Where do you sit normally to reminisce?

We all have our favourite corner where we sit and relax, reminiscing. It could be in the garden, on the porch, in a balcony and some even do that in the rest room away from it all. We all need those e corner overlooking the garden, specially the birdbath. I get to see birds frolicking which is quite relaxing. We all need that space to get away from it all. What is yours?

I wish I had a private backyard like you but since I live in flats, we only have a shared one. Luckily for me, not many people use it despite how beautiful and organized it is. It is HUGE and we have plenty of different big trees planted all over. Such as: pine tree, oak tree, and birch. In the middle of it all, we have this medium sized wooden bench where you can just sit down and relax. It is the most peaceful place in the world and I absolutely love it. I often go there in the night time and just sit alone and reminisce. It's amazing because, at night time, there's no noise, you have fresh air and you can watch the stars while remembering the good memories of the past.

You and your thoughts is what one needs for company. A space of our own is so important to get our sanity back after day's running around. I can imagine that place where you get to reminisce surrounded by trees and perhaps the moon for company.

I have a favorite chair in my bedroom and I like to turn on music and think of the old days. And every time I think about the old days I think "How am I still alive?" And that I did more in my first 28 years of my life then most people do in a lifetime.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

The first 28 years are action packed for all lI guess. I am still active at this age - I am a senior Activity is a blessing and one needs to be forever in the attitude of gratitude if they can be active even in their ripe old age.

I usually sit on our balcony with some coffee. Reminiscing memories and the past are best for me when I am in there. Looking far away and seeing people pass by is like looking back on my past days. Sometimes I'm with grandma doing it on the terrace but often I usually do it alone in our balcony. The best part about this place is I can see the outside world where in there are lots of things coming and gonna be happen.

I often say rather than read a book written by someone else who perhaps must have been sitting in their favourite spot churning out chapters after chapter, go over our very own thoughts which could be far interesting than any of those books we read. Each of us have a great story.

I do the same, but I drink milk tea. Our balcony has a really nice view and I just get lost in thought when I'm there sometimes, and it really helps me relax and rejuvenate myself to prepare for the things that I need to do.

I usually do my reminiscing while I water the garden. I really enjoy this part of my day. I usually get up early in the morning to do the watering but if it has been a particularly hot day, I will water again at night. I use this time to re-evaluate my day or prior day depending on the time. This time is also used to peruse my garden and check for insects, sick plants, etc. My garden is my haven!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

iamawriter
That is the time you are on your own and with what you love. I am sure you love your garden. Nice to be just ourselves calmly going the day's activities and also may be mentally making a checklist of what needs to be done the following day. It is during that time that we remember things we have left undone such as may be locking a door? (lol)

I actually have two spots for this.

The first spot is the place in my room where I sit to meditate. I am a Buddhist and have made a little shrine for myself, with a Buddha statue, some incense and candles. In front of this shrine I have a cushion which I sit on when I meditate. It isn't much, but it's my little sacred corner of the house where I can be alone with my thoughts.

The other location is a bit harder to get to. By my house is a huge river, and if you bicycle East along this river you eventually get to the point where two rivers merge to form that one river. It's a quiet spot, far from civilization and all you see are the rivers, the tree line, and the open sky.

You do have the right place for reminiscing specially that place far from the madding crowd. We all need that space which we can call our own and that is where we can relive moments both happy and sad.

Before, in my everyday life when I used to go to work, i am able to reminisce in the car specially if there is music that nostalgically bring me to some scenes in the past. It is just like day dreaming, but it is also snappy and then I will be disturbed in the traffic...coz when you get home you are confronted again by chores and no time to reminisce.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

iamawriter
As long as you have space that you can call your own and that space you get in the car could be better than sitting in the house where if you have many members then you will not be left in peace.
I can truly relive moments specially those holidays I have been on.

Same here. Whenever I am on a ride going to work or even going at home, I always plug in my earphones and listen to 90's music. Music lets me reminisce those good old days when everything was simple, no pressure, no stress. Just pure happiness.

I usually sit on the swing located at the front porch of my home. It feels really relaxing and soothing as I can feel the cool breeze outside. From the swing, I am usually able to notice birds flying around while my dogs play around the garden. I feel it's essential to take some moments to chill and just enjoy nature after work as it helps to make me feel better.

I have seen those swings here. You get to not only reminisce you also get to relax in a pleasant ambiance and if there are birds around than that is a beautiful setting. I get to see my birdbath from my favourite corner. Since we have transparent glass louvres for our windows I get a clear view.

