Should i buy a used or new snow blower

Winter is upon us and up here in north country its usually a bad winter. We have an average over over 100 inches a winter and this year i have my own house to maintain. Previously when we rented all of the snow was removed for us. Im curious to know if i should buy a new or used blow. I am going to list some pros and cons and maybe you guys can help me decide.

Pros to buying a new blower:

  1. New blowers don't break down as often
  2. They usually throw snow further
  3. Automated and easy to use

Cons to buying a new blower:
  1. The price is high
  2. More expensive to fix if it does brake down

Pros to buying a used blower:
  1. Cheaper in price
  2. Parts are cheaper

Cons to buying a used blower:
  1. May brake down in the middle of a snow storm
  2. Maybe harder to use
  3. May not be automated

I have given some pros and cons to both new and used blowers. I still cannot make my decision. Winter is upon us and the snow is going to start falling soon. Any advice is appreciated guys. If you enjoyed the topic please don't forget to like it.

having so much space here, makes it hard to just wake up and shovel some snow....you might be there all day long with the driveways and walkways we have.

to me, anything used has potential BUT you dont know how it was taken care of....was it maintained properly? was the right oil and gas used? does it even run?

with a brand new one, you know everything is brand spanking new and will last you the whole winter. i guess thats just the kind of risk you have to take...but if your handy enough yo fix things yourself, a used machine could be a good buy!

Those are the questions i would have to ask the person selling the machine. The thing is how do i know if they are lying or not? Everyone around here is either hooked on heroin or prescription meds and they will say anything to get more money out of you. Its sad but the fact of the matter is that its true. I recently saw on craigslist a blower with a new engine? lol how the hell does someone do an engine swap on a blower? They are just trying to sell it at a higher price. I wish i knew how to fix them i could make a killing around here. not only would i have a nice blower for cheap but i could fix and resell them.

Personally if I can afford it I like to buy something new. In the past when I have bought used things it has always turned out badly for me and landed up costing me more money than I would have landed up spending on a new one. The major difference here being that if I had bought it new I would probably still have a using item but when you buy a used item that gives problems there is often no point in continuing to try and get it working.

Maybe I've just had really rotten luck with used goods, but from what I have experienced I will always buy new if I can.

Hey i really appreciate you taking the time to put in your 2 cents. I agree with you buying new will cause me less problems in the future. I will have to see how much i can make this month on Seoclerks and Listingdock. The main factor will be my financial standings when im ready. if i have the money i will buy new if not i will have no choice but to buy used.

I would definitely go with a NEW snowblower, and for good reason. Would you buy a used chainsaw, or a used mower? Often at times there is a reason why it's "used". A lot of the times, I never have any luck with "used" things that people either try to sell, or rent out and yes including houses, and cars.

Typically what occurs to me is that it seems to have way more problems than the new things. Unfortunately, you could also end up buying something and it could be a "lemon". Meaning it may look new, and was never used before you bought it but it could be broken already, a part could be missing, or the entire thing won't operate.

Thanks Everett I value your opinion. Yes i agree with you some people will try and get rid of their junk as used. I do own a used lawn mower and i will admit i have not had many problems with it and it works very well. The problem i run into sometimes is that it takes awhile to start or may shut off during mowing.. Now in the summer, spring, and some of fall don't mind having to start the mower again and again. We live up in north country white mountains region and it gets negative 40 up here in the winter which is pretty cold! Could you imagine the blower shutting off? When your moving around its one thing but standing in one place pulling a pull start could be a freezing job. Plus i have to take my gloves off to get a good grip on the pull start. That is the only beef i have with a used blower if it works great then fine but if not im screwed lol! I just need a good blower and i don't have 600-700 dollars to spend on one. I hope that the snow is not to bad this year but we will see! Thank you for sharing your thoughts i really appreciate it.

I would never advice buying a used snow blower, in fact I'm not a fan of any used product or commodities. I normally see it as a useless investment buying a used product. There is no fun in it for. In trying to save small amount of money by buying a used commodity which ends up spoiling on time and making you needing to buy another one.

Brand new snow blower is perfect, I definitely believe that you would enjoy it more using a new one than having an already used one as your buy.

New blowers don't break down as often, this is the only reason that counts to buy a new one, but a new one is more expensive than buying a second-hand blower of snow. If I would be in your place I would buy a second-hand one because this machine is not something that you must use all over the year, you will use it only for a couple of months. In this way, I would save money for something else!

I'm a big proponent in buying everything brand, shiny new. A snowblower in particular is something I don't have any use for but if I did? I'd go NEW. I mean when a big snowstorm hits, and you break out the equipment because you really need to use it. The last thing you'd want is for it to fail you. Then you'd really be in trouble. You'd be out money, and have no way to remove snow.
