Depends on the game yes. Some might develop analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities while other games like shooters and action games might focus only on reflexes. Still, no game can develop motor coordination and that is why kids should get plenty of exercises as well. Very good to keep the weight in check too

Gaming will make your brain work faster but only in games. For instance, you play racing games. You know when to increase speed, when to slow down, when to avoid hit etc. can you actually use this knowledge when you are actually driving a car. Definitely not. Having said some games can actually increase your brain function. For instance, puzzle games will enhance your analytical thinking.

I totally agree with you. Playing racing games do a lot more than what we think. Whenever you play racing games, you have to focus and concentrate. You cannot be distracted because you might lose. A player can also improve his decision making skills in playing racing games.

You know this might actually come as a surprise, but there is classic video game which everyone knows that has actually been scientifically proven to help improve brain function. What game might that be? Why, the classic Tetris, of course!

Taken from the website ScienceDaily, "Brain imaging shows playing Tetris leads to a thicker cortex and may also increase brain efficiency, according to a new study. A research team based in New Mexico is one of the first to investigate the effects of practice in the brain using two image techniques.

And my mom always said that video games would never make me smarter.

I believe so, agreeing with you since we use our brain for such exciting activity. Our brain cells work double time for the adrenalin rush, nervousness, and happiness over a game, right? The element of surprise it there, we use all our senses more actively since we are eager to win.

Yes I really believe that playing games can make our brain to work faster because we are doing something especially if we are playing some strategy games. Your mind is in the process of thinking ways on how to win in a certain game or battle, which is a good way to increase our reasoning and mental ability. Playing games has so much benefit to our brain if we just use them properly because it makes our brain feel relax and comfortable and sometimes relieve some stress in our minds.

I like that strategy games improve our mental capacity for processing complex thoughts. It builds connections that increase our thinking speed and reaction time. This is part of the reason why I play this type of game.

Yes, Indeed! it helps you to understand a lot of things quickly, especially if you play in action games like CS: GO in multiplayer. Personally, for me it helps to understand how your team works faster, together and strategically. However, when I saw the prices on such games I've decided to watch the ongoing matches on such services like https://egamersworld.com/ because it's funnier than wasting your nerves on this game alone Does gaming make your brain work faster?

I think it's true. As an example, the racing genre. Such video games like Need For Speed can raise attention and concentration. However, there are different examples like in TFT. This game requires concentration and critical thinking. I think that before playing in this game, a person should raise such skills on his own. Actually, I did the same thing when I wanted to play in this game. However, I noticed that ranking of the profile in this game, took a lot of personal time... I don't want to spend my time on this.. So, I decided to ask my friend that had a similar experience. He told me that I can use tft boosting which would raise the profile rank pretty quick and effective. It's not expensive, but I'm still thinking of using the service.. What's your suggestions, guys? Should I use boosting??

In my 35 years, I realized that in most cases, fortune has absolutely nothing to do with your casino games. The winnings depend only on your playing style and on the reliability and honesty of the online casino. It is this site that provides detailed information about gambling, about the types of casinos, and there I found the best online casinos with live players and dealers. There is a lot of variety, but finding something very high-quality and real reliable is difficult. This site helped me and if you are also looking for a reliable casino where you can play honestly and even win something, you can go to the site.

I'm not entirely sure if video games have made my brain work faster, but I know that they have definitely improved my hand-eye coordination. There have been multiple studies done on the effects of video games on hand-eye coordination, and there are conclusive results which state that people who play video games have an easier time learning new sensorimotor tasks.

They say playing games like Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed helped improve people's hand-eye coordination while Tetris improved brain function and efficiency, so it turns out games can actually do a lot for people.

