Has Google officially won the browser war?

So as of January 2017, Google Chrome browser was used by 44.5% of internet users. The second most used browser? As popular as Internet Explorer used to be, it has fallen behind Safari. Which is preferred by 25.4% of internet users. IE is now third with 15.5% of internet users preferring it. Firefox is 4th with 7.5% users. So has google officially won the browser war? Right now I'd say they definitely have.

I would say yes and the reason is it just flat out works without having to struggle to find what you want on the internet. I know Microsoft wants to promote bing. But bing is a terrible search engine, I honestly think that if microsoft use google as a search engine more people would probably use it. Most people simply can not be bother to go to google and then jump through hoops to change the search engine.

I'm not necessarily sure if people would use Microsoft's browsers just because they've changed the default search engine. You're definitely right that, for starters, Google as a search engine is a thousand times better than Bing or just about any other search engine out there. However, I think it's about more than just the search engine. Chrome is simply a better browser in general. It is more stable and easy to navigate. I can probably count on my fingers how many times it has crashed on me since I've used it. Internet Explorer on the other hand? I'd fill up a notepad with tally marks trying to keep up with how many times it's frozen and crashed.

I agree. Internet explorer is one of the worst browser that I have tried. The speed of IE is no compare to google crome. I remember the time when I used to search on IE and it will take seconds to load a page, it is very slow. Then came this mozilla firefox, at first they are good, later it turns out like IE too, it keeps crashing every once in a while. But with google chrome, it is fast, simple, and easy to navigate.

I agree that google is a lot more stable and more user friendly than internet explorer. But there are a lot of people with computers that don't know any different and still use internet explorer. Especially true with the elderly.

Bing is really annoying search engine. It does not meet your satisfaction for searching everything you want. I agree that google had already the tittle to be the best search engine nowadays. I can't imagine something that will replace google cause google gives you the best experience in internet surfing. Google will always be the best most especially if we talk about web browsers. Google is number one compared to other search engines.

I would say yes Google has the edge now compare to other it is the most popular browser now.Google Chrome has just passed Internet Explorer to become the most popular desktop web browser. It’s nice that everything is shared where ever I use it.Chrome has many excellent features, but the browser's popularity grew so
quickly for one primary reason marketing Google has invested a tremendous amount of money to promote its own browser. Like TV commercials, banners ads. Google's strong marketing strategy for Chrome certainly contributed (and continues to contribute) to the browser's success.

I've been a user of it ever since it has emerged from the net and install on my own desktop. Since then, I've never relied from other browsers although there are other browsers that I've installed on my unit in case something goes wrong with chrome. Well I've used them from time to time although its been a habit already to use a faster and much lighter Google Chrome compared to other browsers who take up lots of resources that made my desktop perform slower.

I agree. Among all browsers they are much faster to use even on dowloading files. I also have other browser on my laptop which is mozzilla firefox, but its performance is not as good as google chrome does. They take too long to load and oftentimes crash in the middle of searching. Even on video playing, google chrome is much better.

Firefox is in second place for me. It is probably the browser that I would use if Google Chrome did not exist or if it had some problems with it. I have never had any problems with Firefox to be fair. I know that it is not at all as fast as Google Chrome is and Chrome is definitely a lot better for a lot of things especially when you are watching videos online but it's not too bad. It's definitely good as a secondary browser.

I like to use google browser, but I always not really wanted to use it, because it consumes a lot of memory just to run it. I really hated it when my browser suddenly crashed when I only about to use 5 tabs in a single browser, it's really a memory consuming. Apparently, people always love to use google chrome, because it always searches quickly and efficiently. It is only the matter of fact when people wanted to look opportunities using google, because of it always prefer a lot of websites.

Even so, Internet will be always unpredictable when it comes of progress. The users be always the basis of everything, and that is the conformity usage of search engines. The only different is the user always blind to use by any chance to use it.

Yeah, chrome is a well known ram eater, as of the time I was using them, it will leap through all the ram, and leave your system lagging most times. That's why I uninstalled it on my low ram system, and installed Opera mini. Both it's looks like they have fixed the issue, with the latest version.

Firefox is 4th most used browser, with 7.5 percent market share? Really?
I am a firefox user and I am so much in love with this browser. When I began using the internet, I used internet explorer. When firefox was introduced, I immediately switched to firefox, since then I have never used other browsers. I have tried safari, chrome, opera, but always used firefox. I did not know chrome had 44.5 percent market share.

Chrome is default on Android and also on chromebook. And considering many people have good performance with more than 10 tabs at the same time. I think firefox lags on the memory side. So that's why firefox is losing the market share every day. And with low RAM performance there does not seem to be a good market for the firefox anymore.

