Home Crafts: Bath Bombs with essential oils

I am loving all the home craft ideas, especially the ones that can be used for gifts. So I thought I would add one that I do regularly that is a huge hit: Bath Bombs!

Here are the ingredients:
2 cups bicarb of soda
1 cup cream of tartar
1 to 2 tablespoons of olive oil
Food coloring
Essential Oils

You will also need a spray bottle of water and some silicone cup cake trays or ice trays.I have beautiful heart shaped silicone cup cake trays and also flowers.

1. Mix the bicarb of soda, cream of tartar, essential oil and food coloring
2. Spray the mixture a few times with water and mix.
3. Push the back of a spoon into the mixture and see if it holds shape. If it doesn't spray some more water into it and mix it up again until it does hold shape. It needs to be the consistency of wet sand.
4. Fill the trays with the mixture and compact it.
5. Leave them to dry out for about 2 days.
6. Gently remove them from the trays and they are ready to use.

I have done this loads of times using Lavender essential oils. Lavender is known to relax and aid sleep. It is wonderful to have a bath using Lavender bath bombs, you will have a great sleep!

It is a pleasure and you could maybe even sell them too at a craft market if you do that sort of thing. This is a lovely homemade product to sell!

I've been looking into making my own soap too! If you know how please post about it!

Your recipe seems to be very interesting and cheap. I guess I have all those ingredients in the kitchen except the tartar cream, I wonder from where can I buy it...I may try it in one day but that food coloring is safe to use?

Find it at Walmart. Not pretty sure, but I guess I found a Mc Cormick one for only $3 and it lasted for long. I had it for cooking cakes and snickerdoodles, and they turned out delicious. In case you can't find it at your closest Walmart, you can try the online site, they always have it.

I love beauty products made from natural ingredients. With store bought products you never know what was used to make them, they could be killing you softly especially if you are from a third world country, where manufacturers are just interested in making money. They don't even care how they do it. I like your recipe and I may try it, except I don't know where to get the ingredients and some of the essential oils may be a bit expensive.

This is a nice one. Will try this out at least the ingredients are readily available and can be accessed to put the bomb together. Will make this as a gift this season especially for my old aunt, who barely sleeps for 4 hours a day.I'm sure this will help her sleeps better.

Bath bombs and essential oil? Is it so cool to hear! Like you, I love doing DIY craft ideas. I always search in the internet certain things that I can do by myself. Most of the times, I give my home crafts as a present to someone. I am glad that they like it. Thank you for sharing this idea. I hope you can give more home crafts. I will look forward to it.

@Blank629, I agree her ideas for crafts and home made stuff are always top of the range. I tried this receipe out with my kids and they absolutely loved it. We had the best time making it, plus it was all chemical free. This year I have already started to make them for my brother's and cousins children. I plan to give it to them as one of their christmas presents(Lol, they will kill me If I don't get them anything else).
