If other players use VPN, do you think it has a great impact on lagging during the game?

I played online games quite a lot and I've been hearing some complaints about the common problem in playing online games which is lagging during the game. Some players say that the reason why they just suddenly experienced lagging is because of the players who used VPN to go to the other servers. I know they might not be a techy person, but it is already planted on their mind.

In my opinion, using VPN does not entirely contributed on lagging, it depends. Well, basically it supposedly has nothing to do with the lag while on game. Hardware and/or Internet is/are the main reason. Low specs and a poor internet connection will always be resulted to poor gaming experience.

I do agree with you with the specs and the poor internet connection being the main reason why a game's laggy. I don't think it's because of the VPN users. Well, I won't entirely say it doesn't affect because I'm not that expert with these types of things but I really think the use of VPN does contribute to the lag.

I get lagging just through my regular internet service which is not a VPN. It is quite frustrating. I don't enjoy it all! Nothing like lagging to make me frustrated, and it is worse when the weather is bad.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

jaybee19
Yeah and I can totally relate with you because I also experience the same with my local internet provider. The internet is just too slow that most of the people here in my country use VPN because it's faster than the local internet we have in our country. And with the weather, it's both worse for us, no matter how good or bad the weather is it would still be slow and it's frustrating sometimes.

I would not really know how to go about setting it up here. I am not sure we have any towers or the infrastructure to support that. I just don't know enough about it.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

jaybee19
It doesn't actually use your local tower to provide it's signal. What it does is to 'steal' internet connection from other countries or hide your actual location. It's actually not that appropriate to use VPN but others just have to do it because of some good reasons. There's actually a lot of tutorials on YouTube and as much as I want to teach you about it here, I don't think it's ethical to do so.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

kgord
I know that some areas have access to set up VPN. I might look at youtube and see what they have to say,l but not sure how much it would benefit me t do so here. If I could do that and save the money of paying for an internet connection it would be awesome.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

jaybee19
You will definitely benefit from it. However, it doesn't always guarantee a faster internet speed and so I don't think it'll be possible for it to be a substitute for your regular data plan. But who knows, just try and I hope it can help you.

Thanks, I will check it out and see what I can find out. It might be worth checking into. I will try to see what is available for me and if I can set it up.

I would advise that you do not ask this question from people online. It's not rude but some people just don't like giving away personal information like that online which is the whole point of using a username. And some people will feel uncomfortable because they don't want to sound rude when saying no.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

DenisP
Maybe I'm a bit touchy when it comes to internet etiquette, but I actually do think it's kinda rude and out of the ordinary. It's one thing to ask someone's real name once you've gotten to know them and are private messaging. I've done that with plenty of folks I've met online.

But just outright asking, out of the blue, in a public forum? Tad bit odd, isn't it? If nothing else it makes me wonder what is the person's motivation. A little paranoid, I know, but it's the internet after all.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

DarthHazard
Not at all paranoid really. In the current age where we have to be careful about people hacking our accounts and using our personal information to gain access to our profiles and money, it's not bad to be careful with what we share online especially to strangers that we do not know.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

jaybee19
Hi Dube. My name's actually Jay and I only added -bee because it's cute. Btw, I agree with @DarthHazard. I don't actually feel uncomfortable but that doesn't mean that others would be as well so I hope you'll refrain from asking others about this kind of questions. I'm more than okay to expose my real name but that won't be the same for others.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

VPN is widely used all around the world by most people for some reasons either to secretly hide their location or any reasons behind it. I believe that VPN doesn't comprise or contribute to lag a certain kind of games because sometime it depends on the specification of a certain gadget.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

aeon
Well, the other reasons is for free internet and speed up your connection. Honestly, I'm using VPN right now for free internet connection, I'm from Philippines, and my location right now is in Singapore and If I feel there's something wrong on my connection and it's getting weaker, it's easily for me to find another connection or change the country, but I'm not a gamer.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

kgord
I don't know much about VPN and I don't have one. I haven't tried to use one so I am not sure how it would affect gaming. I guess it would have to be something that you would have to evaluate over time.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Kakashi2020
I don't really see the logic of using VPN to play games but I do know that lagging has two causes your device and your internet connection. If you use a VPN from another country then I think it would affect your gaming experience negatively, it would definitely lag.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

treecko142
Well usually people use VPNs to gain access to games that are not available in their region yet, especially for players in developing countries or when a game is region-locked.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mitan143
I see. I get your point. It makes sense since what are they trying to prove is the other players from the other countries. I think the developers of that game needs to address more about those regions without no access yet because a lot of players there are too aggressive to find a way just to play it. Thanks, it reminds me something.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