Maybe the stats related to chrome is not very true. All the members of my family (me, my wife, my parents, my siblings, my siblings family) are using an Android phone. On android phones, Chrome is the default application. None of my people use chrome to check internet, however, they have chrome on theri devices. Not the stats also include these users in its 44 percent market share.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

True possible. I think it depends on where this stat is collected. My guess is that mostly this is US only stat. And we being outside US. It's possible that such type of stat may not apply. And it can be even worst when it comes to considering the numbers in the stat. So that's something to consider and worth learning from.

Its only your opinion my friend and nowadays some ratings are biased and you can't rely on them. Firefox is powerful and you can say that it is number one for you because you never tried others like google where in you will or may experience a lot better than you current browser. The thing also why chrome is the best because of its search engine online which brought them a lot of popularity. Remember that each application has a lot of versions where in changes are made every updates which improves the performance and satisfaction rate. I tried Firefox one time it is good and light to ram usage but chrome is much better because of its accessibility.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

It's too early to say that. Because google has the market share in the Chrome does not mean they won the war. But firefox is now selling the data to the data companies. And that's a bad thing. So we have to understand that it's possible that google will remain on top for time being. And even the best part about the google is that it may need some level of govt intervention in this case for the browser security and privacy.

Google Chrome is the first browser I fell in love with when I got my laptop in the winter of 2015 and since then, it has remained my number one browser for so many online activities that I perform. So, I think the statistics are somewhat right that Google is growing from strength to strength.

I like Google Chrome as well. Its powerful features can be seen and used whether you're using a PC or mobile. It's the best browser for me because it's user friendly and I think as of now, no browser can replace the number one spot where Google was in.

In my personal opinion yes Google has officially won the browser war. It was expected as this to happen since Google is the more powerful on the market right now, they dominate the Internet and most of the users on Internet are using Goole search engine, and not only, Google dominate from all the aspects and they will become more powerful in the next years!

It's too early to say. you can see that vivaldi is soemthing that is been into the game too. And Microsoft edge seems to be getting some users. So it's not completely over yet. Also firefox seems to be steady. So not going to let the chrome win the war. I am guessing slowly this will help out for sure.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

DenisP
Google has without a doubt won the War of the Browsers. You can ask just about anyone with a computer, "what browser are you using?" and if they are even relatively tech savvy the answer is most likely going to be Google Chrome. Most people still using anything else probably don't have much computer experience, at least from what I've seen. Even my grandfather who is 70 years old uses Google Chrome instead of Internet Explorer after I introduced him to it. The fact is that it is just the best at what it does.

I definitely agree with you, like it's the demanding browser search for any internet users but other than that it literally depends to people or the person who uses the internet. People do have different taste in terms of food, gadgets and of course in the worldif web like you can't forced someone to just used a chrome and be happy with it just like that. People will find what best suits their needs.

There are still IE users out there just not many of them. But IE will always be around because anytime you get Windows for your PC, you have to have IE installed for system stability. It doesn't have to be the latest version of IE. For example I am still on IE 8. But you need IE at the system core regardless because Windows won't work without it. The best you can do is make Chrome your default browser. But IE core files still need to be installed as long as you use Windows.

What I also like about Chrome is the updates come automatically. I don't agree with all of them though. For example, font and icons have gotten a lot smaller with each new version of Chrome but you adjust eventually. But every new version of IE needs to be downloaded if you don't have Windows updates running.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Were they apps and extensions that were from the Chrome App Store? If not then that may be why it wasn't working properly. It's always best to use apps and extensions that have been uploaded to the Chrome App Store as they all tend to work perfectly with the Chrome Browser. I'm surprised to be fair because I have quite a lot of extensions but I have never encountered any problems with Chrome.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Me too have used the Google Chrome. You can see that there seems to be more demand for the browser these days. And the extension and the support for the browser is more from the Google Chrome. So that being said it seems like they will continue to do better. And it may just require more effort for the people to switch from Firefox. So that's the thing about the browser many people don't know.

Most current Firefox or Safari users are loyalists. I think they use Chrome still but not as much as they use Safari or Firefox, or prefer those two browsers. Also, many public spaces such as libraries have Chrome as their only browser in their computer labs. Which helps its popularity also. Years ago, IE was exclusively found in most internet cafes or libraries.

