What is Your Favorite Warm Drink? (Especially in Winter)

There are times when a delicious warm drink does wonders to uplift your spirit and make you feel better. But especially during the winter season.

Do you have a favorite warm drink that you really enjoy and that you enjoy even more on a cold winter's day?

~ Coffee (includes latte or capuccino)
~ Tea (matcha tea, chai tea? Be specific)
~ Hot cocoa or hot chocolate (with spice?  with toppings?)
~ Chicken broth

I am always on the lookout for drink recipes. Right now hot chocolate tops my list for favorite warm drinks in cold weather. But I found a warm drink recipe at a health blog that just might boot hot chocolate out of its Number 1 spot. It's so pretty!

Check it out and tell me what you think?

Well, when it comes to warm drinks, green tea is the king for me all year round. Whether it is Winter, Summer, no matter the season, I always enjoy a nice hot cup of green tea.

That being said, there are definitely some other drinks on my list. Particularly during the holiday season, I really enjoy a nice cup of hot wine. The good thing is that you can just take some cheap wine, add sugar and spices to it, boil it up and it’s instantly delicious!

I also like to just pour some hot chicken broth into a mug and sip on it during a chilly winter morning.

I read in a book that during the 17th or 18th century after a woman had given birth they would give her warm wine with medicinal spices to help her rest and regain her strength. Obviously, you wouldn't need to drink hot wine for that reason (LOL What is Your Favorite Warm Drink? (Especially in Winter)), but do you have a special blend of spices you put in hot wine?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

DenisP
Haha! Well that’s a fun fact, but I’m pretty sure that back in those days hot wine was used for like everything. It was a really popular drink for the longest time, going back as far as the Medieval ages.

Anyway, I can’t say that I have a particularly special blend or anything. I usually just stick with the fundamentals. I take a 750ml bottle of red wine (typically something cheap, as you don’t need a quality wine for this, in my opinion), and add about ¼ cup of honey, the juice and zest of one orange, a couple of cloves, two cinnamon sticks, and one whole star anise. Bring it to a gentle simmer, and keep it on low heat for about a half hour to an hour.

It’s fantastic to drink before bed on a chilly winter evening.

Early today I drank warm milk during breakfast. I was eating pancakes and I opted to pair it with milk instead of coffee. I like milk with my pancakes because I can roll the pancake and dip it in the warm milk.

Warm milk is actually another good choice that I completely forgot about. I prefer warm milk over cold milk too, because I feel that warming it up brings out the flavor and slight sweetness of whole fat milk.

Hot cacao is also best made with warm milk. Plenty of people use water but I think those people are either on strict diets or just crazy, haha! Hot cacao tastes so much better when you make it with warm milk instead.

I agree with you. I prefer to drink warm milk than cold milk. I tried cold milk once and I did not like it. Maybe if the cold milk has other flavors like Ube milkshake then that would be amazing.

I love milk. However, my favorite warm drink is hot coffee. I can drink 3-4 cups of coffee per day but I opt to take 2 cups per day and sometimes replace it with milk. I remember the time that I stop drinking coffee for about a month because my girlfriend is health conscious. But she later allow me to drink coffee but only those herbal coffee.

When it comes to warm drinks, I have a lot of favorites to drink. I love coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and milk. When the weather is cold, I drink hot drinks thrice a day. I will try the different coffee and have some cookies as perfect snacks.

Coffee and hot cocoa are my go-to drinks during cold weathers! It feels so nice huddling on the couch, clutching a steaming mug of coffee or cocoa while wrapped in a thick blanket and listening to the soft beat of the raindrops. It's the perfect setup!

Just finished my cup of hot Swiss Miss, the plain milk chocolate variant. When it's nearing December and the mornings are cold, I really like to drink hot milk chocolate, it's so thick and creamy and so delicious.

It hasn't really been that cold yet for me to crave hot chocolate. A couple of the other commenters recommended Swiss Miss specialty flavors that I am curious to try. But I was at my local grocery store the other day and didn't see them on the shelf. So I'll have to shop around if I want to try them.

I tried drinking hot tea especially the chai tea. I used to live and work in United Arab Emirates where there is a winter season but take note that there has no snow there but a very cold weather and there has also a huge fog. That chai tea was our coffee break drink and I liked it very much.

I agree with you. Drinking chai tea is good to drink. I also love chocolate drinks.

Careful is the key to enjoy whatever drinks that we would like to. But of course who would like chocolate drink, everyone does except me. I am controlling taking sweets now and I see the results in my body now.

That's nice. I hope you achieve your health goals. I don't necessary like chocolate that much. I actually prefer vanilla. But I do enjoy cold chocolate mint drink. So minty and fragrant. How about you?

I appreciate that. Yeah I am on my strict diet. I removed sugar and taking too much salty foods. I also not eating too much calories. I do fasting as well.
Yes I do chocolate drink too. It is nice to drink.