It's totally true! Using a VPN improves lag and reduce ping by using a faster server connection. People or game players who use a VPN overcome geo-blocking and play multiplayer games that are not available when traveling.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Tronia
I have never really used VPN during gaming myself because I don't see the point it other than perhaps hosting a game. I don't think that using VPN will affect the gameplay itself unless that player is chosen as the host. For example; in the Call of Duty recent games, the game itself picks "the best host" out of the players in the team. So if they'd chose the VPN player, maybe it would increase the lag for others?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Lot of uses of VPN. For example, there are some sites like say netflix which are local to specific nation. And if you want to buy subscription for say US based netflix you can't do without VPN. Same with spotify and other services. Lot of content is restricted under region IP blocking. So VPN can help bypass that.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Vinsanity
I may not be sure but based on my experience when my opponent uses VPN I keep on lagging. I have a fast and reliable internet connection and good smartphone specification for gaming. My smartphone got 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM. I don't think MOBA games will lag for no reason especially in my situation.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

overcast
I don't think that really happens. Because opponent using VPN has nothing to do with the game. Things should lag for him in that case not for other gamers. I'd say in such case it'd be reasonable to say that VPN has it's set of the issues to most of the gamers.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Vinsanity
Thank you I have always thought of VPN whenever I get a laggy gameplay. I have also considered the difference in server. The host might have a different server and I might have just transferred in that server where I get lower ping for some reason.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

overcast
VPN does have lag because it changes your IP into some other countries computer. And fetches data twice. So this way you get low speed. But that should not affect other gamers. But only you. If other players use it too, then it willl affect them on their own. Not to the game.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

DenisP
There is absolutely the chance that a VPN is going to cause a person to lag.

Of course it's going to vary on the efficiency of the actual servers, but there are some fundamental characteristics which are almost guaranteed to cause a person to lag. The main reason is the distance between the person and the VPN server. There is a reason why when testing your bandwidth you want to target a location somewhere nearby. Depending on the location of the servers, bouncing information back and forth can definitely end up slowing down the user's internet connection.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

esteban123
I think it is not the VPN that makes our gaming experience to be worst but I think it is the slow internet connection and the poor specification and memory of a certain gadget that we are using. We should somehow try to look on the data and storage of the gadget that we are using so as to prevent it from lagging.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

treecko142
I don't think other persons that are using VPNs cause another person to lag in-game. It won't slow down other people's connection, except for the rare case when the server can't handle the traffic, but at that point, everyone will be affected and will disconnect.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

EfficientNinja
This is true. Unless the one who is using the VPN is also the game server host. This old method of having a player host the game server has been implemented on Garena local games and it was terrible. If the host has a terrible internet connection and latency, the whole game room suffers.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

treecko142
Yeah, I remember those issues back when Garena was still handling some games in our country. Perhaps this is what some people remember when it comes to VPN issues slowing the connection.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mitan143
I see. Maybe that is why most of the online game players right now are blaming other players who use VPN. Thanks for reminding me. Actually, I was wondering why they come up with the idea that VPN is the main reason why lag in the system occurs during the game.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

EfficientNinja
Yup. Old online gaming platforms like these might be the reason why gamers now blame other people for using VPN. They don't know how things work behind the scenes and they also don't know that things are implemented differently now in the back-end.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mitan143
"...They don't know how things work behind the scenes and they also don't know that things are implemented differently now in the back-end."

Yes, that must be the case. I'm just quite concern on how the news about VPN continuously spreading easily until now even though there are people who tried their best to explain the truth behind VPN.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

treecko142
Yep, and most online players are teens who haven't really done research about this sort of stuff, and usually just acquire information from other players, and so the misinformation propagated.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

