5 DIY Life Hacks to Keep Cool With This Summer

Well summer is definitely here! Well it is for me anyway and right now England is having a bit of a heat wave. And everyone is trying to stay cool, relaxing in the shade and drinking cold drink and doing what they can to stay as cool as possible! And if you're looking for some life hacks to stay cool this summer, here's 7 life hacks to stay cool with!

1. DIY Air-con.
5 DIY Life Hacks to Keep Cool With This Summer
This one is a really old trick but it works! All you need to do is get a fan and put several bottles of frozen or chilled water in front of it. You can substitute the bottles for frozen ice as well. Get a bowl and fill it up with ice and put that in front of it instead. The cold air rising from it will get blown by the fan and be twice as cool as without it!

2. DIY Cooling Face Mist.
5 DIY Life Hacks to Keep Cool With This Summer
You can make your own cooling face mist by adding either some mint, lavender, rose oil or even cucumber to a spray bottle topped up with chilled water. The water doesn't have to be chilled, these herbs and even cucumber contain natural minerals that have a cooling and soothing effect. However popping them in the fridge for an hour or the freezer for 10-15 minutes will make them even more cooling. Just spray onto face for a quick cool down squirt at home or out on the go.

3. DIY Ice Wraps.

Ice cubes wrapped in a tea-towel or something else like muslin or j-cloth or even a clean sock or t-shirt then wrapped around your wrists or ankles or even around your neck will cool you down FAST! Try to place it so that it's somewhere where you have a pulse such as your wrists. Another thing you could do is soak a sponge in water, then place it in a sealy bag and then freeze it.

4. Eat Something Spicy!
5 DIY Life Hacks to Keep Cool With This Summer
Believe it or not, one of the best ways to cool down is to eat something hot and spicy. This is because they make you sweat which lowers your external body temperature. You can try a nice chicken masala or other curry or a spicy chilli or chilli bean soup. The same applies for drinking hot drinks too. Instead of having a cold drink, try a nice hot cup of tea or coffee instead, it will cool you down much faster than an ice lolly will. This is because it raises your internal body temperature so your external body temp feels cooler.

5. Get Fruity!
5 DIY Life Hacks to Keep Cool With This Summer
Try this. Freeze some fruit in your freezer such as grapes, strawberries, sliced apples and pears or melon or banana slices etc. Then just add them to your drink or eat them straight from the freezer! You could even freeze them in ice containers in ice as well.

Okay so there's 5 DIY life hacks to keep cool this summer! I hope you'll like these and make good use of them for cooling down with!

Hey Mike to be honest what I would love is just to have aircons put into my house haha.

Ok so one nice thing about our house is that it is all tiled and we have high ceilings, plus we have a back door and a front door and our home is open plan. Our back door opens onto the beach and we get a cool breeze coming off the water usually even on the hottest days so my best hack is to open both doors and it creates a cool breeze right through the house and I sit in the middle LOL.

Ok so not everyone has this wonderful sea breeze like me.. so my favourite here is the frozen fruit option. Yummy, fresh and cool. My worst one here would be the spicy food. I am the kind of person that gets ring sting if I eat spicy stuff, if you know what I mean? So it might cool me off for a bit but it will have other nasty repercussions.

I knew about that thing with the hot tea! It really works, I've tried it this summer, but actually drinking hot tea in the heat is pretty uncomfortable and I personally started sweating a lot and as soon as I finished my cup I felt pretty cooled down.

I have actually tried that 'air-con' thing that you have said. But that's not really how air condition works as far as I know. But I have this mini fan cooler or whatever you call it. It has a compartment at the bottom where you can fill water and put some ice and put it back, like a drawer. Then it has a exhaust tube at the top which then will be inhaled by the fan and voila! Cold air. Hehe

I have tried #1, but in a different way. I hang a wet cloth in front of the fan and when the fan blows air, it will pass through the wet cloth and air will be cool. I found #4 very interesting. I love to eat hot and spicy food during the hot summer months. However, I did not know why I loved. So. by eating hot and spicy food, I was unconsciously trying to cool myself. #5 is my favorite, I eat frozen fruits during the summer.

I think having a garden also helps. In such case it can be keeping the weather around the house cool. And that's something I would love to watch as well. I have seen that summer can be cooler in many ways. But some of the time things are not that great for many people. And so having garden and water stream working during the summer is definitely work. Also having the proper AC system can be good enough. But there are times when the temperature can be so much higher. We just don't know what to do with the climate system these days.

