Could toasted bread be the cause for so many cancers?

Not many people realize this but your morning slices of toast could actually give you cancer. The FSA (Food Standards Agency) have warned for a long time now that your morning slices of toast could be one of the main causes for certain types of cancers. Because when bread is toasted, it's essentially burned, and that burning creates carcinogens on the toast which contains a cancer causing chemical called acrylamide which is a cancer causing toxin that's also found on roasted potatoes too and other vegetables.

Acrylamide is a carcinogen that's made from a reaction between amino acids and the sugars in bread & potatoes when subjected to temps above 120C (248F).

A Professor Guy Poppy from the FSA says that roasted spuds should only be roasted to a light golden colour and and toast should be toasted to the lightest colour acceptable in their risk assessment that indicates at the levels of acrylamide we take in from the food we eat could and that it could be the cause and leading risk of cancer in people today (Perhaps since the age of the electric toaster?) The same research study goes on to say that nobody was even aware of such dangers of eating burnt toast or burnt roast potatoes and other vegetables and things.

And as anyone will tell you, there's nothing like well roasted roast spuds on your Sunday dinner!!

And some people like their toast well done and slightly burned and have done for years!

But could it be, that many cancers in people are caused by the food they've been eating all their life?

Could toast and roast spuds be killing us without even knowing it?

Yes I'm sure that toasted bread could be the cause of many cancers. I'm sure potatoes too....

However I think that most likely everything we eat these days is probably causing cancer and doing all sorts of damage to our bodies anyway. Think of all the pesticides and chemicals that is sprayed onto all the crops! And all the hormones that have been given to all the animals we eat.

How about all the chemicals in the water and the air pollution we breath in...

Nothing is pure anymore, not even food that is considered organic. I think that all of this combined plays a big role too.

Study says that roast spuds is dangerous because it contains a chemical call acrylamide. The Food Standards Agency has warned that eating overcooked potatoes or burnt toast could increase the risk of cancer. They are urging people to reduce their intake of overcooked foods through a public health campaign, dubbed “Go for Gold” – essentially advising people to turn off the heat once your toast, potatoes or other starchy foods are lightly browned.

In my opinion, i think eating to much is dangerous, you should eat moderate and eat a healthy food to prevent cancer.

This is the first I read that very toasted bread could cause cancer. I know that it is not good to eat food that is over-cooked or almost burned because the food loses all it's proteins. I'm a bread lover but I never eat toasted bread and if this is true, people should stop doing this too.

I never knew that Toasted bread can cause cancer. I love toasting bread with butter and sugar in it. I also love toasted mamon. Because of this post, I am now hesitant to eat toasted bread anymore. Why did I see this post? Still, thanks for posting this very informative post.

Informative post. I personally am not a big toast person. I eat it once in awhile. My parents love toast though. I do enjoy garlic bread though and wonder if garlic bread as it is toasted most of the time or even sub sandwich bread when toasted falls into the parameters of this scientific study also? That means that every time you have a toasted sub sandwich you might be exposing yourself to a slight cancer causing toxin. Lots of people eat toasted subs, BLT's too.
