you can add some extra instruments to make it sound different. So, no matter what could happen here, if it's December is time for Gaita. Period.

I can also watch movies from the films of Metro Manila Film Festival during Christmas. It is because I am also from the Philippines. I am looking forward to see the film entries every year.

It only during the Christmas period that I remember my favorite Christmas carols and I played them all the time. It always nostalgic for me.i have a different feeling through out the period.Maybe because it comes just once a year.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

That's nice. It sounds like something people do even outside the holidays. Though, certain events such as film festivals probably only happen during December. I also enjoy going out with family and friends to watch movies.

I think that I do have a lot of things that needs to be done during December since mostly I am preparing for the food that we will be serving in this coming Christmas. I am slowly buying those Christmas groceries so that I can complete them before Christmas day comes.

You must surely be very busy. You need to have saved much money to use during this Christmas season. Do you often buy the groceries in advance or only do it in December?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

We will be very busy this coming December. We have to prepare on house decoration, buy stuffs early to avoid a lot shoppers during the peak of holidays, and prepare for activities to be done. I believe December is one if not the most busy month of all. People were able to do things they are not able to do, because of their busy schedule, during these days.

It is only in December that I make and decorate a Christmas tree. There are lights that we keep only for that tree. When it is brought and decorated is when we know Christmas is here with us. Gifts too do rounds on this tree. There is a gift or two for everyone.

We invite friends and relatives to share our Christmas. We sing Christmas carols and recite verses about the birth of Jesus. We also light a bonfire and dance round it.

Watch Christmas specials! I’ve been collecting Christmas movies and television specials for years now, and every year from the beginning of December until New Year’s Day, I try to watch one Christmas movie or T.V special every single day. It really helps me get into the festive spirit and makes the entire month of December feel much more special than the rest of the year.

Besides that, I also make a lot of festive drinks and food like hot spiced wine and gingerbread cookies. Christmas isn’t just a day for me, it’s an entire season!

I just watched the Princess Switch with Vanessa Hudgens on Netflix - it’s a new release Christmas movie this year and it’s so cheesy! Almost in the “so bad it’s good” category...I loved every minute!!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Oh my gosh! I recently just watched that. It's really perfect for holidays. It's like your old Hollywood cheesy films, but who can't say no to it? I also glad that Vanessa Hudgens is playing the lead "roles" because I've been her fan since I was a kid.

It is November and we are all looking for December with nostalgia. It is because of its speciality. December is the month with a special touch. There are people who drink themselves silly in this month.

Things that I basically do only during Decembers are exchange gifts and joining parlor games in our office. For the spirit of Christmas Season. These practices were only done during December and not on other months of the year. It is nice to have some fun sometimes and be silly like a kid. After all, Christmas are for kids and kids at heart like me.

Parlor games are indeed fun during Christmas, especially if it's snowy outside. Gives you a nice cozy feeling and warms your soul and heart. Myself I remember doing that back when we were kids. Nowadays at work we sit all sit down with coffee and discuss the upcoming year while summing up the previous one.

Its the only time of year I can hear mass at Midnight. We have a practice here in the Philippines to attend Simbang Gabi translated as Mass in the Night. It's a devotional mass that starts on December 16th and ends on December 24th, a total of 9 nights. It is widely believed that your wish would be granted on Christmas Day if you attend and hear mass for 9 nights.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

amelia88
Wow, I’ve never heard of that tradition here but it would certainly take some dedication! I can understand why they say your wish would be granted if you attended mass 9 days in a row!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I also do that. But the best part would be the puto bungbong vendors outside the chruch. Dont get me wrong I came to praise but still eating putobungbong and bibingka is one of filipinos christmas tradition not would not be forgotten.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Really? attending mass for 9 nights in a row? We do that here when someone dies, but I never heard about doing it on Christmas. Are those like different masses from the regular ones? I mean, do you have like traditions that you do during those? Looks like really interesting and devotional masses, and I think is a very nice tradition, especially if you do it with your family.

