How long can you stay online?

It's a a common thing today in our society, being online is very much done by anyone who is internet oriented. Work places, homes, schools, market places, church, etc are all filled with different set of online for one purpose or another.

Most times, there are lots people who are simply just addicts to being online. They are just online to catch fun although some do so for the purpose of making online money working on forums and blogs. I happen to have a friend who spends virtually more than 20 hours online on daily basis. I do ask him sometimes if he doesn't get tired or bored from frequently being online and I have never gotten any reasonable reply from him.

We are have our different individual reasons for being online but my question is how long can you stay online without being worn out in the 24 hours of a day. I can manage at least 13 hours give or take. What about you?

I understand because i once a gamer but that is too much friend but it depends on you. I am only concern in your health friend. CSGO is very popular and addicting game that is why i understand you lol. Technology nowadays and its stuffs is so addicting that you can't even control yourself. We must take care of our health first because there comes a time that you will realize and regret something you have done in your life.

I can sit here proud and say that I am spending less and less time online and more time in the real world. The internet has been a huge crutch and a prison for me at the same time. ANd the bottom line is I would much rather talk to my wife then use the internet. So I don't spend lots of time on the internet these days.

Same to you because as for me as long as I have an internet I can stay online whenever I want and because I love to stream movies and funny cliff videos so that I dont bother even if the time I am spending online is long lasting.

I can stay online whenever I want to. Its a personal decision. Now that I have discovered earning money online, I would like to stay online as my powers will allow me to. I believe that the more time I stay online I will be able to earn more.

I already have heard a lot of ways to earn extra money online. Then I have my first breakthrough, I no longer wants to stop. It might be that if i millions already it will stop me. But as of now, no one can stop me to stay online in order to earn extra money.

Before I’ve read this, I thought that I’m addicted to the internet. But after reading a few comments here, I realized that 12 hours per day online is nothing, compared with 24 hours online. When do you sleep, guys? At least I have a good excuse now. The company I work for decided to work only from home. That’s why I spent at least 6-8 hours per day online Thanks to the job specialty we are able to do this. We are now considering paying for the virtual office, instead of the real one. After I’ve read about the virtual office on https://ipostal1.com/virtual-address.php, I think it’s even way more appropriate for us.

We are also switching to the online mode of working! And this is after I decided to cut down my internet time. But it is for our safety, taking into account that everything might shut down again soon. Probably, having a virtual office is not such a bad idea.

I understand people who are in love with such games as CS:GO. They have good graphics, interesting gameplay, and the player can have a lot of fun. I personally play CS:GO with my friends every night from 11pm to 2am. Can't say that I'm the best killer there, but my friends say I can be a good member of the professional cyber team, lol. I also like getting different gun skins at https://skinsmonkey.com/ because I can't play without having good skin in my hands. But at the same time, I don't understand people who spend all their life playing games.

Now as a freelancer, I am in control of my work schedule so I stay online anytime or depending on the project I must accomplish within a day. I can also stay or rest myself without having to go online for some quality time with friends and family. More or less these past few weeks, I stayed online for about 4 to 5 hours in the morning to check emails and do some online jobs.

I work from home and I don't really have that much of a social life so I'm pretty much online most of the time. Except for when I am sleeping, I am rarely disconnected from the internet. In other words, I've become some sort of a total reclusive wifi hermit who has more presence online than in real life. I do go out occassionally but only when I am out of supplies and have to restock. I have been living this way for about two years now. I have expecteced some slight changes in my personality and temperament but strangely, I'm still pretty much the same guy I was. My people skills are still there and I also act normally in society or at least in groceries and the stores where I get my supplies from.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I tend to do the same as you are doing now. I like the term wifi hermit, haha! I always open my wifi connection for notifications and emails so technically I am connected all day. I go idle online when I must do other chores and things in the house.

Me too. I rarely go outside unless I have to buy some groceries. It's been months since I started working online. Now I am getting used to this kind of lifestyle. Some of my friends, they find it boring, but I am okay with this kind of work than spend most of my time partying ouside. I have done enough with those things.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Me too! I have left all the partying and the night outs years ago. It was hard for me to just stay at home like all the time at first but I got used to it. I can use social media to socialize anyway. My priority right now is to earn money and take care of my family. Nothing else. Maybe going out with friends once in a while would be a good way to relax.

I can stay for roughly 12 hours online but not all the way straight. I am spending that time for online jobs, checking emails, and window shopping online in lazada and shopee. I don't want to waste my time surfing the net without nothing to gain. I always try to be productive.

