Your Favourite Native food

My favorite local food is the Afang soup and Eba.It a soup prepared with a lot of oil, periwinkles, crayfish, water leaves and the Afang leaves. You can't visit any house in the south south geopolitical zone of Nigeria without eating this soup.

This food is mostly prepared by the rich and averagely rich people because of the amount of money involved in cooking it.It's mostly prepared during a festival, events, celebrations like marriages etc.

Please any time you visit Nigeria,Don't forget to relish this food.

I am from the Philippines and I love different kinds of foods. May it be from street foods to native foods.
TInola
Adobo
Sinigang
Embutido
Nilagang baka with mais
Giniling
Snacks:
Chicharon
Suman
Sapin-sapin
All kinds of "kakanin"

I would love to put photos in here but I don't know how to. LOL. However you may search on it on google if you have the time to look for those "yummy" foods. If one those listed are in the table, I can't help myself but have 3 or more refills of my plate for rice. It's as if I am not full enough. Those listed are just the major native foods that I can enumerate but I know to myself that there are more and I can't put them all here. If you visit here in the Philippines you may look for more different variety of foods in here. And lastly, my favorite drink is fresh buko. It's really cheap and healthy. You can look for a vendor anywhere just make sure to bring a bottle if you don't want to drink in a plastic bag, though.

Chicaron and balot is the best snack I would prefer to eat that you can see in parks and streets. I really love dipping them to Sukang Ilocos with lots of pepper. This native food is actually delicious, easy to find, and most of all it is very cheap that anyone can afford it. Tinola manok is best for people with fevers delicious food. Sapin- sapin is one of the best dessert i have tasted and it is more delicious when you put lots of latik or toasted desiccated coconut flakes. While doing this post makes me hungry Your Favourite Native food hope to taste more of native foods in other country.

I love chicharon, too! Especially when they are dipped in a chili-vinegar sauced. However I am not a fan of Balot. LOL. I don't really like to see the bones and feathers while eating. But I hope to eat other provincial foods, too.

Yes, balot are kind of scary to eat but once you start eating it you will not think of the appearance of it. Speaking of balot I also loved the one day old it very delicious and my friends and I actually love it and use it as our "pulutan" when we drink. Hope you like it to.

They said it's better to eat balot at night so that you won't be able to see the distorted appearance. LOL. Maybe I'll try it someday and learn from the professional balut eaters.

I do also like those foods, especially sinigang and adobo. When we have a feast, within our place. We usually celebrate mass, after the mass, we prepare more foods, for our guest and visitors. I don't usually help for cooking the food, after the preparations. I always greet our guest and invite them to eat with us. It's part of our culture to let our visitors, as especial guest to eat in feast seasons.

It is part of our culture to have food, as to serve, for our guest. We feel more happy, when they accept our invitations, and attend into our house. But eating special dishes, doesn't necessarily to prepare those foods, sometimes it serves in regular occasion.

Well, my favorite native foods are going to be a bit boring compared to the exotic cuisine mentioned above me. I was born in the American South, and raised there, so I grew up mainly eating the soul food of my grandmothers. Here's a list:

fresh buttermilk biscuits
country ham
fried green tomatoes
home-made pickles and peppers
squash casserole
green apple pies
sweet potato pie
collard green flavored with pork
mustard greens
black-eyed peas
gravy

And the list goes on and on. I miss my grandmothers' cooking so badly. They have both passed on, and it is hard to find good soul food places these days, even in the south.

JoeMilford,
I was really curious about "fried green tomatoes" that you mentioned. Its new to my ear and how does it taste by the way?. I think it's not a bit boring but interesting.

I was born in the Philippines and we have a lot of native food although "pork or chicken adobo" is the national food of the Philippines but my all time favorite native food is "tinolang native na manok" or in English it's called "native chicken soup". The native chicken is tasty especially if you will cooked it with lemon grass and tomato. Every time I ate "native chicken soup", it brings back memories of my mother because it is her specialty.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

JoeMilford
Hello there! Well, the green tomatoes are very tart, and a bit bitter; they almost have a bit of a sour citrus-like note to them. So, you dredge them in cornmeal and deep fry them, in peanut oil, if you have it. You can either season your cornmeal, or season the tomatoes with salt and pepper out of the fryer. Once thy cool and are ready to eat, you bite into the crunchy coating with the salt, and then you taste the warm sour center, it is quite delicious!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

BelindaMT
Yes I guess it is delicious I like the taste of sour citrus anyway. I will try that but instead of cornmeal I'm going to use oatmeal I think it's the only available downtown.

