Lay's Chicken and Waffles Chip Review

Weird combination right?

Actually this is a very popular southern dish. So for the first time today, i actually bought and tried this crazy flavored chip. And apparently there are a few other oddly flavored Lay's Chips. Like Sriracha, wavy truffle fries, smoked gouda and chive, and cheesy garlic bread. Those sound insane and really weird flavor for a bag of chips, but i would totally try some of those different flavors!

So the chicken and waffles i tried today and it was more of a sweet after tasting kind of chip. At first you could taste the chicken and then it slowly goes into the taste of the syrup flavor from the waffles! I thought it was pretty good, my husband and the girls on the other hand are not really huge fans of them! LOL works for me, now I can actually enjoy a snack without it disappearing before i can get to it!!! =]

Have you guys ever tried these kinds of chips? If you have, what was your opinion on the taste of each one you tried? Should chip companies, like Lay's, just stick to the classic flavors, like plain, sour cream and onion, and cheddar and sour cream, we are all used to and like?

Thanks for reading guys!

Chicken and waffles is a traditional southern meal. Steak and eggs is another great mean for breakfast. You can find these meals at any waffle house or other southern restaurants all over the east coast. I have had this a few times during my years of driving back and fourth to Florida. When i saw the chips i just had to try them and honestly i was not amazed by them. I think lays had a hard task at hand and they did it the best they could. The chicken taste is more like pepper top ramen packet and then you get the sweet syrup taste after which is just weird for a chip. Will i veer buy them again? Maybe for a party or if we are having a few guest over just to see what they think.

yea its a weird flavor for a chip. LOL i have heard of those dishes before but just have never had the chicken and waffles one. im sure the actual chicken and waffle dish tastes alot better than the chips!! HAHA i don't think i would buy these chips all the time, although i did like them, that's not the kind of chip taste i could eat frequently.

i am actually eager to try the other flavors too, just to say I've tried them! LOL except for any that just look and sound way too weird! i would definitely try the cheesy garlic bread ones, those actually sound pretty good! i probably wouldn't try the sriracha ones or the wavy truffle fries....because what is that? I'm not a fan of gouda cheese so i definitely would not be trying the smoked gouda and chive flavor.

thanks for responding jkeyz! i look forward to trying some more of these wacky flavors with you! HAHA

I have not had the Chicken and Waffles brand of lays chips yet, but I recently saw a commercial where they are advertising a new loaded taco flavor chip and also a new flavor of fried green tomatoes chips--that sounds really good to me, actually. I grew up eating fried green tomatoes, so I am curious as to whether they really achieve this flavor or not. Of course it won't be as good as the real thing, but they might achieve something close to it that is original and tasty nonetheless. They are getting more and more creative and out there with their flavors, and I think they have a contest where people can submit flavor ideas.

Fried green tomatoes? Honestly, I grew up with the idea that those are just from the movie, the one from the 90's, but never ever have taste them. Do yo have like an own recipe? Now I'm very curious and would like to try to cook some and make my own opinion. And by the way, my favorite chips flavor is Vinegar and salt chips, seriously they are sooo yummy.

ballyhara,
No, this is a very real thing, and they are delicious. It's not my grandma's, but here is a link to a good basic recipe for this Southern delicacy--I think you will love these. I also love Vinegar and Salt chips--

What is it with Lays and all of these crazy, weird and quite frankly disgusting.... new flavors of potato chips? Who asked for this? I've seen Wasabi flavors and even one called Brazilian Picanha? I mean I could get down with some of the new tastes like Crispy Taco but the flavor called Everything Bagel? Who'd eat a potato chip flavored like a bagel?

For me, it doesn't seem like a weird combination, like chicken and waffles are good enough and looks edible for me. And also, it seems like it would have the same taste, like with the egg and waffles combination. But I haven't tasted this chip before and it actually seems interesting and awesome at the same time.

I always buy the original Lays as I don't really like the flavored ones. I don't think we have the Chicken and Waffles flavor in my country as I can't recall having seen them at the supermarket. The only flavored Lays chips that I tasted was bolognese and I didn't like it. However, my sister loves the flavored chips. She will be glad to taste the Chicken and Waffles flavored chips.

Lays and waffles are something new to me. We do not have this dish here in my country. I do like the chicken flavor and we order some chicken based foods, but most of our meals are cooked in the home.

It does sound like a weird flavor. But I guess variety wouldn't hurt. Trying out new flavors makes for an interesting experience. I like cheese and smoky flavored chips.