I usually sit in my bedroom, and it's a great place to think and remember a lot of things. As long as you're alone and that place makes you feel in peace with yourself, I think anything comfortable is great.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

iamawriter
Seems you have total privacy in your bedroom and that is what one needs to reminisce. A bedroom is a place where one can be most comfortable in that one does not have to sit around but even lying down with just one's thoughts for company.
You must be having a spacious room with an ambiance that attracts you there.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Tania997
Yes, it's a spacious room but the way it is organized also makes me feel calm. I don't know, something about the colors, the walls, just the way everything was put in there makes me feel at peace and in total privacy. It's just so easy to reminisce there, I don't feel like I could do that in other rooms even if they were empty.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

It is great to hear that! I personally love to arrange the stuff in my room in a tidy manner. I find it easier to reminisce in my bedroom at night. Space is important as it also helps make my mind feel at ease.

Clutter is the cause of a disturbed mind. Youngsters do not seem to realise that and blame it on everything else but that. Have you seen a normal youngster's room. There is nothing but clutter there. Strangely they do not want any help to de clutter their room (lol)

I actually love being outside, and my way to relax and think about things is to go out somewhere and go for a walk. Most of my life I have lived in the country, so it was easy to go outside and walk through the woods on a pathway or a trail. It seems like when I am walking , my brain can just go into what I call "free-thinking" and wander whither it wants. Sometimes I think about the past, and many times I can solve immediate problems better by just letting my subconscious work on them while I am walking.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

iamawriter
All of us need that space to be just with our thoughts and us. What better way for you to walk through the woods. You are indeed lucky that you have that kind of space. With concrete jungles mushrooming everywhere I hope no one gets the idea to do that to this sublime space.

I like to sit in my car, believe it or not. Driving has a very therapeutic effect for me, and I enjoy just driving around town with some music one while I think about things. Something about exploring my city, which is pretty large, is really fun! It like I'm in my own world, my own little bubble while I'm traveling around (which in a way, I am, I suppose). Very interesting to see all the other people out walking and driving, thinking that they have their own lives and things going on in their own lives.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Baburra
I know what you mean. I like to drive whenever I want to free my mind as well. I think focusing on the road helps a lot with clearing your thoughts, and not only that but it's also very good with eliminating mental creative blocks as well., at least that's how it is for me. When I'm just focused on driving, my mind becomes more free to wander and that's when I usually get my ideas.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

TheArticulate
Yes! Most of my ideas will come to me while I'm on the road as well. I wonder if it's because I'm focused on driving, but the task itself isn't so consuming that I have to devote my whole attention to it, which allows my mind to wander.

I can't remember who said it, but I've heard someone say that your best ideas come to you "while you're driving or while you're taking a shower". I don't know why, but that's always resonated with me!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Long drives and happy thoughts. What more can one ask for. With music in the background it is kind of a real change - a getaway from it all. Surprisingly it is in such environments that new ideas crop up.

It's no so much where I sit when I reminisce, but rather what I have with me. Often times I just plop right down on the couch... with a handful of my scrapbooks. My husband and I are lucky to do a lot of fun things, both locally and traveling out further, and I always have my camera handy. I love taking photos! The fun for me doesn't just stop at the photos, I then create lovely scrapbooks to commemorate our many adventures and shared good times. Whenever either of us are feeling down or nostalgic, we take out these scrapbooks and look through them. I make one for each year that we are together, so they really span our life together. In our first few years my husband use to be frustrated with the time I spent on the scrapbooks. Thankfully, over the years he's really come to appreciate the scrapbooks and the ability to look back over our life at any given moment. He know actually suggests photos for us to take while on outings or helps save memorabilia that I can include in our scrapbooks. So, essentially, that is my favorite way of reminiscing.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

iamawriter
Seems you can best do that with husband for company. What you have done together needs to be reminisced together. Why not? You can even talk about it and recall those happy memories that you spent together.
These days I notice photos are clicked by the hundreds only to be consigned to folders never to be looked at again.

I don't usually do alone time with myself to reminisce and if I do, I would make it worth my while. In our current home, there is a local park that has a pond on it. And that pond has koi fish - very large ones. And I would always sit beside the pond staring at the water or at the sky and enjoy the solo moment.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

My home doesn't have a compound nor my own pond. As I said, the pond is located in our local park. We don't own the park either. It's a public park like most cities and towns have. There is a pond there where you can sit and relax on the bench or on the grass.

I often reminisce memories at places where I am alone. Mostly I love just sitting on my bed or just lying down reminiscing all the things that happened to me, good and bad. It just feels so comfy when in your own room, all alone and just frozen on one side thinking.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Is that your living room?? So beautiful, relaxing and comfortable from the look at the picture. I usually reminisce of past memories when I am blogging instead. As I type, I remembered about the past, am able to type out my feelings and thoughts. When I sit in the corner, I don't reminisce. Instead, I would be looking here and there, thinking of what topics to write at forum sites and enjoying the scenery.