I'm really curious about the taste of squash casserole or any kinds of casserole because it's not a regular here in the Philippines. I've been hearing a lot about this dish but I don't know any restaurant who serves this dish. I believe it's delicious and tasty.

I am from the Philippines and my favorite local food is Kansi. It is a beef stew with Anato and Batuan seeds which makes it sour. It is a delicacy from the southern part of the Philippines. It is best eaten with rice and of course, a lot of chillies.

Another one is the typical and traditional Arepa, there is no way you come here, or you meet a Venezuelan that don't cook an Arepa for you, is kind of a round sandwich, made with corn flour, and you can fill it with any kind of food, from ham and cheese to potato-chicken salad, the options are endless. I'm from Brazil! We have many native foods here, but my favorite has to be feijoada. It's basically black beans and rice, but there are a lot of diferent seasonings that go with it, like pork, sausages, and many pig-related goodies! I'm not sure if there is anything from my native country that I like to be honest with you. There are actually quite a few sweet things from my native country that I love but I am not sure if it actually considered a native food or if it just one of those foods that the people like to eat. It's this sort of ring thing that is covered in honey or something. It's extremely sweet and sticky but it is so nice. Unfortunately, I am not sure what it is called so I can't seem to find it. My favorite (the most classic version) are pierogi ruskie which are filled with white cheese and potatoes. They're delicious. I am from eastern North Carolina. My favorite local dish is Eastern-style Barbecue. Our pulled pork is vinegar and pepper based without tomato. You will not find barbecue like this anywhere else. I must confess that ogbono soup is the first food I learnt how to cook and whenever I eat this food, it gives me a special kind of feeling that I can't get elsewhere.

Well at the moment I'm trying out a vegan diet, so I actually can't even eat most of what I would consider my favorite food native to my country. I'm currently living where I was originally born, the Balkans, and we have a lot of unique food that is absolutely delicious. One of my favorites is called Burek, which is a type of pastry that is made with your choice of filling, ranging from ground meat to cheese, and even classic pizza toppings like cheese, tomato, and mushrooms. It is a common tradition here to go out on the weekends and party all night, and wait for the bakeries to open in the morning and order some Burek with yogurt to stave off the ensuing hangover.

I'm brazilian, and since I'm from northeast, I'll be going with "Tapioca". It's simple the powder of manioc. After that, you place a thin layer of tapioca at the frying pan, toast a little and throw whatever you want: cheese, bacon, beef, pork. It's a really fast recipe, very common to see at street, and very cheap too. If you're comming to Brazil, try it! You won't regret.

My favorite native food is sinigang! It is v very tasty and bit sour but it really taste good .

It is traditionally tamarind based. Other versions of the dish derive their sourness from ingredients such as guava, calamansi, bilimbi, or unripe mango among others. Powdered soup base or bouillon cubes for sinigang based on tamarind or calamondin are also used in place of natural fruits. Vinegar is not used for making sinigang sour.
There are a lot of sinigang variations it could be meat fish, pork,or shrimp is often stewed with tamarinds, tomatoes, and onions. Other vegetables commonly used in the making of sinigang include okra, taro corms (gabi), daikon (labanos), water spinach (kangkong), yardlong beans (sitaw) and eggplant (talong). Most Filipinos like to cook sinigang with green finger pepper in order to enhance the taste while adding a little spice to the dish.

And my ultimate type of sinigang is PORK and SHRIMP!
Would you like to taste my native food? Check "Sinigang" on youtube.

Here in the Philippines every provinces have their own local food. One of my favorite is 'loming batangas. It has a thick and tasty sauce. Ingredients are pork, meatballs, kikiam, raw eggs. There are many 'lomi' that claims authentic 'loming batangas' but for me the real 'lomi' is only found in Batangas.

I am from the Philippines and my favorite native food is the Beef Stew or what we call Nilagang Baka. This is a main course dish that you can eat on its own without pairing it with cooked rice. It is rich in flavor because it has been cooked for a long time so that the meat is so tender and delicious to eat. Next in the dessert section is the Sapin-sapin, it is a layered glutinous rice cooked in coconut milk that is usually sprinkled with Latik (also from coconut milk) or sweetened dessicated coconut. For appetizers, I love the Crispy Kangkong leaves, it is the leaves of water spinach coated in an egg batter and deep friend to become crispy. It is served with ranch dressing. Wow, writing this comment up made me a little bit hungry.