I think it can be a good exercise for our brain. When we are playing we use our brain to decide and study on what should be done. It wasn't exactly fast cause there are times that we take time to learn the game and decide on what is the right thing to do. So for me it's a good way to make our brain work and exercise but not exactly to work fast.

zheh,
I think you are right as well. I mean, doesn't the military use simulators to train pilots? I assume that flying a drone is a bit like playing a video games as, but not to undermine the skill behind it. I am sure that it definitely improves dexterity in our fingers and hand-to-eye coordination. I wonder if there are any video games out there that are SPECIFICALLY designed to improve the thought process?

This is a very interesting question. I would assume that some games actually do improve cognitive ability; however, I am no brain surgeon or neurobiologist, so I could be assuming too much. It would be interesting to research any data that might be out there on this subject. Any repetitive activity increases the speed of electricity through your synapses; I have read that, so I would say that gaming could achieve that. However, does gaming affect the entire brain in a positive way? Or does it just reinforce the neural clusterings involved with the act of gaming itself? This is a fascinating question.

It depends of the game I was using, some of them don't work at all just like, and most of them for cure for boredom. Most of the game I tried out was puzzle mind game, and assassination games. I don't usually prefer small time simple game, it makes usually waste the time. Last game that, I played was half life 1, it was a totally mind blowing game to play, if you were not easy to adopt harsh graphic on that game. You will probably end up traumatize, because it was merely design to a person's strong resistance of gag reflex.
Today, I don't play much more about the games, because right now, I'm busy enough doing more works.

Yeah, depends on the genre of game you're playing. Because you can't be playing games like naughty or dirty Jack, Sexy girl rush, etc. and expect your brain to be faster or sharp, instead your IQ, will be depleting with the speed of thought and you get more dumb. Does gaming make your brain work faster?.
But on the contrary, games like Chess Titan,Scrabble,FIFA,etc. makes the brain faster, and studies show that playing video games can change how our brains perform, and even their structure.
Scientists have collected and summarized studies looking at how video games can shape our brains and behavior. Research to date suggests that playing video games can change the brain regions responsible for attention and visuospatial skills and make them more efficient. The researchers also looked at studies exploring brain regions associated with the reward system, and how these are related to video game addiction.

I have read several articles that have said that gaming will improve a lot of things. It, of course, depends on what game you are actually playing. If you are playing challenging games then, of course, your brain will improve a lot. Games like Rainbow Six Siege will help you to improve your tactical thinking and reaction times because the game requires a lot of forward thinking. You need to be prepared for everything and you need to have really good reaction times or your enemy will end up killing you.

Quizzes, puzzles and strategy games like Tic Tac toe and chess have definitely sharpened my memory. I regularly play strategy games online and I can say that they are my favorite. Playing brain games and memory games can improve your memory and make you hink quickly, clearly, and creatively. Playing fast paced games like fighting games and sports games not only helps your brain but also helps you develop good hand and eye coordination. Games like Halo, Counterstrike and Dota can help speed up your decision making. Somehow games help us to learn new things and exercise our brain at the same time. But nowadays there's a lot of online games which I can see not good for children such as violence game like counter strike or DOTA well its not a brain game anymore but a dangerous game tends to affects behavioral factors of the kids.

Playing quick paced action video games such as Call of Duty or Assassin's Creed can boost your ability to learn new motor skills, researchers have found.

They say regular players seem to learn a new sensorimotor skills, such as riding a bike or typing, more quickly than non-gamers do.

They say the skills are highly in demand, and useful for many careers - such as advanced surgery, for instance.

Games can boost some of the brain functions. Real-talk, I am more alive while playing games than when studying. It's possibly funny for you to hear but it's really happening to me guys. Whenever I am reviewing my notes and getting ready for exams, I always feel sleepy until I stop my review and go to sleep instead. On the other hand, I can easily do 24 hours gaming depending on the game that I play, and even a second, I don't feel sleepy. But even with that situation, I always passed all of my exams because it's like answers are coming in my brain like quests. With that, I can easily say that my brain functions are really working faster because of gaming, because it's the only exercise to my brain that I am doing.