Its good that you are on strict diet. Avoiding too much sugar and salt is good. Fasting is also a good help.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mark8625
Yeah I stopped consuming sugar and salt as these are not good for the person who is doing diet. I do intermittent fasting. I just started 2 days ago. Kinda hard but I need to continue this.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
Intermittent fasting seems really good. It's an effective way to manage weight and achieve healthy living.

And yes, everyone enjoys chocolate drinks. I'm glad you do too.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mark8625
Yeah it is very effective and as early as 4 days I can see the difference in my body but yet it is very hard as there are so many kinds of food here in the house that tempt me to eat.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
I can relate. Temptation is the biggest problem when doing diets. Just trust yourself.

Know that you can overcome your cravings the longer you stick to your meal plans.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mark8625
That is right. All you need is focus on what you are doing. It is very effective if you will drink more water on it.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

That's a good way to do it. Water is essential for detoxification. It also helps us lose weight since it regulates our bowel movement.

Drinking hot chocolate is great. It tastes so delicious. It gives you extra energy also.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
It's nice for the really cold weather. Though, I don't drink it that often. I prefer warm fresh milk. How about you?

It's weird but others seem to think that milk is only for the youngsters. All of us need calcium from drinking milk on a daily basis.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

jeffreyjose48
Milk is not just for youngsters. It is for good for everybody. Calcium is necessary for strong bones and teeth.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
Yes, that's what I hear from milk commercials. This is sad because lots of elderly folks experience bone related problems. Especially, in having a weak backbone.

So let's drink lots of milk every day.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

jaybee19
That's true. A lot of senior citizens nowadays complain about back pains and knee pains and I believe that to be able to not be the same, I should drink milk and other foods that has lots of calcium. However, the problem with the stigma about Milk being only for youngsters is I believe to be caused by parents not giving milk/not pushing teenagers to drink milk because when they reach past their childhood, most teenagers don't like to drink Milk anymore. Also, I've read about an article that says that the Milk we drink from childhood are not going to be very beneficial to us as adults and so a lot of experts recommended Milk drinks for adults like the Bear Brand Adult Plus, Anlene, and etc. to name a few.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
That's interesting. Lots of people have varied opinions on the benefits of milk. But I like what you shared about milk specifically made for adults.

It's true that the nutrients we need change as we age. It's kind of like those special formula for elderly people.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

jaybee19
Exactly. Our bodies change and some of our cells die and so our needs change in order to cope up with those changes. I am not actually a professional about this topic but I know that the Milk that small children drink have nutrients that cater their needs for growth hormones and of course calcium for the bone growth. However, I believe it's a bit different for the adults because the formulation will be for the bone strength and calcium but not for the growth hormones anymore.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
That's funny. I imagine how it would be awkward if you suddenly grew taller because of drinking kid's milk.

I've also done some reading about formulations.

Apparently, baby milk isn't compatible with adults. They're too packed with nutrients that don't go well for older people.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

jaybee19
Exactly. Thinking about it makes me a bit uncomfortable tho, I can't imagine myself growing anymore because maybe, it's inappropriate for my age lol.

Really? I thought it was just about the growth hormones that our bodies reject anyways that's why we can't drink children's milk anymore. However, I guess fresh cow's milk doesn't have any age restrictions so maybe we can still drink that as adults. But I'm not very sure.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

superlicca
I like to drink milk especially those brands that have flavors. Some kinds of milk have vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry flavors. They are really great and fun to drink. I think these are also perfect for the kids who don't like the taste of milk.

Not into chocolate drink. I used to drink a lot of it and also soda and coffee but I stopped it because I am doing diet and needs to focus on that.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
I know, right? Drinking soda and chocolate can make you gain unnecessary weight. Especially, if you drink it a lot. It's also not good for people with high blood sugar levels.

I'm sure it will payoff after a few weeks time.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mark8625
Yeah I am seeing the result of not consuming soda and other manufactured drink. I am very much excited to see more results in the coming weeks.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I'd be excited too. I remember when I lost a lot of pounds through the help of proper meals and healthy food choices. I was really happy. And fortunately, I didn't get sagging skin after weight loss.

You're welcome. That's actually a good mindset. Only you can help yourself become fit and healthy.

The initiative comes from our own determination. If you start with that, then you're likely to succeed.

Very true. Always think the benefits of the things that we do and what are the benefits that we can get there in the end.

It's okay to have cheat days. It gives you the chance to enjoy certain foods.

I live in the Philippines, and yes, I live in a tropical country. Thus, we don't experience winter here. But, even though we have sunny days, we also have rainy days, and during those days, we feel so cold. Plus, there are also places in our country that are so cold, especially during nights and in the morning like where I live in and we always want to drink hot chocolate and coffee. I've been drinking fresh ginger and turmeric tea for 2 years now and it's health benefits are outstanding. It does a thorough cleaning of your organs and promotes cardiovascular and respiratory health. I haven't had any cough or colds since I started drinking it. also it strengthens the immune system and some even say it's very effective in lowering down the blood pressure.