You're right. Servers are pretty simple. You send request and they respond. They don't care if you are behind VPN. They only care for request and response. That's what they are looking for. I don't think lag is because of VPN. Lag is because servers maybe having some sort of issues.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ballyhara
Using VPN has never been a problem for me, I don't get any lagging about it. I must agree when you say internet speed/connection can be the main reason, so far that's what I've been noticing about it. Also, you can try to upgrade the game or the laptop/pc/device you're using. Last time I had a very bad issue with lagging, got resolved after upgrading my device, then I upgraded the game, and now is running super smooth.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

aeon
If you're using the premium VPN lagging is not gonna be a problem. The VPN will provide you the best and quality IP or internet connection. In our country, even we are not using VPN, lagging while playing online games is still a problem because of the slow internet connection.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ballyhara
So far I've had no issues while using VPN and lagging. However, sometimes when I can't use VPN it seems to work just normal, so obviously Internet connection is the major problem. My country has a terrible Internet service, usually the best moments are super late at night around 2-3 am, and I'm not going to spend the whole night playing, when I have to work the next day. Wish I could have a better Internet service.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

aeon
Yeah, that's right, the problem is still the internet connection. VPN has interval like two to three minutes before changes the IP, that's the reason why VPN is really safe if you want to hide your location. and also it's up to your server. The only problem abut the VPN, some sites not allowed the visitors or users to enter their sites if we're using the VPN.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ballyhara
Oh yes I've been there too, and it's really frustrating to find those VPN restricted sites. I've heard there's a way to skip that, unfortunately I'm not certain about it, but there's some application or program that allows you to do it. However, there's not much to do when you have a terrible internet connection, it can take like forever to do a simple task.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

aeon
Yeah, because it's possibly that, there're so many internet users who also using your IP. I notice that, when I'm using VPN to collect bitcoin from some faucets, the faucets sites always telling me that, my IP already collect the coins.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ballyhara
Exactly, usually that's another way to restrict your entry to sites, by tracking your IP. Those are the moments when I would like to be a genius on hacking, so that I can be able to solve the issue hahaha. Here in my country, there's a way to have satellite Internet, but that's ridiculously expensive. So, I have to deal with the one I have for now.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

aeon
Yeah, satellite internet still expensive right now, i can't afford that also. VPN is very popular in our country, specially by using phone, because it's free and fast. but the problem is your phone battery will easily to get low batt.

That's cool, if you know how to hack, I also want to learn that, but I don't know where to use. that's why much better for me focus on free internet. If other players use VPN, do you think it has a great impact on lagging during the game?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ballyhara
We use VPN a lot too. Obviously not just for gaming, but for internet radio, files downloading, and virtual currency. And yes, batteries die super fast when you use it. I see it works better on cellphones than on laptops and tablets. I know how to solve some issues, but not as good as a hacker, just some info you can find on YouTube tutorials.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

aeon
I'm not using VPN for games also. Actually I'm not a gamer. I'm just using VPN for browsing also, and watching some videos on YouTube and to download some movies, because it's fast and safe. Honestly, I'm using VPN for more than a year now, It's free so, just grab it. If other players use VPN, do you think it has a great impact on lagging during the game?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Vinsanity
I agree with you. They are ruining the enjoyment we experience during the game. With VPN being used plus sow internet connection is a nightmare.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mitan143
Your point really makes sense. Upgrading the device/PC and updating the game might solve the problem from lagging, if your internet is not the issue. Well, I live on a country with a slow internet speed so this is always the main problem for the gamers/players here. But I still doubt on the game because I can feel that there's also some problem on their game's system itself.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

aeon
Somehow VPN will affect the game and cause of lagging. Specially if the VPN user was not using premium VPN and it's just a free trial. Using VPN in a game is very difficult to use most of the time it will disconnected, because the VPN will keep looking for the best IP to use. VPN is not using a single IP or internet connection, maybe about three to five seconds of interval then it will change the IP address again.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

EfficientNinja
VPNs will affect the latency of the one who is using it and not the other players who are in the same game with the VPN user. The reason is that using VPN will make your connection way worse because of added hops in the network before reaching the game server. Using a VPN will put unnecessary hops between you and the game server, thus, you will experience more lags and delayed input.