I'm not sure if it will make you work faster, but for sure it makes you keep focus on something. When I'm really into it, I totally get involved in the game, trying to reach my point, full dedication. And I've noticed I'm getting very focus in any other work like I do in the games. The other thing is that games make you more tactical. So you can start noticing you are planning more into what you are doing, searching for different options, solutions, so that is a plus too.

Essentially yes, but it's not really about gaming: it's about using your brain in the first place. Stimulating the brain with games of any sort is good, because otherwise it just stays idle and starts degrading over time, so anything from reading to figuring things out works just as fine as gaming does. This is why it's recommended to spend at least 15 minutes a day solving puzzles to keep the brain actually occupied.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

JoeMilford
gamergurl,
I think that you make a really excellent point here. Our brains crave stimulation, and there is so much empty media out there that can so easily suck us into a time vortex devoid of anything that is stimulating in a proper way, that it is easy to get distracted, apathetic, or lazy. Sometimes your brain does need a rest or mindless entertainment, especially if your work is very cerebral or stressful on the brain; however, I think we definitely need to push our brains, om a regular basis, towards more and more challenging levels of thought.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Exactly, it's the same with any sort of exercise; too much is too much, but none will also not be a good state to be in. Nowadays when most of the work we do is just doing something routinely for few hours a day without any real creativity it's very easy to fall into this trap of continuing the same at home with movies or games, when one should really try to push themselves if they can't do that anywhere else!

I like how you mention exercise here, and as someone who lifts weights a bit, I have learned that the only way to improve endurance and to improve performance is to give your muscles time to rest. In this way, you alternate your workouts from upper body and lower body on different days, Your muscles then have time to heal and then come back even stronger. Moderation should be applied to almost everything, I think. William Blake once said that the road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom, but, this is bad advice for some people, I think. He was talking mainly about experience, not over-indulgence. I know this is a bit of a tangent here, but I agree with your statement above about finding balance in what we do.

I think it does make a person think faster, but it still depends on the type of game you play. There are no-brainer games made just to pass time and there are also games that requires you to think deep and strategize like action real-time strategy games. I think this type of game can really improve the way you think, that's why I think that it can be specially helpful to adults to keep them sharp. but it can make or break you, since it makes you think a lot and give you a certain hype, it can be addicting.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

gladys23
Actually it depends of what type of game did you play, because there are games that are boring, hyped, strategy, intense, exciting etc. When you play some hype game or some intense gaming maybe it will affect to your brain and behavior you will also become alert or energetic unlike playing some of the games that are boring and something you will feel lazy and just quit the game. So generally for me I can say that it depends on the game you play or the game concept that you are playing. I suggest if you want to make your brain faster, play intense gaming or strategy game maybe it will help.

Some research prove that gaming makes the brain faster. Simply because most the games now are turned based games or mind puzzling game. Some are strategically planned and prepared. Well that is most of the games are made of really. And totally agree that some of games are very hard to finish specially in hard or extreme difficulty. Yes. I do think that it helps your brain. When playing your using your brain in making strategies that makes your brain work even more. Oh yes in deed. But you have to take into account that it also depends on whatever game you are playing, as what most posters above have said. I would say that playing games makes your brain work faster. Scientists from different universities have discovered that playing action video games trains people to make the right decisions faster. It improves a wide variety of general skills that can help with everyday activities like multitasking, driving, reading small print, keeping track of friends in a crowd.

Video games also improve vision by making players more sensitive to slightly different shades of color. It also helps in creating good hand-eye coordination, team spirit and improving memory power.

Rock1987,
This is a really cool point about training one;s brain to make decisions faster. I had not thought of that very much yet. When you are in a gaming situation, and your character could die any second, you have to condition yourself to think faster and make decisions faster in order to get out of tough situations in time. I can see how this would definitely improve the speed of one's thought processes.

