Handmade craft: colorful rock paper weights or decorations!

So here is another little craft we used to do as kids, i don't think it has a name or anything but we used to find rocks around the house or at the park and bring them home to make things for our family! Lets make a rock ladybug!

What you will need:
rock(s)
paint/paintbrushes
maybe some googly eyes (if you would like)
glue

What to need to do:
1. wash the rock to make sure its nice and smooth and has no dirt on it. then dry the rock using a towel or napkin.
2. paint your rock red and black to look like a lady bug!
3. glue the googly eyes if you want or paint your eyes on.
4. let it dry completely and gift to your family member!

It can be used as a paper weight in an office or home office or it can be used as a little decoration in a garden!

I'm sure there are alot more things you could make with rocks like this (like different insects or animals). Or you could just paint it whatever color you want, you could really do anything! Its a really cool idea!

Oh my gosh I am loving your suggestions! This is an awesome thing that my kids will love. I am now thinking how we can make a tortoise like this lol.

We have loads of wild tortoises in our area and it would be so cool to make a whole stack of these and put them in our front garden LOL.

What type of paint do you suggest using for rock painting?

definitely, they find rocks anywhere and everywhere and try to sneak them home. like the other day when i took the girls for that long walk, they were picking up huge rocks and trying to put them in their sweatshirts and stuff. maybe we can do something different though and put it out front!!

As a kid, I did this type of handmade craft and it was one that I would never forget easily how it was done. I'm quite surprised to realize that we used almost the same method on making the paperweights.

Me too, would try this. Not just it's good for decorations, kids like my little cousins can make this as well. You can actually try different methods on making this or making any designs.

I have tried one to make it with my older son but it was a big failure, of course, it was not the same recipe. Thanks for sharing, I may try it in the future and I hope we will create something nice. We tried with my son paintings from school and we didn't wash the rock first....maybe that was the problem.
