A Memory Rock Garden

This year I want to honor those that have passed on in my life with a memory garden. Both of my parents have passed on, as well as my mother in law, my step son, and two beloved fur babies. I think that it would be neat to make a rock garden and have things in the garden to remember them by. Has anyone ever done this? If so what are some good ideas to put in this? I was thinking since my mom loved angels to incorporate an angel statue in the garden. And then find things that others loved to put in as well. Just wanting some neat ideas as well that would make this area fully functional yet beautiful as well.

I have never heard of a memory rock garden until now but that sounds like a really nice idea. It's always nice to have some kind of way of remembering your loved ones who have passed.

Placing something in a rock garden that reminds you of them is a nice way to start, maybe their favourite flowers, statues of things they liked, even photo's if you are able to protect them well enough. Maybe having a sitting area around the memory rock garden as well would be nice for the warmer months so you could sit out there during the nice days.

Shortie861,
I have seen some rock gardens when I traveled through Japan, but I never thought about creating myself until now. One garden I saw there, in Kamakura, actually represented the mainland and surrounding islands of Japan and was explained to me by my guide. I thought this was such a cool concept and a great way to envision one's country or world. Using this concept to honor loved ones and friends who have passed is a beautiful idea, I think.

Oh, what a beautiful idea. I have not really heard in particular of a memory garden, but it certainly does sound like a lovely thought. I have also lots many people in my life, most of my family, and having a way to honor them and bring their memories into my everyday life sounds like such a lovely idea. I think a way of including their photos would be nice. Maybe in a small frame or modpodged onto a rock or something. I also think that painting rocks with their names or with a small image of something they liked could be special too. If you look on Pinterest, you'll find lots of ideas for painted rocks. You probably could also find some ideas for ways to honor your loved ones in a memory garden.

Wow this is so nice and very thoughtful of you. I must say that I am quite sorry for your loss. Losing a loved one is a hard thing to bear and it's not something to wish to anyone.

I recently lost an uncle from my maternal home. He was the only son. He was killed by a heart attack. He was just buried two nights ago.

This is a very super wise decision.sometimes even when our loved ones have passed on,we can hardly forget them. Is like they're still part of us.I first saw a rock garden in a friend's place.

She had nice flowers, some statues of her loved ones, picture frames of them and some plants. You could just do it the way you love.Sorry for your losses.

I have never heard of such thing but it is a great idea. It's a good way to show that you remember those that passed away and that out of this memory you can create something beautiful. Around the rocks you could put flowers that the person liked, maybe some small statues and things like that.

Me too, never heard of it or haven't seen one before and also I agree that it's a wonderful idea to honor some of your loss loved ones. If I would honor my family with something beautiful and something awesome I would probably do the same, I would make a garden full of memories.

I never do this memory rock garden and I don't want to make a one yet. But for me, one good idea is that place a thing in your garden that will keep you remembering that person. A simple design is enough.

I have never thought about this before. That's a wonderful idea. I lost my grandfather and my rabbit Ely some years back. Maybe I will try to get something similar in my garden. Thanks for the great idea.

A rock garden is a lovely idea. It's really touching and symbolic of those we cherish. I think having artistic portraits can add a nice touch of creativity.

I’m sorry for your loss.I think that this is a fantastic and beautiful idea.I like your idea of incorporating all the things that your loved ones like. I think that this is the perfect way to honor their memories. I would be interested to know where you would put the memorial garden. Would it be behind your house for privacy or in front of your house as a commemoration and as reminder to everyone.