I don't think I can choose dinuguan, bihon or siomai. Whenever they're served in a party, it feels like real heaven to me, especially when my grandma cooks it. Foreigners who visit in our country feels it icky to eat dinuguan since it does contain pig's blood and innards, but if cooked well, it's really tasty. I'm sorry if some readers would feel grossed out with my explanation. For bihon, we have different variations of it, but the one I love the most is from this restaurant that I frequent just because of their bihon. My favorite siomai is sold in this certain town and they use a spicy garlic paste that is really unique among others.

Probably my very own Tinola and Adobo and yeah that means my very own cooking. The way I cooked both of these yummy dishes at first is I saute first the chicken with ginger strips, crushed garlic and sliced onions, added some chili powders, salt and pepper. Yes I like them spicy. I always tend to tenderized the chicken and let it simmer until almost half of the water has evaporated making the broth more tastier.

My favorite native food is Adobo which were originated from Philippines. I really love the taste which would make you proud of your own country. Adobo is the favorite by most foreigners and everytime they are asked what is the favorite Filipino food they have tasted Adobo is always in their choice. Adobo also called Adobar (Spanish: marinade, sauce, or seasoning) is the immersion of raw food in a stock (or sauce) composed variously of paprika, oregano, salt, garlic, and vinegar to preserve and enhance its flavor. The Portuguese variant is known as Carne de vinha d'alhos. The practice is native to Iberia, namely Spanish cuisine and Portuguese cuisine. It was widely adopted in Latin America and other Spanish and Portuguese colonies, including the Azores and Madeira. In the Philippines, the name adobo was given by the Spanish colonists to an indigenous cooking method that also uses vinegar, which, although superficially similar, had developed independently of Spanish influence.]

My favorite native food is adobo. Its a Filipino dish. This can be chicken adobo or pork adobo. Both are simply delicious and tasty. During my childhood I always asked my mom to cook adobo specially if it is served with hard boiled eggs. This is also perfect along with garlic fried rice. And until now I really love this dish.

I'm from Philippines and I have two favorite local foods here. One is called, kare-kare. It's my favorite dish. Kare-kare is one of our famous dishes here. It is made of pork and peanut sauce. Green leafy vegetables are put as toppings in this dish. This dish goes well with shrimp paste. Another local food I want to share is taho. It's my favorite local snack. Taho is a healthy street food made of tofu topped with syrup and our so called sago (the one you see in pearl shakes). It is usually for breakfast. Don't miss these foods when you visit our country one of these days. Enjoy!

My favorite native food is Mutton Biriyani, also commonly known in my culture as 'Kachi Biriyani'. If you don't know what Biriyani is, it is basically rice mixed with pieces of meat. Various types of spices are given to add color and flavor to the Biriyani. It is just delicious!

I like sinigang na baboy so much. In Bisaya, we don't have sinigang but we only have nilagang baboy(pork meat), baka(beef meat) or manok(chicken meat). When I tasted the sinigang for the first time, It was weird for me since we don't cook sinigang in our province but as soon as I get to know the taste of sinigang, I'm loving it more. I also like to cook adobo na manok and baboy.

We live in a multicultural society. We have many local foods that I'm spoilt for choice. My favorite local meal though is chapati and liver stew. Many people don't get this, but I absolutely love this meal. I can eat this meal all day, everyday. However the irony is that I try to avoid it at all costs because of its high wheat content. Wheat has is the worst type of carbohydrate which I try to avoid at all costs. I indulge in it occasionally on my cheat day and I have it for all three meals.

I'm from America, bI was born my grandparents are from China. I like so much Chinese food, especially how my grandma prepares it. Some of my favorite dishes are chicken lo mein, dan dan noodles, mapo tofu, and the rice n all its forms, with vegetables, meat, pork, or chicken whatever. I try to steal some tips for cooking a perfect rice dish from my grandma. She cooks rice in a rice cooker. I bought it too, a small one because I live alone. I have read a lot of reviews from https://www.thewindupspace.com/best-small-rice-cooker/ to choose the best one. Without a good rice cooker, no way to get tasty rice.
