Word Games to Increase Vocabularly

I rather enjoy playing board games, or versions of board games online. Some of my favorite games to play are word games. I love words... their variety, their ability to express nearly anything, and all the possibilities they hold. My favorite word games are Scrabble and Scrabble Boggle. Scrabble gives me the chance to see what words I can create with just seven letter tiles and the space/words already on the game board. I really try to extend myself and see what is the largest word I can create. Scrabble Boggle challenges my mind to think quickly and identify different words with a handful of available letters. I like that you can connect the letters in so many different ways to create words, which really stretches my thinking. The way these games increase vocabulary for me is when I play against someone else because they see or create words that I just didn't see. I love when I have the chance to learn new words. Do you like playing word games? Why?

You are right, word games are very good for mental development and increase your vocabulary. To tell the truth, our parents always played with us in the game Erudite where you had to insert letters into cells and guess the words. It was really a very interesting and rallying occupation. Now I learn my children to play crossword puzzles. We can unravel them for the whole evening. Indeed, sometimes we met such questions to which I don't know the answers by myself. But there are some useful services that we use to courage crossword clue easily. It's a pity that in my childhood there was no something such.

I agree that word games such as Word Cookies are great app games that kids and adults could increase vocabulary and spellings too. My son who is 10 years old plays Word Cookies daily in order to complete the levels. He even used the cheat website when he runs out of ideas. Although it is not right but he managed to learn new words and even look up in the dictionary for more information.

I love playing Scrabble. I was introduced to the game as a kid by my uncles and aunts. My parents were not really a fan of board games. I did manage to learn a lot of new words by playing the game. It was great that our school allowed us to play in class as well. Nowadays, I rarely play Scrabble due to lack of time. Are there any great online Scrabble games?

As an elementary school teacher I love using board games in the classroom as a way for students to learn or practice their skills. The best part is that it is fun for the kids, so they don't necessarily realize how much they are learning. Scrabble is a great way for them to stretch their brains and practice making words. Another game I like to use is simply "Making Words" as it's called. You provide students with a set of predetermined letters (simple printed letters on cut out paper works) and challenge them to make as many different words as they can with just those letters. For younger kids, you can walk them through the first few by telling them what letters to put down, then telling them which letters to change to make new words. For instance, spell cat, now change the letter c to an s to spell sat.

Yes, I'm teaching English to school kids and this is a great way to learn. Sometimes they have doubts about the words they are making, so that makes them go to the Dictionary and learn it properly. In my case, I use Boggle and it works perfect. They feel they're playing a game, but they don't notice how good they are learning a new language.

This is a great way to teach kids vocabulary. I know I had a lot of fun when I was younger just playing word games, and definitely playing games was much more fun and engaging than just sitting still and listening to lectures. Sometimes I might be more in the mood to just sit quietly in learn, though, to be completely honest, but having alternatives like playing word games and doing projects where I learn application was also great for my own education.

I absolutely agree that word games are amazing for expanding your vocabulary. I actually have Scrabble in my closet and when my friends come over, we play it sometimes... along side Monopoly Word Games to Increase Vocabularly I really love that you have to think on your own and create words that you perhaps didn't even know you had in your head. I have learned many new ones through playing.

I also have an app on my smartphone called "Words With Friends" and that game is really great. It allows you to play online or with your friends. I'd recommend you give it a try if you like word games in general.

You are actually right word games helps a lot to improve vocabulary and also sharpens the brain, although i stopped playing scrabble many years ago but i must confess that when i was playing the game my vocabulary and spelling skills were impeccable.
And it is also important in second language acquisition for people finding it difficult to keep up or grasp their second language, word games is a perfect stepping stone and sharping edge in second language acquisition.

I also like to play word games. I played some of the childhood's common word games and also I have played some of the newer ones, such as those that can be played using the computer or a mobile. One word game that doesn't just help with my vocabulary but also my sharpness and agility, is the game called Typer Shark. It's a light game and also a flash game wherein you will be pressure to input all words correctly as time decreases.

I totally agree that playing word games would definitely;y improve one's vocabulary. Through this game, we are able to encounter new words and it will help to exercise our mind. I usually play word games on my phone during my free time and it does help me gather new words and meaning. I seldom find myself using words in a sentence though I am perfectly not sure of the meaning itself. However, I strongly believe that it's right to use the word in the sentence. Isn't it funny? Then I figured out that the word am using is the same word that catches my attention when I was playing word games on my phone.