I am somewhat dependent on being online. My workmates and I usually communicate online. If that counts I suppose I am online more than 13 hours a day. If you mean for entertainment, fun or gaming experience, my average time spent on the internet would me 2-3 hours per day.

I am in the same boat with you here, and I am worried about how much I am sitting around these days. I have not gained any weight yet, and I feel like I am in good shape, but I am still concerned. That being said, I also work a great deal more, exponentially more, than I use my online time for social media, gaming, shopping, fun, or entertainment, and there are many days that I am so tired of looking at the screen that I can't do the fun things by the time my workday is done!

Sounds to me your plate is always full for the job. Well, don't forget to relax your body every once in a while. I know it's easy to say but, you know, it's essential. It's good that you always take time to notice your overall health especially when you're busy. Not so many people these days bother to assess their health especially when they don't feel anything aching in their bodies. Good for you that you're always on the alert for that!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

AmieBotella,
I appreciate your positive comments here. I think that we can all get pretty sedate with our online activities, and if your view of the world is the computer screen, primarily, or the cellphone screen, primarily, then really are not living in the world of total sensual experience and engrossed interaction with your physical environment. I think that this is a very bad thing, if this is true for some of us, so we need to counter-act that with being health-conscious as you mention as well here. Thanks for your post.

I could stay for about 12 to 15 hours. If I'm in the office, I am online 8 hours and when I get back home from work I'm starting to work online from 7 pm up to 1 am. This is not healthy tho, but I need to work hard to pay my debts.

As for me, I can stay online for like 6-7 hours continuously at night and about 2-3 hours momentary at daytime. Since my child is only 2, she needs a lot of attention in the daytime and at night I could leave her with my parents or my sister. When I didn't have a child yet, I could go for 13 to 16 hours a day on being online but of course with breaks in between. I do not easily get bored since there are lots of things I could do online such as watching movies, downloading new songs, reading stuff or just surfing the net. I also have lots of debts so now I go online for as long as I can. It's really different if you have a child to raise and you don't have a babysitter than when you don't. Our expenses increased but I just can work for a few hours during the day so I end up earning less but you know what? I am learning how to manage my time and I think it's been going better and better.

Last memorable super long online hours for me was 12-15 hours, it all happened after I received my license as an engineer. I went full sloth mode and started playing/surfing when I woke up at 6 am in the morning till late evening about 10 pm. I stopped because I was told that I have been playing since this morning (without me noticing of course). My only breaks during that time are for me to go to the toilet and grab some food. I really felt miserable after that, mostly because I had nothing accomplished during the day and all I did was play, but still I was happy. :-P

Now at most I can only go 8 hours, because of work and most of the times don't have the time to go online when at home. God I missed the times!

It depends on the day and my schedule. I spend roughly 10 hours online on weekdays and around 8 hours on the weekends. I also tend to spend more time online on the weekends when I have an IT project. Most of my gadgets are online almost 24/7 but I spend 8-10 hours a day online.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I can stay for say 8 hours a day at the most. And after that I have to take break and go back to the real life activities. And the thing about the online spending time is that it's going to be lot harder some of the time. The reason being some jobs online take more time and some jobs are more into the staying online the safe way part. You can be sure that it takes some time to manage it though.

I am working on forums, graphics and the code for say 10 hours. Apart from the day job it takes time for establishing this type of the work. But I guess for each one of us staying online requires effort. So in such case it is not something people can change there as well.

I know what you mean--breaks from this online world are so completely necessary for one's health, well-being, and sanity. I love the sense of community I find online, and I really enjoy learning so much from this seemingly endless source of knowledge, conversation, and new facts; however, the real world needs to be embraced first and foremost, and it is easy to forget that, at times, when we get so engrossed in the virtual world.

Yes. That' true. Most of the time we being freelancing online takes toll on health. And I have faced issues with it. And have paid the price with weight gain and eyes sore. And I am guessing that I have to think about my health from here onwards. That's the way the things around can be managed. Most likely it'd not be a good idea to stay online late night. Because that adds up to the health issues a lot. I guess we have to consider as well.

I can stay online for like 8 hours a day. However, I believe that everyone needs breaks and that's what I actually do. I take a break. The internet has definitely been beneficial to me. I love my life as a freelancer.

I'ts because most of people now find out that social media websites are more entertaining than the educational sites.

i guess that my online time is different every day. From day to day. I was up at the crack of dawn and worked about five hours, then I had lunch with friends, then came home and wrote for myself, and now I am back again. I could be here for ten hours or ten minutes. Who knows???? Anyway, I guess that it does differ with me because I do have a life, but, if I were to be a successful freelancer, I'd have to be on her twenty four hours a day and seven days a week!

