How long does fresh bread last?

Whenever I purchase bread from the bakery, it only lasts two to three days in the pantry before becoming moldy. I am not sure why the bread does not last longer. It wouldn't be a problem, if I had a large family. However, it just spoils before I have a chance to eat all the fresh bread. I would just like for the bread to last longer.

I think that it spoils because there are no preservatives in it. Try freezing half the loaf.

I agree that freezing the bread or preserving it makes it last longer than you expected. And also, I've red that you can store it in the fridge but it's totally not recommended at all and I don't actually know why.

I agree with angie. then you can toast it once you have frozen it for sandwiches and it will taste good.

Thanks for that tip. My family loves fresh bakery bread so there are rarely any left overs. If I buy more than one loaf, I'll be sure to try out this idea.

I agree that it does not last too long. I will often share a loaf with a friend or neighbor.

What a kind thing to do! How long does fresh bread last?

I never have too much bread in the house as everyone eats all the bread very quickly. So I am always having to shop for more.

Since I hate going shopping, I buy a certain amount of bread and put it on the frige, when I need it even a week later, I let it half an hour or so, or put it on the oven, the bread look and taste as good as the day I have bought it.

I hate to eat old bread, so I just buy it one at a time, I have decided to be driving down to the bakery daily to have fresh bread daily, I don't mind. For me, bread that is more than 24 hours is already stale. So I don't eat bread that has stayed for more than 24 hours.

We stay with bread for 3 days and make sure to finish it. Sometimes we check the expiry date and so we purchase the bread which has few days before expiry date reaches. I don't know the method for storing bread because they are not made to last longer.

Bakery bread never lasts very long. That is why grandmothers have so many recipes calling for day-old bread. So, at the end of day two, I suggest making a pineapple bread pudding.

Whenever I have extra bread I make puddings out of it before it becomes stale or I put it in foil and put it in the freezer. Freezing bread is a good way to prolong it's lifespan, all you have to do is thaw it and put it in the oven or microwave with some water in a cup and it would be moist again.

Yeah I agree with the freezer idea it's a good way to keep your bread fresh for a longer time. I like fresh bread too, actually I can't eat it anymore when it becomes moldy. Even if I try the microwave thing, as it's cooling off it becomes hard like a rock. I'm lucky because I live with my family, there's four of us, and we buy fresh bread almost everyday so I rarely have to worry about the bread being moldy.