They do definitely improve and increase your vocabulary. We have a game over here in the UK that helps to improve our vocabulary, I'm not sure what it is called unfortunately but basically, you have to throw some dice (or die). You then get some letters so let's say the three dice land on "A", "E" and "P". You have to pick a card from a deck as well that has a category on it like "animals". The players then have to say a word that has all the letters and fits that category. The person with the word that has the most letters including the letters on the dice wins that card. It then continues until all the cards are finished.

I do love word games, though I never really actively played them just to increase my vocabulary. For the most part I just play them for fun, but of course the fact that it makes me better at English is a major plus as well. I used to love playing Scrabble and Boggle too, but my favorite was always that game where there would be a bunch of letters laid out into a square shape and you'd have to find full words within. I always liked that because it mixed my love of word games with pattern recognition which I absolutely love.

This is basically the benefits of of playing word games. Scrabble is an all time favorite for most of us specially during our childhood years. And the best thing about this game is it is still widely played even today. Whenever I would play this game, I always have a dictionary beside me. Word Games to Increase Vocabularly

I too love Scrabble. Also, although it is a bit lowbrow, I like playing Cards Against Humanity with friends. This might be a bit old fashioned, but I still do crossword puzzles online, and these can also expand your use of language and vocabulary. There are a lot of free crossword puzzles online that one can play, and I do the USA Today one on a regular basis to keep me semi-sharp. Still, nothing beats reading all of the time to beef up those language skills.

These are the kind of games that our younger generations should be playing. I mean one that adds to them. It ain't bad playing soccer on play station but something like this should take more priority.

I always jump at opportunities to play games like scrabble, word puzzles etc. I wouldn't mind reading more recommendations.

I was introduced to the game of scramble while growing up by my parents then because both of them always play it. I was able to improve my vocabulary by playing the game while growing and it is rare to see me write articles without adding the words I learnt by playing the game of scramble.

It has benefited me that much and I am hoping to marry someone that plays board games as well, so we can easily pass our knowledge to our kids

The games I played to increase my vocabulary are Scrabble, Text Twist and Bookworm. Scrabble is also my past time so if I don't have any work, I'll get it and challenge my three other self. I enjoy playing it and also it increase my vocabulary. Next is Text Twist where there is one word that is jumbled and from that word, you will think other words to increase your points and reach the next level. The last is Bookworm where there are letters in your screen and you must find words and you will use that words to move on the next level. There are so many games that can increase your vocabulary but for me these three is the best.

Scrabble is one of the best word games that I used during my high school years to improve on my vocabulary and word formations, its fun to play as well as the challenge it gives to construct new words and having to look them up in a dictionary to confirm they exist.

Word games are good for improving your memory, at the same time growing your knowledge of the English language. I would recommend them to all for fun and educational purposes.

My child and I loved to play scrabble on our free time. It enhances our vocabulary and at the same time I have been using scrabble to introduce new words to my daughter. We also loved doing crossword puzzles and most of the time we collect crosswords puzzles from newspaper clips. with this new past time, my daughter finally opened a dictionaries and thesaurus which she had never done before.

Scrabble is a good game to increase vocabulary also boggle. I used to play a lot scrabble with my friends a family and I have to admit that I learned a lot of words with these games. It is better if you play it with people who are older because they know words that you didn't even know existed. That helps you a lot.

I can't really recommend any games for increasing just one's vocabulary but I find many quizzes on jetpunk interesting and great for learning new things. I like the ones about countries (locating countries on a map, learning their capital cities) and the general knowledge quizzes because they are literally about every subject and you can learn a lot from them.

The first thing that comes to my mind is scrabble. It's a great way to increase your vocabulary and to have fun with your friends as well. I believe that games are not the best way to increase your vocabulary. I think a better way to do that is to watch a lot of movies and TV shows, listen to music, read magazines, newspapers and THE DICTIONARY! But if you really want games, then check out Secret Word, Picture Word, Word Funnel and Hangman.