I stay online for an average of 6 or more hours. But I have wi-fi available for 24 hours, so most of my devices will be having internet access the whole time they are on. Most of my work is done online, thus the reason I will be spending more time online. Social media will be the one that will take most of those hours.

By spending most of the time it earns me a living, so I appreciate being online most of the hours of my day.

Being online makes you connect to different people in this society. You can communicate with different people that are miles far from you. You can also share the things you have accomplished or achieved in your life which some people you allow can see those things or you can look at the achievements of some people. I am not quite a very sociable man online but I stayed online for about 7-8 hours where I communicate with my friends, co-workers, and my love ones. Using social media like facebook, instagram, twitter and others actually helps me in a lot of way like in my job and research work so, it is very convenient just being online. Being online can also use to earn and advertise products in your businesses and it is actually kind of helpful because there are millions of people who can see it. So the fact that a person like me spend 7-8 hours in front of a computer and using internet to connect with people is not that bad but is kind of fun at the same time interesting and you can do different things online.

I'm sure many introverts tend to spend more time online compared to extroverts. The internet happens to have benefited the introverts more than the extroverts because introverts are now exposed to new and exciting things that were not around before.

I'm not trying to say that being an introvert is better than being an extrovert, it is just my observation.

Since I'm always at home and currently employed and looking for a job online, I can stay for less than twelve hours facing my computer the entire time and surf the net. There's even a time that stayed up like twenty hours, and the result is I got sick after I wake up for a week, and wasn't able to be online. So I supposed the maximum time that I can stay up online is approximately twelve hours.

I teach online classes and I work from home, so I am online pretty much all day. If you take my classes and then add that time to the freelancing and blogging stuff I am doing online, then it is easy for me to spend 10 to 12 hours sometimes online a day. Plus, since I do work from home, every day is somewhat different, and so I am allowed to keep a pretty random and diverse schedule. Of course, being online all the time like this is definitely not healthy; however, it is what I am having to do right now to stay employed and to try to get ahead.

I can stay online 8 - 12 hours a day, sometimes even more, if there are some work to be done. But to avoid stress, I have a routine also, once a week I will be offline, mostly sunday for a whole day, to refresh myself and to give time also for my family.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

This is considered normal nowadays because we can do a lot of things with the use of internet like staying in touch with your loved ones, playing games, learning online, earning online, etc. I am working 5 days a week and I can go online 4 hours each day. On my rest day, I can go from 8 to 10 hours, but I usually rest my eyes after an hour.

We all know staying online is fun but we should also consider that excessive staring at a computer/mobile screens can cause computer vision syndrome. These are some of the symptoms:

  • Blurred vision
  • Double vision
  • Dry, red eyes
  • Eye irritation
  • Headaches
  • Neck or back pain
To avoid these from happening, we should discipline ourselves and take care of our body.

I don't get online that much when I am busy with my schedules. But I try to be online as much as possible if I have vacant time. If I add all the hours during the day which I use to be online, I'd say 3 - 5 hours per day. On weekends though I might have longer hours of Internet time.

In this first semester, I originally have 15 units only meaning I will have a light schedule of class and activities but neglecting the subjects who do not attend to class and based from hour of study, I will have a total of only 7.5 units, and it's pretty awesome like I only have classes for one and a half hour per day, and I can do whatever I like. So basically, I am online for at least 12 hours a day because I only have a very short list of "things to do". Whenever I am online, I'm loosing my consciousness of the time and just browse and browse, surf and surf, play and play, and watch and watch and it's already early morning. But even if I sleep late, I always make sure that I get at least 8 hours of sleep because I believe in a healthy living. For example, I go to sleep at 3:00 am, then, I will alarm for not earlier that 11:00 am.

At the best of my ability not to be, being online is a necessity for me. I am currently away from my family and online world is one of the spectra that could connect us. Some fun stuff I found online also helps me recuperate with my loneliness. If I were to put up a figure, that would be 6 hours a day: 1 hour on email, 1 hour on FB, IG & Viber; 1 h our on Twitter; 3 hours on YouTube.

I can stay online, for 24 hours or more. Hard to believe, but that's the truth. Think about it friends , we now do everything online. You can count on one hand, which jobs today don't involve going online. First thing in the morning, I meditate using a video on YouTube. I get my morning inspiration from YouTube videos from the likes of Tony Robbins, the late Wayne Dyer and Les Brown. My workout also comes from YouTube. I use a Twitter list to catch up on local and global news. At work I also use the internet for my research. On my lunch break I will browse Facebook and Pinterest . When I get home, I will chat to my friends on Facebook and Snapchat. I may also stream a movie or read a book, I have downloaded from Amazon. So i would say , on most days I am online, nearly all day.