It's quite easy to prepare, just cut up some ginger and some turmeric and boil for 2 minutes in low heat. You can drink it hot or you can mix some organic homey and refrigerate it for a cool refreshing drink. I like to take it very hot without any sweetener.

Hot cocoa or hot chocolate is my favorite drink all the time. Sometimes I love hot milk but to compare both, I would really choose hot cocoa. Just like I mention before from previous topic I mentioned the sikwati or the tablea drink. It's very delicious, this tablea is the product from province of Bohol, Philippines.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I like hot choco made from tablea. We use only tablea that is originally produced from cocoa because it is tastier. We used to mix it with coconut milk. But consuming products with cocoa should be moderated because too much intake will result to high blood pressure.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

edencaga
We don't mix it with coconut milk but we mix it with condense or creamer. I didn't know that too much intake will cause you highblood pressure so, thank you for that info as my mother used to drink a lot of tablea. I will tell her as soon as I can talk to her.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Sometimes we also drink tablea with a creamer. But since I was a little, my mother used to prepare it with coconut milk. Sometimes we also make our own tablea because the one that you can purchase on the store that is on a sachet is not pure. Pure tablea makes real tasty chocolate drink.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yeah, you are right. We usually buy it whenever one of our family members or relatives visit my father's province which is Bohol. We also purchase tablea in the near market but you can really tell the differences as its more tastier when you purchase it in provinces because as what you have mention, some are not pure tablea when you buy it here.

I live in a tropical country and so we don't experience the winter season here. However, during the -ber months (September, October, November, and December) we experience the wet season and there's always a typhoon or heavy rains. The surface becomes cold at those months and my favorite warm drink for those months are either 3-in-1 coffee or hot choco. I'm actually the cheap drinker type so I only drink Nescafe 3 in 1 or Milo Chocolate Drink. However, I discovered Swiss Miss recently and I guess it will become a regular drink as well for the coming months where the temperature becomes cold.

I like drinking tea especially at night because it is healthy but, during cold months I prefer to drink hot chocolate or soup. But honestly, any hot drinks during cold days will do, as long as it is available at home.

Hot chocolate is and always will be my favorite hot drink. The only other hot drink I even like is tea, and hot chocolate tastes a lot better. A nice glass of hot chocolate in the winter is a great way to end the day.

We're on the same boat here. I'm craving so much with hot chocolate and also vanilla milk. Yeah you are right, hot chocolate really suits when it's winter or rainy days.

I prefer ginger tea with lemon and a little of honey. It is soothing to my throat and I feel warmer especially when the weather is cold. I feel that my airways become loose, thus help me breathe freely.

I really like ginger tea when I'm not feeling well - it does wonders for digestion and nausea! I've also heard lots of people who are pregnant and have morning sickness enjoy ginger tea for those same reasons, since it helps them not to feel as queasy.

I enjoy drinking hot coffee even if the weather is not cold. I love how it makes my tummy feels hot. I drink around 4 mugs of it daily. Aside from coffee I also drink hot green tea when I feel so full from eating. I like hot chocolate as well but because I try to cut sugar or sweet as much as possible, I cross it out of my hot drinks list.

How I wish we also have a winter season. We get to wear several layers of clothes and be fashionable with a scarf and all those kinds of things. But sadly, we don't. The closest we can get for cold weather is during a day with a typhoon, where flooded streets and traffic jams are everywhere.

To answer the question, a warm chocolate drink would definitely make me feel okay on a cold rainy night.

Part of me thinks it would be so nice to not have to deal with winter! I live somewhere that gets a ton of snow during the winter, and it can be such a pain!

Sometimes it sounds nice, and dressing up all snuggly with boots and scarves can be fun - but it does get frustrating after a while and you just end up craving warm weather!

That's it. This is also a problem in our country. When there is rain, people crave for sunlight. When there is sunlight, they would crave for the rain.

Is that so? I'm not aware that such things do exist. I guess I'll rephrase my comment then by saying I would only like to experience it for just a few times then travel back to a tropical country that is winter-free haha.

Hot choco is one of my favorite drinks to get at a coffee shop around the winter season. So a hot cup of the stuff fills me with cheer. Sometimes an easy way to save a few bucks is making my hot choco at home.

I want to drink hot choco also. But I don't like to mix it with sugar. Its fine with me to drink a sugarless hot chocolate drink.

Some people like cold coffee. It tastes more better than the hot one.