I used to go to the park to collect my thoughts but unfortunately these days I've grown much too lazy to do that. I mostly just sit around the house and watch Youtube videos on days off and I rarely have enough quiet time to reminisce. Hopefully, someday I will miss doing that again and start going to the park again, but for now I'm content just sitting in the living room and drinking tea. Perhaps when I buy my own house one day I'll have a nice outdoor spot where I can sit and relax, but for now since I live in a building I just have to sit by the window.

My favorite place to do this is about an hour away by car. I go to a place called Mount Cheaha in Alabama. The word, "cheaha", from what I understand, is Cherokee for "highest place". It overlooks a huge lake in its valley, and you can see the Appalachian Trail spreading north away from you while sitting on its peak. I have been visiting this natural wonder since I was eighteen years old--I am forty-five now. I have many memories there of friends and loved ones and of good camping and climbing trips. This place always seems to center and to ground me, and going there gives me a sense of inner peace and quiet. It creates a meditative moment for me just by showing up there.

I read your comment, and I literally can see the Mount Cheaha. Wish I could have a place like that to sit and meditate for a moment, even if I would have to drive for an hour as you say. I live in a very tiny apartment, so the only place I can use so far is my bathtub. Not big space or amazing view, but the point is to be with myself and away from my day to day job. So envy of your perfect place, for sure seems awesome.

You have a great place to go. Yogis have such places where they meditate. You are one lucky guy if I may say so. How often is that you are able to do it? May be when you are highly strung and 'alone' time is what would be needed at that hour?

I just go out and stand in our garden, as long as it is sunny and the weather is good of course. I don't want to be standing in the garden whilst it is pouring with rain Where do you sit normally to reminisce?. The garden is just such a peaceful place that you can think to yourself without any distractions. I prefer being alone somewhere sere and tranquil. Say the beach at night, on a field of grass lying down watching the stars at night, anywhere where I could be with myself. What I also do is bring my camera, and guitar with me, doing something productive with myself like taking pictures of the night sky, the beach, playing my favorite songs with my guitar and writing poetry. But it would not be complete without cracking a cold one open by myself. Where do you sit normally to reminisce?

I do a lot of this in a corner of my room, there's a sofa that is quite comfortable for me kept beside my little library.I sit there to think about my past, review the present and a little worry about the future. But in all,it gives me a sense of direction anytime I spend time on that chair.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Interior decorators normally recommend that a sofa be kept in one's bedroom to relax and reminisce rather than do in lying down on the bed. Lying down will induce sleep and that will be the end of reminiscing (lol)

I usually reminisce and reflect on my and the stuff that I have been doing when I'm on the bus on the way to the office. It's a 2 hour ride from where I live to the office so I really get to relax and think things through. I even fall asleep while doing it. Reminiscing has oftentimes led me to filing resignation. I guess if you are really dragging yourself to office and are not really enjoying what you're doing, then that's bound to happen. I guess I should just avoid reminiscing while commuting and just sleep. lol.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

That is a pretty long ride enough to bring back memories of good old days. What you reminisce on is your choice and so it is better you avoid thoughts that will tempt you to submit your resignation. There is more to life than having thoughts of a boring office life (lol)

I don't have any particular place or area on where I reminisce about the past, reflect on my mistakes and try to somehow people that became part of my life. But whenever I find a place or time when I'm alone in a secluded area with no people and noises around, that's the time I think of funny memories mostly around my childhood friends and neighbors that I used to play with. I always have these particular Senti-spot in my house where I usually sit by and just look around the surroundings. My balcony is a space in my house where I usually spend most of my time just thinking over a lot of things. This is where I could think more clearly so I prefer writing my books here or do something that requires excessive focus. I usually find the balcony more pleasing. We do have that one near the bedroom. And it's definitely good in many ways. You can see that if you are trying to find out a good place. So being calm and silent is good enough for me. I find that weekends can be more silent in some ways. And some o the time hectic times around may cause it harder for me to adjust with the people. So that's why I prefer the balcony in that case to adjust with there.

Reading through responses here most choose their balcony for that alone time. Although a balcony is part of a house or flat it does sort of isolates itself from the rest of the space which is shared by everyone throughout the day. I am sure people in your household must be taking their turns to be alone there.

Usually i sit anywhere free if there is no one other than myself, You cant reminisce if you are distracted by many factors. Reminiscing something is such a relaxing feeling. Maybe under the shade of a tree? Its refreshing and relaxing plus the air is clean while reminiscing.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Our memories are a collection of moments that need to be re-lived. To re-live those memories we need to isolate ourselves from the rest of the world and for you doing that under the shade of a tree seems perfect. Not all are have trees or gardens and those who have like you and me should be really grateful.