I stay online for an average of 12 hours a day - 8 hours in the office and 4 hours at home. I am a father of 4 kids and my wife cannot go to work because no one is watching over our 10 month-old baby. I work at home to get extra income aside from working in the office regularly so that I can fit my budget for the whole month. It's quite stressful but I think this wouldn't last long until we find someone who we can trust for our Baby.

Since I am a freelancer I am quite used to working online. It is my main income so it isn't like I have a choice where I can say, "Okay, now I won't be going online for a week." That isn't possible plus I wouldn't want to do it anyway. How long I usually stay online depends on the amount of my work. Sometimes it's a few hours, sometimes it's half a day. I very rarely calculate or count how many hours I've been online. I focus on getting the tasks done no matter how long it takes.

I can't say that I ever feel worn out by being online - it is a big part of my life and I enjoy it.

It depends on what kind of day I have and on my mood really. I could be quite unpredictable sometimes. I could stay online the whole day sometimes, and there would also be occasions when I don't want ever go online. I don't get easily bored when I'm online because I visit quite a lot of sites doing just whatever comes in mind really. I could either do some freelancing jobs, or only for passing time. Most of the time when I'm on my laptop, I can't help but do some online jobs though just to earn a few bucks.

I spend at least 80% of my waking hours online mostly because most of my work is done online and is my source of income. When I'm not working, I'm usually watching videos on Netflix or Youtube so that also requires being online. With so much available on the internet these days, it's hard to stay offline. Unless you're going out or reading a book, I can't think of other activities that don't require an internet connection. Maybe I've become too reliant?

I'm on my gap year at the moment and I decided that I would actually try to create my own project/business instead of travelling. I will actually be travelling but I decided to do it nearer to the end of my gap year so that I can put all of my concentration and focus on this project. Because of that, I actually spend quite a lot of time on the internet every day. I would say, I probably spend almost all of the hours that I am awake on the internet (if I count gaming and the time on my phone as well of course). I wouldn't say its a huge problem especially when you consider how many different activities I do online.

I come from a developing society and I live in a countryside. In a countryside, in developing country, internet connection is not very reliable. Sometimes I am disconnected from the internet for days, and I still survive. I rely on the internet to make my living, and when I cannot use the internet, I will not earn any money. Since I work online, I will have to be connected through out my working schedule. Therefore, I am at least 8 hours online every day. Sometimes, when I have more assignments, I work for 10-12 hours and through out the time, I will remain online.

I guess we are in a completely similar situation but luckily I am not from the countryside. I live very near the city and I'm blessed with a very stable connection. I use the internet for my main income 100% though so I can only imagine how hard it must be for you dealing with bad connections and so on. I really admire your passion to keep working though! Do you at least take regular breaks? I can't imagine doing 10-12 hours online shift and not have any breaks.

Unreliable internet connection is giving me a hard time working as an internet marketer and online writer. I work in a slow internet connection. I often have this thought that I should move to the city where the internet is stable and fast. However, I don't think I can afford the cost of living in a city.

I can't do more than 2 hours without taking a break to go do something else. I can do 13 hours maybe with 15 to 25 minute breaks each hour. I always leave my computer on anyways when I'm doing stuff like eating lunch or dinner, doing laundry, watching a movie, house cleaning, doing dishes, etc. I even leave it on when I'm out going to the store or going to pick up my dry cleaning. I just let it hibernate. But straight hours like sitting at my PC without a break? If I'm working I can go as long as I need to but I still take breaks to grab something to drink or a small snack. On a non work day (which is rare), like maybe 2 hours straight at the most. This is a complicated question because I'm sure people who're online a lot still get up for a minute to grab a soda or something. So does that break the chain or what?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

When you are in a daytime job, do you take a break every two hours? Maybe not, Similar is with online work. I work online and I don't take a break every two hours. When I am working 10 hours, I do take one or two breaks, normally 10-20 minutes, for refreshments. Since I work on a computer, my eyes will strain when I work long hours, Therefore, every 3-4 hours, I go to washrooms and clean eyes with cold water.

If I'm at work I can easily turn my chair around to avert my eyes from the computer screen when I need to. I don't need to be looking at the screen when I'm eating or drinking iced tea. We also have the usual water cooler at my work so I can always go there for a break. We also have a tv room as well - complete with every gaming console known to man.

