Propane Vs Oil Heating Which is better and why?

When buying or renting a home how do you choose whether you should go with propane heat or oil? Oil is more common but as we all know comes with a lot of maintenance. propane on the other hand burns cleaner and requires little to no maintenance. Propane is also 10-15% more efficient than oil and is cheaper nine out of ten times. Propane put about 25% less C)2 into the air than oil. Propane boilers are also quitter than oil. Few years ago we rented a house that used oil and i remember burning about 150 gallons a month in the winter. I am excited to see how much money we will save using propane here at the new place. What experiences do you guys have with propane and oil? Which do you prefer and why?

I am in South Africa and honestly it doesn't get that cold here. Yes in winter we may have a few chilly days but nothing too bad.

For keeping warm we usually just dress warmly and maybe wrap ourselves in a blanket while watching tv in the evenings. I did have a gas heater a while back that used LPG gas and it worked beautifully to heat up our home in winter. I only had to have it on for about half an hour and the heat would stay for the evening.

Wow thats awesome its so cold here that we have to have the heat running all the time. We keep it hotter at night and during the day its off or low 60's. Its really expensive to heat a 2 floor house, thats why we loved the fact that this house is propane. Its so much cheaper price wise and also maintenance wise. If your someone who cares about the environment you would be glad to know its also healthier. Thanks for sharing

Hi all. I used oil radiators installed in my garage, and I can tell you that they gave excellent heat but took a long time to warm up. I also had to change the oil as it soon got a specific smell. So I decided to change the radiators and used cheap radiators on my friend's advice and was very satisfied. Now my current radiators are warming up, and I don't have to worry about breaking them.