Sometimes it does. Most of the time games are just a distraction. I mean they are fun I know, they help you escape reality for a little while and just relax but they can be a distraction. Some games help you work on some habilities like strategy or coordination, the thing is: do you actually use those habilities in real life? I think the answer is yes but I don't think all people know how to transfer those habilities to real life.

Based on my personal experience, it's a Yes and a No. Why? Because it depends mostly on the game and how you play it.

Yes - If the game requires you to use your brain to pass those so call obstacles/challenges/whatever-you-call-it and/or the game requires you to use your reflexes to act quickly regarding the scenario and all that together with constant brain function then why not. Go play the game all you want, it will enchance it for sure. (although this is not suggested for long hours of gameplay.)

No - If the game requires most of the time grinding your way through or if the game is somehow quite repeatitive already where for example you make your way to one area then clearing it, then after that on the next area you do the same thing which the same setting different look, well, I got news for you. Stop playing those games, what it does is you only get muscle memory, yes it might look like your brain is still functioning but it is just repeating itself. No new knowledge acquired just plain old button smashing.

So basically, I just avoid games with the same feel but different look.

now for quiz games , RPG games and other online games that would make your brain think a lot since a lot of things would be happening in game that you need to keep track of. the element of repetition should be minimal to keep a person's brain thinking while playing.

For me yes. Responsiveness is one thing needed in the game, it's like enhancing your reflex into what your going do next.

Some game have this puzzle like system that you will need to finish before you can move on to the next chapter.

Other have some a reflex action features, that you will need to react fast in order to finish the game,

Some is more on concentrating and focusing like shooting games, you will need to use your senses to feel where the enemies could be.

Playing games, is making our brainworks.

According to an article that I red. There are 7 hobbies that science says will make your brain works smarter And faster. first Read Anything, second Learn to Play a Musical Instrument, Third Exercise on a Regular Basis, Fourth Learn a New Language, Fifth Engage in Cumulative Learning, Sixth Exercise Your Brain with Puzzles and Games, and lastly Meditate / Practice Yoga. We need to think of our brains as both computers and muscles. The more information we put into our brains, the more functions they can perform. Likewise, the more we exercise our brains, the stronger they function. Brain plasticity is a term that is used to refer to the continually new connections that are made when we take in information, engage in thinking, and force ourselves to remember things. Crossword puzzles, deductive thinking activities, and strategic games such as chess or even some video games, force our brains to take in new information and make new connections.

Study's have shown that gamers usually have faster reflexes. I'm not sure about how strategy games such as chess or Starcraft II make your brain work faster but, I believe that if you play those games on a daily basis or especially on a competitive level that your brain does develop to solve problems faster. Gamers who play a lot of horror games have shown to not panic as easily and be able to work under more stressful environments as opposed to non-players. So gaming probably does have a positive effect on the brain when it comes to ideas such as reflexes, strategy, and stress. Doesn't help if you play a game that teaches something too though.

I am now more of a strategist that lays out plans for what I will do in the day and try as much as I can to get it done. In my experience, I can say that those kind of games really challenged me to strategize, which requires your brain to think faster than the usual. We should try to stop playing so many games and concentrate on our life and job better than losing our time playing some stupid games!

When I was a child, I used to play a lot of video games everyday for hours and my family hated that and complained all the time but, I believe that video games helped me to improve my cognitive skills because old video games were really difficult and I had to think a lot to finish them.

Maybe some games can help, but not all for sure. games like chess, scrabble, and other mind games will definitely help your brain to work faster, but beside games like that I think games that can improve or enhance your cognitive skills, decision making skills, and other skills without you even knowing it, while having a great time and just enjoying what the game can offer is the games that I like the most.

I do agree that playing games make your brain work faster but not just too much! If it gets addictive then it's not good anymore. As long as you are a responsible player then it should be fine. It definitely improves your cognitive skills, kills time, makes you forget about your troubles and it might even slow down your aging process! But of course, there are cons. It either affects your studies or your job, it isolates you from your friends, it could also damage your eyes. But if you put everything in moderation, I guess there won't be anything wrong.