I usually go to a local park to clear my head during the Summer time. During the colder months, I just take a nap or watch some t.v. to clear my head. Sometimes I'll take in a movie or go downtown and walk around just taking in the scenery. Midtown NYC is particularly beautiful at night time.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

You need that space to clear your head but not to bring back memories. To each their own I guess. Clearing those thoughts that could be disturbing is necessary to think straight and move on in life. One cannot achieve anything with a disturbed mind.

Believe it or not, if I were to reminisce, I'd go to a public bus and pick a faraway place to go so I would sit there for hours just to think about it. Yes it might be a bit hectic because it's public, but our provincial busses here usually don't change passengers until their designated terminal plus the traffic makes the trip much longer. Also in our country usually if you use your earphones on public places nobody has enough courage to disturb you.

For those whose mode of transport is the bus to get to work or anywhere on a daily basis provides them the opportunity to be by themselves and go through life's happenings. Our thoughts need attention and that we can only do if we are left alone.

Your question made me a little sad lol. I usually go out to have coffee or something to reminisce, I just imagine the moments in my head having a balcony and garden would be great but sadly I don't have those. I mostly go to places that is quiet since a loud place would hinder my reminiscing haha.

Having music and scent appropriate for the mood also helps me to better imagine the moment. I usually reminisce about sad memories and I don't know why maybe its easier to remember sad things?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Even sad events are happenings that could be brought back to dwell upon. If it is a death in the family thoughts rush back how the illness was coped with, who helped and how the death occurred. The day of the funeral itself is packed with so many memories.

In our town park is my favorite place when I reminisce. Reminiscing the past is an emotional thing we can feel. Honestly we can't do anything to change the past because past is in the past we should let it go. Let it pass.

Ice cream is a good company in reminiscing with matching cool music played in our phone. I love reminiscing especially if you are reminiscing what have you gone through in winning challenge over failures.

In my house, I have a studio and I normally lay down there. That is the place where I can find time to relax and forgive all the stress I have on my mind. I watch movies and my favorite tv shows, one of them is Game of Thrones. Every Sunday I make pasta or some junky food with my sister and then we watch the new episode of this tv show. This room is perfect to watch movies with your family and friends and spend time together. My dog also likes this room it is the only place where he is allowed to enter.

In my room. When I am alone, I sit in my bedroom and reminisce about the past. About the people who used to be a part of my life. It happens during at night especially when everyone else is sleeping. I think about the decisions or the mistakes that I have made in the past and then compare it to the life that I have now. One more place that I sit in when I want to reminisce is the park that is near to my house. It is also the exact place where I have created lots of happy memories. Sometimes it is crazy that in one sitting, you get to remember a lot of things that you did in the past. The memories, the people you used to be with and the moments you had with them. It can either make you happy or sad.

I think it's better to reminisce in the exact places that circumstances have really happened. In that way, you will really feel the moment and you don't have to imagine the place where it happened because it's all in front of your eyes. But if you cannot go back to that place anymore, it's good to reminisce in your balcony or maybe at the beach during sunset or sunrise. For me, reminiscing about good things is like therapy because it makes you feel good and it's a good escape to reality even just for a couple of minutes.

My meditation space is in the terrace of our house where I can see a portion of the mountain where the sun sets in the afternoon. Even though our house is in front of a somewhat busy road during day time, I still find calmness in the greenery I can observe in the mountains opposite our house. During summer is the best time to sit by a chair and just think, meditate or just stare at the mountain and the setting sun. Sometimes when I am troubled, I meditate on this spot and just find calmness through the storms. When I had my baby, I would carry him outside sometimes just holding him and humming sweet music to him and we would just be in the moment of it. It is such a happy place for me.

Actually I sit where I can see some beautiful sceneries so that I can reflect more while appreciating the wonders of the world. It makes me think that everything is special in their own ways and I am special in my own terms because I am unique. Sometimes being along also can help a lot to help you reminisce more and more much effective than when you are with others. I have a couple of gateways. When I want to be by myself, because of a bad day or I'm upset, I lock myself in my room. I don't necessarily want to but that's the only place that's convenient for me at the moment. In my ideal world or in future, to get away I plan to sit outside and stare at my magnificent view of the green fields, mountains, and hills. Or sit at my beachfront property and just stare at the sea.

Another option in my real world, when I want to get away is to get into my car put the music on at full blast and just take a drive 2 or 3 hours away from home. I find this relaxes me and gives me the time I need to be alone and reflect. This is not just a cliche watched in movies or music videos, it really works.

With a child and loads of work before me, I can hardly find time to take a break by myself. The best time for me to contemplate is during long travels alone when I don't have to do the driving myself. I normally use the time to review some recent events and to plan and strategize as well. Honestly, reminiscing about the past brings painful memories of life's losses. I don't want to dwell on many of them because I have a life to live and a child to raise.
