Making your own candles....? DIY

So my husband and I briefly talked about starting to make our own candles and of course why not sell some for an extra buck! BUT my dilemma is....how do I make a candle better and cheaper than whats already out there? We all know Yankee Candle is just ridiculously overpriced, but they smell sooooo good!
How do I make a candle smell soooo yummy and be way cheaper?
Do I add something different to make it stand out?
Do I make scents that are crazy and unheard of?

Help me guys, I kind of want this to work out because well I am a huge candle fanatic and would love some good smelling candles at home!! Any and all feedback would be appreciated! Thanks

I also did candle making at school and I loved it.

I think Mike has nailed this with suggestions and I was going to mention the hand one! I made one like that at school, not the one pulling a zap of course...

I think the best is like Mike said is not just to create a scented candle, you need to create something really different and unique. Make it a piece of art that they won't want to light it is so spectacular.

This type of thing will make amazing gifts.

Candles are not just for their smell, for me having a candle in the room makes the room so much better even if it is not lit.

You could also make candles that are used for repelling insects, so make Citronella candles and maybe make them in the shape of bugs... this might be a cool idea.

Since candle making is not a huge investment you can start by following what you get on the Net and then adding your own exclusive whatever. Why not? Keep that a secret for the time being and after your trial sale apply for a patent so that no one else does it but you.
There is a great demand for candles and so you will never have to struggle to get your customers. You can market them through eBay or Amazon
Good Luck!!

My sister used to make candles some years ago. She was experimenting with her friend, and they did really nice ones. I remember they used old paper medicines boxes, some tape to close the lids, and they even added some colorants, dry flowers, laces, beads, to make them different. If I'm not wrong, they used essential oils for the scent, they mixed some like coconut and lemon, vanilla and honey, apple and cinnamon. Try these mixes and create some new ones, I'm pretty sure you will like the result.

I think I'm subscribing to this your post of seeking how to make your own candle. I believe being able to make your candle comes with lots of added advantage to the person in question. It would serve as a means of income to that person as such candles could be sold, it can also serve as a gift package to friends and family and such gifts are of great value.

Another reason why I am seriously interested in getting tips on how to make my own candle as you do is for another source of light. It's a common thing in developing countries to have inadequate power supply. There are some occasions when we can't see electricity light for more than 3 months, so in situations like this, those candles would really be handful and helpful in providing a great source of light.

So therefore, having said that, I am really looking forward to get from you guys also on how to make my own candles as it would be very important achievement to my portfolio.

Hmm this is a great business indeed if it done right. for me i think you can try to make your own scent of candles smell. like the chemicals that you put into candles you can search it on google. and also for the cost of making candles you can just buy used candles with a cheap rate or even free and recycle the old candles, make a new one with your own style. because here in our country all melted candies goes back to the manufacturing there are a lot of people even kids who gets used candles for extra bucks. give it a try maybe one day you will be successful in this field.

I think you can make your own cheap scented candles by buying them online for a cheap and decent price and also you can recycle old candles which are probably scented and then look for tutorials online or even on YouTube where there are bunch of videos that can totally help you building or making one. And also, my mom would totally love this scented candles, which are actually a good gift to her for Christmas.

I learned about candle making in high school. My art and craft teacher was very talented when it comes to DIY stuff, we had learned so much from her. With candle one just need the candle wax, the wick, and scented oil and it is molded out.You can mix the scented oil which could be like 3-4 scent to have one's unique smell.

I use different kinds of flavorings and essential oils on my candles. The most popular is chocolate and bubble gum flavor. I purchase them online from different stores. I make candles together with the holder, i design the holders to make it more attractive, now depending on the design i kinda choose what kind of flavor fits to it.

I chose chocolate and vanilla flavors for this one....

Well, I know that my wife made some candles from crayons of wax, she added aromatic oil and she made candles with a nice smell of flowers, it didn't cost too much and the look and smell are awesome.

I see where the price factor comes in. However I have a different opinion. I think people are tired of the mass made, products that we find in our department stores. if you think about it when you are trying to find a present for somebody especially something personal it's really hard to find something nice. I think if you can make with candles that are a bit more expensive I think it would be a good market , so long as they can make good gifts.

In my opinion, making your own candles is very cool. I would really like to learn how to make them myself. It's a pretty lucrative business if you can manage to make very nice candles with a very good scent. I have a whole collection of such candles at home, which is why I am sure that you will succeed. I would advise you to start buying a special set for creating such candles, for example, you can find a selection of such sets on this site https://mycandleplanet.com/ . It is very important to buy a high-quality and good set for creating candles because the quality of such a set determines how popular your candles will be among buyers.

Well, actually it is not that hard to make your own candles, but I don't know if it is worth it, because even if you'll make one or 2 candles, you won't be able to make more, and furthermore it is harder to build some quality candles. In my opinion, it will be much better for you to visit the nearest store to your house and buy how many candles you want. And you can also order them from the internet. Since I visited London 2 years ago, I usually order once in months, some wax melts from cocoluxe, which has good, quality products and a lot of beautiful aromas to try. For example, you can also find there different scents of wax tiles
