Have you ever made a website from scratch?

Has anyone of you made a website by themself? There are many tutorials and videos about making sites like codecademy etc. where you can learn HTML and CSS and other languages. Have you ever tried to do this? I have used some page for learning that but I think it's not that easy to make a fully functioning website on your own.

I have made a Wordpress website from scratch yes. While building the site itself isn't necessarily hard the problem is that website building is hardly about the website itself only. You got to have a grasp on SEO and HTML concepts and they do start to overlap at one point and that's where it gets tricky

Hello PedroP.

Already, you have delightfully made many people be reminded of the notion that Wordpress is a great way to make website pages. This is even more so true when you have someone who can greatly guide you and coach you step-by-step through the process, as website development can be extremely unpleasant and frustrating for someone who is trying to make a decent webpage, yet who are struggling with the Wordpress process. Also, you nicely put the facts about SEO and HTML; very thoughtful.

I wouldn't say that building a WordPress site can be considered as building a website from scratch because it is a content management system that allows you to have your own website or blog. Building from scratch means that you built every single aspect of your website including the templates and the code. With WordPress, you don't really do any of them.

Ok, you are right there. The point that I wanted to make is that it is always harder than it seems. People see a website and think "hey that's cool let's give it a shot" when in reality things are hardly ever that simple and the final product doesn't reflect nearly half of the total amount of work put into the creation

Back in the day I use to build websites with wordpad and html. Having said that why on earth would you want to do that now when wordpress can create a perfectly good website in under 15 minutes? I guess if your thinking about nastgla sure, but I wouldn't recommed building a website from scratch these days.

I have learned HTML and CSS when I was in college, but it didn't help me a lot to make a website. It is a little bit hard to make your own website from scratch. I had a lot of bottlenecks, I didn't have any ideas about the design and what features to add. I have found out about WordPress and immediately started to search what is it and what trainings are good. I have found M2media wordpress design and training. I have learned how to make plugins, how to install them. Also, I have learned how to design websites. Strongly recommend.

Well, Wordpress is a really good tool to build a website and the easiest one to be honest. I think that anyone can build a website, it is not that hard, but people who have the knowledge and really good webinar wordpress plugin can make the best websites. You can use that plugin to create eRoom connection on your website. It does cost a few bucks, but if you use it to create a really good website you will be able to get that money back. Zoom is being used a lot in education and even other businesses

If you have enough patience you may do this. I had some courses in university regarding web-design. So, I couldn't say it helped me when I started to work on my own business online. I needed a website with SEO optimization, so the best option was to find the digital marketing san diego to help me with. The guys worked so neatly and accurately. I had a plan in mind but they had done it better than I expected. I have an online store where we sell kits for whitening the teeth. Our product is the best selling now due to SEO work.

It was about two years ago and was an unpleasant experience as in general, my website did not make any money. I created an online shop website of different kinds of candies from all around the world and I do not know why but I did not have any sales and I closed my website in about a year. I used CSS and HTML to create my website and I used liberty font from https://upfonts.com/liberator-font/ and it was my main font for my website. I liked this font a lot because it is was easy to read the text with this font and in my opinion, it was attractive for buyers. I think my main mistake was in advertising my website. I gave my website to advertise to the wrong people and wasted a lot of money on it.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Sometimes I have to deal with web design even though I'm not good at it. I recently found a source that turned out to be just a godsend in this matter https://masterbundles.com/ And in terms of design, this is my favorite assistant, which helps to improve the quality of any project.

I have been thinking how possible it is for someone to make sites from scratch without being a professional web designer and my curiosity was lowered when I saw things about WordPress and other tools that can assist in making that happen. I've been thinking of creating a website from scratch, but it is something I've not had time to do. Maybe I would be doing so in the coming weeks.

Yes,I built my recipe blog from scratch. it was on a free domain blogger.

I just went online, research and found some tutorials I learned from it and started my site and now I have a beautiful recipe blog.

As a former IT student, I have made a website from scratch without using drag and drop designing sites. It was made possible with HTML and CSS along with any other languages. It is difficult as you will write a code for everything you put in the website even buttons or texts, and personalize them too. It might take a lot of time and effort but it's definitely worth it cause you will have a good and unique web design.

Hi Barida. You may try to create your web page using Google! Heres how:

Note: This article is for the classic Google Sites (no “Publish” button at the top right). Get help for the new Google Sites.