Well December being the last month of the year is always special. The Christmas celebrations in the month of December make it all the more special. There is an air of excitement and celebrations all around you in this month. I always look forward to the Christmas food and especially Christmas cakes and cookies which I love to eat every year.I also tend to do alot of shopping during the month of december for myself, for my friends and family.

During December, we have a local street decorations contest. It is held every year and each district line their streets with beautiful decor and Christmas lights. This is a tradition that we have been doing for many years now.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

amelia88
That sounds like so much fun! A lot of houses locally put up lights for Christmas but I don’t think there’s any competition or contest that takes place. I imagine people probably get pretty competitive with it!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

They do! Especially in our place, you could find Huge Parols in the four main streets. Before it was our elders who makes these big stars. But now it has been a proven good program for our youth.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Hey we have something like that too. But we don't have a street contest but a Nativity contest. So, every family in the street or community make their own Nativity recreation, some put special effects like running water, real fire, sounds, and then we have to choose which one is the best one between them. It's amazing how many beautiful Nativities you can see, and how creative families can get.

The month of December or more specifically few months before the end of a year (i.e. November and December) are the happiest and joyful months. Those are the months family members gather around to discuss about holiday destinations, how to decorate our Christmas trees, what food to order during Christmas eve, quality time spent with children as those months are the school holidays and many outings with family members. Therefore, those are the joyful months to us.

December is all about family for me. Spending time with them and giving them gifts is part of my schedule too. One thing that excites the most of the people in December is of course the Christmas day wherein family gather altogether.

Things I only do in December:
  1. wear warmer clothes everyday
  2. take a walk outside at night while enjoying all the lights from the neighbor's houses
  3. go out at any time of the day (for that matter) without any hassle because it's not too hot
  4. drink hot chocolate and actually enjoy it
  5. having a chilled (literally) and relaxed weekend with my family because when it's hot everyone gets restless
  6. play Christmas songs without it being too weird!
  7. buy gifts without feeling guilty that I'm spoiling the kiddos too much

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Oh, I love checking out the Christmas lights in our local area too. Some houses in our neighborhood really go all out with their festive spirit. I would hate to see their electricity bills though!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

knnon
I cringe just thinking about their electric bill but the happiness they've shared to others is something that money can't buy. We have a neighbor here as well who go all out with their lights, and there is such a thing as too much lighting, you might need to wear sunglasses to avoid the piercing light blinding your eyes! But if it makes them happy and it lights up the street then it's cool!

I think for me december brings DIY and few other things which I prefer to do my own. Like say cooking. I also get in touch with new people. And also make contact with family and friends. And keep in touch that way. You can see that definitely helps me out on understanding how things are much better in the due process. I can tell you that december is often busy for me.

Sadly, I believe my December will be as much as many other months. We have recently purchased a house, and we don't have any extra time to do something unordinary and fun. Moreover, we got even more extra tasks and choirs. Like cleaning the garden. Previously, I used to have the habit of eating in front of a fire during December, rather than on a table.

This is my number priority when it comes to things that I love to do during Christmas holidays.

I agree I kind of ignored this point. But rest is very important. And people have to be pretty serious about the rest. And they can get more energy if they have enough rest. Christmas before was really full of fun and a very enjoying days for me because I am able to earn some few penny since we go house to house to sing some Christmas songs and they are giving us some money from December 16 until the 24th of the month which is really cool and interesting activities.

Used to be that as kids, Christmas was one of the most anticipated seasons of the year. It was customary that we'll wear new clothes each year, eat all the food our stomachs could take, and visit all the good neighbours among a long list of fun activities. What I usually do when it is december is to plan the christmas celebrations from different invitations of friends, colleagues and family. This also the only time that I shop for myself, buy new things, new clothes and gifts for the upcoming Christmas parties that I would like to attend. I also prepare some new years resolution that would improve myself for the upcoming new year.