I think chrome market got increased because of the Google and the Android. If it were not for android not many people would have switched to it. I have seen more and more switching to the Chrome. And they seems to be working on the small details in that case. You can see that Google has worked really hard to gain the popularity. I'd say it would in that case too.

the big winner of all the browser and even on all search engine. They are most popular among the search engine that people even say "google it" when they want you to search for something. They are being the winner for many years now. I love browsing to google chrome because it is faster than other browser, before, I use mozilla firefox but I always encounter problem using it so I switch to google chrome and since then everything went smooth. I can say and it is very obvious that they definitely won the tittle. Google chrome now is the best browser so far that end users wants to use. Even in surveys or in normal usage of people you will notice that they are using the chrome browser. Whats really good in this browser is that it gives you the best experience of browsing and internet surfing unlike the other browser which would not satisfy you because their are lags still and would not meet your expectation. Based in current standing, i think no one could beat the record of google chrome and i am proud to say that i am a chrome user. IE will always hold a special place in my heart though. When I got my first rig (PC), IE 6 was my preferred browser. That was back in the AOL days. I'd alternate between IE for projects and AOL for leisure. MSN was in the mix too. I was around 17 then. As the years went on, I stuck with IE and MSN. AOL started going down and eventually went out of business.

MSN started changing too much visually and their technology was stagnant and antiquated. So they fell off also. Chrome was a godsend because it was a good looking browser that was efficient and effective. IE I always felt was a decent browser? But Microsoft never put in the work on a real fun, great looking design. Always ugly, even the skins you could download for it were hideous. Now I just use Chrome for everything.

I used to always have Chrome and Firefox installed. But now that I have Windows 10, I just use Microsoft Edge as my secondary browser. I will always have Chrome, I just cannot use any other browsers because it is what I am used to after years of using it. Plus, it is quick, never has any problems and looks good as well. Add to that the fact that my history and details are synced with my Chrome app on my phone and it's amazing. I only ever used Firefox (and Edge now) to test out my website and see if it is fine on other browsers as well.

Literally everyone I know with the exception of a few people use google chrome, just because it's simple and efficient. The design is minimalistic enough to be comfortable for everyone and one of the pluses of Chrome are all the extensions it has. Damn, is Firefox really 4th? Behind Internet Explorer? I'm really shocked and I can't see why because for me personally, Firefox is right behind Chrome in terms of quality, speed, responsiveness. I'd definitely rate IE the worse browser but hey. I do think that Chrome has won the war a long time ago and the percentage of users that use it will only increase over time. I am not surprised since I have been using it almost exclusively for years now and I absolutely love it. The best browser out there Has Google officially won the browser war?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I think Firefox is just 4th because it doesn't have the marketing and financial power behind it that IE does. IE has so many different types of backing. TV commercials, web ads, Microsoft itself, new Windows releases, etc. Good ole familiarity also plays a role. IE still has heavy name recognition. It's usability though annoys people. Hence why it's fallen so far.

I think it was always defaulted that, the google become a default browser, as a user we have no other choice but to use it. Another factor of google is the fast efficient search engine. The way it searches huge amount of data is easily accessed by the use of their neural network technology. They always rely on to the high technology engine management AI system, and this is why they are more effective search engine. When we talk to the whole browser, I think it is not true that, the Google dominate the whole internet search engine, I believed it will be tor browser 90% of whole access including dark web.

There are many hidden sites are not available to the public unless you use protective internet protocol like tor browser can provide. Speaking of access, people always look another way to protect their IP like they protect their identity, for any security reasons.

Yes they did! I saw somewhere a gif with maps with how the most populat browser in each country changed. There are some countries that use Opera more (Germany probably?) or Internet Explorer but Google is the most useful as you can connect it to your own account.

I'm actually quite shocked that they're people who still use other search engines besides Google. The best thing about Google is that you can narrow your search. For example you can search under Google books. I think so long as you input the right keywords the results are better than the other search engines. It also tries to anticipate exactly what you are looking for and gives you better search terms.

The advantages of chrome are also numerous with Google drive, Calender and Play store. Most people like that package and are loyal to Google because of it. I think Google is still a winner unless something drastic happens.

What 'next browser' though? The only company with the money and clout to rival google is Microsoft. Their IE browser lost to google and chrome. Based on your statistics Google browser is definitely and a sure hit to users like us. Google chrome to be exact is the go to search engine in this time. Many of us use this to find and ask everything from A to Z. This proves that Google has a very excellent User Experience.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I think Google should beware though when it comes to Chrome users. These last few updates have not gone over well with a lot of them. Particularly because Chrome updates things and changes things but doesn't give users a patch or an option to customize their version of Chrome back to how it was prior to the updates. Those of us in business online eventually adjust to the updates but still, you have to take into account the complaints of your user base when it comes to certain things. Particularly important things like decreasing font sizes or icon sizes. Twitter has this same issue, as their font changes earlier this year has rubbed more than a few people the wrong way.

