Writing an eBook -how many words and how many pages

Ok so I would love some guidance here.

As I have already mentioned here I am busy writing an eBook about my experiences in active addiction.

Please give me some feedback here. I am not writing a fluffy eBook that will have big writing and lots of spaces...

I have written 12 pages so far and a total of 7000 words.

This consists of 6 different chapters with each chapter being one incident. I have a good few more incidents that I need to write about.

I just want to know how long you think a quality eBook should be? How many pages and how many words. A full page is 500 - 600 words.

I think the Ebook length really depends on what your writing. In my personal opinion i would like to see it about 30 pages and maybe a 2 part book would be awesome. Really digging into these issues can touch people and make them relate and feel better by reading what your writing. Its important to get it all in and not water it down so much. If it was about something regular i don't think it would matter so much. This story is more than just a story its your life, your road to recovery . I am really happy that you are writing this book and i hope that it continues to be a breeze for you. Thanks for sharing and i hope my comment helped you.

However, I do understand that you're not going to write a book like this, but I thought it could be a fun thing to compare to anyhow.

I think my last ebook was about 16,000 words in total. Including the copyright notice and everything. And yeah, you've read it Lynne, so you know how I presented everything. I honestly don't think that I could have done it in any other way than I did, as I wanted to include everything. That being said, I also had a forewords .pdf that was 2000 words. So all in all, about 18,000 words.

However, I could probably have decreased the amount of words and the number of pages if I didn't used all the images and so on, but I didn't thought about any of that during the time I wrote it. I wanted it to include everything so it came out the way it did.

I would say that I prefer ebooks to be about 15-20 pages long, but it totally depends on the topic and how many images that are used within the book. It also depends on the size of the font. Many authors seems to believe that they can fill an ebook with tons of information to make it 100+ pages long, and that people will buy it just because of that.. But they are wrong. 100+ pages doesn't mean it's a better guide or ebook than a book with 15 pages.

Go with your gut Lynne. That's the best advice I can give you.

Well I'm pretty sure the average novel is 80,000 words but ebooks tend to be in a shorter format, one site compared the length it to an extended essay. So maybe try like a third of what an average novel is in length? So anywhere from 20,000-30,000 words.

OH! what about having a few ebooks....like short ebooks but like 3 or 4...?

Thanks, I will be doing a few yes. The first one that I am busy with now will be stories from when I was using. The next one will be my journey to getting clean and all the hiccups along the way, rehab and all that. Then I want to do another one about life in recovery and relationships.

So yeah those 3 should cover everything I want to say.

The topic of the book determines the length of the book. For instance, you are writing a children book, how many pages do you need to write. My children book was 36 pages long and 2000 words.
I have also published a short story collection on Kindle. My story book was around 50 pages. I think the book should have been little longer, 100 pages would do justice for a book (when I say page, I am not referring to the pages you write for the pages on book.)

I think for most of the fiction books you can go with the length of the 5000 words or more. And this way you can get the people attracted towards the content. As you can see be it fiction, drama and non fiction. it can be possible to have content on higher word counts. And that surely works out as well. I personally think that 10k is something we all need to be focusing on. And if that works out then surely it can be helpful to be focused on that part too.

Actually I was curious about that so I checked and an average book (in English) contains around 60k words. E-books don't have to be that long, I think they are usually shorter so I would say around third or half of that would make a good e-book. 20k to 30k words is ideal (but for sure they can be shorter or longer, it really depends on the book and also on how it is edited).

Well, I assume this day's people hardly have this great attention span to write a book for so long, so I will say writing about 40 pages of a book with about 500-600 long a page should be okay for good readers.I have written a 25-page ebook so I believe to capture the interest of readers, the book shouldn't be too bogus.