Choose a URL and template
  1. Sign in to Google Sites with your Google Account.
  2. Click Create.
  3. Choose a template. Or, you can use the default blank template or click Browse the gallery for more.
  4. Enter a name for your site.
  5. Enter a URL for your site.
    • Your site URL can’t be connected to anyone else’s Gmail account.
    • Site URLs can only use lower-case letters and numbers.
    • Your URL can be up to 600 characters.
    [/*]
  6. To start with a pre-set background, font style, and font color, click Select a theme.
  7. To give your site a description or categories, click More options.
  8. At the top of the page, click Create.
Note: You can change your template or theme later, but any prior edits to site style or layout will be deleted.

To be honest I have never even thought of creating a site before. Initially I used to think that you have to be a professional web designer to be able to do that until a friend started telling me about WordPress and I was like OK!! But I still won't try it.

I have started building a website and found that the technicality of it is not the a problem, it's rather the content itself and the marketing side. you've got CMS systems to build a full functioning website within a day, but along down the road you gonna have to learn coding.

I'm very interested in that website creating, but I don't know where to start. I know one language only C++, and I hope I can use that language in creating my own site. I'm still learning other language also, to expand my knowledge about creating website.

Sure. I've built 3 versions of our current website by scratch and am currently building the 4th version from scratch. It's not only fun but also necessary because updating your site and keeping it fresh is what keeps visitors and traffic up. Overall it gets easier every time you do it because the more you work at it the more efficient and good at it you become.

Other than content, the aesthetics is also a huge factor when it comes to drawing in visitors and generating traffic to your site. For this, a lot of things need to be considered. First is the concept. As much as possible your web design concept should reflect what your site is about. Second, you need to figure out how you can make it attention catching yet balanced. Third is the colors. Personally, I think you should not use too many. 3-4 should be alright if you are not really well versed in design.

I have just made my website this week from scratch. It's a free easy to make your own website called wix. It's hard at first cause i don't know anything about making a website. But after watching a few tutorial videos and reading, i've been able to make it for about 3 days. I think i made a good one though i don't know if it would pass those who have the knowledge in making a real webiste.Have you ever made a website from scratch?

I have been creating websites since my second year in college and until now. I am a freelancer that creates or design websites for different kinds of business or clients. I used different languages and platforms and I really enjoy the whole process in creating a website which are planning ,documenting, designing, coding, testing, and implementing. In order to create website you should leave your comfort zone because you need to learn different things like editing pictures for banners or background of your website or coding in different languages and other different skills related to creating websites. For me it is easier creating websites from scratch from websites that are already exists or has been already started because continuing websites there are lot of things that you need to know before you can continue and sometimes it is confusing unlike from scratch you know all the information which means you know every thing you need to know.

I have made website from scratch for over like 6 years. And now that these days you have Foundation framework, Bootstrap framework and the WordPress. I think there is less need for the website to be developed from the scratch. That's the thing about the building of the website. It's not worth spending time on the things building from scratch. It'd be only adding more work. And things are a bit harder to control if done from scratch. I think you can use WordPress to speed things up. And it's easier to change design using that. So I think this is the best way to do things now.

I tried with wix.com. But I was so bored that I didn't finish it. The presentation that you need to do was really hard. Then, you've got to come up with a lot of ideas on how to make your website interesting. Well, you've got to dedicate yourself at first in making it. I easily get bored so it's not for me. If someone will convince me more about it and there are a lot of pros than cons then maybe I'll try it again.

Wix and Squarespace are two good sources. I'd not recommend them for the business website though. Because those two are just landing page based websites. And they have good designs for the same. I guess if you want quick designs then this can be a good site. But the cost wise getting your own domain and the wordpress is good idea. I have tried these options and finally decided to move with the wordpress. For me that works.

I want to try but I find it complicated to do. Yes there are tutorials on youtube and other video site but I guess you must have a little knowledge on that field, too. Maybe if someone will teach me personally, I will able to make my own website. I read in some forums that it is a good way to earn online, but I guess this is not for me.

I did tried to create one for our small business here using a free website. It is a little bit frustrating for me because you need to be creative also and I find it difficult also when you're using a free website because your templates are limited in your design. But that's what you get for free, simple and basic set up. if you want to get more for your website, hire some professional designers and buy a good domain.

I made one when I was in high school. It is part of our computer subject. It's true that it is hard to make one but when you start to put focus on it and have passion on your work, you can make like a well-known site. We want to publish our own made websites but we need a small amount of money to publish this. I enjoyed making one and you should try it too.

Yes i already tried at our school i am a college student taking up Information technology. our teacher want us to build a website from scratch somehow a mid range website with buttons designs and link to other websites and for me i find it easy just remember every code you learn from the HTML because HTML is the back bone of the website structure.