So it is best to disable your VPN connection if you are going to play online games to reduce router hops.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mitan143
Alright. Thanks for your comment. This clearly explains a lot more on the issue. Honestly, I'm not quite sure about vpn to online gaming.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

From my experience with playing some online games, there is this particular one which I'm still playing now called Top Eleven Football Manager, some players uses VPN to play in order to get some offers that aren't available to them. It's actually against the game rules and regulations, if the users account is detected by the team, such account would be banned.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mitan143
Yes, exactly. Those players will be banned by violating the game's rules especially if it is about cheating. Actually, the game I'm playing today has been banning a lot of accounts that they have verified as cheaters or are violating other rules.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
It's such a shame that when a good game is developed and introduced to the public to enjoy, some useless game cheaters would just make a mess of the whole thing by finding a way to ruin the game with cheats. These cheaters that uses VPN to play would get a team that would be a monster for other people to play against them, thereby making a mess of the competition.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

VPN is being used when you can't play with foreign players. So yes there is a chance that there are some people playing EFM. I think VPN is used for many reason like ban too. Ban often limits some IP from playing. So VPN is handy in such case.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

overcast
I think VPN seems to be something you can find lagging in many ways. I'd say that VPN seems to make things a bit slow. The reason being the tunneling between the internet and it seems like it happens for browsing too. And with gaming the same issues can be there. So that's something I think many gamer and internet surfers have noticed as well.

There's a lot of hype about the use of VPN nowadays but what I can't understand is why are there a lot of YouTubers making videos saying that people could get free internet by using VPN's which has no sense to me. Does anyone of you guys know why people are saying otherwise,?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

aeon
Because that's true. Aside from hiding your IP, speed up your internet connection, you can also get a free internet access by using VPN. If you have disconnected modem you can still access the internet by using VPN.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

jaybee19
Exactly. I don't want to mention which apps/software I know who can make you browse the internet for free with just a VPN but yes it does let you access the internet for free. A friend of mine actually uses VPN to access the internet for free because in my country which is the Philippines, the internet is slow and the data packages are too expensive and very limited.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

aeon
Yeah, You're right I'm from Philippines also, and There're a lot of sites and groups where you can learn some internet tricks, and actually I'm using one of their trick, and it's really useful, although it's the connection is not reliable sometimes, but the good thing is, its free.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

jaybee19
Yeah, that's true. There's a lot of forums online that teach you how to use VPN to connect to the internet for free. However, it's also true that the signal strength is not always reliable but it's okay, at least it's free.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

aeon
Yeah, It's not really reliable, unless you have a premium account. There are a lot of sites where you can get the premium ssh account and it's exclusively for you, the problem is, this is only works for 24 hours, all you have to do is to fill up and register another account again.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mitan143
My friend also recommended me one application that let you browse the internet for free, but it does not include using YouTube. But I haven't tried it yet and I think I don't want to try it either. It seems like giving you an access on the internet from the other country. I'm not quite sure about it but I think it is something like that.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

aeon
Why not included the YouTube? As far as I concern, all the vpn are able to access the YouTube. Yeah, you're right, you can access the internet by using the IP of other countries. Most of the time, some VPN users, using Singapore IP, because it's really fast, and the connection is much more reliable compare to other countries.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I believe this is simply a personal decision as I always look at using VPN to play games as a form of cheat. There are even some game companies that ban accounts on their sites once they discover that such a person is making use of VPN when they play.

However, I agree with you that using VPN to play games doesn't make the device and game to lag as it is just an app that is made to make things easier for people. The issue of device lag can be traced to the low ram capacity of some phone devices and not on the vpn app.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mitan143
Yes, I agree with you that some players who are using VPN is just to cheat and sometimes they use it to break through from blocking the game in their country. And yes there are some game companies that block or ban accounts for more than 3000 years, imagine how long is that. In fact, in my game right now, they are continuously banning players who use VPN and I'm so amazed that some of them are top players and from the strongest teams. just so sad to know though.

Using a VPN improves lag and reduce ping by using a faster server connection. People or game players who use a VPN overcome geo-blocking and play multiplayer games that are not available when traveling. Also, a big advantage is that it makes sure that your data is safe and secure while gaming. When I am playing games and I am using proxies I rarely experience downtime. Of course, the internet connection is essential but also make sure that you have enough memory and specifications on your device to support the game.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Virtual Private Network has nothing to do with the lagging during the game in my own opinion. VPN is just a tunnel or gateway so that nobody will recognize your device or what websites you have access. It is used sometimes to hack wifi or internet connections by professionals so that they can use your signal and you can't locate them in your device. This is only my own opinion and I don't use this kind of network but I've heard it many times.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mitan143
Yes, that is also what I think about VPN to online gaming. But you can also consider this one from Kakashi2020. He has actually a point on this.

"VPNs will affect the latency of the one who is using it and not the other players who are in the same game with the VPN user. The reason is that using VPN will make your connection way worse because of added hops in the network before reaching the game server. Using a VPN will put unnecessary hops between you and the game server, thus, you will experience more lags and delayed input.