Definitely yes. Our brain response from what we see, hear and feel. The more senses involved, the faster our brain works. Some of the most popular online games in the market are designed specifically to test how our brain would react.

It has negative effects as well like too much watching television.you can get addicted and increased aggressive. My friend got repetitive strain injuries tend to get far more media coverage than the positives. However games can also be put to educational uses which is good for our brain. It can improve reaction times. Video games can be fun and stimulating, which means it is easier to maintain a pupil's undivided attention for a longer period of time.

Gaming helps me a lot in a different ways. One of these are it makes my brain to work faster. In some games, you need to make some strategies to finish the game. Also some games is educational where you will use your brain to level up. I learned a lot in playing any games nowadays. Also playing with other players around the world will make you competitive.

I agree. I think video games can develop some mental skills like management and strategy. Not only that but also a lot of people seem to think all video games are the same and people who play them are just sitting at home alone, but they don't realize that these days people are communicating online with other people while playing video games so even then they are at least developing some communication skills. However, I don't think this should be the main source of development for people.

I'm not really knowledgeable about this because well, I am no gamer. Then again, I have a brother who is. I believe there are both good and bad effects if a person is a gamer. Sometimes, these people when playing a game, they tend to forget their responsibilities and other significant tasks, because they tend to be too focused where there could be times you can't even talk to them. The good thing is has brought to my brother though is one, he types a whole lot faster now, knows quite a few strategic skills, and quite learned in history because of assassin's creed. Yes I agree that they make the brain work fast and reflexes to be developed, but they could get irresponsible in the process.

I firmly believe that gaming does improve brain functions and can improve what neuroscientists call brain plasticity (a term I believe a previous poster has also mentioned). Further research has also shown that playing video games can help patients suffering from degenerative diseases like dementia. This is something I have personally witnessed in my grandfather. He's 91 now, but just a few years ago, when he had access to a computer, he would play various card games and those early Windows games every day. Everyone would praise him for being so sharp and alert even at his old age. But once he moved to a new apartment and sold his computer, the speed of his mental deterioration was astounding. In less than two years, it was as though he had suddenly developed late-stage dementia. I think this is proof enough, for me at least, that gaming does indeed keep you mentally sharp.

Well for me yes. Some kind of gaming makes my brain become more think faster especially if you play some arcade games or those games that has goals, because those games boost your mind to think on how you can pass to that level and if you fail youll do it again and try iit again because you want to achieve your goal, you strive hard and youll do everthing just to finished it and win.

I think my reaction and concentration leveled up when i started gaming. I guess it is a benefit, but time to time when you get addicted to it, its hard to control. I think reading is still unchallenged when it comes to learning unless you are playing something like online chess. Gaming has some drawbacks since it can take your time away, mood swings caused by lack of sleep, etc.

Probably most of the games, where you need to use 100% of your brain. Playing games makes you more concentrated and gives you the feeling of something you are good at. I remember when I was playing gta v and I had to drive and when I’m done driving , I just had this thought that it gives me boost on my ability in terms of driving cars and it probably works for most people.

I believe so. Even a simple game can really enhance your brain to think faster. It's better to stretch your brain into a different genre of games like problem-solving, strategy, role-playing or even in racing. We should not be focused on just one genre. It might only give you an addiction rather than just enhancing your brain through gaming.

Yes, but... It depends on the game and the way you balance priorities.

Disclaimer: This is real talk, thus, no bragging intent. When I was in college, together with classmates, we used to hangout playing game specifically DotA and BvO for like three to five times a week. We went to internet cafes after classes (or even cut class once) for some games. That was associated with lots of responsibility in our academics and some organizations. We wouldn't be playing for some times if we had major exams coming and/or some big responsibilities from organizations. That's the gist of being addicted to computer games: you have to finish assignments and projects as quickly as possible just to still grab some time for playing with friends.

