Do you grow your own fruit and vegetables?

Nowadays people turn to growing their own because not only is it cheaper but in most cases the fruit and vegetables that they grown themselves tend to be better quality than what you purchase in a store.

My Mum, Grandma and Auntie all grow their own and some of the vegetables and fruits they grow are just amazing and taste so great. I would love to have my own vegetable and fruit garden but right now I am unable to because of my garden not being suitable right now and because I have 4 children who use the garden during the Spring and Summer months.

Do you grow your own fruit and vegetables? If so, what do you grow and how do they turn out for you?

I have never been much of a gardener. I wish that I was. I would love to be able to grow my own! I love garden fresh tomatoes, squash, green beans, and cucumbers. I also love fresh strawberries and raspberries. If I was able to grow them, then I would for sure.

When we were first looking at our house (before we moved in), I loved it most for the little yard. I thought about all the wonderful things I could plant. It's been a year and I still haven't even set out potted plants. Maybe this upcoming year.

Hi Beverly, try to give a shot. Start from buying seeds to grow. Start from a easy one such as string beans okra and tomato... Seing your yard becoming green will helps you save money and some reason green can be relaxing.

We have several fruit trees that we grew by planting saplings. We get bumper crops on them year in and year out. Many fruits are ideal for making fruit juices such as bell fruit, cherries and mangoes. We preserve jack fruit for use the whole year through. Each tree has its season.

No, and that is mainly because we don't really have enough space to grow our own fruit and vegetables. Plus I think I'm just a bit too lazy to grow my own fruit and vegetables. I just don't think I would be bothered to take care of them properly and the plants would just end up dying after a few weeks because I most likely forgot about them Do you grow your own fruit and vegetables?

Well, when i was a kid, we normally grow our fruit and vegetables, and that saved us a lot of money and thought us many things. although it was stressful but it was worth it. it helped to master some techniques in which i use today in my fruit and vegetable production.
And am already setting up a very large garden to focus on only vegetables and hopefully go into green house, before i start my food production activity.

I'm not good with plants. I think i don't have what they call a green thumb. Cause there's a time that i water my partners plant and it died. But i remember my late mother, she's really great in gardening. Our house is sorrounded by plants and flowers. And in our backyard she grows vegetables like tomatoes, chili, bokchoy, okra (gumbo/lady's finger) and sweet potato shoots. We even have trees like guava, duhat (java plum) chico, aratilis (kerson cherry) and mango. I remember those time that we just go to our backyard to harvest vegetable for our food. And climb trees to eat fruits. After my mother died we are not able to sustain her plants and it slowly dies. if only i have that gift i would love to grow my own vegetables too cause it's best to eat fresh vegetables that you grow yourself and it would save us more money cause vegetables now are getting expensive.

Yes, I do grow my own fruits and vegetables. I have a backyard garden just fit for family use. It is very rewarding when you see your plants grow and harvest at the right seasons. When you see your tomatoes turns to red, chili and eggplant hanging on its branches shiny bright, inviting you to pick them up, what a nice feeling! I also have fruits like mangoes, jack fruit, avocado, pomelo, guyabano, guava and rambutan. It also helps you exercise and save money. You don't need to go to the market, spending for your gasoline and time, just go to your your backyard, and harvest the fruit of your labor.

Having a small home garden it is the best thing, a small space where you grow herbs and vegetables. I discovered very nice ideas on having on Pinterest for horizontal farming done in areas with limited space, mostly in high-rise buildings and apartments. These new methods of urban farming are giving rise to urban farmers.

I don't I wish I do.My mom used to grow especially vegetables and we hardly bought them.she grew all kinds of native herbs and vegetables. My problem is just space,I don't think I would have got much of a problem with time.

I stay in a rented apartment that the owners have used up all the space for building, well, this is our pronblem now.Every available space is used for one structure or the other. It appalling to say the least.

I do grow some fruits and vegetables on my field. Some of the fruits and vegetables that I have grown are potatoes, green beans, ladyfinger, cucumber, cabbage, pumpkin, bananas, mandarin orange, mangoes, starfruit, longan and some herbs. I don't really spend that much on buying vegetables which allows me to save some money. Sometimes I do sell some of the vegetables and fruits.

Yes I do grow my own vegetables and fruits in my garden but it's not all the fruits and vegetables I desire to eat that I could possibly grow. This also makes me still looking for the ones that I cannot grow myself and buy from farmers market.

To actually grow one's own vegetables and fruits is not an easy task, it's quite demanding and time consuming to ensure it done well. The only place I can possibly say managing my own vegetable and fruits garden is in my village because of the assistance of my grandmother. She doesn't joke with garden work as she loves to spend most of her time there, making it less stressful for me.

I don't have any fruits or vegetables in my garden but I have a friend who does. It has its downsides, she has to work in her garden very often and take care of it but on the other hand she has lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. She knows they are fresh, no chemicals were used on them and because of that they taste better than store bought ones.

My grandmother grows her dog and the relationship between them is amazing in the sense that the dog always follows her almost wherever she goes and looking at that I always feel like having my own pet animal. However, I'm not that type of person that like rearing animals, so I enjoy being on the fence and not worrying about what I would eat and also worry about what my pet would also eat.