Absolutely yes! I am still playing word game but not scrabble. I easily get bored playing scrabble. I prefer Text twist created by gamehouse. It was really a fun game since it has a timer that you have to finish to guess the word asked so you can proceed to the next word and if you failed to guess after the times up, you will do it all over again starting from 0 score. Here in the office we play that during break time. We agreed that we have to beat the top score and I was the top 1 for 1 week now.

I have been playing word games ever since I was a kid and they are my favorite. I remember playing scrabble with my mom, dad and siblings during my childhood and it was so fun and enjoyable. I have to agree that I learnt many new words while playing scrabble with my family. I have installed games like Wordfeud and snap attack on my phone and I do play them every now and then. I still play scrabble with my nephew and niece and this has improved their language skills.

I've only played a few word games in a computer during my childhood it was "hangaroo" if I'm not mistaken. it was fun specially playing with others , but to increase a person's vocabulary I would prefer a different method well since I'm not a native english speaker I suppose it would be better for me if I were to converse with someone with a wide range of vocabulary words for me to learn some of them.

I could say that I've also learned a few vocabulary by watching U.S. series and movies. the important thing in learning is to enjoy first what you're doing Word Games to Increase Vocabularly

I think the best word game for me is Scrabble. In Scrabble, you are forced to expand your vocabulary in order to gain points in the game. It's also an amusing activity for the family and even your friends. I easily get tired of other board games such as "The Millionaire's Game", "Snakes and Ladders" and "Uno" but I will never ever get bored of Scrabble. It's a classic! Me and my family like it a lot. We usually play it when we are all at home. Who do you usually play Scrabble with? Do you only use the official Scrabble dictionary or do you use any kind of word book?

I only try playing Scrabble. Many or maybe almost all of you know it and have been try to play it since it's very popular. I'm not really a fun of word games in board since it takes a lot of thinking and almost all of the time the game is silent. I wan the game but I hate it when your opponents are taking it as a life threatening situation and produce a long time silence, it really bores me. I know that a player can take all of the time given but for peace sake, try making a move faster, it there's really nothing, then a pass is possible. But I enjoy playing it.

Those are the apps that I have currently in my phone. Yes, I do love board games. It's as if I am gaining something that can't be bought to anywhere. That I could learn even though I am not at school. That I can still be productive in just for few minutes. That I can be a better version of myself. I know that a person can't be measured based on their vocabulary skills but this is also a tool in everything we do. Interaction, explaining yourself, or codes (LOL). Imagine writing your own essay with words that are strange and unfamiliar to the minds of others? That's an ego booster. It's also a training for your brain. An exercise that will help you and your future.

I tried some mobile word games and it's a little bit fun. Well, I don't really enjoy these kinds of games since I want more action but I still enjoy playing it for a brief period of time. I think it's about more or less 2 weeks that I am playing a word game and I am continuing to play it. There are many available mobile word games that are free in playstore today. Even the famous scrabble have an application version of it. There are also many kinds of new type word games that are more complicated than the previous ones. Four pics one word for example, is really a new type of a word game that is incorporated with images. It's hard to play this and really brain damaging but it is fun to do.

I play word games but I play offline most of the time. I play it with my nephews and nieces. My favorite word game is Scrabble. We have a game board of it that's why I play it offline most of the time. It's another fun brain activity for me aside from chess. It's indeed a good way to enhance vocabulary. I tend to find words that include the challenging letters there like Q, X, and Z. Placing those letters on a double/triple word or letter score is so rewarding. I also do the computation of our scores so I practice Math and vocabulary skills at the same time.

Word games is very helpful to our vocabulary in fact they are the one who helps us to learn new words. Word games are generally engaged as a source of entertainment, but have been found to serve an educational purpose as well. For instance, young children can find enjoyment playing modestly competitive games such as Hangman, while naturally developing important language skills like spelling.

Word games are the absolute best.Especially for children. When we were small we used to play a lot of scrabble, and this i must admit contributed to our good vocabulary. I've seen also with my children that the more we play the better they get at spelling and reading. This is a good way to get children to improve their vocabulary while having fun.Because of scrabble i like to read and discover new words. I would recommend this to any parent.

Sometimes I also use <!--td {border: 1px solid #ccc;}br {mso-data-placement:same-cell;}scrabble word finder so this fact offers me even more opportunities so that I am always in continuous development and finding out new things.
Next week I registered for a contest in this field and I hope to win because I really like what I do and I'm glad I have such a hobby.