Microsoft is a force to be reckoned with also. I just think Google won the war because they produced a superior product. While their competition either gave up, fell off or flopped. I think IE could still be right there with Chrome. But Microsoft never made the necessary adjustments to IE. The interface remained the same. No colors or smooth redesign. They did a metallic thing in IE 8 and future versions but people just never responded like they would've to a major overhaul. Now they've just decided to abandon IE and move to Microsoft edge. It remains to be seen if Edge will ever register on the next 'Most used browsers' survey.

There is no doubt about that. Statistics or not google has won the browser/seaech engine war a long time ago.

Google has unarguably become the most successful amongst all others in their line of services. The fact that every mobile or communication device comes with inbuilt Google Search apps makes it an even more present evidence that google is number one. Am not saying other engines don't come inbuilt on other gadgets too, but google is more present and obvious.

Personally, I am wary of monopolies but in this case, I think it's happening whether I like it or not.

Well, actually, I like Google search. I have tried using other search engines but I have always come back to Google. True, Google may skew some results with their sponsored search results but I feel that it's more a matter of how we make use of the information. Sometimes the sponsored results contain exactly what we are looking for. And isn't that the whole point of searching? To find what we are looking for? Does it matter if a company has paid Google to show their results before others? There's nothing to stop us from scrolling further down the page.

Monopolies don't come without epic failures though. Many browsers existed prior to Chrome. They just didn't stay on their game. It allowed for Google to come in and steal, then eventually dominate the market. If Google trips up, then the same will happen to them one day. Blindsided by major competition.

The only way to find info on something without google would be to hit the local library and check out some books on the topic. It works sometimes, other times it doesn't. Libraries are a great resource, but google provides up to date information. You may find info at a library inside a book or two, but google could have an article about that same subject published last week that conflicts with what the book that might've been published two years ago, says.

I think that Google is winning the browser war at the moment. I remember way back in college, Internet Explorer used to be so popular. It's been widely used. Even our university is using it. I am so at ease with it. Four years after, Google Chrome started to gain popularity. It's now widely used. I myself use it everyday and prefer it among the other browsers because of its performance. It's very simple to use and it's faster than the other browsers. I find it really convenient. Hopefully they will keep up the good work and improve continuously. Never get complacent so they stay on top.

Yeah google just stole a lot of IE's territory in like a minute. The sad thing is IE never properly fought back. They could've made the browser war at least a little more interesting by showing more resistance.

Google has won the market right before now that the statistics and survey on it came up with their rating, I agree with you on this but I feel the percentage giving to google is more than that, google has everything you can ever think of so why go use another browser.

When I went to the computer learning institute back then, that's when I was waiting on my result to move ahead after preschool, I thought Mozilla was the best I even detested Internet Explorer. I later realized something that these browsers most times uses google as their search engine so that means google was higher than them, google has always showed potentiality right from the one set, the have shown what an how optimizing a browser should be google virtually have every thing. All the assignments and things you want are all on google, like I will always tell my friends"google is the other percentage of our brain that we never used, google has made life good than LG, LOL.

I believe so. Google is such a familiar brand that the word “google” has become a verb used in daily conversations in America. I’m pleased that they use their platform in a socially responsible way (especially in regards to the ways that they change their logo on certain days); they seem to be an inclusive and respectful brand.

Of course yes, I think that Google have absolutely won the browser war distinctly without anything left to prove. Including in other aspects such as SEO and the Google ranking, it seems that the browser and domain is way above and ahead of other internet browsers today.

It's won so much actually, people now want to break up google because they feel it's a monopoly.

Yes, definitely Google has won the war and left all its competitors far behind in the race. Actually, I feel that there was no real big war fought, Google was always miles ahead of all its competitors. Every competitor tried to keep up with the pace of Google but was not able to do it. A completely new search engine with some very fresh and innovative concepts is required now to compete with Google and break its monopoly.

It’s still unclear for me why no one has yet toppled Google from the top of the pedestal for so many years. As for April 2015, the Google Chrome browser kept being a leader with a score of 50.25% of users. And for August 2019, Chrome still leads by a large margin of 64.0%. No one has yet been able to figure out how to catch them there. I dealt with a lot of search engines and browsers, and I’m so outraged that someone hasn’t been able to optimize the functionality and system of this browser. I addressed the same question to https://www.seenlyst.com/blog/seo-malaysia-price/, so they told me that this is all due to the fact that Google doesn’t even give new systems a chance to get around it. What I remember is a special browser for players and streamers where everything is configured according to their preferences. There’s at least some diversity over the past 5 years.

While at the head of Google such a person as now it is simply unrealistic. There are also cases of suspected harassment against him and they can't do anything to him.