Wow. I never thought that eating spicy food can help to you to cool down. Thank you for this good article, I would definitely try these during summer. But one of the best of course is to drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration. Those fruity ice are really cool when you put it on water and will add a little flavor.

I think fruity ice is indeed a good concept. I am glad that OP shared it with us. I wonder that face mist is something known tip or not. It seems like it is being told in many ways and places. Seen many articles where it was shared.

I must say that the times the weather get cold are the periods I wish does not exist for it always make me get flu with it and that's what I hate. I appreciate the tips you gave on how I can handle those periods. I remain grateful for everything.

These ideas are awesome! i knew the one with a fan but it has never occured to me to freeze fruits. I also had no idea about soicy food cooling you down, I always thought you have to eat cold things (or don't eat much). I have some face mists but I have never put them in a fridge, I will have to try it out.

This website right here has a trick to freeze fruits using the aircon coolant pipe. It's of course only doable during the aircon installation process.

All the ideas are probably awesome and almost effective. Like the No.1 hacks which is to make your own Aircon, I've actually love doing this kind of things when your in midst of summer where you feel so hot and feel like your in an oven and building a DIY Aircon is probably a good and a must idea.

We are in summer over here and it's really hot. I have always avoided to eat spicy foods in summer. Now I know that eating such foods may benefit me. Those D.I.Y ice wraps is really a wonderful thing. I want to try this one. The D.I.Y Air con will definitely provide relief to people living in non air conditioned houses.

Nice and interesting hacks. Helpful because I live in a country that is crazy hot 6 out of 12 months.Definitely going to try the DIY-Air con.

My attention is drawn to the eating of spicy food hack. It may seem unreal to some people but I somewhat agree. I've worked in a town that is dripping sweat hot. The locals solution to cool your body temperature is to have hot tea. I was doubtful at first. It really works though. Better than cold water, I have to say. I understand the correlation with spicy food.

Well, living in a tropical country means living on summer all year around. So, basically all those tips are common thing for us. We usually have fruits and beverages in our freezers, eat fresh veggies and cold tea for lunch, and wear very lightweight clothes. Also, we use sunblock everyday, our houses are painted in light colors, and kids go to school from 7 am to 12 noon, because heat is almost cooking us everywhere. Oh another tip, bring an umbrella with you everyday, you will be fighting sunlight and surprise rain commonly.

Eating spicy food and drinking cold fruitshakes would be on top of my list. It's so hot here right now, it's getting hard to write. And it's only the start of summer, I need to endure 4 gruelling months of heat until rainy season takes over.

To be honest, I used all of those tips when my AC was broken. That was this summer and i remember those hot days when I was sweating and swearing that aircon of mine. I was trying to fix it by myself, but I did not manage and made only worse. Don't know why I was not asking help from the specialist's that were able to fix my AC in an hour. The next day I called the repairman from socool.sg He fixed all the issues I had with my aircon in a couple of minutes for reasonable money, I definitely should call him earlier.

This summer I was lucky to have a conditioner in the house and in the car because I was going to die from so much heat.

A few years ago I didn't have a conditioner and it was very difficult for me. My body is very pretentious and I can't stand the extremes of heat or cold. For this reason, I often go to warm countries in winter to rest, so as not to feel the enormous cold.

The only problem is that last week my conditioner started to break down and I got scared. Good thing I found aircon servicing and they removed the problem. Now everything is perfect again.

Guy, the best lifehack for a really hot summer, is getting a good air conditioner, and using it all day and all night, 24/7! However, the 3rd point, made me really ... curious. I mean, eating something spicy actually might help you in a hot day? I actually love spicy food, I love it, however I do not really think that it might work. Yeah, I am sweating while eating something spicy on a really hot day, however it never makes me feel better. So, guys just trust me, read the best home appliance reviews and get yourself the best air conditioner that you find.

There may be plenty of reasons like air filter is broken, a filthy condenser loop, broken compressor, damaged thermostat, or a small size aircon. Some problems are not that difficult to solve, for example, to fix an air filter you just need to clean it because there is dirt gathered over years. Other problems may need total replacement of some inner parts of ac, like a damaged thermostat ( it’s a device which signals when to start cooling and when to stop, depending on the temperature in the room ). I had a like problem but I just decided to give it to a complete diagnostics to affordable aircon service Singapore, real professionals in this field. It’s much better to save your time and nerves, doing so, than trying to solve the issue on your own.