So it is best to disable your VPN connection if you are going to play online games to reduce router hops."

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

MittensFX
That is correct mitan143.This is the same thing I said in my respond to this thread. The VPN service will only and always affect the user that is using it.Other users in the lobby should not have the same issue with latency like the user that is using the VPN service.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

albino
That is also possible and true because VPN also sucks signal from internet and while you are playing online games you are also using other networks such as VPN and it will cause lagging on your own personal PC connection and not on others. Because VPN will share some signal on your internet connection together with the online games you are playing so it is very possible that you can encounter some lagging on online games because you are using two services at the same time and the same connection.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

MittensFX
I think the persons that use VPN should have lag while playing.
The person ho is straight up connected without using any VPN service should not have lag at all.
Maybe there is something wrong with your connection?
I highly doubt there is something wrong with the servers while some players are using VPN.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

aeon
Yeah, You're right. They are not connected to the same internet connection, and the person who using legitimate connection will probably not encounter the lagging, and VPN user will affect the game server, only his connection.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

aeon
VPN changes your connection or IP address while you using it, and not all the time VPN can provide better IP address, maybe in 15 mins of using the VPN, almost 50 ip address runs to your connection. If you configure your computer using the VPN you are the only affected of lagging. But if your router connected to VPN, all of the users of that router will affected.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

MittensFXX
Using VPN service should only have an impact on players that are using it.
The rest of the players should have lag-free gaming experience depending on their internet connection and connection to the server in general. It is sometimes best to play on servers close to your region to avoid lag and miss advantage compared to other players on the server.
I think you are experiencing lag problems due to bad connectivity or connection problems in general.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Thanks to your insights. I guess you are right. Yes, I'm already convinced that the lagging system is due to bad connection of the internet but I also wish for those other players who still blame vpn users because the game lags. I just ask about my post because I want to know what really it is for someone who uses vpn and good thing that most of you explains how vpn actually works.

In my experience playing users that use VPN is usually lags at clashing. I play Mobile Legends and it is very frustrating to see their heroes stops midway during our clashing resulting our defeat. I did try using a VPN once to enter another server and lagging really occur sometimes. I really can't blame these players since they like to be team up with to the less cancerous players which is commonly found in our server. However, it is really annoying and stressing for us players to just really like to have a fun game and will just be utterly destroyed by your teammates who lags because he is using a VPN.

Hey there!
Well I'm mostly playing League of Legends, and it's a MOBA. Every lag is individual and not connected to other players. But if you play on a Minecraft server, or a FPS one (for example Counter Strike), then I think you could encounter such problem. Where one player using an VPN can affect the entire server population.

Hey there. As far as I know, it doesn't have any impact on the server. I have a lot of players that are using VPN on my server, hosted by https://ggservers.com , and everything is fine, it doesn't have any lags at all. Maybe it's because I am using a very good minecraft server hosting, I don't know, I am not sure about this. But on my server, there are no lags at all, even though a lot of people is using VPN

This will definitely affect the lag in the game. I had problems with ping because of VPN and then the Internet completely disappeared. It was already too late in time and I could not contact my provider. I tried to connect to any site, but I was told that the DNS Server is Not Responding. Fortunately, my friend knows a little about this and he helped me solve this problem. After that, I decided that I would no longer use a VPN and I really no longer had problems with the Internet and communication

It is very strange because I know most of the games are just banning the players with VPN and this ban cannot be lifted. I think your problem is in slow internet and that's why your game is running very bad. You have to understand that everything that are doing other players cannot affect you. So, jsut oversee you traffic. After I read the https://vladtalks.tech/vpn/how-to-...ss-vpn-proxy-tor I've also started to use a VPN and it was strictly said to me that it is forbidden to use VPN during gaming.

What can you say about proxy servers? How safe and easy to use are they?

Another player's VPN connection cannot affect your lag in the game in any way. If you are experiencing similar problems, I advise you to check your internet connection and connection speed. Only due to poor internet speed may you experience lag. I can say about proxy servers that I like them better than the usual VPNs because they are more convenient to use. They are a bit inferior to the usual VPN in terms of security. However, you can constantly change the server to be more confident in your security. This website, avoidcensorship.org, lists the most reliable proxy servers that you can use with confidence. I hope this information has helped you.

I think if your game doesn't load well, it's mostly due to your internet connection. Try to resolve the issue through support, you can find the spectrum number here