I always go online for almost 6 hours a day but it depends. If we have classes, I can only go online after the class up to 12 o'clock in the midnight. But if the class is cancelled, I can go online the whole day. What I do when I go online is gaming, browsing facebook, or some online jobs.

I've worked on an internet shop before and I've stayed online for at least 16 hours up to 20 hours a day. Even after work I'm always online before I go to sleep. I think that's the time when I was maintaining a website and finding a lot of subscribers from different sources for traffic mainly in social media. But now mostly I'm online for monitoring emails from our business clients sometimes through facebook but most of the times on gmail.

But if I am to calculate, I think I spend as much as 8 hours online every day that even if I am not working on sites, I am chatting with friends and families on social media networks.

I really feel you my good friend. As much as we have other jobs doing, we seem not be limited in still having our way online probably discussing and having friends with friends and family.

Honestly, I am the chat type of person, I prefer being online chatting and using it as a means of communication than actually calling someone over the phone. I can practically communicate with friends for as long as more than 6 months without placing a single phone call to such person but I could be in constant communication with him or her through chat messengers such as Facebook messenger, Whatsapp, and Telegram chat.

It's not that I don't like putting calls through to my friends, no not really I only call on cases of emergency when I require swift response to the reason why I called.

The best answer I can give you is "too long." To be honest, I spend nearly every waking moment on the Internet. Now don't get me wrong, by no means do I feel that I have an addiction specifically to the Internet. It is simply because everything I do in life has been boiled down to using the Internet.

I work as a freelancer online, so I work on the Internet. I don't watch television, I stream my shows on the Internet. I don't own physical books, I download eBooks on the Internet. I don't go to the library, I study and read on the Internet.

It's hard to stay off the Internet when you can essentially find EVERYTHING you need there.

Don't get shocked one day if you are already inside the Internet. Do you also eat in the Internet as well? How long can you stay online? Kidding aside, I used to be like this when I first graduated high school and couldn't go to college. So I was working for a friend doing online searches and encoding while I save up for my college tuition. And as you said, everything that I needed was on the Internet and I even eat in front of my desktop computer! Those times.. wew.

Then, I wake up at 11:00 am because I know that I have a class but fortunately, class was suspended because of a typhoon. I don't have a set time for this. I can easily spend a whole entire day online. If I've had a long week at school and just want to relax for a day I can do that by reading up on forums and watching Youtube videos along with Netflix. Gaming is also done all online now a days so I can spend the first twelve hours of my day just doing that with my friends, this only usually happens on snow days when classes are cancelled at our High School and no one can go outside. I'm online for at least four hours of a normal day, I can go much longer if I'm not busy.

I can stay long for 16 hours a day unless I feel dizzy, and go to sleep instead. I am more interested to have online to in Facebook since the trend of that social media makes me satisfy all the time. I don't usually going Online store to choose items to buy, because I don't have any money to get one of those things. Since Facebook become famous more people become attracted to it, and many old people try new social networking, as basic wants in our society.

What give me more interest about social media is the trends, especially the politics in every country. I always give attention to the inner details of every news. We can see every movement, and every crisis specially in Syrian way. More people do understan why these countries obliterated themselves, because of funding terrorism by other nation, for interest. This is why I still awake more than ten hours a day.

In some social media is intragram. I like posting picture to that social media site, because you can post images everything you wanted to do. Though privacy still carry out in every website, but most the time becomes unnecessary give our information to someone else. This is why sometimes I avoid social media, instead I focus myself doing a lot of research to answer my questions in everything.

That's a very interesting question. I have actually stopped counting the hours now. Between my computer and my mobile phone. I would say perhaps give or take 20 hours or so. Strange enough I don't even feel that I spend enough hours online as it is. I do come up for air and food I guess. I've been thinking lately as well I have to incorporate some flexible positioning during my online hours so as to avoid issues with posture and what some people experience from sitting or being in one position too long. Other than that I have no problem with the hours I spend online and perhaps on certain days I will even try to spend even more hours online to achieve a given task or fulfill some research functions as well.

Well, please don't judge me. Getting online is my way of expressing myself. I am an introvert type of person and it is not easy for me to get along with people. I can easily express myself on the internet without being so conscious of my surroundings.

There are also times when I am online for a short period of time because I go out. I can do my business online or offline so I usually go out when I am meeting clients or prospects for my business presentations or when I have speaking engagements to coach my teammates. I also go out to hangout with friends or to join my family in outings or events. I am online for around 2 hours or less when I go out. The time I spend online really depends on the activities I have for the day.