Vodka, specifically Grey Goose. I'm serious, whenever it's cold at night when I'm writing, I would get a glass and pour some Vodka in it along with some 7-up or Cranberry Juice and I would take a sip while writing. It has a heating effect on my body. I'm actually drinking some now and it taste really good.

Haha, yes! Vodka (or other alcohol) definitely does warm you up. I never thought to drink that as an alternative to coffee or tea, but now that you mention it, it makes complete sense.

I find the ginger and garlic soup lot more tasty. And it can keep me away from the sickness of any sort. And on that note you can see that I also prefer to make use of the corn and other soups. I have not made any form of pumpkin soups of sort. So I'd say that winter is a good month to test out soups.

I also love soup. Chicken noodle is a favorite for our family whenever someone is feeling under the weather. I also really like potato, bacon and leek soup - it's a good, hearty filling soup. Pumpkin soup is good too...especially if you have some crusty bread to serve with it.

I have yet to try the pumpkin flavors on my own. I may have to learn those. I think noodles based variety is a bit different though. Because noodle based specific soups need to be properly boiled. I mostly try the thai version of those soups but overall I'd say that some specific soups have local taste and they are way better that way.

I haven't heard of that kind of soup. But I love the benefits that you have mentioned, so I might try this one.

You can check out ginger and garlic soup homesteading. This soup has simple recipe. I do prefer the chicken stock or the shrimp stock. As that tends to give you some more taste. And overall a good option for those who want the soup during the rainy season.

Is it weird that I still want to drink cold beverages even though it's winter? My favorite drink would be chocolate drink, cold is a must. It's relaxing and comforting to sit on your bed drinking your chocolate drink while watching a movie or reading a book. That's kind of situation I wanted to be in.

Many of my friends feel that way too - they always still get iced coffees even in the dead of winter. I even have friends who love ice cream when there are several feet of snow on the ground!

I think if the cold is not that strong then surely people want to eat something cold. I know few people who eat icecream and some even go for the soda which is cold. Each person has different taste though. It differs from one person to another.

I have an online friend who said she likes to put red pepper in her hot chocolate. Do you add a spice or spices to your warm drink? The drink suggested in this discussion mentions saffron.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

The only spice that I add in my drinks is cinnamon. That is a spicy chocolate drink.

I don't mix the spices with desert or say chocolate type of drink. That just adds a odd combination in taste bud. Not sure if that is even healthy in such case. I'd however use the saffron, pistachio and other desert specific toppings.

Me too. It's really odd for me as well. What I like is chocolate mint flavored drinks. I serve it cold. This one makes me feel like it's the holidays. I even drink it throughout the rest of the year.

I haven't done that. I guess it's a culture thing. Kind of like how certain countries such as India are in love with spices. But there are people who simply enjoy adding red peppers to pretty much anything. Though, overdoing it can damage the liver or other parts of the body.

I was perusing a list of hot drink recipes and there is one warm winter drink that I love! I can't believe that I forgot to include it in my list about. Even though you may not like the drink, you'll love the smell that wafts through your home. Wassail. Have you enjoyed this drink?

What is Your Favorite Warm Drink? (Especially in Winter)

What is my favorite warm drink during the cold weather seasons? You’d think it’d be an ‘it depends’ question, but for me I have one single love, one definite reply to this question. From Starbucks, a good cup of hot caramel latte. No foam, please. Oh, it’s absolutely heavenly. That’s the only way I can think to describe it - heavenly. When I take my first sip I smile at the warmth that cascades down my throat, and I feel infused with heat as the drink fills me up inside. It’s a thick, rich, sweet drink that never fails to bring me satisfaction - like, life is good when I’m drinking a tasty caramel latte.

My favorite warm drink is obviously tea, and during any time of the year.
The best way for me is to drink green tea and combine it with honey (which I eat with a spoon, and don't put into the cup).
You should try it, it's feels delicious how the sweet honey is washed down by hot green tea.

That sounds really nice. I'd like to try it sometime. I also enjoy green tea. Though, I drink the one with milk added. I think it's called a milk tea. I'll try adding honey to see how it tastes.

I love drinking hot chocolate, or if not tea especially ginger tea with honey or coffee it depends on my mood actually. I do drink it near my window and sometime I do contemplate on what I should do with my life.

I like how you described it. This reminds me of those coffee ads and commercials where the person is always contemplating something.

Come to think of it, we actually do that a lot. We're often staring blankly at an open space while drinking beverages. So funny!

I love drinking hot chocolate as well! There's just something about hot chocolate that instantly make me feel so warm and fuzzy inside. It's like all my stress and all my aches disappear with just one sip of hot chocolate. It's the perfect cold weather drink for me.

Just a simple coffee with milk and sugar then I'm good to go! Coffee is my go-to drink. At times, I also like drinking warm dark chocolate and strawberry flavor to give it a twist. It depends on my mood. I experiment sometimes. But I prefer hot drinks than cold drinks.