I have been playing DotA for more than a decade now. It's either offline or online. Way back in college, offline was more fun because I was playing with my friends. It was like our top way of bonding together. Sometimes, we play with other group of friends and the game became our team versus theirs. On this way, we needed to win the game, well, just for the glory of winning. So a plain game became a strategic endeavor. We had a captain or a leader which served as our commander or director. Other members also had some roles just as important as the leader's. To name, the roles should be tanker, support, and hitter. Before the game would start, the team members should have a quick meeting to assign who was who. Apart from assignment of roles, another challenge was the choice of hero. The team should agree of a set of heroes that could match the adversaries'. After choosing our respective heroes, big part of individual strategies was choosing item combination (maximum of six) and choosing which skills should a player use during early part.

In sum, in my own experience, playing games like DotA gives me and my friends an additional capability of thinking fast just to keep the team from losing. The game teaches us to be intensely strategic and collaborative. It gives us lots of advantages (plus the strong bond of friendship you could have). Important thing to remember is to play responsibly. Balance your priorities. After college, almost all of us graduated as cum laude. Not to mention that we also used to play DotA during our board review and all of us passed the board exams with someone became a topnotcher.

It really depends on the game you are doing. When it is just a game where in you don't use much thinking but just repetitive strategies, I don't think your brain is getting fired up to think more faster. Games that make you think are more likely to help your brain exercise its thinking powers. I am no brain guru or something, but based from my experience too much video gaming like RPG games and stuff really pumps up your energy and it is difficult to cool down from it. When you suddenly stopped playing, your mind is restless and it thinks a lot. So it may be true that your thinking cap is at full blast when you are using it for gaming, it somehow fuels up your brain to utilize all its uses to perform.

I always have the same thoughts. This is the reason why sometimes I play games when I'm bored and I have nothing to do. I always feel refreshed afterwards. The games somehow get rid of all the boredom and enhances my thinking speed a little bit. Scientifically, I have no knowledge of the effects of gaming on the brain.

I always believed that gaming does not only make our brain work faster but also improve our hand reflexes in typing to keyboards. This would definitely improve our WPM give us an opportunity to use this ability in work.

Definitely yes. Games is just the simple way of exercising our mind circulations and how we think accurately and fast. For example is that when your character in the game is in a difficult situation, you can think faster on how to overcome the situation. Games challenges our mind abilities in the situation. It helps mostly also in our real life situations. This is good for children but not too much exposure in gadgets.

This is true, if gaming is managed well by parents and players it will benefit you in terms of decision making. Strategy games are one of those games that improves motor control and strategies. It may be not a real life scenario but the way you handle a situation will gain you experience and skills. But of course anything that is too much is unhealthy.

It really depends on what kind of game your playing. If it's strategy or any kind of thinking games then it can help your mind in processing information.

Absolutely true! Gaming can be really useful sometimes. There are a lot of games where reaction and logic are the most important skills. Thanks to such games like Counter Strike Global Offensive we are developing some very important skills. It is scientifically proved that kids that were playing a lot of video games have better results at studies. So, I would really recommend playing such games like Counter Strike Global Offensive. Yes, it's pretty difficult, but at the same time it's very interesting and can be useful. Those that don't have high gaming skills can use boosting services like https://eloboss.net/csgo-boost . Give it a try

Actually, it is proven that gaming is not that bad at all. It actually helps you develop a lot of things, just like reflexes, and also it might make your brain work faster actually. As I remember, the best games in order to develop your reaction are the first person shooters. Also many games, can help you develop your creativity, especially the games like Dota 2, Word of Warcraft or even League of Legends. Actually, I am a great LoL fan, I have been playing it a lot during my childhood. I want to buy league of legends account now, and start playin it again.
