Life Hack 1: How to make cheese on toast in a toaster

If you're a student living on a budget, there's nothing like a couple slices of cheese on toast to get you through the morning right? But if you don't have a grill it can be tricky to make one due to the way gravity works!

If you have a normal toaster, gravity causes the cheese to melt down inside it and you end up with a glob of melted cheese at the end of your toasty. Not good!

But with this little life hack, you can turn your bread toaster into a mini grill and make the perfect cheese on toast with it without making a mess of things.

 1. All you have to do is turn the toaster on its side.
 2. Carefully slide the cheese sandwich into the toaster.
 3. Then carefully turn the toaster on by pressing down on the handle.

Tips: It's best that you only do one slice at a time. And this isn't a recommended long term solution. Most toasters are made out of plastic such as cheap Argos toasters and doing it "too much" could cause it to catch fire! In fact, if you probably shouldn't even try this unless you have a CO2 fire extinguisher handy.

You don't want to happen what happened to Suzanne Dale from England who set fire to her toaster trying this. One minute she was looking forward to a bit of grilled cheese, the next she was throwing a flaming toaster out the window. She posted about on Facebook and was met with much scorn in a post that went viral last year.

That said, if you're not a complete idiot, you can probably use your toaster to make a slice or two of cheese on toast and you wont need to change the oven rack after.

Have you ever used a toaster to make grilled cheese on toast with?

Ok so I was loving this post and starting to wonder how much cheese I could pile onto one piece of toast (because I do love my cheese) without it causing a problem and then I scrolled down to see the burning toaster and I burst out laughing.

So Mike not only have you provided me with a great way to make toast, you have also given me a good laugh which is good for the soul but most importantly you have also shown me how to make some of my content to go viral.

So not only must you have a fire extinguisher ready but the video camera must be set up and standing ready each and every time you make some cheesy toast. Then if anything goes wrong I can film the whole thing including throwing my flaming toaster out the window.

I don't mind at all if a post goes viral and people scorn me, that is like waaayyyy cool.

Um are you saying it is possible to make the cheese toast with metal toasters or saying that you can roast marshmallows over a metal toaster that is on fire... rather than a plastic toaster that is on fire?

Yeah I'm sure the toxins and stuff won't be so great but like we were chatting about in the other discussion you can get cancer from toast anyway! Never mind that, we roasted marshmallows over the fire about 2 weeks back and they tasted awful, like plastic. What on earth are the marshmallows these days being made from? OMG it was so bad. It was nothing like I remembered they were like when I was young. My kids wouldn't even eat them.

Wow! Thanks for this ingenius tip and an easy way to make grilled cheese using a toaster. This is just a hack and it is not recommended to do always. Maybe you can do this once or twice a week so that the toaster will not be overworked.

This is really nice for it will provide someone like me the opportunity to make cheese for home consumption and can even sell them to people around me. The recipe is quite cool and easy to do. Will give that a try.

I never try to put on cheese into toaster. It gets sticky. And it can be bad for the toaster. So you can get the idea that toaster has it's own set of the limits. You just have to understand that toaster depending on how you handle it may get damaged. I personally think that toaster has it's set of the functions that needs managed. So on that point I'd say it's better to not add any liquid or cheesy stuff into the toaster.

I think this is an awesome life hack. I'm normally quite creative , but have never thought of doing something like this. I hope it works with a steel toaster and doesn't set it on fire. I will have a blanket or bucket of sand on hand in case.

Normally to make cheese on toast I use my sandwich maker . It comes out alright but it's sticks to the top of the sandwich maker and becomes a bit gross. It also takes quite a bit of time to clean the spilled cheese . So I hope this does not happen here. It would be a bit of a nightmare to get off.

This is definitely a great hack especially on those days when you are short of time. I have seen some YouTube videos where people were using aluminum foil and parchment paper to get the perfect cheese toast. Those hacks were not as easy as the one you suggested the reason for which I want to try this hack of yours.

Totally a wonderful hack and also a easy and fastest way to eat my favorite toast thing on a bread. This is just wonderful in every way, like everyone at my age can make it. I would definitely try this and make it my own with a special twist on it.

I was doing just perfect, until I saw the picture of the flying on fire toaster. Wow! how could that happen? Was it like too much cheese, or what? Honestly, I like the tip, and for sure I want to try it, no matter if the thing has to fly out through my window hahaha. But I just want to be sure what not to do, because I can get really scared in seconds, and believe me, that toaster will go out faster than Bolt running at the Olympics.

I have never tried to make cheese on a toaster, I usually make cheese on the microwave, I think the results are similar.

Thnx a ton! Its been a dream to try cheese toast in my toaster. I tried many a time but the result was always negative. I used to though that it is all because of cheap toasters .But, now I know the real story. I will try to toast only one slice with caution. Hope, this time I will find success.