Actually, no, I have not. So far, I have only used paid and free templates where you can enter your original content and manipulate the look of the site and where to place ads, links, widgets, etc. I guess I could study how to do this, but I would rather pay someone who is qualified to do this under my basic specifications. I just don't have the time or resources, right now, to put myself through information technology school, so to speak, so I will be using places like Word Press or my own web designer in the future for my website projects.

I had two blog sites on recipes at blogger dot com. I do not own a website yet, was planning to buy the domain name at Godaddy but waiting for the offer of $0.99 cents, now the price is expensive. I heard that after I have bought my domain name, I could change my blog into my own website, so I don't have to retype everything.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yes, that is true. It is quite easy to do as well. I have previously had a free blog on the WordPress website but then decided to turn it into my own domain since I wanted a .com name. I didn't have to retype anything because they automatically transfer it there. But just in case, do save all of your work and make backup files ;)

I never tried creating website with scratch because i'm only creating with my own code. I am interested to work with the website but i am concern to forget what i learned from manually creating website. This is good idea for those who wants to create website who does not know how to write codes because it is very a user friendly website. This helps to create easier with less time spending. There are built in templates and themes where in you can choose whats best and what you think will satisfy you and your visitors.

I'm actually developing my own website from scratch at the moment. It's going to be a gaming platform/social network and it will be coded with Python and Flask with an HTML and CSS front-end. Everything has been coded by me and it's almost finished actually. I hope to release and open the site by the end of the month actually. Before that, I had never actually built my own site from scratch other than creating a simple site with HTML and CSS.

Yes, I have made several websites from scratch in the past. I even helped my friends make some because they lacked the knowledge. But nowadays that we have good website building software such as WordPress I prefer simply using that to build what I want to. I get a custom domain, get a hosting company and simply install the WordPress on there. It speeds up the whole process quite a lot and there are great plugins/add-ons that let you fully customize it to your vision, easy Have you ever made a website from scratch?

Well, I'm actually trying to. I am still in the process of designing it and so I haven't published it yet. It's cool to make your own website may it be for business or for personal satisfaction. Starting one though is a tedious job and it really will eat up a lot of your time.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

That's the one problem with any type of project I guess. It does truly take up a lot of time and even more, if you are coding an actual website and not just doing some basic HTML and CSS code. Because then you have to take time to figure out how to do things and somethings things can go wrong which can take even more time since you then have to figure out what the problem is and then find a solution for that particular problem.

Me too, I did probably try making one from scratch but it's so hard for me definitely it's because of my study background but I did study HTML and CSS on the internet, it's like an online course and I think I did pretty learn something but it's just not enough for me to make a website from scratch.

I have designed and built a website from scratch! But it was a very rudimentary HTML + CSS website created as an exercise for one of my beginner online coding courses. It's not that hard to make a website with links and basic CSS design, but I've always wanted to build a professional website complete with one of those modern-looking landing pages and animated drop-down menus. Unfortunately, I believe I would need to learn more than HTML to get that done.

I don't know HTML or CSS, however, I have created many websites. When I create websites, I always choose wordpress because it is easy to create wordpress website and you don't even need programming knowledge. Install wordpress on your domain, choose a theme based on your website niche, add few plugins and customize your website.
Currently, I am working on a wordpress website for a client.
However, without any knowledge on HTML and CSS, I always feel insufficient. Therefore, I am thinking to learn programing.

Speaking from my own experience, having the knowledge about the subject doesn't guarantee that you'll do a good job. Building a website is a job that requires, in addition to knowledge, a lot of attention and patience (and this is certainly not for everyone).

A message to all,
After I read all the comments above, I feel like I was totally behind. Honestly, I do not know how to create or design websites. Though I am eager to learn but I do not have much time.

Yet, the good thing about joining in this forum is that I learn new things by just reading comments. Like today, some here is mentioning about “WordPress”, “bootstrap”, CSS designs, etc. so to be able to have idea about it, I do the research and it helps me to understand on how was websites has been created.

Still I am looking forward to learn more about "technology world" so that the next time if there is discussion like this, I can connect and give ideas that will help others.

Well I can certainly make one from scratch but I'm really not that code geek so I prefer to use free content management platform particularly the one you can get at wordpress.org. I've already made one although I lost interest about the site about a year ago. Too bad I just let it expire and the domain name that I bought has already had a five figure price on the market. Although I'm planning to make another one in the future as I enter another online business venture and work on it hard.

WordPress and other templates have really made it easier for anyone to launch a website. Nowadays, you don't even need to be knowledgeable in programming to do it. You can create a website in minutes, and with less technical knowledge. Many eCommerce businesses have taken advantage of this.