I belong to a farming family. My ancestors were farmers. After, my father retired from his journalist career, he came to his ancesteral farm and began growing vegetables, rice, corn, wheat and lentils. After living in a city for my entire life, I came back to my farm and joined my father's farming bussiness when I got married. Currently, I am a hobbyist farmer. When I am not writing or doing internet marketing, you will see me tending my cattle and plants. I grow cereals, fruits and vegetables. There are two benefits of growing your own food, one you save a lot of money, two you get to eat healthy food.

Actually I don't but I would be happy doing it if I will have a chance. Being a nature lover, I want to help to prevent destroying of the environment we have and to maintain and uplift the ecology we have and I believe planting some plants or trees will help so. Doing this will have three major purpose, it is either it will be use for personal or family use to be use for cooking or things to eat, it can be also use for business purposes if you decided to sell this items and at the same time it will help preventing global warming, to help absorb carbon dioxide and will release oxygen for us. God bless and thank you.

Until now I just have a relative success with growing tomatoes in some pots made out of old computer monitor covers, I wish I had more space to experiment with other vegetables.

Yes we have lots of vegetables in our garden and the purpose is to spend less of money from viands. Even you are rich you should still because there are times that this will sustain our food needs in any unexpected situations. One also of the best reason why to grow your own is to be safe and sure that you are eating a chemical free vegetables unlike in the market. We all know that vegetables are very healthy for our health which gives us a proper vitamins and nutrients in a natural way.

Yes, I grow my own fruits and vegetables. I appreciate fruits and vegetables as vitamins required for my personal health and for me to have a healthy living. Most of the fruits and vegetables sold in the markets were planted and grown with fertilizer and this is detrimental to health. So, I am left with no other choice than to grow these fruits and vegetables myself. Having understood the nutrients I can derive from fruits and vegetables, I made it a core duty to grow them in my own garden.

I try to grow vegetables. It is a little difficult though with such a short growing season and no room for a greenhouse. The past 4 years I've grown my own tomatoes, however, last year for some reason they failed to thrive. Beets are always hit an miss too it seems. One year I had half decent sized roots, but the other two times I tried, they were all leaves. Carrots are the other staple of my garden.

Next summer, I'm going to plant tomatoes again, carrots, and omit the beets and plant a bunch of beans. They did really well last year, and we're actually worth the space they took up. It is still a learning process for me, so I hope to get to a point where all of my plantings are worth the effort.

I have started out with one of the easiest things to grow which in my opinion is lettuce. All you need is the stalk, a glass of water and possibly a couple of toothpicks to keep the stalk in position. I want to grow more but, I just have to get a system setup. I feel that the easiest way will be a hydroponic system. By growing my own fruit and vegetables I hope to save money and also have my own organic food year round without the worry or the cost. If more people tried this method of growing food the world would be a lot healthier. Now while I could also start a garden there are always the challenges of the different seasons or weather to contend with. Growing food hydroponically I feel is so much more convenient; not to mention the healthiest alternative.

My home grown vegetables started when my kids had a planting project . They were supposed to pick 2 vegetables that will be planted at home. After 2 weeks the kids will write an article about the planting journey. My kids planted okra and cherry tomatoes. Well the article went great and grades were good. It was after 2 months that i saw a fruit bloom from the okra. At first it was just a few pieces of baby okras then after that the cherry tomatoes began to fruit. Eventually the whole thing became my passion and i started eating what i grow on my garden. I now have okras, tomatoes, potatoes and herbs. Grow your own, a healthy and fun way to eat.

We do have our own grown fruits and vegetables. My husband is so good at planting and I on the other hand isn't, so I ask him to plant and I am the one incharge in taking care of it. So far we have Bananas, mangoes and jackfruit as well as some eggplants, okra and papayas. We also have some herbs planted like oregano and chives mainly used for my little ones. I enjoy seeing these plants have flower buds and eventually turn into a fruit or vegetable.

Yes I am, it is very common here in Philippines to have a small vegetables and fruit garden in our backyards so we don't have to go to the market to buy vegetables and fruits except to the fruits that we don't have or vegetables. We have eggplant, horseradish, swamp cabbage and other basic vegetables that can be easily planted and grow in any seasons. For fruits we have mango, papaya, coconut and jackfruit because we have only a small area that's why we only have few fruits and vegetables but it gives us a big help to eat healthy foods and save money also.

I don’t. However I have a plan to start doing so. I have a plan to do this on a serious commercial basis.I want to start growing fruits that don't take too long to mature, like strawberries. I can grow them for sale and for my own consumption because they are very expensive in my Country and on my diet they are the only fruit together with avocado that I can eat.I think in general to make sure you are eating organic which is good for you, you should grow your own fruits and vegetables.

Hi, already in the second year I grow my own vegetables right next to the house. I am very pleased with the result obtained, of course, it requires a lot of work but all this is recovered when you grow your own vegetables that are purely organic and grown by you. I grow tomatoes and cucumbers. I made a greenhouse near the house, not big because I didn't have enough room. But for me, it is enough. The greenhouse is equipped with LED lights that emit heat and light, I think this is most important for good fruit. You can read a more detailed article on https://sustainableplanet.ca/best-...ow-lights-canada and you will already have a choice. I hope you have a beautiful harvest this year. Good luck!!
